    I literally just bought a 2011 ls460 awd 2 weeks ago. 155k miles in it, car looks really good. did a oil change, coil packs and plugs. New breaks and cross drilled rotors all around amd aftermarket rims. The car looks absolutely stunning and drives like new. Im really in love with this car!

    In my opinion, the best $10K car would be an LS430. The reliability is much better than the LS460 vehicles. I just gave my 2003 LS430 with 185K miles to my daughter for the grandkids to learn with in pretty good safety. It literally had NOTHING fail in 22 years, and still after a $200 detailing, people ask if it's new.

    LS400 debuted in 1989. I have a 2008 LS460 and love it. However, regarding reliability, there are expensive repairs to be aware of, that are very common. The valley plate, the control arms----and on some years, melting plastics in the interior, dashboard, door panels, etc., damaged by heat and sun. The car is beautiful, comfortable and smooth, but it's no Corolla as far as reliability goes.

      They are not all money pits. That was an ignorant comment he made. But it is more than control arms on these. Still, lower cost of ownership than the German luxury cars, and the most beautiful of the full size Lexus models--the 460 stands alone.

    Interesting. I got behind one of these last week, and I told my wife about my experience years ago at a car show. This car was the BEST car at the new car show. I think it would parallel park itself, but that's been years ago and I cannot remember exactly. I told my wife how fantastic that car was when it was new and how impressed I was with it (but could never afford it). If you have little money like I always had, you have to look for cars like this. They were probably well maintained by the dealership, driven by old people, have fewer than normal miles on them, and the old people are just going to get rid of them and get something new. I always did that. I have 2 fairly new cars now, but I still have my 2006 Mercedes SLK350 that I got CHEAP 16 years ago after the rich guy traded it in on an RV. He paid $65K for it, drove it 20K miles, and I bought it for $25K in 2009. Someone walked past my house last week as I was cleaning it up, and they called it a "Beautiful car". It still runs and look like new. Take my advice on buying cars. Find that old person who bought it a great car when it was new and get it cheap.

    We have a 2007 LS460L 169k miles with rear seat upgrade. It's a unicorn basis no air suspension, but still has the drink cooler in the back and electronic side shades. We have replaced a radiator, brake actuator, and front control arms. Didn't get the notice about the free dash recall and missed the window, so that sucks. If you love these cars and get one with options you like, just pay the money and maintain it. Otherwise stop complaining about maintenance cost and get a clean 430.

    Overall the LS460 is a terrific car, I own an 08 with 162k miles. While agreed on all the positives, potential buyers should still be aware of the issues you mention, and that fixes/parts for this car are MUCH higher than a typical vehicle. My advice to purchase high mileage is to make sure previous owner has recently swapped control arms, engine mounts, and brake actuator. Other items will fail over time but these are the well known and high priced items.

    The LS460 is a beautiful car and I'm glad I was able to own one. The one shortfall I would add is in the quality of the interior panels. The driver and passenger doors have a lot more rubberized plastic than I would like on a car of this level. They did wear out prematurely and there is a TSB/recall on them where Lexus would replace them.

  • @artpereira

    I used to have a 2007 LS460 with reclining rear seats. The executive package, if you will. Pearl white with light grey interior. The control arms was definitely a costly ongoing issue to keep on top of. Wish I kept it, I miss it. Loved it. But, those control arms were a killer. Also needed to change the struts which was also expensive. It is cheap now but still has expensive maintenance. If it developed an issue of burning oil, the only fix is a new engine. Scary. Even so, I miss mine so so much.

V8 BMW turbo? run, Audi 4.2 V8 with rear timing chain? terrify, friggen Lexus LS? cmon, if you can't do anything yourself, time to lease a Nissan Rogue I guess. I think its one of the only big Sedans you can even take a chance on, 7 series\S Class\A8, serious problems can happen, not like, ahem, 2 bolt control arm, people are so dramatic in your comments! (looking to import a 460 from Japan, 600HL are same price, but I fear the battery pack, don't want a CVT, but would like 4wd, yesss)

    One of the most beautiful sedans ever, IMO. But a loaded 4-cylinder Camry of the same era is by far a better value proposition.

    • @grnthmb55
      @grnthmb55 25 днів тому

      Those 4-cylinder Camry's of the same era all had piston ring failure and would consume oil like crazy. Toyota had to rebuild the engine on mine and now it doesn't use a drop of oil. They did the rebuild for $600 so no complaints there. I just bought a 2007 LS-460 to replace my '09 Camry, which has been a great vehicle aside from the piston ring failure. So far I'm very impressed with the Lexus.

    The LS460 if not maintained meticulously has some very expensive repairs such as the intake valley coolant leak, the fuel injectors that cost $430 each if you only have to replace one but the other 3 on that rail need new o rings as soon as you pull the rail as they're single use only and they have many on each fuel injector, remember this car was $100k brand new and the repairs are gonna be the same price as a $100k car, the LS430 is a much less expensive car to repair that has a better history of reliability, I just watched The Car Care Nut UA-cam channel video on the LS460, I advise anyone considering buy a LS460 to watch it before getting into a money pit, definitely have a lexus dealership do a pre-certification inspection or hard oass IMHO

      I owned a 2013 LS 460 AWD for about two years I just sold it a few months ago. Purchased is 2022 for $26k during the fake used car shortage sold it of da decent amount. It had 110,000 miles when I purchased it sold it with 160,000 on the dash. Personally I think it's a wonderful car to own but it's not a regular vehicle it's a luxury car and parts and maintenance reflect that fact. Other than that's it's a great car that looks nice and is reliable but everything can break at one time or another it may not stall out but a dead headlight can run you $2-3k!

    Actually for $10,000 I think it’s absolutely silly. Save yourself the headache because the LS 430 is a superior vehicle. I’ve owned both the luxury ultra luxury LS 430 and I’ve owned the executive package LS 460 in the LS 460 required 10 times the maintenance from shocks to CB boots breaking all of thatI now own the 2001 LS 430 and it’s a better vehicle all around also less maintenance and you can get that vehicle for about $1500 versus this one. They’re probably the cheapest I’ve seen is about 25 $3500 but again the maintenance is higher way higher.
