I don't use anything on my mix bus. I mix down best as I can and do a render of that mix. Then I drag that master into a new project and shove it through Abbey Roads and try not to over cook things. Plug-ins are boring.
During mixing: Waves WLM Plus loudness meter because it has the true peak metering and also the true peak limiter, and the last plugin is the Waves PAZ Analyzer, and maybe, just maybe a compressor with a ratio of max ≈ 1.5..maybe…. During finalizing (or mastering)…eh, well that’s a story for another day or video, haha… I believe in keeping the mix master bus as clean as possible during mixing. That is also one way to force your self to really learn more about mixing because it is better to do the hard work of mixing instead of for example putting a too hard working compressor on the mix master bus to ”fix” it all. This will often sound ”flat”. This is the sound of Synthesizers with everything in them with ready to play programs that has drums, bass, guitars, synths etc. It will sound great in the music store as a demo, and also for musicians that perform them selves in pubs etc, but it will not sound professional as a song track just because of the ”flat” sound it has. Well, that’s what I think. Thank you Warren for a great demo video.
I’ve been using God Particle on every mix since I demoed it and then bought it. In some cases I have used it to “remaster” something where I liked the mix. Here are my hints - first, your input is super important. You need to keep your level in the green most of the time, peaking close to 0. In order to achieve both level and a consistent peak, you really start to look at using clippers and limiters on the way in. Controlling your transients is really important so you get that nice consistent level yet not clip the input. Clip what you need to clip first. I also find that I like an EQ before God Particle to shape things a little. If you are doing a bunch of large EQ moves at this stage then go fix it a track/bus level. Keep your EQ moves light on the master bus. Then once in GP you fine tune using its EQ, if needed. The limiter does sound good and works well, but I have found that it is really not true peak so you need to meter it afterwards and make adjustments. You also will want to employ dithering if changing bit rates in your bounce. If you don’t want to use the GP limiter, I have used Sonible smart:limit or Ozone 10 advanced maximizer to bring a little more control to the bounce. Hope this helps someone out there.
Thank you, helped me ! A clipper before GP is interesting, will try that. I also leave the GP limiter out, it's a bit too "fat" for me, prefer FAB L2 or Weiss, will have a look at smartlimit 👍
@@thesaint7380 you’re welcome. Ideally you’ll clip transient heavy tracks/busses rather than just a clipper in the master bus before GP.. but no rules. If you do use a clipper before GP on the master, try using one that has some options like soft clipping (think of a knee in a compressor). O10 actually just added a soft clipper to their maximizer module just to give you an idea. Best wishes and luck
@@kshep39 Ahh, i just bought StandardClip from SIR yesterday, after hearing it on Mark Daniel Nelsons 'trick' (he put it before the limiter in the master bus too). Clipping is new to me, will try it on busses, thanks again !
Ignore the haters, the plugin sounds great - I've used it a lot. I disable the limiter and manually do that later. Don't always use default settings. Set your mix to 0% and push it until you have the sound you want. Sometimes that might only be 25%, sometimes it might be 125%. If you do enable the limiter, you'll get some distortion if you push the mix too high - so keep that in mind. Ignore the highs meter - you'll rarely hit it. It's not important.
I haven't used it. But all the videos explaining what it does, has taught me more about mixbus processing, than everything I've ever seen on UA-cam. Now I have developed my own simple secret sauce.
Hello, folks! I have to tell you this plugin doesn't mess up your mixing style. There are some rumors around this plugin, but you won't sound like Jaycen because you mix it into the same sauce. It will still disclose your personal touch. How this plugin glue and open up your mix depends on how the sources hit and how you tweak the mix bus. Your personal signature will remain, but you will hear the potential of your mix in real-time. How much of the sauce you want to use is up to you, and you can use it only as a reference. You can also use it on a parallel mix bus, e.g., for the low end. This plugin has been a time saver the last weeks for me. Try it out. It's free for five days.
@@oh515 ok, I thought is was actually really for free for 5 days, but you meant the trial is 5 days. yeah, probably going to stick with bx_master + fabfilter L2, this is just too expensive.

I like the idea of plugins having an indication of optimal input level. While I find presets to be useful starting points, the target input level has always been an ambiguous element when compression or saturation is part of the plugin recipe. I wonder what a mastering engineer thinks about getting mixes with so much 2bus treatment baked in. I use m/s processing on elements sometimes but it's not something I use across an entire mix.

I think their marketing confuses a lot of people. I’ve seen a lot of comments on FB that this is some mastering tool. It’s not. You mix into it, so it’s in a way what I like to think of as a “pre-master” plugin. Man, I love it! Imagine it as just a big console your mix is going through with some very fresh targets to aim for. Once I get the mix roughly done, I finish the mastering with some high quality compression, EQ, and maximiser plugins to get that final sheen and make it more “mine”. This plugin follows the trend of the blur happening now between mixing and mastering. I hope the strict artificial divide between mastering and mixing collapses, and the mixer finishes also the master - it’s time to stop dividing that up between two people, and just let one artist pull everything together and make it shine - God Particle is a great step in that direction and reflects Joshua’s philosophy of taking more control over the mix.

My worry is that this reminded me of a wet Tuesday afternoon in KGM West in Salford when the first BBE Sonic Maximiser arrived. It seemed to make everything more everything, a true magic button, it brightened up a very grey day. To the point where everything sounded bad without it. With persistent use it began to get on my nerves, making everything sound a bit, well, a bit FM radio. This looks to be more subtle and to have more variables to play with so I'm sure it's not going to work out the same. But hearing the bypass to processed switch I was reminded of that afternoon on the Man United side of the City, a very dark and foreboding place for us blues in those years.
The limiter is very nicely program dependent. The snare is limited so gracefully by the multi bands, it almost seems untouched. There’s a lot going on with upward compression and it’s done with great choices for the music re the bands. I’m liking it way more than I want to.
Been using it for a few months- love it! It's one of my go to tools in the master bus. I find that if you use it alongside izotope's tonal balance control you can get a mix that is perfect just with these two. Then I will bounce a mix and open a mastering track with Izotope 10 and I'm usually very happy with it. I also use it to re-master old 2 track mixes. I will open a new Master project (I use DP but they are basically all he same, no??) then I will have a master track and a stereo track with the old mix. I slap God on the stereo track mix and play around with it 'til it sounds pretty good. On the master bus I will put Izotope 10 and master to taste, of course using master balance control to get within the ball part. Works wonder for me on an old mix. things just sound so much better with the God Particle, makes my mixes come alive!
It’s cool to see so many different experiences. This is how I’m using it. I don’t! Well not on my final mix, I use it as a tool and it helps me to keep my ear in check. I’ve found that once I strip it of and master the track myself I’m doing a lot less on the master. Once you spend some time with it you can figure out what it’s doing. However what it excels at is a fast chain on the master. Probably one of the most useful tools live seen released for sometime. You can use it like a second engineers opinion, a stereo bus chain or as a quick mastering plugin! How cool to have so much in a plugin.
I just bought this plugin yesterday (June 19th 23) and I’m still overwhelmed… I’m listening straight in my car your mix and mine at the same time using the god particle and it gives me a great result , I add some gain on the mids and little on lows and it’s perfect…. I’m shocked how good this is
I bought it. And I am extensively trying on my master bus. I understand that the eq is centered around 150Hz for the low end, 650Hz for the mids, and 10K for the highs, with a gentle slope. There is around 2% harmonic distortion at 200% and a little at 50%, mainly on the bass side, from 100Hz down, and An Harmonic distortion spike at 10K. The limiter is flat and works as expected. When you insert the plugin with the default settings, you get a 7dB boost with a slight frequency response coloration. To a fair comparison, lowering the output by 7dB is a good idea. It injects the frequency and harmonic distortion of an SSL J mix bus, which was the expected effect. But the 7dB boost can be deceiving. Excellent display, though :) It can be a quick way to have some basic control of the master-bus.
I don't know if it's becasue of UA-cam compression, but to my ears it just makes things louder and brighter and a bit wider. Really not that impressive to my ears.
I already have Gullfoss on my Master bus before I master. Not sure how many more plugins I can put on the master bus although this does a different job that Gullfoss. This is a tough one but it sounds pretty good.
In this order: VU meter, Pro Q3, TEOTE, SSL bus comp, J37, Drawmer s73, Oxford Inflator, Soothe 2, Shadow Hills class A, Standard Clip, Pro L 2, Tonal Balance Control.
Hi Sir, you know I have a background in FM transmitters and Sound processing, and I hear immediately that our friend, lend a few algorithms from radio processing. That's why it sounds more "radio" I have the original Orban DSPs here at hand. And others as well. It's not a god particle at all, it's a combination of multiband processing and enhancing processes. I posted it on Sara's review too. They trick your ears. Also, there is an active phase rotator in it. That let it seems the music has some depth. Well, he can trick normal mixers and mastering engineers, but I noticed it immediately. But $100 is cheap for that kind of processing, because an Orban starts at €6000+ To be honest I was waiting for someone to come with this type of plugin. 😂
I started using the Ozone 9 "God Particle" preset. One of these days I'll break down and get the real thing. :) This was one of the best plugin reviews for GP by far.
I tried something recently. I mixed through the god particle without the limiter, printed it at around -6. Then I took that print into a session with just isotope. I worked it from there. Sounded great to me.
@@Liran... hey! Yes, I still like this approach but I’m not really pulling in clients or anything just trying to get better. I did realize that’s a bit of a crutch though, not getting that feedback. I recently did something kind of weird. I bounced the left and right channels to cassette. I did 2 passes, where the tape deck was distorting and one where it was hissy but clean. Then I mixed them. I mean, nobody else may get it but I think it sounds so cool. The surprising thing was how the tape cassette compression tamed the low end of the track.
Hello ! in fact, I have the impression that it is a tool to boost three different parts of the Master, which can be complementary to some tools in our chain, but it is already possible to reproduce this chain without this tool. After if he pleases and renders service, that's all we ask of him but for my part, I find it just satisfactory by its animation and its evocative name. Sylvain I love your headphones, it feels like you have speakers glued to your ears ^^
Warren: What would You recomend for a better lower end in terms of headphones?? Those blue lolas or those LCD X's? ABOUT MASTERBUS: I goes with (in this particular order): Waves SSL comp into Pultec (with CLA master bus settings) into L2 (Your settings from one of the videos).
@@Producelikeapro One more Q about headphones: Warren, is it possible to mix a song only on headphones? My issue is that with super wide guitars the vocal is loud enough on them but then on speakers it seems less. It's obvious as a feeling in general but I wonder is it just a matter to teach yours ears that or that is why the best don't mix on headphones.

Thanks so much guys - by far the most in-depth demos and reviews I have found on The God Particle! I was leaning towards a "no" until I saw this video. Tbh before this I thought TGP was a case of "The Emperor's New Clothes' and that other producers were reluctant to criticize it maybe because JJ has 15 Grammys and a lot of friends in high places! But halfway through I had to go and buy it. Then after inserting TGP on my latest track and tweaking for 10-15 mins, I am 100% convinced I will be using this on EVERY track from now on...
With God in the title it should at least have automatic gain compensation. Would highly recommend something like Letimix GainMatch for these sort of plugin reviews.
I’ve been looking at this plug in for a while but havent pulled the trigger on it yet. As an amateur mixer/master engineer i know id love this plug in🔥🔥 Jaycen is such a legend!
I thought there was no way that you compensated the gain properly. I was surprised that it actually wasn't off much. I guess that's what compression can do!
The God Particle has taken my mixes to a new level- I can get a nice full sound without doing as much work as I used to. It's slightly 'dark' but that's a good thing-my mixes don't sound 'tinny' anymore and it's much easier for me to get a nice low end. Gain staging my mixes is a lot easier now and the limiter is amazing. It seems like it's quite expensive compared to other plugins but it's worth every penny.
I have to be honest, when you do A/B comparison with proper level matching, it doesn't seem do ANYTHING, at least for me. They have a "little trick" going on with the level, for example, if you add 6 db of input signal and then you take out 6 db of the output, the signal still has like 2 db of PEAK boosting added by the particles module. So I've level matched the peak, and printed two tracks, one with just using the "particles" magic module and another one without the plugin. Puted them on the daw one on top of the other and made random cuts muting chops from one or the other to do a blind test only focusing on the sound. I can't hear nothing at all. Tried with NS10, with the Adam, with headphones... Nothing. I'm used to subtle changes and here, personally, I can't even hear what the plugin is doing in a blind test.
Dude just put in the plug in Dr and it will reveal the mid side stuff its doing. Its not anything we have not been doing for 15 years already regarding the mid side ease of the last 15 or 20 years we have had the eez of plug ins over the master bus.
It sounds like they’re widening the stereo image a bit, improving some of the dynamics and harmonics, and adding some air to it….. also as well as the high gain reduction and compression.
Its almost like its being able to dial in like 100% as to where doin it by hand there always that just tiny area that you either cant hit or that you cant actually reach due to a way a knob turns or to not being able to use a mouse steady enough to get it down to that 100% instead of normally only being able to get it to 99.7%. Hope this makes sense to people........
I am intrigued and can’t help but try to imagine what is going on. I’d love to know what frequencies are used in the crossover which can’t be hard to determine. So I would like to see what everyone else thinks is happening under the hood. Here’s my guess. First looks like a full bandwidth compressor on the input. Jaycen describes the eq section and potentially renaming it to push pull which suggests that it is actually post crossover Gain into compression rather than eq. The sound of the low end suggests fast release time compression and also sounds like soft knee compression so I am guessing a high ratio but big round knee. The midrange sounds almost like a mid side split, and slightly defined or early reflections and some kind of saturation/harmonic series adjustment similar to what happens in Melodyne Studio spectral balancing. Only on the sides Maybe then mid and sides re united. High band may be something similar to mids but doesn’t sound like the same detune/ reflections but a lot of widening and more mid/ side balancing.
Peak value is the same, the compression and limiting gives the track a more limited dynamic range therefore fuller and the average level will feel more. However, turning it down to get an average level will negate the positives and the way Spotify etc works it will read the peaks, so this shows off it's benefits

This plugin is interesting and probably a really good one, but when you are a person who want to control every little thing that happens, and also know what the plugin is doing, then it may be less satisfying. It kind of feels like these types of plugins will make it "ok" to use sound altering plugins/compression/methods on the mix master bus, and thereby taking away the so important mixing part, especially for beginners who wants to learn more regarding mixing. However, I am sure this plugin will be very interesting to many, many mixers and probably very much used by beginners that will "feel" that "wow" what a great mix i have achieved.. Thanks for a great video and I hope this plugin will be successful.
ok so this is becoming very intriguing and im so glad they have a trial cus im definitely gonna check it out. quick question...so u mix into this ?? and would u have some light bus compression before this or does this guy handle it all ??
I put a ssl-style buss compressor before it on the master buss with some very light compression and then add the GP after it with the default settings (yes I leave the limiter on at the default setting). I just make sure that the input to the GP is hitting the 'green zone' amd then mix into it. I lower the output to leave some headroom for mastering. Works brilliantly for me...

I’m shocked how good this is
Blah blah blah
Thank you for the demo Warren!
You’re very welcome
Excellent display, though :)
It can be a quick way to have some basic control of the master-bus.
In this order:
VU meter, Pro Q3, TEOTE, SSL bus comp, J37, Drawmer s73, Oxford Inflator, Soothe 2, Shadow Hills class A, Standard Clip, Pro L 2, Tonal Balance Control.
You know it must be amazing at what it does if it's nicknamed the God Particle!
Haha indeed
You are the target customer
@@dougleydorite I think he was being sarcastic, but idk
@@JuanJacinto there is still hope
Probably wouldn't sell so well if it was called the 'Higgs spin 0 scalar field'.
I sounded like Jaycen was calling to Matt right after he asked about the crossover points for the particle
Haha very nice
Thanks for the in depth view. I have "Taip" on my master bus. Its doing the same widening magic just without the limiter.
I started using the Ozone 9 "God Particle" preset. One of these days I'll break down and get the real thing. :) This was one of the best plugin reviews for GP by far.
Aw shucks! Thanks ever so much
Any chance of sharing the Ozone 9 Preset? Would love to try it
@@HansRavnsfjall yes, would love to know too!
I tried something recently. I mixed through the god particle without the limiter, printed it at around -6. Then I took that print into a session with just isotope. I worked it from there. Sounded great to me.
Thanks ever so much for sharing!
Any update on your way of working?
@@Liran...
Finally, someone(s) who know how to review a plugin!
Thanks ever so much
It sounds really good and I love how simple it looks. Thanks for sharing all that info.
Thanks ever so much
Hello !
in fact, I have the impression that it is a tool to boost three different parts of the Master, which can be complementary to some tools in our chain, but it is already possible to reproduce this chain without this tool. After if he pleases and renders service, that's all we ask of him but for my part, I find it just satisfactory by its animation and its evocative name.
Sylvain
I love your headphones, it feels like you have speakers glued to your ears ^^
I like any plug-in that sounds good but has a simple but pleasing to look at interface.
Thanks ever so much for sharing
When you brought the level down, it was still audibly louder so we were still hearing a volume increase when comparing without...
I always loved the Blue’s for their low end, however they stopped making them!
Makes me think of Gullfoss in the way that it really brings out the ambience.
The sound difference is very noticeable in the best ways.
Thanks ever so much
Geeeeez Warren ❗Just when I was winding down from buying more plug-ins (most of which I don't even use), you throw THIS at us❗🤯Now I have to buy this-AND I'LL USE IT❣
Haha yes, lots of engineer friends of mine use it!
I use the plugin just for the color it gives. Great for pop music
Thanks ever so much for sharing Devin
@@Producelikeapro Of course, any time. 👍 Ty for the brilliant content you bring us.
@@devinkei1469 you’re very kind! Thanks ever so much
But wait - who is the artist with the piano-bass-drum track? Did you say Jonas Smith? I’d love to hear more of this is it released?
Yes AWESOME, I'm a big fan of the God Particle, especially on Pop/Hip Hop productions - thanks for the fantastic review ❤✌
Thanks ever so much Ady! you rock
It's meant as a console for people inside the box. After I started mixing into I've never gone back! You can hear everything you're doing wrong and fix your issues and get it kicking much faster
Warren, this sounds like a compressor XT but what do l know. kinda like Jet plugin but different.
I mix in it and I love that plug-in even producing I need to have it in the master bus
Thanks for sharing
With God in the title it should at least have automatic gain compensation. Would highly recommend something like Letimix GainMatch for these sort of plugin reviews.
God Particle is awesome! Let's go!
Thanks for sharing
@@Producelikeapro Thank you too!
It would be a great plugin if I could control everything it does. I don't really like how much side information it adds, especially around 200-300 hz
I’ve been looking at this plug in for a while but havent pulled the trigger on it yet. As an amateur mixer/master engineer i know id love this plug in🔥🔥 Jaycen is such a legend!
Thanks ever so much
I thought there was no way that you compensated the gain properly.
Thanks ever so much for sharing!
I can see why it's called the God particle. Really brings life to the mix. Wow...
Thanks for sharing
no phase issues? regards
Not into that music but wow that sounds great; production wise. Nice work
Much appreciated!
Trying to get one copy here!
But I'm a winner anyway.
I could watch the vídeo!
Thank you very much!!!!
Thanks ever so much
Great review.
Question 4 u, Dolby Atmos can we do this in studio one if not do you think they will have this? stay safe
Love the headphones. Perfect for Princess Leia too.
Who doesn’t love Star Wars?
It’s a marketing hype and as you tried out when level matched it muddy the mixes!
I noticed the same when turning off the limiter
Great plugin to add taste to your mix buss without a doubt.
Marvellous
Dude just put in the plug in Dr and it will reveal the mid side stuff its doing. Its not anything we have not been doing for 15 years already regarding the mid side ease of the last 15 or 20 years we have had the eez of plug ins over the master bus.
Excellent plug in Warren. Sign me up!
Marvellous
It sounds like an FM/DAB processor preset.
Very intrigued by this one!
Marvellous
An absolute must have plugin!!!!!!
Thanks Eric!
What is this OTT for dummies with clipping and saturation?
It sounds like they’re widening the stereo image a bit, improving some of the dynamics and harmonics, and adding some air to it….. also as well as the high gain reduction and compression.
The other mixes drastically improved, but Adam Steels original mix was better than with the god particle inserted, imho.
Do video with this without vocals plz..Because i cant get my mids to register just mixing on a beat..
Your kick and or snare will hit the mids. That’s how you hit the mid band without vocals.
God Bless!
Helpful to hit this with a soft clipper or another limiter beforehand to lessen the load? Also, does this have an adjustable high pass?
Plugin engaged is still louder ;)
Peak value is the same, the compression and limiting gives the track a more limited dynamic range therefore fuller and the average level will feel more. However, turning it down to get an average level will negate the positives and the way Spotify etc works it will read the peaks, so this shows off it's benefits
@@Producelikeapro Thanks for the explanation! Bless you!
Love it! Used it on my master bus for the ratemymix competition. Haha
Haha nice
Warren, I am always confused about your comps. If I click on the link I put in my email address and name, but then see a load of ways to enter such as subscribe to mailing list which I have already done previously (Several times). Once I am subscribed, I don’t need to keep subscribing? Can you just clarify how this should work? Thanks.
so far it sounds awesome

i demoed this some months back and loved it! but forgot about it til today lol i hope i can win this license!!!
I try it out on my master bus and it s very helpful... My mix sound pretty well now :)
You didn't lower the output enough, it was still noticeably louder when flipping off the bypass
Cool plugin. Awesome production and solid mixes on all those songs tho
We need a "schnitz & schniggles" plugin, Warren :D You have friends making plugins... why not?
Haha indeed
Do you think might be useful for classical and orchestral music?
yes I find it works great on ANY genre of music! Jazz, rock, metal, hiphop . . . Haven't found anything where it sounds bad

Anyone could get the same results using OTT, so what's god about it? Kind of looks like OTT a little as well, don't ya think?
When I demoed it I seemed to be able to replicate it using multi band compression and some other plugins.
Great! What plug ins did you use? Please list them would love to know. Many thanks
ok so this is becoming very intriguing and im so glad they have a trial cus im definitely gonna check it out. quick question...so u mix into this ?? and would u have some light bus compression before this or does this guy handle it all ??
I usually have a bus comp before it
Thanks for sharing Matt!
You are suppose to mix into it. Like a console ! Check out Jaycens vids explaining it
I put a ssl-style buss compressor before it on the master buss with some very light compression and then add the GP after it with the default settings (yes I leave the limiter on at the default setting). I just make sure that the input to the GP is hitting the 'green zone' amd then mix into it. I lower the output to leave some headroom for mastering. Works brilliantly for me...
Looks like you are using so Audeze headphones. Which model?
