Do'h! I said "Dragon Age" at one point. It's what happens when you enjoy both series and then Quest adds in "Age" to the subtitle. What sucks is I went over this video a good 6-7 times making sure nothing went too far giving something away or said the wrong word. I did though! Sorry folks. Please do this *beautiful* game a solid and ignore me saying that while deciding if you're going to play it. - Falcon
Wuking nope, eventually I realized while focused eating my snacks (not even watch the vid). I thought the first time GR try to compare it with dragon age 11, but wait. what??
It's a jrpg masterpiece that proves turn based jrpgs still can be enjoyed and deserve to still be around. The characters are charming and funny the soundtrack is catchy and well done. The attention to detail is breathtaking and beautiful. It has no MT or cut corners no bullshit patches as it's a done game. Easily my fav game of the year and hands down one of finest jrpgs I've ever played.
Theres nothing wrong with being a traditional JRPG. If you can make something classic but in a perfect way, like Dragon Quest XI is, major innovation isnt needed to be enjoyable. 10/10 for this old school JRPG player :)
It is a great game. Please people, even if you are remotly interested in trying this fantastic JRPG, get it, sit down in some cozy room, relaxed and dive into the world. You won't regret it. DQ series needs as much love as possible for to show Square Enix that they can also continue investing in this series in the West.
This game is JRPG perfection!! If you like JRPG's at all do yourself a favor & get this ASAP! My Father was playing this series before I was even born. He beat up to VI before he passed away. I picked It up at Dragon Quest VII, and I fell in love with it. I continued to play VIII & I loved it as well. Now playing XI & I'm getting feelings like when I played VIII for the first time. Already being a fan of Akira Toriyama's art style from Dragon Ball & Chrono Trigger was a huge seller for me. I also like all kinds of battle systems in RPGs. I'm glad Dragon Quest has stayed Traditional. I love both Action RPGs & Turn Based RPGs. The ARPG market has been so littered lately that it's so nice to get another game that uses these combat mechanics in modern times like Persona 5. Dragon quest is not "A" Traditional JRPG. It is "The" Traditional JRPG. I still have to go back & play the older ones or at least the DS Remakes & trust me I will get to that eventually because this series is so good. Anyway Happy exploring to you all! Remember Dragon Quest games are meant to be very long & played at whatever the pace the player desires but I always recommend doing all the sidequests, grinding, & crafting the most beastly equipment. At my pace I usually take around 200 hours to complete a Dragon Quest game. I have not beaten XI yet and I don't expect to for quite awhile. I am too busy taking in the sights, talking to random npcs, finding loot, & just immersing myself in this beautiful Akira Toriyama inspired world! I've also been hearing the post game is a sequel pretty much and a whole story in itself. I can't wait but I can if you know what I mean.
Mr. Prince thanks for sharing. After 4 I was worried I would be dead before 5 came out. It took 15 years or something. Good way to remember your dad. ❤️
Thank you for showing so much passion for one of if not the best jrpg series of all time. Also sorry for your loss I really hope you love Dragon quest XI as much as us other fans and New comers 😁😁
Paintfat Purple First of all I'm glad you are still amongst us. Second thank you for the kind words. My dad was a huge gamer & I didn't even really notice that much until after he was gone. He loved Dragon Quest, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Stonekeep, Bauldars Gate, Warcraft, Elder Scrolls, and so much more that I never realized until he was gone. I have his stuff which contains a lot of his save files. It's weird but I treasure them. I don't have much to remember him by but I got those I guess.
Tim McQuaid It was rough. Had to use a Gamefaqs guide not going to lie. After playing VII though my hype for VIII & the changes associated with it made it that much more exciting when I finally played it.
@@mikestamp1188 I haven’t played Fire Emblem but I mean from seeing previews of that and having played DQ11 I would say DQ 11 all day, it’s a wonderful game that honestly has your attention the entire way through whether it’s new characters or weapons, the story itself and characters are my favorite part, I think you’d love it if it looks anything remotely interesting. I remember first getting it just cause I didn’t have anything to play, didn’t think it looked too amazing but yet here I am, probably my all time top 3
@@stonecold5373 I clocked in 220 hours for 1 playthrough with max lvl and equipment. It's a masterpiece and I don't know if I prefer this or Chrono Trigger. It's well worth the time and effort I put in for the great enjoyment I got while playing. Now I can't wait to play any DQ game I can get my hands on. I'm now halw way though DQ III on the Switch, which is really great so far.
About 3 hours of straight storyline if you rush through it all. I spent 5 hours going through it, then did it again on hard mode in 7 hours. So yeah. Meaty.
I agree with you Falcon, I like the battle system better when I control all the movements myself. A guy from Kotaku made a Dragon Quest XI "tips" video and said we should set it to auto battle but it is just like sitting there and watching the game play itself, not my version of fun. But yeah I agree this is a pretty cool game so far.
@@paintfatpurple7394 have you actually played any of them? Especially xenoblade chronicles 2? It agree that it looks like you dont do much at all during fights from an onlooker's perspective. Like it looks really boring. Butt the further you get in the game, the more difficult battles get, and you constantly have to be switching stances, blades, using specials, and activating group ults. Its actually pretty involved and you really need to have a good grasp on the system and exceptional timing if you really want get through the game without constantly dying. Ive actually taken an extended break after finding myself stuck until i took the time to practice and level my characters properly. It ends up being truly engaging and satisfying. Especially great is the fact that you actually get to watch the whole battle without just focusing on the player character and missing everything else. Still, not for everyone. I understand that for sure.
I don't know, man. If you're just fighting trash mobs to farm materials, then sitting back and watching your party fight is more entertaining than pressing A over and over until you win. You get to see some nifty attacks that you might not think to use yourself. I control everyone when I'm fighting tough monsters and bosses, of course.
Yeah open worlds are getting boring, unless done properly like The Witcher 3. In Spiderman's sake I think it's necessary though, for the gameplay element.
Yeah, thing is you have to make interesting world with interesting activities, and that requires a lot of work and creativity, sadly most developers are lazy thus repetitive games.
You are all absolutely right! Hell I still remember story and many intense moments from Metal Gear Solid from 1998, or Uncharted games, or Last of US, and even GTA V was really good at this. Why cant we just have more of these? Good ones have good sales still so there is market for these. I couldnt get into something like Wildlands, that was just repetitive nonsense all the time with little story. It was fun for twenty or thirty hours to play with friends but now I cannot remember anything from that game.
I'm 20 hours in and gotta say...it's one of the best JRPGs I've played in my life. Edit: Also Sylvando is the best he made me laugh waaay too much his VA is 👌
Persona was good. I prefer dragon quest, but that's a preference thing. I'm not a huge fan of the social and timed aspects of persona. Still one of the best I've played, just not completely my style.
I also thought that I don't like the social and timed aspects of Persona before I played it. But in the end I haven't enjoyed a game as much as Persona 5 in years.
The whole arguement of single player games are dying is ridiculous. They are better now than they have ever been. These last 2 years especially. It is a wonderful time to be a gamer. And especially ones that love JRPGs.
Companies are not as enticed to make them though. The creativity is less, and only real passionate projects lead by passionate people or companies make good single player experiences these days. Most companies care more about profit rather than making an actual good game, why EA sucks now. Personally this game looks like a breath of fresh air and why I love story driven videogames. Persona 5 recently was also so amazing. The good ones are experiences, but now most are just multiplayer time wasters, cause that's what sells to the broad audience. Sad for us who really like the more complex and wonder games truly can offer when honestly most of that passion mentality is going away.
This was the first game i pre-ordered this year because I am becoming a fan of the Dragon Quest series for multiple reasons. The style, the artisty, the characters and the simple stories are so charming. Playing this game i found myself getting emotional a few times when i didn't think it was possible. I highly recommend this game to anyone who loves the classic JRPG formula. It may not be as stylish as Persona 5 last year but it's a unique charming adventure that I think fans of JRPGs should play.
I really like the game even though it is no innovation for the genre. In my opinion the traditionell way works just fine for this game . Also this is a completely finished game without microtransactions and dlc.
So far i've also only seen a $60 price and no more. Games now a days have like 3 or 4 different prices and this games offers everything and more for just $60
Miles Shadows Yeah, it's actually awesome that they didn't do any DLC. They could have easily made the post game DLC, but they didn't, which is certainly something to admire.
Bilal Hussain I couldn’t agree with you more mate. I pray the community supports it! If you don’t mind me asking how far have you progressed in the game?
@@MaximusDM100 I've played about 10 hours. So far the game has exceeded every expectation i had. I also hope the series gets more recognition in the west, it's well deserved 😁
I love this game, but something you guys should know is that the Draconian Trials options were put in a very weird place and many people (including me) originally missed it. When you go to enter your name, down towards the RH under the entry rectangle is a little yellow box that says you have to press triangle to enact the Trial options. If you don't do that here, you'll have no option to enact them later and will have to restart THE ENTIRE GAME to add them (which is also what I had to do). This is important because the game can get pretty easy as you go. What I'm doing- and I'd suggest people give it a shot- is to put "Stronger Enemies" on for your first playthrough. As a longtime fan I feel this is just about right. DQ is supposed to be on the challenging side. And better still, if it's too hard for you you can always remove the challenge later at any church. But be warned: Remove the challenge and it's gone for good! Hope this helps my fellow DQ fans from the west! *(EDIT)* Timestamp 3:54 shows where you enter the Draconian Trials
My Wife and I are new Switch owners- last year we played for the first time, Dragon Quest Builders and fell in Love quickly. We met 3 years ago, miraculously, on Final Fantasy XIV under nearly-unbelievable circumstances. I now type in a new Country- after 3 years, we are now together and no longer apart! We are now both owners of our own Switch' - and fell in *Love* with Dragon Quest Builders 2. We're both very familiar with Square, but had never had any exposure to the Dragon Quest universe. Anyways- this was a fantastic and well-structured review. It is the reason for both my Wife and myself subscribing to you, we need content like this which is for the true Gamer! Very well done :)
I’ve finished the Japanese version few months ago. It was the best jrpg I played before. The story is very well done, and will surely make you emotional. Definitely worth trying
Just when I thought I was nearing the end after 38 hours, to my delight I was left feeling alone and party-less, like the game had just started. This game is why I fell in love with Dragons Quest and JRPGs in general as a kid. Its is a fantastic game with a nod to the old school. I love it.
I am about 25 hours in and I freaking love this game. It is linear like you said but there is plenty of choice in where you go and how you pace yourself. You never find yourself lost and frustrated wondering what to do next. The characters you have following you around are all so great with their personalities and voice acting and even characters of the same class feel uniquely different from one another and I think that is an impressive feat. My favorite part of this game is that you don't have as much of the classic "grinding" for strength and gear progression of your characters. Don't bypass every monster you see but also don't feel pressured to fight everything for worry that you will get your butt kicked by the next boss...with maybe 1 or 2 exceptions! =) This game is really well balanced all around and I recommend it to anyone and everyone.
I don’t have the most extensive history of JRPGs played (Trails/Persona) but this game has definitely set the bar. It feels like it’s exactly what you’d expect, just more refined than ever before. The characters are great, the voice acting is great, the world is great, the story is great, the pacing is great, the crafting is awesome, the amount of weapons/items/armor is great, the balancing is great for someone who is more focused on story progression over challenge. The bosses offer some challenge on default, but that’s about it in my 50+ hours so far. The music is good, but there isn’t enough variety. Some tracks loop very often. This would be my biggest gripe, and that is a statement on how good this game is. Incredibly charming game full of passion in an industry mostly devoid of it these days.
Tvdiet Yeah a Dragon Quest IX remaster would be great. Dragon Quest V has already been remastered on PS2. It was only released in Japan however there's a english patch for the game so you can play it if you get the rom and a PS2 emulator.
Tvdiet 9 would be interesting to get remastered onto a console actually, with it being so multiplayer focused. Although personally I would rather have 3 5 or 7 put on the PS4.
the problem i see with re masters is that they are basically the same game no more challenge just on a defrent console. please correct me if i am wrong.
If you've already played Dragon Quest and like it, then just buy it. Actually, if you like RPGs in general just go ahead and buy this. The entire series is just a masterpiece.
I'm planning on getting it, buuut just need to confirm.... Is it THAT good? I've played so many RPGS but I'm looking for a certain one that'll literally pull me in and play for hours and hours. Literally chill and enjoy playing
@@F4keOfficial Yeap I did get it. Enjoyed it too, amazing game. It starts off slow, well to me it did then somehow somewhere you're drawn in 🤣 Great game tho
@@tru3nzgrinded this game so hard for platinum trophy (it was my very first plat) . But it wasnt in any way challenging to do because its just so fun to play that the grind was beyond worth it.
I was turned away when I saw dragon quest 8 art style but decided to try it out last year and I ended up loving it (played it on 3DS). After playing 8, I was immediately hyped for 11. Dragon Quest 11, although I am currently only 11 hours in, is definitely already my top 5 favorite JRPGs I've ever played. ( Up there with Persona 5, FFIX, Utawarerumono 1-2, and FFXII Zodiac Age)
I’ll back you up hard. This game is so much fun and the amount of effort the developers put into making the world feel alive really shows. It’s so rare to have a Jrpg which doesn’t have horrible writing and incredibly irritating characters. I’m guessing that the localisation team have a big part to play in making the characters actually feel unique and not like classic anime tropes. Compared to the characters and story in Octopath, which I found to be incredibly boring and annoying, this is shining example of how to do it right.
It looks very straightforward and unsurprising but excellently crafted and no random encounters at the same time, _YOU ARE TEARING ME APART, DRAGON QUEST_
I am about 60 hours in and the story is amazing. Just as I thought “oh...I see where this is going” something happens that throws me for an exciting loop! It hits all the points that make rpgs fun.
This game is simply a masterpiece. The story gameplay everything. I like the music too. There are plenty of emotional moments too. My second favorite is dreagon quest 8 👐
Brilliant game almost like the reviewer wife and I are only 10 hours in and Id say it was worth my pre order price on Amazon. If you ever liked Dragon Quest games you know how rare they are to touch US soil on consoles. Dragon Quest 10 is a mmo so we may never see that which I think is ONLY good for FF14 fans :P The game is brilliant and you can even turn the camera back to get that old school turn base look it is just a love letter to anyone who loves Jrpg's.
This is one of my all time favourite games. I really loved it. it was 130 hours of pure joy. Also I recommend playing on draconian on your first time through as it makes the boss fights a challenge and so rewarding when you beat them. And makes the story moments feel earned and have more impact.
Sounds like it's Dragon Quest doing what Dragon Quest does best. Taking the standard JRPG story of go kill the Demon Lord and then finding a way to flip that on it's head. Sounds like a fun time!
Webbman76 bought it last night, got a couple hours in and I’m super excited to keep on playing and find out what all the hubbub is about with this “turning the story on its head” business
Well the few amount of people that have played this game seem to say positive things about it. I’m not an JRPG player myself, correction, I’m not much of an RPG player in general. But I have played EarthBound and right now I’ve been playing Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and I’ve gotta admit it’s a really really great game. Btw the main protagonist in this game is in Smash now, so I should really consider getting this game! Hype!
Same, tbh it looks really pretty. I think giving Dragon Quest a go is the right thing to do. Smash characters really are like best of the best games represented. I had already played Persona 5 but my brother didn't bother until Joker came out in smash, and he absolutely loves that game now.
I am almost 30 hours in and this is one of my now favorite Dragon Quest games, the pacing, the music, the story, the visual all 10/10 for me. I am so happy to see this series being given so much life in the past couple years.
Man I’m hyped to play this! Haven’t played a Dragon Quest game in so long! Just downloaded this for free with my game pass on PlayStation. Gonna play it tomorrow and see how it is!
Fun fact the option to set a fight style for characters has existed in lots of previous dragon quest games. And it’s a lot better than past games, not to mention you don’t choose all characters moves before your turn they all have individual attacks/options you choose as their turn comes up, this has made the combat some of the best in all dragon quest games
I bought this game blindly and it was the best decision. It starts slow but the combat system is easy to learn and characters are loveable (sylvando is the best). Im still new to rpgs and this one is very forgiving if you pay attention to stats, do some grinding, and build your characters to a specific skill set I've grinned more than plenty at the enormous amount of puns in this game also
The last Dragon Quest game I played was Dragon Quest VIII on the PS2. 5:39 Dragon *Age* 11? 🤣 Anyway. I’m excited for this and I don’t mind the game is linear. It makes it less of an chore to keep track of things in terms of completionist terms. Narrative, single player games are and always will be amazing. It does kind of suck how many developers are going for online, loot boxes, DLC, etc. So when we get an amazing single player game like this, it feels like something really worth buying. Now if Square-Enix can remaster Dragon Quest 1 ~ 10 for the PS4 (US).
80 hours in, this is easily one of my favorite DQs now. I dunno if I can say I like it more than 3, but I do like it more than 9 (One of my other favorites). It basically sticks to what works while making improvements where it needed to. The end result is a phenomenal JRPG that is easily one of the best in years.
Im late on this game but using the ps plus subscription and its great. 25 hours deep so far and thoroughly enjoying the story and pacing of it. After a few years of not really playing RPGs this has been a welcome return :)
@@trollluhluh7144 then do Spider-Man. This game has over 100 hours of gameplay. It may be a month before you play Spider-Man, which would be a shame lol. So get Spidey first.
I had to force myself through the first 16ish hours. It's a very wholesome game in terms of language and how people interact (which I like). The art style and animations are excellent. My biggest complaint so far is that the soundtrack is extremely repetitive. If they had made more music, this game would be much more bearable. That aside, the game is barely starting to grow on me as I enter Dundrasil. Combat, looting, etc all seems a bit bland for some reason. The whole game seems a bit bland and I dont know why. A few games I've enjoyed for reference: Kingdom Come Deliverance, Witcher 3, Persona 5, Final Fantasy XV, Dragon Age Inquisition, Ghost Of Tsushima, Middle Earth Shadow of War.
I'm the same and I love Laura Toriyama the dude is a legend , He made a Dragon Ball , but I'm 6 hours in and the story and gameplay still didn't connect with me and I grow up on jrpg , maybe I'm to old ( I'm 39) or just interested recently in different style of RPG like Vampyr or some clever takes on things like high SF concepts like Control with a absolutely love . I will give it a go for another 6 hours and if I'm still frustrated that's it there is no point to try to love something, same thing happened to me with FF13 , and I absolutely loved FF15 and I wanted more when I reach 200h mark again it might be just me being to old for this stuff but I'm always giving a chance to the old school jrpg .
Not only should we not count single player experiences out, but they should always be encouraged. Especially JRPG’s. Ask anyone that says Single player is dead if they bought Skyrim. Odds are they did.
I got into this game late. I started it on the Switch when it released. I'm about 45ish hours in. Absolutely love the game! The gorgeous visuals, first rate voice acting, characters I really enjoy, and a story I feel invested in and actually care about. This game is dang near perfect!
This is my first Dragon Quest game ever, but I am very familiar with the typical stuff that goes on with JRPG's. Love this game alot, although this game will definitely be a long one.
Dragon Quest 11 is like slipping into a well worn pair of slippers. It's not over the top or trying to make a statement. It's just comfortable. You know what you're getting. As soon as you get to a new area, you know to run around and break all the pots/loot the cabinets. 😂 Even a task like getting the platinum trophy requires nothing more than you playing the game/exploring the world. Nothing locked behind obscure tedium or difficulty barriers. Every detail just calmly says, "Hey, have fun".
I really enjoy the crafting in this game. Unlike most games, you are interacting with the items. It is part luck and part skill to get things "right". Unlike , say, Final Fantasy, where you can ONLY make certain items based on level, and it is almost pure luck if you get a better item than "normal". That you can rework items to improve them is also fun. Changine something from a "normal" to a +2 can make it better than the next level item (until you improve that one) If you do get a "perfect" +3 it usually jumps up stats very well (Like the 'healer' card will regen 10 hp instead of 2 or 3)
I've never been a fan of Toriyama's art style (yeah, yeah blasphemy, I know), but I have to admit this looks goood. I love the popping colors and the shadings.
Something like "Pacing" matters a lot more to a game reviewer than it does to actual gamers. Pacing isn't important in an open world game generally because wandering exploration negates it anyhow.
Bought this when it was released in 2018 because of the hype. 3 hours in i got bored and had to let it sit for about a year and a half because didn't really like turn based games. Just last month, I decided to finish my backlog, this was the 3rd on my list and so I forced myself to play this. Boy I liked it! I'm 30 hours in and not even on the half of the story. I got so hooked up, I regret letting this game sit on my shelf for a year and I even regret buying it on ps4 because I can't play it at work. That's how addicted I am with the game. lol
You nailed it right on the head. Dragon quest's formula is simple yet very pleasing. Been in love with this series since Journey of the Cursed King. Cheers mate, hope you're having as much fun as am i.
Huge long term jrpg fan and i honestly feel like the characters and interactions with one another make this game worth playing. The story is lighthearted at times and kicks you in the nuts repeatedly at others. Its one of yhe better games ive played in a long time
I just starting playing dragon warrior 3 on GBC, never played it before. I have to say, when it comes to playing old games that I didn't grow up with, it's really hard to go back. For games like FF6 for example, I still love it and I feel right at home with it, but games I didn't grow up with are usually too archaic and outdated and it's hard to look past all of it. With Dragon Warrior 3 though, it feels great. In fact I think I already like it more than I like the DS DQ games.
I love the game and also glued to it ,just got to Gallopolis (probably spelt that wrong) but the game is brilliant I have spider man on my shelf that came a day early but I'm finishing this game first.
Played the game did some grinding got to level 40, then got to the world tree..... Only to realize the game was just beginning. Best DQ game of the series so far. Best story-telling. The Mermaids story literally broke my Wife and daughters. They were all crying. That was a seriously tragic story. I mean, it was soo messed up as it unfolded, I totally forgot I was even playing a video game.
I instantly switched to classic combat where I can control all of the players as well. I thought this game was wonderful. The best jrpg I have played in probably 10 years or so
I just finally truly finished this game. WOW. One of my favorite games ever and would recommend it to anyone. I grew up on Atari and NES; I have played literally over a thousand games (easily), and I love RPGs and this isn't just my favorite JRPG, it is my favorite game now. The story, artwork, character and story development are outstanding. I got it on PC and glad I did; I have numerous screenshots for desktop backgrounds now; that is how pretty this game is. I would have paid over $100 if I had known how much game I was going to actually end up with. BUY IT! My one and ONLY complaint? The casino music and the repetition of it; mute and Netflix on my tablet helped!
As soon as I picked up my copy during the midnight release, I got excited for the kind of experience I’d get out of it. While I personally have some gripes, such as repetitive music, it’s still enjoyable to hear. I enjoy the gameplay, the voice acting, the story, I love the skill tree. And definitely love the mini games. Now I am pretty far in so it’s pretty subjective on why I enjoy it, but I find the game well paced and not rushed in any regard. Almost 30 hours in and still unlocking new features that effect your main character the luminary. I adore the visuals done by Akira Toriyama, as his art for Chrono Trigger, Dragon Ball, obviously Dragon Quest, and Dr. Slump all are selling points to give this game a chance if you’ve ever been a fan of his artwork. This game is all around really appealing. I’d say it’s a must have if ONLY you are a story driven JRPG fan. As this will probably take you (me in fact as well) over a hundred hours to complete. That’s excluding the post game content. I find what they did here beautiful. Old fans and newcomers alike can enjoy this, take your time. It’s a must have if you find the concept appealing in any regard. The content engraved in the game’s code is well worth the asking price. I do have to say one thing I have an issue with is the fact the game is too easy. Which means flip the Draconian Quest options on and mishmash some of the options to give yourself a challenge. Mine was the no fleeing from battle and super strong enemies. It gives you a reason to improve your tactics when playing. Crafting is your best friend. So is exploring. Take your time. The world is beautiful. So much to do in the world, you should enjoy it. Don’t rush through. Being able to pick and choose your play style helps here. So much to see and do to keep you entertained. Such as the horse races, or crafting, or grinding to fill in the monster journal, sailing, dungeon and environment crawling, Or hunting all the secrets by finding the little ghostly things. Just a few examples. What’s here is truly remarkable. Just as Persona proved it still had life left in it by blowing us away with 5, so did Dragon Quest with 11. I believe you won’t be disappointed if you are a fan of old school styled games. In my opinion, this was well worth the wait. And it will be well worth revisiting time and time again, as I did with the others in the series, same goes for Persona. Recommended experience. I didn’t even go into story details because you have to go in fresh.
Stop pressuring JRPGs to change our turn based battle system. Lots of people still enjoy turn based. We dont need to be playing a crisis core/kingdom heart battle system like that garabage Final Fantasy XV
ApolloRED I don’t think he wants it like that. He said himself he didn’t like the free form mode. He just wouldn’t mind something new to the same turn based system
Indeed, been turn based fans since Suikoden series,I can't imagine to play RPG with action based, and this dragon quest is my first DQ game ever, cant wait to get my copy arrive :)
To me, after so many years with both Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, Dragon Quest never dissapoints me. It's so amazing! Just spent 150 hours with this game, got the Platinum, and the story is so long and amazing. Well worth every penny.
As someone who played every DQ game, and have been a fan for 30 years (yes, am Japanese) I can confidently say DQXI is one of the best DQ EVER. Up there with the likes of III, V, and VIII.
TKMezo i wouldnt call it a bad game but p5 is disgustingly overrated. Morrigana always making you fucking sleep Melodramatic highschool problems Too many long moments of downtime Grinding is pointless because of momentos The story just drags
ApolloRED I thought P5 was interesting throughout the game but there were parts that could have been left out. Like Okumura’s Palace or the depth of mementos. The reason I wasn’t fond of mementos is because the game made it seem optional & you were screwed once it became mandatory & you had to go through all remaining levels in one day.
MONEY MD While I partially agree with Octopath Traveler (it’s just not interesting), Persona 5 is one of the best JRPGs ever made. It’s my first Persona game and I loved it
IM NOT VERY FAR INTO THE GAME AND IM HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE TINY PRINT IN THIS GAME. I WONDER IF IT CAN BE ENLARGE. I HAVE TO KEEP SQUINTING. ALSO IM USED TO THE DIRECTIONAL STICKS MOVING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. I HOPE I FIND A WAY TO CHANGE THE DIRECTIONAL STICKS. THE GRAPHICS LOOK NICE SOME SOME AREAS OF THE GAME SO FAR.
Great game, but if you want it to be a little more difficult, you need to press triangle on the save slot creation screen (very beginning of gameplay) to bring up draconian quests. This is the only chance to turn them on. You can turn off individual restrictions any time at a church, but you can only activate them before creating a save file. It is both frustrating and funny that you can die because your character was too embarrassed to do anything because he broke wind or just remembered what he used to name his tools...shypox is just so Dragon Quest.
I got this game because it came out on the switch and I was interested in seeing what it was all about since they added hero to smash. Aside from pokemon this is the only jrpg I’ve ever gotten into. Let me tell you I am in love with this game. I’m 25 hours in and I can’t stop playing it, I literally play it every night. The game is just so charming. I really love the world, all the characters are amazing, and the battle system is really fun. I always have all the characters follow my orders, and I’m really enjoying strategizing each battle, I kind of enjoy it more then the more fast paced and hack and slash rpgs I’m used to. I really enjoy the story and like how it goes in all sorts of unexpected directions. I hear a lot of people complain about cut scenes and jrpgs but honestly I look forward to them as I love listening to the dialogue between all my party members. My favorite character definitely has to be Erik, I’m kind of attached to him since he’s the first guy you meet haha. Anyways I would recommend this game to any jrpg fan or anyone who wants a really good story driven game
This might be the first jrpg I will try to finish in a long time (if harvest moon on psp counts as jrpg) I gotta play this before dragon age 12 comes out lol
The first main console dragon quest game in a while and it's the best one so far. It's truly amazing. The game has yet to really challenge my skills in it's battle system though.
bold to review this game after only 12h ! i’m at 60 and wouldn’t dare yet, only scratched the surface. awesome game, i’d say it’s just perfectly balanced and well made.
- Falcon
we forgive u buddy!
It's a happy mistake happens you're human after all.
What about "before u buy Spiderman "
Hey GR. When can we expect a before you buy for spiderman? Your review is the only one I take seriously

DQ series needs as much love as possible for to show Square Enix that they can also continue investing in this series in the West.
Ok fine
I've been torn about whether or not to buy this game for a while . . . I took your comment as a sign ;)
@la Mei 嗨辣妹,那你喜不喜欢这个游戏😊
Man you started on VII? That's rough
When does Goku show up?
I like this comment a lot,it should have more likes haha
they should totally make a dragonball rpg modeled after dragon quest. that would be sick.

What if the yakuza devs and platinum games teamed up and made a dbz rpg
Super late. As he often does.
200+ hours I’ve put into two runs of this game, it’s absolutely incredible. My 2nd favorite RPG of all time... (next to Witcher 3)

The demo on the Switch version is pretty meaty.

MEATY BOI

Took me 7 hours to finish the demo alone but I did some exploring and grinding xD
The Gunman then just control the combat yourself you can do that
@@djwolf5395 that's exactly what I do.
The Gunman yeah Xeno trash battles are boring.
@@paintfatpurple7394 have you actually played any of them? Especially xenoblade chronicles 2? It
agree that it looks like you dont do much at all during fights from an onlooker's perspective.
Linear narrative games are great. Hate the open world generic missions and pointless busywork.
Never understood why linear has such a negative connotation. Every good story since the beginning of time is as linear and focused as it gets.
Yeah look at dragon age inquisition the game is full of boring quests it becomes a chore many Open world games are terrible
Edit: Also Sylvando is the best he made me laugh waaay too much his VA is 👌
same hours, same opinion, this game is masterful
@Elon Pate Nah her face is just tired
Yeah its really great. Not as great as Persona 5 last year but still a great JRPG.^^
Who even said that (apart from EA)
I'm 92 hours into the game, and still have tons of stuff left to do. Love this game alot well worth the buy!
This game is so good. So much fun. Anyone that hasn't played it yet do so if you like jrpgs. Also Falcon it's Dragon Quest not Dragon Age.
I've yet to play this entry!
I really like the game even though it is no innovation for the genre. In my opinion the traditionell way works just fine for this game . Also this is a completely finished game without microtransactions and dlc.
Well said.
So far i've also only seen a $60 price and no more. Games now a days have like 3 or 4 different prices and this games offers everything and more for just $60

So... About that "Before you buy?"
Well, it seems the big names were actually watching & just gave us at least 10 hours of a *_FREE DEMO._*
Dragon quest 8 needs to be remastered on PS4
Galaga games 8 has had enough love it all ready has a remaster on 3DS I’d love 3 5 or 9 to get the treatment
Tvdiet Yeah a Dragon Quest IX remaster would be great. Dragon Quest V has already been remastered on PS2. It was only released in Japan however there's a english patch for the game so you can play it if you get the rom and a PS2 emulator.
Tvdiet
9 would be interesting to get remastered onto a console actually, with it being so multiplayer focused. Although personally I would rather have 3 5 or 7 put on the PS4.
Overrated AF, gimme a remake of one of the older games like III. Or maybe the very first Dragon Quest.
the problem i see with re masters is that they are basically the same game no more challenge just on a defrent console. please correct me if i am wrong.

There are random encounters, but they only happen when you're on a boat.
and youll only ever get 2-4 random encounters typically when youre traveling by boat.

This game is simply a masterpiece. The story gameplay everything. I like the music too. There are plenty of emotional moments too. My second favorite is dreagon quest 8 👐
Yep, I recommend it as it's my game of the year, and probably my JRPG of the decade.

40 hours in so far, one of the best JRPG I’ve ever played.
I am almost 30 hours in and this is one of my now favorite Dragon Quest games, the pacing, the music, the story, the visual all 10/10 for me. I am so happy to see this series being given so much life in the past couple years.

Im 14 hours in and this is a pure and amazing JRPG at heart. Im so impressed. Persona 5, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, now DQ11. Yes lawwd.
Anderson paak is that you
Fun fact the option to set a fight style for characters has existed in lots of previous dragon quest games.
Im still new to rpgs and this one is very forgiving if you pay attention to stats, do some grinding, and build your characters to a specific skill set
I've grinned more than plenty at the enormous amount of puns in this game also
The last Dragon Quest game I played was Dragon Quest VIII on the PS2.
5:39 Dragon *Age* 11? 🤣
Anyway.

I miss the old Alchemist pot
Not only should we not count single player experiences out, but they should always be encouraged. Especially JRPG’s. Ask anyone that says Single player is dead if they bought Skyrim. Odds are they did.

Heard that and scrolled to see if anyone else did. Blasphemy.
This game is actually incredible
Should I get this or fire emblem 3 houses
@@mikestamp1188 I prefer the final fantasy style jrpg to the tactical chess board style jrpg. They're both fun tho, can't go wrong!
Witch you speak heresy how dare you oppose the almighty akira toriyama
Something like "Pacing" matters a lot more to a game reviewer than it does to actual gamers. Pacing isn't important in an open world game generally because wandering exploration negates it anyhow.
Honestly, I love how you can actually marry your girlfriend while still having more to play. Kinda a nice touch.
Wasn't expecting to hear Peter Coffin when I clicked this video. Not disappointed.
You gone back to add Switch in the description shows commitment!
This game is pure brilliance I absolutely love it!!!
I love this game, I got this for switch and already put 94 hours into it. I will beg people to buy this game. The story alone is amazing!
I'm getting it on Sunday hope it's worth the cash
Huge long term jrpg fan and i honestly feel like the characters and interactions with one another make this game worth playing. The story is lighthearted at times and kicks you in the nuts repeatedly at others. Its one of yhe better games ive played in a long time
I've never played a JRPG and i really love this game.
DQ3 and DQ5 are must-plays if you like this kind of game.
Gamer4Life85 oh my another Minish cap fan O.O
Played the game did some grinding got to level 40, then got to the world tree..... Only to realize the game was just beginning. Best DQ game of the series so far. Best story-telling. The Mermaids story literally broke my Wife and daughters. They were all crying. That was a seriously tragic story. I mean, it was soo messed up as it unfolded, I totally forgot I was even playing a video game.
I instantly switched to classic combat where I can control all of the players as well. I thought this game was wonderful. The best jrpg I have played in probably 10 years or so
I’m 4 hours in and really enjoying it. Love the style and characters
Dragon Quest gave birth to the JRPG genre and Dragon Quest 11 is the genre perfected
Before you buy? How about, JUST buy it!
Reviewing a JRPG after 12 hours is like reviewing MGS2 after the tanker part.
Stop pressuring JRPGs to change our turn based battle system. Lots of people still enjoy turn based. We dont need to be playing a crisis core/kingdom heart battle system like that garabage Final Fantasy XV
Stay classy, shitty game fanboy!
Ffxv combat was actually fun imo the camera was just shit a time
Divinity 2!!!
Pre ordered and delivered already. As soon as I'm done with Yakuza Kiwami 2, this is next!
To me, after so many years with both Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, Dragon Quest never dissapoints me. It's so amazing! Just spent 150 hours with this game, got the Platinum, and the story is so long and amazing. Well worth every penny.
As someone who played every DQ game, and have been a fan for 30 years (yes, am Japanese)
I can confidently say DQXI is one of the best DQ EVER. Up there with the likes of III, V, and VIII.
So... This is what Future Trunks returned to after the defeat of the andriods
The Luminary is literally Android 17. He looks just like him.
Hands down, the best JRPG ever made! Persona 5 and Octopath Traveler are pale in comparison. Do not miss out on this game!
MONEY MD i wasnt interested in persona 5 enough to finish it.
But i loved xenoblade chronicles 2 and dq11
same lol. I used to love P5 until Iu replayed it and saw how many moments boring of downtime there is.
TKMezo i wouldnt call it a bad game but p5 is disgustingly overrated.
Morrigana always making you fucking sleep
Melodramatic highschool problems
Too many long moments of downtime
Grinding is pointless because of momentos
The story just drags
ApolloRED I thought P5 was interesting throughout the game but there were parts that could have been left out. Like Okumura’s Palace or the depth of mementos. The reason I wasn’t fond of mementos is because the game made it seem optional & you were screwed once it became mandatory & you had to go through all remaining levels in one day.
MONEY MD While I partially agree with Octopath Traveler (it’s just not interesting), Persona 5 is one of the best JRPGs ever made. It’s my first Persona game and I loved it
Amazing game, I'm 26 hours in, loving every minute.
Also forgot to mention if you get the switch version the music is fantastic. They actually used a live orchestra
This might be the first jrpg I will try to finish in a long time (if harvest moon on psp counts as jrpg)
I gotta play this before dragon age 12 comes out lol
This is on GAMEPASS now. Hell yea
*DRAGON QUEST IX WAS THE BEST DRAGON QUEST*
for me the best is DQ8 hands down
coverandoacasa 8 was my CHILDHOOD
Can't go wrong with that. DQ9 is phenomenal
MAH MAN
8 is love 8 is life
The first main console dragon quest game in a while and it's the best one so far. It's truly amazing. The game has yet to really challenge my skills in it's battle system though.
bold to review this game after only 12h ! i’m at 60 and wouldn’t dare yet, only scratched the surface. awesome game, i’d say it’s just perfectly balanced and well made.
