Both DQ and Zelda really are similar to eachother in the sense that both franchises really like to sell the adventure in a fairly tale medieval setting. The main difference being that one is an action adventure game while the other is a turn base RPG.
I absolutely LOVED Dragon Quest XI on PS4! It was just so well done on every level and the game was HUGE! Even if you don't do most of the side-quests you could spend 100 hours+ on the game! There was just so much content! The story was great! So much quality voice acting! Visuals were beautiful! I don't know what the actual sales were in North America but whatever they were, it wasn't nearly enough! Underrated I'm sure! Best JRPG game, Best RPG game in general in a long long while!
I'm so glad you're getting into the Dragon Quest series. It's such a great franchise, but doesn't get much love outside of Japan. I also imported that Dragon Quest Edition Nintendo Switch and it's so beautiful! So glad it has decals on the actual system and not just a plain system with special Joycons. P.S. Play *Dragon Quest IX: Sentinel of the Starry Skies* for Ninendo DS. It's my favorite by far!
It really is an awesome Zelda sweater and shirt! I had never played dragon quest either but the demo sucked me in and I had to buy the game. The story, especially in the beginning, actually reminded me of Prince of Egypt/ Moses. Thanks for the video Wood!!
Today I finished Dragon Quest XI S DEMO on switch, it took me 6 hours, after that I ordered the full game, I never played any Dragon Quest before, and it's one of the best game on switch (after DK) .
the AI on the automatic combat is actually pretty good and there multiple settings so you can have them act how you want them to it's actually a godsend for grinding.
The reason Dragon Quest is like all those things is because Dragon Quest came up with these tropes and other series copied them because of its popularity in Japan. Not a bad thing though since Dragon Quest is so good.

I grew up with Dragon Quest, back when it was called ‘Dragon Warrior’ on the NES. Dragon Warrior 4 was one of the best games I ever played an the NES. Fantastic and huge. I’m really excited to catch up with the franchise, since that’s the last Dragon Quest game I played.

The composer for dragon quest is one of the greatest of all time, but they always repeat the same melodies when they add it to the games until they get annoying, and even though there are great orchestral recordings of his work, they recreated the same old songs in poor quality synthy-sounding samples. The one that pisses me off is actually the happy main theme that they use for all the trailers and main menus of the games, because Koichi Sugiyama has written so much better stuff than that, but the devs have to stick to the "icons" of dragon quest I guess. They didn't add any new melodies to fit the new game specifically either. Zelda, in contrast, has almost no voice acting budget, but they spend more on the music, even though the new melodies aren't coming from the original composer anymore.
Thats bc in the ps4 version you have to do midis and the music in dq11 isnt as good as prev titles, however on the swich you can change that to orchestral music and also play the dq8 music which is widely known as the best dq music, so im not sure as to your point

Jai Ko I mean I like Zelda it's my favorite franchise but BOTW has alot of flaws people overlook -_- that makes it less repayable to me than older games. DQ 11 is so dam good I want remakes of every DQ game to be more like it because it's so good its hard to go back and play the others even though I want to. Also it has a sky wale as your air ship so basically you have the wind fish for your ride in this game XD

I got all that stuff too. In fact I got TWO of the DQ Edition Switches (each with a 1TB micro SD, one for digital only of all the best games, the other for physical + digital only games), the Slime controller, and the game digitally and physically.
As i dive 50 hours into this game and still not finishing act2 , the more i regret starting this fantastic game on the PS4, the addition of the functions on the Switch makes this 10/10 game a solid 11/10 plus that extra Syl storyline, the special switch console ANDZ JAPNESE dub? Great video
I honestly think this is the best RPG on the switch, and that's saying something with how many amazing ones are on it. It's become one of my favorite games ever. Both 3D and 2D are a lot of fun, and this is the best looking special edition Switch so far.

I thought my love for DQB2 was bad...but then this game was released. The storylines and characters make this game so easy to love. Thanks for introducing me to the Dragon Quest world with the DQB2 review! I'm definitely going to check out the previous ones now.
2 I recomend are 7 and 5 7 is just masive and just keeps going as you are on a masive quest to restore the entire world And 5 is unique as you watch the protagonist grow from a boy, to a young man seeking a special someone(3 difrent romance options), to finaly a father who must save his child from the Dark Lord he's battled his whole life!
Yes i agree this game is 15/10, so much fun and great adventures and stories, i also never played any Dragon Quest Main Series before, i start out with Dragon Quest Builders 2 because of your video, and because there's demo for Dragon Quest XI S in eshop i tried it and hey looks like im gonna like this game, and i purchase it later and now im already 40 hours in the game finally crafted the sword of light, but there's still lot of side quest to do
@@FelixKusuma since you haven't done some side quest, that makes sense though. I spent around 40 hours on the first part because I tried to finish all the side quest available. And it gets my level high enough so I can just auto everything, even on boss fight. The real challenge is after that though
I can't stress this enough, but if you haven't played a DQ game before or if this is your first time playing XI (and you are enjoying it), you have to play through the post-game content! Normally post-game content is, like, an extra cave or a super boss, but in this game, it's literally an entire third act that rounds off the story from the base game. In fact, some of the biggest story revelations occur in the post-game content. Not to mention a ton of gear and costumes that can only be unlocked after you beat the game. The difficulty ramps up significantly too so if you thought the base game was a cakewalk, you're in for a treat. Enjoy!
tbh the only thing i dont really like about the game(i played quite a bit of the demo so far) is the battle system, im not into turn-based fights like that at all T_T but i still kind of want to game so i will probably end up buying it anyways, as far as ive played, it felt like watching a 3d fantasy movie with a great story and i really like it in that aspect
I can not recommend playing through the series in release order highly enough. Dragon Quest is the God Father of JRPGs. Before Dragon Quest RPGs were convoluted menuwise. But Dragon Quest came along and gave the world the two button menu. One button to advance a page and one button to descend back. This simple gimmick still echoes through every single game to date. Dragon Quest is single handedly responsible for the options/settings menu found in just about every single game released today. Yes games had this before DQ but none had such a user friendly design. Dragon Quest completely changed the way every game that came after it functioned in a massive way. If you think this is no big deal try emulating the original Wizardry and Ultima(These games were the main inspiration for Dragon Quest) on DOSbox and tell me this simple control scheme didn't completely change the way we play games. This above it's heritage as the first large scale RPG on game consoles is the reason Dragon Quest is so important.

Have to admit, I've never played Dragon Quest, never felt drawn to it before, and only came to know the game because of Smash, heresy I know. But I've downloaded the demo and in my first 20 minutes of gameplay I want it. Love the fight mechanics and it is graphically beautiful with so much Dragon Ball- like characters (the King is Dr. Gero), and so on.
I love how whimsical some JRPGs are. Dragon Quest XI S is up there with one of my favourite JRPGs. Just be aware it's a LONG game. Especially when you factor in endgame. Great value for money seeing as how many hours I spent in game.
Erik is the most broken character in the game lol Unlock the skill double sword ,divide ,and fatal slash Give Erik double sword Against any boss use divide, use oomphee on erik and lower the boss defenses then use fatal slash with erik and u will basically kill the boss in less than 5-8 turn lol
DQ franchise was always so underrated, so actually no surprises on he not having played any DQ game before. DQ9 remake would definitely put the DQ franchise where it has to be. I mean with DQ11 newer generations and many players discovered the franchise but with that DQ9 remake they would do the definitive move to make DQ popular and known among all the other eternal evergeen RPGs. DQ would be in a solid place from then on.
The Zelda similarity comes from the creators of both titles are friends. In past Zelda and dragon quest games you can find references to characters from the opposing game. Also the dragonball z looking characters in dragon quest games are so similar because the creator of dbz does all the characters for dragon quest.

Luckily the Switch version has orchestrated music and you can change the over world theme to the one used in DQ8 for a change of pace

I bought this game last Friday and it's my first entry to the dragon quest series.
Better than BoTW, I’m not even joking, this game needs more attention.
Agreed if you have a switch you need this game

Jai Ko I mean I like Zelda it's my favorite franchise but BOTW has alot of flaws people overlook -_- that makes it less repayable to me than older games. DQ 11 is so dam good I want remakes of every DQ game to be more like it because it's so good its hard to go back and play the others even though I want to. Also it has a sky wale as your air ship so basically you have the wind fish for your ride in this game XD

I got all that stuff too. In fact I got TWO of the DQ Edition Switches (each with a 1TB micro SD, one for digital only of all the best games, the other for physical + digital only games), the Slime controller, and the game digitally and physically.
I love this game so much. The music is also crazy good.
As i dive 50 hours into this game and still not finishing act2 , the more i regret starting this fantastic game on the PS4, the addition of the functions on the Switch makes this 10/10 game a solid 11/10 plus that extra Syl storyline, the special switch console ANDZ JAPNESE dub? Great video

I honestly think this is the best RPG on the switch, and that's saying something with how many amazing ones are on it. It's become one of my favorite games ever. Both 3D and 2D are a lot of fun, and this is the best looking special edition Switch so far.
i am loving it so far(20+hrs in) , it feels like this one is def one of the best rpg's on the switch maybe for me octopath is just a little bit better but its def up there! cheers

I thought my love for DQB2 was bad...but then this game was released. The storylines and characters make this game so easy to love.

2 I recomend are 7 and 5
7 is just masive and just keeps going as you are on a masive quest to restore the entire world
And
5 is unique as you watch the protagonist grow from a boy, to a young man seeking a special someone(3 difrent romance options), to finaly a father who must save his child from the Dark Lord he's battled his whole life!

Yes i agree this game is 15/10, so much fun and great adventures and stories, i also never played any Dragon Quest Main Series before, i start out with Dragon Quest Builders 2 because of your video, and because there's demo for Dragon Quest XI S in eshop i tried it and hey looks like im gonna like this game, and i purchase it later and now im already 40 hours in the game finally crafted the sword of light, but there's still lot of side quest to do
40 hours and I already crafted the sword of light? that's fast. I was still on part 1 when I reached 40 hours lol

@@FelixKusuma since you haven't done some side quest, that makes sense though. I spent around 40 hours on the first part because I tried to finish all the side quest available. And it gets my level high enough so I can just auto everything, even on boss fight. The real challenge is after that though

I can't stress this enough, but if you haven't played a DQ game before or if this is your first time playing XI (and you are enjoying it), you have to play through the post-game content!
Normally post-game content is, like, an extra cave or a super boss, but in this game, it's literally an entire third act that rounds off the story from the base game. In fact, some of the biggest story revelations occur in the post-game content. Not to mention a ton of gear and costumes that can only be unlocked after you beat the game. The difficulty ramps up significantly too so if you thought the base game was a cakewalk, you're in for a treat. Enjoy!
tbh the only thing i dont really like about the game(i played quite a bit of the demo so far) is the battle system, im not into turn-based fights like that at all T_T but i still kind of want to game so i will probably end up buying it anyways, as far as ive played, it felt like watching a 3d fantasy movie with a great story and i really like it in that aspect

I can not recommend playing through the series in release order highly enough. Dragon Quest is the God Father of JRPGs. Before Dragon Quest RPGs were convoluted menuwise. But Dragon Quest came along and gave the world the two button menu. One button to advance a page and one button to descend back. This simple gimmick still echoes through every single game to date. Dragon Quest is single handedly responsible for the options/settings menu found in just about every single game released today. Yes games had this before DQ but none had such a user friendly design. Dragon Quest completely changed the way every game that came after it functioned in a massive way. If you think this is no big deal try emulating the original Wizardry and Ultima(These games were the main inspiration for Dragon Quest) on DOSbox and tell me this simple control scheme didn't completely change the way we play games. This above it's heritage as the first large scale RPG on game consoles is the reason Dragon Quest is so important.

Have to admit, I've never played Dragon Quest, never felt drawn to it before, and only came to know the game because of Smash, heresy I know.
But I've downloaded the demo and in my first 20 minutes of gameplay I want it. Love the fight mechanics and it is graphically beautiful with so much Dragon Ball- like characters (the King is Dr. Gero), and so on.
I love how whimsical some JRPGs are. Dragon Quest XI S is up there with one of my favourite JRPGs. Just be aware it's a LONG game. Especially when you factor in endgame. Great value for money seeing as how many hours I spent in game.

Unlock the skill double sword ,divide ,and fatal slash
Give Erik double sword
Against any boss use divide, use oomphee on erik and lower the boss defenses then use fatal slash with erik and u will basically kill the boss in less than 5-8 turn lol

DQ franchise was always so underrated, so actually no surprises on he not having played any DQ game before. DQ9 remake would definitely put the DQ franchise where it has to be. I mean with DQ11 newer generations and many players discovered the franchise but with that DQ9 remake they would do the definitive move to make DQ popular and known among all the other eternal evergeen RPGs. DQ would be in a solid place from then on.

Not the first time Square made a Dragon Quest Slime controller. They did it for the PS2 (remember it being advertised in Shonen Jump).
The Zelda similarity comes from the creators of both titles are friends. In past Zelda and dragon quest games you can find references to characters from the opposing game. Also the dragonball z looking characters in dragon quest games are so similar because the creator of dbz does all the characters for dragon quest.

Last time I played a DQ game was on Nintendo DS. DQ IX was awesome! I like the customizable character feature!
I watched half of this video yesterday and it would've convinced me to buy the game if I finished watching it... which wasnt necessary because I received my copy today after watching only half of this video... but man, if i hadn't felt sure about it then, I definetly would've been sure after watching the whole thing anyways... thank you so much
