The latest Jaguar XF may not look too different from the old model (or the smaller Jaguar XE), but dig beneath the sleek looks and you'll find a much-improved executive saloon. The XF is aiming to steal sales from the likes of the BMW 5 Series, Mercedes E Class and Audi A6, and this model is better than ever with a range of powerful and efficient diesel engines, a great drive and stylish interior.

People think it has a cheap interior? I took this for a test earlier in the week and cheap-looking it is not. People are mistaking 'cheap' for 'tastefully understated'.
This is an absolutely gorgeous car.
+alan mac I agree....I have an older XF and I'm very happy with the interior.
Starting at 50k.
My dream car
Yeah! I hope to buy a hugely depreciated XF within 5-6 years
@@davideselvi3906 Don't bother, once they get over 70-80,000 miles the faults begin in earnest. The 2012 3.0 litre diesel I had, kept going into restricted performance because all the technology fitted to the car to cut emissions, egr valves, dpf filters ect. become clogged. Jaguar dealership failed to sort it because it is beyond their capabilities. There were over 200 fault codes coming up on the computer, all of which could cause RP. The only way to cure it was to have all the technology removed, this massively increases the performance and mpg but renders the car totally illegal on UK roads. I got rid of it after spending 2 grand on it to no avail. Worst car I have ever had, gone back to a 5 series, should never have left.
Bought the XF a week ago. Loving it. Bought the 300bhp variant. Rocket for me.
I couldn't care less about its flaws. I would love one on my drive.
I had an XF from new for five years until I had a 2-year overseas assignment and having no storage I was forced to sell it. Never failed me with regular servicing and where I was pleasantly surprised was I received no end of potential offers due to its appearance.
Had my xf two years love it ..
Looking forward to buy one sooner or later
@Roger does it give you any problems
He has the potential as the fourth member for Jeremy Clarkson & Co.
Scooby Doo tried that by introducing Scrappy Doo and look how that turned out!
I have had two XF's, a Premium Lux and a Portfolio S, both incredible cars, so good I have since bought an XJ Portfolio, my 6th Jag. If you decide to go for an XF get the 3ltr diesel, loads of power and still good mpg.
How is the reliability for the XF. I was thinking about a 2016 model
Only problem I had was with the batteries on my first XF. There are two batteries, the smaller of the two is specific to the start/stop function. I had a bunch of electrical gremlins like central locking not working etc, my mechanic checked the batteries, small one needed changing, £80, all problems resolved. Other than that both were incredible cars. Good luck and enjoy.
I bought a used one this January. it is amazing
Just brought one of these and I love it!!
Just wanted to say that as ever, Mat Watson is an excellent presenter/reviewer. I hope that he ends up on Top Gear.
Strongly disagree. His style is littered with juvenile enthusiasm and quirks which spoil it. If you like that type of presenting you won't notice. But for me it grates. Topgear is geared towards 18-35 year olds and again juvenile and has become more sitcom rather then serious car review program. The sit-com sketchs have become the star of the show bit the cars.
This presenter is inaccurate as well. The jaguar diesel isn't noisy either it's super quiet in it's cabin. The fuel economy is very good as well ..another false claim
Jaguar-Land Rover designers and engineers have made huge leaps in revolutionising these brands over the last decade in keeping up with Royal bred cars from Britain (except that this is an animal)...and the deciding factor would be reliability and as for the shortfalls mentioned, nothing comes "perfect". Well done Jag!
People love to beat up on Jaguars. I'm in my 2nd. The 1st an 03 S Type with the 4.2 V8. Drove it 13 yy with , zero problems or issues. Drove 154k well loved miles. I only sold it to buy my 2013 XF Supercharged V8 Portfolio edition. Again in the 75k miles I have on it again trouble free no issues except I had to replace the battery at 6 years old. I love the car and unless Tata stops running them into the ground and destroying JLR my next car will be another Jaguar. If Tata hasn't gone out of business. If you want a good CF go for the 1st or 2nd generation. The quality is much better than the new
Before people bash Jags quality, or making out it is not as good as the Germans, remember there is more to quality than how solid the door sounds or how well lined up the stitching on the dashboard is. Exposed metal underneath the rear parcel shelf in the boot is nothing new and pretty much all this cars rivals are the same. I have just read an article about an owner of a new £30k Audi TT in which the owner had to reject it because of how many times it went back to fix squeaks and rattles. In the states Volkswagens have such a poor reputation for reliability and quality, BMW have the highest engine failure rate according to JD Power and Mercedes are slap bang average. Jaguar and Land Rover actually outscored the Germans last year for reliability, and overall customer satisfaction, they always score right at the top. Also remember this is the very first production run of this model, these thing get sorted out.
Worth seeing the Lexus IS then. Outscored pretty much every other premium car. No exposed metal or misaligned stitching on those and they don't break down either
It's not the 1st production run if this car. The 1st generation was from 08 to 2011 the 2nd generation started in 2012, also the 2012 was the last generation to purchase a V8 or Supercharged V8. This car is if the 3rd generation.
I couldnot agrre more
Looks great to me, I've been in the new XF and it's better than my previous BMW and my friends Audi A6...
XF-S and R-Sport models look sharper than this entry level model though. Interior is best in cream, white or suede, all black is a bit dull. The 10" touchscreen is a step up from the standard 8" in this one, it's faster and integrates into dashboard better.
F-Pace will probably be the pick of the new Jags when it comes out very soon!
Can't agree more , a better car than the A6 and 5 series. Not quite as comfortable as the e class in a straight line, however handles much better. One tip ...... If you can. Get the 10inch infotainment system.
from France :it is a beautiful car ;)
They are good and classic cars I've had mine 3yrs and loving it.
do you still have it? and how's it running?
@@levismith5169 hey that thing run like it brand new.
@@shirleymorman345 good to hear, I’m buying a 2017 XF right now
@@levismith5169 congrat drive careful
There is that elegant look of a Jaguar that audi and bmw don't have.
Everyone look so pumped up for the next e-class, not me. There is no true work, they just took the design of the s-class and force it on other models. Now If a merc passes in front of me i can barely differentiate the models. Not so long ago you could differentiate the cars, now merc is just doing like everyone else: Use the same design everywhere. For me there is no reason to be so hyped.
+Fabian Honor hear hear!
+Fabian Honor Because alot of people who buy those cars dont want a massive sign saying " this car is worth over 60 grand please try and break in"
@Fabian do take a drive in the new E-class, it's a beauty. ....I think the move to take the S-class platform is great as it affords those of us who can't afford the price to still experience the S-class in a sense.
+stokely matwi why is the whole dashboard on the coming E-class an ugly LCD screen? Enjoy those dead pixels which _will_ appear sooner rather than later.
+supremacistdawn For people who buy such expensive cars, the cost of fixing it is very negligible.
Jags look better than Merc and BMW. Just a bit classier yet restrained. The C Class is nice but it's a trophy car that screams look at me. E and S Class are for older gentleman. The XE and XF will suit young an old especially the Sport trim
Don't care about the problems. Isn't going to stop me wanting one. Not the 2.0 tho. And as for people bashing reliability, we've had jags in our household for the last 13 years and never had a single issue. Perfect!
Your right in giving the 2.0 a swerve. I bought a 2014 XF Portfolio 3.0 last week and love it .
Hang on I'm 6'3 and I sat in the back of a 2009 XF, when being picked up to get my hire car and my head didn't touch the roof!
+sw1000xg It does depend on you're body though. If you're legs are longer you'll have more trouble with knee room whereas if you have a long torso, headroom might be a problem
+Rayaan Shaikh buncha freaks, go be 182cm like normal ppl
+sw1000xg I'm 196 and could not fit in the back of the old one without being 'wedged' in, haven't been in the new one yet. I can't fit front or rear in the XE.
+Mario D. Zmaj jealous migit
Omar Naviwala no, you're just a freak
As from today there is now one on my drive. I love it
Jaguar is only and will remain a British pride but can never outgun the german rivals BMW and Mercedes who lay the standards of a modern car.
*English pride maybe. It is an English car. In fact, all car brands in Britain are English. I don't know of any Scottish or Welsh car brands.
+Eric Morgan is a Welsh car brand. There are several more. Morgan was actually one of the first British car manufacturers, just a little fact for you as you seem in educated.
+Eric Also even Aston Martin is made in Wales and Jaguar test there cars there also. Wales also don't loose to Iceland in the euros. :)
BOOMDEAD Games BMW has a plant in the US of A, doesn't make BMW American, lots of car manufactures test their cars in Sweden, doesn't make their cars...Swedish.
As for Morgan Motor Company it's English, like I've said, all car brands in Britain are English.
The 2015 and 2016 models look much nicer and much more Jaguar than the most recent models.
Not only is he British, he sounds like a Brummie !!
He probably lives down the road from Castle Brom !
Windows in the back a bit small making the cabin a bit dark? But you completely missed that they purposefully put in 1/4 light windows behind the passenger windows.
New E-Class is way ahead in terms of technology and quality!
+value 934 Merc make billions more so they should!
+sw1000xg no excuse jaguar is overprice
Uncle Ben
You mean like the Germans?
the jag is a worthy competitor and it's won on head to head tests
+value 934 But the car hasn't been revealed yet. Only snippets of the interior are available as of now.
It looks better than the rivals. But I don't like Audi approach to design - it has to change, you can't make it the same thing all over again.
+mieguistumas you are funny ..Jaguar is doing the same thing !! lol.
ki flex Which is my point :D
all of them do the same thing audi bmw jaguar and mercedes but i have to say the audi models are the best distinguishable of them all
A-R4SCH My English is not good, sorry. I meant to call this tradition the "Audi approach", not meaning that they are the only ones doing that. However, in my opinion, Audi is very much doing that fof a very long time.
Very good automotive journalist I have to say!!
Sub because you are one the best reviewer of all cars there is no one better matey, based on your review I have bought this car thanks
I dont get it. the old XF is better in EVERYTHING. especially the interior is much more luxurious and (what the fuck?) more modern.
I could see this guy being the new Hammond - which is either a massive compliment or a massive insult. Either way he'd be good on the new format TG
my xf has the middle vents that also tilts when you turn on this ignition. This does not have it anymore..
Please review the new Jaguar XJ!
I have no idea which one this is, is it the small one, the middle one or the big one. They all look the same FFS.
I don't hear you complaining about Ferrari. ...
as do bmw and porsche
I hear you, Audi is the worst at this. Doesn't mean that what Jaguar did isn't a joke.
Yes audi are probably the worst but I think it's a handsome design and there are subtle changes that differentiate the models
Wtf do the California T, 488 GTB, F12 Berlinetta, FF and LaFerrari look the same for you ? Besides the Logo they look nothing alike to me. And people complaining about BMW if you can't see the difference between 1,3,5,7 you might have to get some glasses.
It's fair for Mercedes and Audi though.
Jaguar isn't trumping any of its rivals in interior design. You're heaping praise on it simply because it's a British brand (now controlled by Indians)
i'm looking to buy this car when my Ford Focus 2008 fully dies. A Jaguar XF starting from year 2015. The noise when u accelerated was pretty normal i think, it's just a stronger engine, same with motorcycles. Bigger engines make more noise when accelerating.
I love British cars
Ok, I'm ruling that one out.
My short list for my next car, admittedly not until next year, was:-
Jaguar XF
BMW 5 series (535d ?)
Mercedes E class
Tesla
Lexus
Top of the range Mondeo (yes, seriously )
Porsche Cayenne
Volvo XC90
LR Discovery
Strike the XF off that then.
***** I've put the XF back on the list. It's either that, the 535d, or the Audi A6 for me.
Can't recommend it enough. The fact the entry level Prestige model has premium stuff like heated electric leather seats and a reversing camera is ridiculous. I could've bought a 2014 XF Portfolio with the same gear for more money - and it would've been a Mondeo underneath. ;)
Asher Baker x type was a Mondeo platform, never the xf....
Asher Baker sorry but that's not the case. X type was based on Mondeo. Original XF was based on old S type which was in turn a modified older platform borrowed from Lincoln. Current XF is all new platform as you say...
Asher Baker agreed, I'm really pleased with my new one too
How is the 2.0d?any problems with the engine? Gearbox??? Help
Such a beautiful car. Makes a 5 series look so cheap and naff
Whoa, that naked metal and everything at 5:17 looks reeeeeeal bad and cheap. 0 effort was given.
+Uldis Stīpnieks I guess Tata got the idea of "Britannian minimalism" from British Leyland... :P
I think you can get that changed to piano black or some other veneer that you fancy.
BMW 5 series has no trim on the upper boot neither does the E Class. If trim on a part of the car you will never see in important to you buy a Lexus GS they are fully trimmed and the best made interior of all cars in this sector.
eastwood978 hahahahah thats BS considering my dad has a 2017 GS which has the metal exposed on top
Uldis Stīpnieks
Maybe you can hear the engine more cause theres little noise isolation, unlike those 'BMW's ... u know.
1:05 - On par with the germans, you say? I just watched the new E Classe interior video, so, not any more, it isn`t...
I've a 2016 xf portfolio. My father in law has An e class same year. The interior in the Jag is IMHO a nicer place to be. The Merc is slightly more comfortable in a straight line, but the jaguar handles much better.
@@me-us1lw Great choice! I sincerely hope to buy one sooner or later! At the moment I have a BMW 3 series G20 MY 19, but as soon as the leasing expires, I want to purchase the second generation XF from a private (so I can pay that in full) and keep it as soon as it lasts! Alternatively, I would go for the older XF! They're absolutely great cars!! Cheers from Italy
I'm in Toronto Canada and will drive mostly city in our cold winters. There is a person ( via the mechanic) 2011 XE Portfolio v8. He is asking too much. That aside should I look at 2016 ( design change)? A v6 - I'm not sure if it is in the Canadian market. Suggestions.
Ive had one for 6 months now and here goes with the faults
1. Rear door FILLED up with water.
2. Abs warning light comes on now and then.
3. Brakes squeal like mad.
4. Steering has failed leaving it really unstable, new rack is £2500.00!!!
5. Trunk key release has failed.
6. Pad warning light on even though pads arent worn.
7. Stop start system isnt working.
8. Metalic rubbing noise from rear.
9. Sat nav doesnt work anymore.
10. Dynamic mode doesnt work sometimes.
11. Drivers seat has developed a loud squeak every time you go over a slight bump.
JUST WAITING FOR THE NEXT THING TO GO WRONG.
BY THE WAY THE CAR HAS ONLY DONE 25K
U HAVE BEEN WARNED
Any 2015 2ltr.d owners had problems with the dpf exhaust filter
Love my 2018 XF 35 PORTFOLIO Limited.
Just wait for Jan 2016 when the updated E class is launched.
And the new 5 Series
Great review.
Thanks!
Still confused , Audi A6 matrix or this Jaguar XF?
The front is *nothing* like the old one, the new grill is fully flatfronted making the car timeless. Changes the whole look and a World better than the sloping old dinosuarish one.
"Dinosaurish"? Dude, you're trippin' ... the older one (X250, LCI) is timelessly gorgeous.
The mpg results in their shows are all misleading I think. The manufacturers' claims are all based on controlled conditions like stop-and-go only up to 2500rpm or less, cruise at 2000rpm or less, using way less braking, etc. I tried driving under such conditions and am happy to report a massive difference of up to 3ltr/100km. Like Jeremy Clarkson proved (the M3 being more economical than the prius), it's more how we drive than the car itself that improves mpg.
I *so* wanted an XF but the death of the V6 S killed it off for me. Honestly, I test drove one, it was a lovely car - but come time to buy, it was these crappy 4-pot Ford lumps on offer at my price range. That was the nail in the coffin for me. 330d followed soon after and, I hate to admit it, but it knocks the XF into a cocked hat if you're after something that feels on the sporty side of special. I know people will label me a BM fanboy but rest assured, I hated the idea of owning one up until that point. If you have a passion for driving and feeling special, rather than boasting about rising gear selector knobs, then the XF really has missed the mark. If you're after a relaxed, nice-riding executive saloon and aren't all that fussed about the dynamics of the car, then the XF will float your boat... the ride is about all it's got going for it. And when you factor in PRICE, I'm sad to say, BMW dealers will cut you a far bigger deal and you'll get a LOT more car for your money than Jag will sell you.
Cant wait for the 2017 E Class.
Why Jaguar? After the XF being the car that relaunched as a real competitor to the Germans, followed by the amazing F-Type would you next release such boring copy and paste jobs that are the XE and XF. That interior makes me think Toyota Avensis. The exterior is indistinguishable from the XE and neither of them look anywhere near as nice as the last gen XF, F-Type, XK or XJ.
yea that interior looks cheap as. I much prefer the interior on my mk1 XF. However I think the sweet spot is going to be the mk2 XF.
Interior looks like a Mondeo... The old one has class
Quite a bit of skimping going on Jag.
the interior of the XE looks almost the same but for some reason it has a classier look (on video anyway)
Can you pls do a jaguar f-pace portfolio review .
Thanks
It's now 2018 and nothing about the xf has changed from 2015
I really like this car.
so much clicking to do after every carbuyer video
Please review the Skoda New Superb
Already reviewed...
+Andreas Lie But not the Saloon/Sedan version
Oh
Oh well
great review mat , but i will choose the A6 all the time .
How nasty are those pull catches at 5:17? They're like something a cheap lawnmower has. Not a £50k car.
The end was great lol.
+carbuyer the review of the BMW 5 series is outdated in order to properly compare...
They should have used some sort of tool to measure noise!!!! It would be cool!
Buying this Jaguar xf next week. Cannae wait to collect the keys and pick up the car. 🏴👌😁
How is your experience till now
Flipping the seats is an extra in 2015? That's a good enough reason not to buy it. Just like BMW, Audi and Mercedes. They charge money for stuff you get as standard in a damn Fiesta. I have the money to buy a car this expensive, but there is NO reason AT ALL to waste my money. These companies don't deserve ANY of it.
Xf the best jaguar ever
Best car reviewer Matt , let him do all the videos please :):) he is funny too
2012 to 15 model way better looking b4 they stretched it, made it cheaper should've kept real leather dash and a lot of the beautiful touches in previous. Far classier last model. Now they've messed it up.
Anyone knows a sedan which can seat 4 people in the 2nd row? Can this jaguar seat?
Noisy? More noise than an eclass? Jaguar xf is famed for its refinement and cabin silence
Mat, Mat, Mat, listen Which would you recommend , XF, 5Series or wait for S90?
its funny how expensive this car is while i can get 2016 Mazda with sexy interior for half the prize . i bet cars this days is about the name .
+Techno Gameo the mazda 6 will be outdated and worth nothing in 3 years time, the jaguar is a more timeless car
Mazda lol what a battyboy
I think that car sounds excellent for a diesel
I would like to see the new Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV!
New A4, case closed.
I watched a carwow video before this
aluminium body is great
All those problems you mentioned are minor??? They are the difference between a well sorted and designed car and one that is not.
ngl the seats in the back look the same as a ford fiesta
Only rear parking sensors? (as standard)
Only 6 airbags?
But competition for Audi, BMW and Merc is never bad!
+Kitsune very weird, even the toyota camry/avensis has 10 airbags
Best car on the road 😊
Can you make a review of the lexus nx200t? :)
+Hariz Nurhakim He has. UA-cam it.
Woeful interior design, fit and finish. BMW 5 Series and Merc E Class far more solid!
And twice the price
I have owned a 2013 2.2D XF Sportbrake for a couple of months now. 3 issues with it. The windscreen angle shows horrible reflections of the dashboard. The control for setting the cruise control is terrible - difficult to engage CC - refer to BMW for how to do it right. Fuel consumption - no way will you get anywhere near the quoted figures. I am averaging 33 mpg. Plus point - the looks - gorgeous and a lot sexier than the saloon.
Maybe it can be cross shopped against BMW, but it's not even close to E-Class or A6 refinement.
What age is Mat?
please review new lexus gs
A new Skoda Superb in the L&K trim (4x4 , 190Bhp Diesel) is better car and will save you lots of money. Yes Jaguar is sportier, but honestly very few people care about sport driving when buying cars of this class and size.
Trust me, I do care about a sporty ride. That's what the XF delivers beautifully.
make a vw phaeton review pls
Jaguar used to have the most attractive cars ever produce now...Just ugly heaps.
Oh and FYI they no longer are British, they belong to the Tata group and therefore are Indian.
I don't like this XF and also the XE, they are boring and don't have that Jaguar magic I think. Love the XJ though.
No matter how british u think jag is. Its not under tata!
The old is better
this or 5 Series,GS,2016 E CLASS or Audi?
+Sebastian Lim the upcoming E class. so much more luxury.
+Sebastian Lim E Class is the best out of those.
+Sebastian Lim I would take the GS or maybe the E-Class. A6 and CTS are also a bit nicer.
+Sebastian Lim Depends when you're planning on buying. If now, then prob the Audi A6, if you're willing to wait a bit then either the E=class or 2016 GS which is getting a facelift.
I'd wait for the next E or the next 5, depending on whether you want full luxury or dynamic luxury.
