Little 5 years late, but I’ve had this game for years now and still super fun to play. I got all of the DLC’s and come back for a full completion of the game once or even multiple times a year! Would definitely still recommend it
Wow. Nice. That’s saying a lot. It’s on Xbox GP and was wondering if worth the time. Glad to see it still holds up, not that this art style would ever really get old, But gameplay and story wise..
Thank you for not spoiling the intro, even if it's a bit late for myself because another review I watched did, and I feel like I slightly missed out on the impact of the event. T-T
I got this game on discount just yesterday, i've been eyeing this game since its launch but i dont have the time to play and eventually forgot about it, thank god steam feature this game in front page so i immediately download it. One thing that this game made me realize is that " so this is what it meant by games u play to have fun and relax" i mean so far i played many good games like witcher, tales games, RDR 2 and honestly everytime i played those i always have a goal like finding better equipment, doing quest to get stuff, pushing questline to get the story etc. But this game doesn't give me any of that, i just play and thats it. Its a weird kind of fun but a very welcome one. Definitely an experience i would reccomend to everybody
Bought the Collector's edition, it's really nice, lots of collectibles, but it is quite expensive. The game is as colorful as Zelda breath of the wild, beautiful world and landscape, I would definitely recommend this game if you like JRPG, but you can wait for a while for the price to drop since it's a single player game. Anyway you should pick it up some time along the way.
redpanda416 - Yes, I purchased the Collector’s Edition, and yes, way too expensive. The selling point was the making of video (which I have not seen yet) and the diarama. The steelbook/soundtrack would have been selling points, but you could get that in the $79.99 Edition.
I was originally pretty skeptical about this game, thinking it was just some Ghibli-drawn gimmicky nonsense with crappy combat. But this review really set out the good points about this game. A balanced and objective review. Well done, sir.
Yeah they really screwed up by making this just another hack n slash game. The first one was amazing it was the open world Pokemon game I had always wanted with an endearing story that truly felt like a studio ghibli story. This game is none of that
Crepe Maister what you want is a Dark Cloud 2 Remake.. we already got something close to a dark cloud 2 remaster where it's basically a ps2 game running at an upscaled 1080p with trophies support and it's actually run significantly better than on the ps2.
I use the emulator but would like to see a better engine used with updated graphics and AI, I guess pretty much a remake but for pc as well, that trophy support sounds nice.
True we should support great companies like level 5 but shame this review only got 12k likes but stupid cod , battlefield trailers gets millions of like , new generation has no taste in gaming
I think you forgot to add the part about the game where you are forced into doing tedious side quests so that you can level up your kingdom. In later parts of the main storyline, you are completely forced to make use of the time management sytem(the kingdom you buil) if you want to access the otherwise locked parts of the story. Rejoice fans, you have to forcibly do 40+ tedious side quests and wait for your kingdom to make enough money to upgrade to level three, and make a very specific building, all to be able to do the endgame.
lnflnltyLegend I have different opinion about that. For me, the fetching quests can be quite interesting since there are times when the sidequests are interlinked, but i wish we could get more than 1 citizen by doing one sidequest.
This game is brilliant! Love the graphic type and the music is brilliant, really finishes it off. So so much content I'm 90 hours in and am maybe just over half way through.
I bought the collector's edition. I give it an all around 5/5 grade. The battles, fight style, story, etc i believe to be amazing in all ways. It keeps you interested nonstop along with if you dont initiate everything the game has given you to play theres no way you'll beat it. Im roughlt 98% done with the game currently. And only wish it had more expansions to it rather than explaining the ending with Ferdinand being the world king.
This game is so good but its way too easy. If they just add a hard mode it would be so much more engaging to play. Its getting boring killing mobs in 2 seconds with zero effort and im even underleveled.
@@hamburglr1 Yeah the studio didn’t but there was still Ghibli people who used to be a part of the studio that worked on this. & it’s still the Ghibli art style, which is what I commented about. Never said anything about the studio being directly involved.
No surprise that this was made by Level-5 Studios as they're the same people who did Dark Cloud 2 and Dragon Quest 8 Having said that, you can find all of your inspiration for the game in those two titles alone. Being 2 of my favorite PS2 games from my childhood, I'm excited as hell to play this now that I got the whole shebang for $11 on the steam summer sale.
I was skeptical about them getting rid of the big magic attacks from the first game, (I really liked casting spells in the first one). But after seeing gameplay of the fighting, that fear of mine is gone, it looks fun as heck!
I love this game! I'm 4 hours in and hooked which is rare lately from jrpg's. I wanted so much to love the first game but after 3 or 4 hours it just felt a bit too slow and I wasn't enjoying the combat.
im only 5 hours in the game and its been pretty damn easy compared to the first one. the first one was definitely more challenging this game has just had one "difficult" enemy.
Parody Vids true. So far it seems like a race to kill the enemy before it kills you. In the sense the enemies can have crazy high damage output but don't hit you because of dodging. The difficulty probably comes from surviving the attacks that manage to hit/stun you
very true. I had a problem with the first kingsholder you fight. because well all i had been doing before that was spamming the "alt" key to shoot and kill all the enemies. The game is stil awesome and really well paced..
If buying for PC on Steam it is 6/30/2020 and HDR is STILL broken and will only loop black screen seizure flashing if you try to run it. Works fine if you turn HDR off though.
No Spoilers in this TLDR post This game seriously was hard to shelve... I got it literally on Sep 6th and shelved it on Sep 17th with a whopping 137.24 hours on it. I agree with alot what they said about the game and really have one thing to say about the game as a whole. You did a great job of tugging on my hatred build up of the antagonist, I would get emotionally invested in each chapter and by the end of it all of that sours with my statement of "Man I really hate the _______ guy!" All the ending cutscenes of chapters are great rewards for really emersing yourself in the game.
I really liked collecting the cute monsters, so I'm kinda shocked to learn that this isn't a part of the 2nd game. But I hated the combat system. Running around and dodging in real-time: yeah, fine. But browsing through menues for attacks, items and spells, during the real-time fight: hell no! That is something you do in turn-based combat or when the fight is paused. Maybe I'll go for it, since they changed the combat system. It's on Steam winter sale right now...
11swallowedinthesea really? wait, let me check my reality to see if i'm dead or alive, because i did not sign up for anime porn XDD but now, i'm definitely playing Ni no kuni 2, err for experimental reason. yeAH

Question from potential buyers: how does this fare against Tales series? I for one am not the most hardcore JRPG fan, but after FF7R I need my fix on some great JRPG with story and gameplay. Played Tales of Berseria but lost interest very soon due to many of its "complexities" (at least for me) with the whole battle system. I dig FF7R so much. Should I buy this? Asking for a friend here
Can I play this without having had played the first? And while I'm here can I start persona 4 or 5 without having played the others? I figured I'd read some synopses to be caught up or am I missing out by not playing the first 3 or the first Nino? I've never played a jrpg or rpg for that matter sooo answers?
Owned the game for 5 days, think I have like 70 hours played! I regret nothing! Retains the charm, while improving other aspects, some "improvements" will be a more subjective taste, but still, I love this game, totally worth it! I think the only thing I miss, and this is for me persobally, that you would get some more easter-eggs or nods to the previous game, something that makes you go like "aaaah, I remember" and if you didn't play the first you wouldn't mind! There is one that pops to mind, but wish there was.. more sometimes! But overall: 5/6
Psh I want a full vr room you know how much weight I would lose fighting with a hack and slash game? I love tech is evolving but the old 2d does add a fun anime feel to it 👍
I don't mind the changes. As you mentioned, Final Fantasy does the same kinda thing all the time. Keep the same vibe and certain themes while changing up the gameplay. It doesn't always work *cough* FF XIII *cough* but it does here.
Playing this game made me just want to replay the first game honestly. The story isn’t as good, the world isn’t as captivating, and the combat isn’t as fun. This is actually a rare instance where I feel like someone being a bit more critical (like a ign review) would of saved a lot of people time and money instead of giving this game a pass because it is not particularly bad...
I love Ni no kuni 1 in 3ds (i never played in other console), i love the book, the spell, the cute monster, evos, etc. So I wasn't sure to bought it but now I'm gonna to do it (in steam is so cheap). Thanks for the review💙💙
Its a great JRPG but not as good as the first one. As much as I enjoy traveling around a world map there is a bit to much traveling around the world map in this game and (so far after ~10 hours) its not that much fun to explore. The fact that it has a Diablo style loot system doesn't help. Almost every chest you find on the map has worse equipment than what you are already wearing.
Haven't played #2, but I couldn't get through the first one because the main character was so corny... and overly kiddish voice /elements. It was like playing through a Nick Jr cartoon with a Jrpg tacked on to it.
I loved this game. It is probably pretty close to my game of the year for 2018. For me I found the plot a little eh. It wasn't bad by any stretch but at no point was I going "Ok, I need to play more to find out what happens". It was a lot of fun though and that's what counts. 140 hours from opening to closing credits here and I could probably go back and add another 20 if I wanted to platinum it.
One Thing that i like in this Game and you might have forgotten: a big part of the Game is building your Kingdom, but you don't do this alone. You can recrute helper from all over the World, witch reminded me a liddle of suikoden. These helper will become citiven of your Kingdom, have exp-bars in there profession and will have Quest to recrute and to lvl up. some might even join your Army and can fight in The Army-Battle-Sytem.
Ohh sweet, i'm just gonna buy one game for now and i cant really decide between this one and Farcry 5. I know it's totally different games but usually i just stop playing Farcry after 6-10 hours (i almost always do that to games tho) and go on to next game, but the new one look's really cool but this game gonna give me 30-40hours of casual joy. Hmm don't now what to choose so i need some help, are u gonna do a video on Farcry 5 so i can choose more easily? :) Love the channel and keep it up, love from Sweden!
The start is kinda weak for me, it kinda became interesting when I started building the kingdom. I kinda don't like why range weapons costs mana, I prefer it if I can make a team with one Character use melee, the other one use only ranged weapons, something like that but in this game using ranged weapons and magic both consume mana. Also, I prefer if all the dialogues are fully voiced instead of grunts or moans and Evan (His Voice-over) repetitively saying "Gosh" and annoying way of always saying "Excuse me!". And it's so tiring to read to many texts so I usually jut kept pressing next (X) since I can already predict what's next to happen. Artwork is 10/10.
love this game, follow the story of an overthrown despot with megalomaniac ambitions who displaces native peoples to build a nation and subjugate by fear it's neighboring countries with the aid of the american government. 10/10 and the post game is also great.
I bought this game purely because of the artstyle (I'm learning to be a game dev, I use Unreal Engine), about 10 hours in, enjoying it loads!!! The artstyle is so wonderful!
I honestly loved more the story of the first, but the battle system in the second is better than the first game. I add : Is also nice that in some points of the game you can switch the character and play as them (example: caves and map) When there was to fight I always used Roland because the tutorial made me love the way he moves in the battlefield. (Sorry my English if I made some mistakes ;; )

Playing the first one on the switch for the first time ever. Look forward you playing this one maybe next year!
I have the collectors edition and I’m still watching this😂😂😂
Loving this game so much, one of the best buys I've made in the last year.
Yeah, It should be price $159.99, I think that would be a fair price. Don't get me wrong, it's nice a CE, but it's a bit over priced.
I was originally pretty skeptical about this game, thinking it was just some Ghibli-drawn gimmicky nonsense with crappy combat. But this review really set out the good points about this game. A balanced and objective review. Well done, sir.
i personally really enjoyed the first ni no kuni and am slightly sceptical about the lack off familiars and how it will play out.
don't man it is awesome !!
its way different then the first one. but you should give it a try
I’m saddened too I really loved my familiars
They ruined it.
Yeah they really screwed up by making this just another hack n slash game. The first one was amazing it was the open world Pokemon game I had always wanted with an endearing story that truly felt like a studio ghibli story. This game is none of that
I thought Evan was a girl... mistakes have been made
_ HShuffleG _ I made that mistake the first time I played it.
alvin banaag lol
who didn't to be honest
When i first heard him say his name was Evan, I wanted to correct him and say "No, you mean Eva..."
Japaneese voice actor is girl but the character is a king(male) while he is between male/female.
Just broke my foot and gonna be laid up for two weeks and i just got this game, loving it so far.
So I'm guessing it's more than worth the $12 sale price for deluxe edition?
Just buy this game!
i second this
Just bought it
waiting for a sale
Already have 👌
Just pirate this game
I want Level 5 to give me a *Dark Cloud 2* _Remastered._
or you can just play PS2 emulator and up the resolution, same thing
Crepe Maister
what you want is a Dark Cloud 2 Remake..
we already got something close to a dark cloud 2 remaster where it's basically a ps2 game running at an upscaled 1080p with trophies support and it's actually run significantly better than on the ps2.
Rouge Galaxy for meeee
The animation and Familiar collecting was some of the best parts of the best rip.
Right? It's not even the same game
@@chefwoo yes i think this is no longer ni no kuni i was really looking forward to more familiars
I'm not the biggest fan of Gameranx, but I do enjoy Falcon reviews. Good stuff.
STEAM SALE RIGHT NOW! yeah.. you solidified it for me in that last line. I love these please keep making them!!
TriippyHD Rejoice, friend. They did a patch that added Hard Mode for free.
TriippyHD they added different difficultly
Wait this is amazing :D
I didn't know this until today. Stopped playing because I was face rolling everything... May try playing again with a harder difficulty.
play on expert
I love the word "silly" and I think its even better when someone who sounds and speaks like Falcon says it.
Freaking loving this game so far. Great characters, great action, & I really love the Studio Ghibli art style.
The first one was with ghibli they don't have anything to do with this one
@@hamburglr1 Yeah the studio didn’t but there was still Ghibli people who used to be a part of the studio that worked on this. & it’s still the Ghibli art style, which is what I commented about. Never said anything about the studio being directly involved.
No surprise that this was made by Level-5 Studios as they're the same people who did Dark Cloud 2 and Dragon Quest 8
Having said that, you can find all of your inspiration for the game in those two titles alone.
I said fuck it to the stealth part and just fought all of em. It wasn't easy I'll tell you that but I did it łol
Alex Coulter Same here.... lol
Lies
I tried it on the hardest difficulty, ..........I regret trying to do it for the last 1 hour
lol me too, it was a nice early exp. boost. but i was surprised how much of a difference 1-2 levels made in combat.
Only heard of this because of ps store. Looks pretty cool from your review
jumping moose It's really fun, you should try it
PLAY THE FIRST ONE

I've been watching your videos before buying games for some time now, thanks a lot!
I love this game! I'm 4 hours in and hooked which is rare lately from jrpg's. I wanted so much to love the first game but after 3 or 4 hours it just felt a bit too slow and I wasn't enjoying the combat.
Never heard of ya, but digging what you’re putting down! The games currently on sale on PS store and I’ll be snagging it!
Lmao, was just watching a bunch of different reviews about this game. Now I'm sure about my decision, definitely gonna get this game
Cole McGrath it's awesome
Genaro Andrade how far in are you?
im only 5 hours in the game and its been pretty damn easy compared to the first one. the first one was definitely more challenging this game has just had one "difficult" enemy.
Can i play this without the first ?
Andrea Tilli yes
Not related . I am loving it but i prefer the first .
yup
Yes they're two different stories
Andrea Tilli ya man
If you like jrpgs or fun games in general, get this game
I like this channel, and particular "Before You Buy," because it's very useful before I buy some of these games
You got me at : "I'm enjoying this more than the original"
If buying for PC on Steam it is 6/30/2020 and HDR is STILL broken and will only loop black screen seizure flashing if you try to run it. Works fine if you turn HDR off though.
When you mentioned Suikoden i immediately bought it on steam
No Spoilers in this TLDR post
This game seriously was hard to shelve... I got it literally on Sep 6th and shelved it on Sep 17th with a whopping 137.24 hours on it.
I agree with alot what they said about the game and really have one thing to say about the game as a whole.
You did a great job of tugging on my hatred build up of the antagonist, I would get emotionally invested in each chapter and by the end of it all of that sours with my statement of
"Man I really hate the _______ guy!"
All the ending cutscenes of chapters are great rewards for really emersing yourself in the game.
Omg definitely got it on sale now with the bundle can’t wait
*There is no tentacle saliva scenes!*
11swallowedinthesea now you make me want a testicle saliva scene...thanks
MattOmniHeart Testicle?
*There are*
Toast & Soup What? I have an active imagination. PS that was a typo, and i'm too dumb to have made that joke
11swallowedinthesea really? wait, let me check my reality to see if i'm dead or alive, because i did not sign up for anime porn XDD but now, i'm definitely playing Ni no kuni 2, err for experimental reason. yeAH
$12 on the Black Friday sale..after watching quite a few videos, I think this one was the final one to convince me to get it. Looking forward to it.
The thumbnail basically says:
"Wait wait wait, before you buy: I'm a boy"
I haven't played the first night no kuni but I picked up 2 for 25$, and wow just wow! Why haven't I given this game a chance sooner its simply amazing and am definitely going to get the next game in the series the day it comes out. All around an amazing experience!
6:21 he might not be anoying but i'm not gonna lie his hair design was what stoped me from buying the game until now, i'm it's a really dumb reason but i don't know everytime i saw something about this game i was like "wtf, his hair" lol.
kept thinking its a girl
It's on sale on steam right now, the prince edition is $11.99 USD
I love these games and im an adult, im sick of call of duty it makes you depressed
Lol
Hell yeah my dude!
True
Question from potential buyers: how does this fare against Tales series?
I for one am not the most hardcore JRPG fan, but after FF7R I need my fix on some great JRPG with story and gameplay.
Played Tales of Berseria but lost interest very soon due to many of its "complexities" (at least for me) with the whole battle system.
I dig FF7R so much. Should I buy this? Asking for a friend here
Do you recommend playing the first game before playing this and when yes, where is the best place to buy it for PC?
I just miss the 2d animation that ni no kuni 1 had.
Gigi Villalobos No Ghibli this time is why, Level 5 doesn't have the staff to do proper animation like that.
Psh I want a full vr room you know how much weight I would lose fighting with a hack and slash game? I love tech is evolving but the old 2d does add a fun anime feel to it 👍
Ghibli was like "Hey no touchy no touch"
It was Studio Ghibli employees that did the art they just couldn't say it for some legal things going on at the time.
Yeah I agree, the game in my opinion was a step back from the first in every way. Still a good game, but disappointing.
I think that's what made Final Fantasy 7 so memorable for so many people was how it started you off in the action
6:36 Why is Lisa Simpson there
You little-
Lol I said the same thing when I first saw that guy in my playthrough.
😂
Oi! That be Lofty, Evan's Kingmaker!
I love Ni no kuni 1 in 3ds (i never played in other console), i love the book, the spell, the cute monster, evos, etc. So I wasn't sure to bought it but now I'm gonna to do it (in steam is so cheap). Thanks for the review💙💙
"I hadn't really noticed any slowdown ... that said, there are a couple of areas where I did notice some very minor slow down"
Just bought this for 12 bucks ! Awesome video!!
In defense of Ni no Kuni 2, not many games are better than the first one in general.
I found better loot in a chest than what the dlc gave me hah
"not as good as the first one" i strongly disagree as i hated the first one, but loving this 2nd one so far
Haven't played #2, but I couldn't get through the first one because the main character was so corny... and overly kiddish voice /elements. It was like playing through a Nick Jr cartoon with a Jrpg tacked on to it.
Jon Idoncair I didn't hate the first but Im definitely having more fun with the combat in this one
I loved this game. It is probably pretty close to my game of the year for 2018. For me I found the plot a little eh. It wasn't bad by any stretch but at no point was I going "Ok, I need to play more to find out what happens". It was a lot of fun though and that's what counts. 140 hours from opening to closing credits here and I could probably go back and add another 20 if I wanted to platinum it.
if i could change this game it would be having it related to the first game and more references about Morn star and Oliver
One Thing that i like in this Game and you might have forgotten:
a big part of the Game is building your Kingdom, but you don't do this alone. You can recrute helper from all over the World, witch reminded me a liddle of suikoden. These helper will become citiven of your Kingdom, have exp-bars in there profession and will have Quest to recrute and to lvl up. some might even join your Army and can fight in The Army-Battle-Sytem.
Voice acting was kept to a minimum, Way less than the first game.
..... This should've been mentioned in the video.
:) Love the channel and keep it up, love from Sweden!
that start is a real WTF moment
Love seeing falcon review games! Would like to see more
These “before you buy thumbnails” always have me weak 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
DID YOU KNOW . . . the original picture is actually Jake from his very first BYB? It's kind of funny how it became infamous in its own way
Omari_X 65 I did not know that. Haha interesting bit of info I learned today
Recently got this, played it for 75 hours in a week. Definitely a brilliant RPG
Watching this while playing it and realising I'm also at 35 hours, I'm so alone
thanks for not spoiling the video really good video
2:42 son gave you the work you had to cut it out
The start is kinda weak for me, it kinda became interesting when I started building the kingdom.
Haven’t watched the video yet, but should I play the first one to understand the second? Or should I play both because they are amazing games?
Can i play this without knowing story of the first one ?
Shad8x yes you can it's a different tale from the first kinda like the final fantasy series
TC Crowder I see, thanks
6:26 skiping the vid i see
Shad8x same world for the most part with nods to the first game but otherwise is its own thing.
There are some clever nods to the original but no need to play. Though, really you deserve to play both.
