- Last years National Champions, Carmel High, take on Palma High for the Regional Finals.
The Mock Trial Program is an exciting law-related educational program that introduces high school students (grades 9-12) to the American legal system. Mock trials are structured like "real" court trials and follow the same rules. The program pairs students with mentors from the legal community. Through one-on-one interactions with attorney coaches, a student's understanding of the law is greatly enhanced.
Through role-playing, students gain an understanding of our judicial system--what roles judges, lawyers, juries and witnesses play in the system. Additionally, students develop critical thinking and public speaking skills and a working knowledge of our legal practices and procedures.
Wow, I watched the entire Trial.
These young Men and Women really have their acts together and success will follow them throughout their lives. They studied admirably hard and rarely had any faux pas errors.
Many Bar Licensed Attorneys could learn a thing or two from this Courtroom Mock Trial Presentation.
Agreed!
This is perfect
the kid in the purple tie did a really good job. I am 8 minutes in and he handled the judge's question well and is able to present everything very well. I don't understand how these are high school kids. they all did a good job
the questions are staged and its a closed world enviroment. They know each others arguments left and right
Exactly my comment.
@@jimmysmith9395 besides scripted questions, which there’s zero possibility to remember an entire script like that. 🙄
In the real court of law, you have a discovery. This is the legal requirement of parties to provide obtaining evidence from the opposing party and others by means of discovery devices including requests for answers to interrogatories, requests for production of documents and things, requests for admissions, and depositions.
Both sides and the judge LEGALLY must be aware of all aspects of the case. While the structure to the argument won’t be, the arguments themselves will be. In jury cases, they even have jury instructions. Everyone is informed. That isn’t a “mock trial” thing.
This student did an AMAZING job. There was no script he was reading from. There was no memorized questions, while many attorneys generally have an outline they refer to.
He did an incredibly job. Let him have the credit he deserves.
The judges questions genius. The participants didn't ask questions. I'm sure this judge didn't ask for a bench memo at all
Yeah some judge is just gonna hear a bunch of high school kids arguments without being briefed lol. The questions asked by the judge are like directing questions and the cases the bench memo briefed him on had cases he's dealt with millions of times even real life oral argument questions are scripted
That mock defense attorney is 👌🏼
Extremely professional, well spoken, and educated on the topic. You wouldn’t know that he wasn’t a barred attorney without the introduction.
I can’t wait until I’m to this point of my education, even though I want to be on the side of the prosecution.
What is barred attorney
wow the guy in the yellow tie was amazing, i think what helped is that he spoke clear and spoke normally, sometimes people talk fast and stutter when they are nervous, its normal but i think the guy in the yellow tye had really great public speaking skills
He is amazing I've seen his another mock trial as a prosecution side and it was so GOOD
I agree, he talks ‘normally’. He doesn’t sound as monotone as purple tie
Who is the one in yellow tie
Incredible performance! All should be extremely proud of themselves!
If the prosecution was aiming that the defendant was right handed, the defendant should’ve brought up that the blood splatter was on his left?
These are absolutely amazing. Only thing is 1: don’t ask ‘may I begin your honor’, the judge has already said go ahead and you’re wasting time and most judges get annoyed by that. 2: don’t ask/say “may so&so introduce themselves” may annoy judges.
All of you searched for this

@@user-rd8ux6tq2n 😂 Doctor Mike's video: Med School vs Law School brought me here 🤷♀️. Mock trial was mentioned in there and I was like "yeah why not search for it, seems interesting."

too much good afternoon your houner !
Amazing mock trial by high school students!
the kid in the purple had a great argument and great points. his case and delivery could be better if he was more confident, he comes off as shy and timid.
The future of the legal profession is BRIGHT!
Nice, I watched the entire video, and I'm still 14 years old. Love it! I want to become a lawyer, when I've grown a little, even though people around me advice me not to. I really don't have much of any idea about how going to trial is, unfortunately, I usually have to only spend my time reading the laws in Dk, but this is pretty inspiring👍
Good job by these highschool-kids ;-)
Keep it going buddy
Let the naysayers be the fuel to reach your dream. I've been a juror for a civil case and I'm a second year law student here in the U.S.. It's amazing to see how the judicial system works first hand. You won't regret the experience. Best of luck!
read a lot, get familiar with a courtroom. If you can watch a trial at your local courtroom (yes, the public can watch without giving any explanation, you simply show up.) (I am a former paralegal) good luck and reach out if you have questions...
hey man u in a mock trial team now?
I started playing ace attorney phoenix wright
Lmao same
The prosecution was extremely good with cross and direct examinations!!
ALL ARE THIRD PARTY JUDGE/ PROSECUTOR/ ATTORNEY WHICH MAKES IT HEARSAY - TRINSEY v. PAGLIARO
I literally have no interest in becoming a lawyer but I love watching these lol
Great video to educate the public

These kids would kick my arse in court. And i got first class honours...
39:32 Wow I wish witnesses in real trials would speak up clearly and audibly like this young lady does, I'm sure many trial lawyers would agree with me.
It’s the clearest of all witnesses
Haha, nice trial, and I can't wait until I go to this meeting with Palma High School in this year's mock trial case
Some of the comments here does not surprise me...smh..
Anyway, for high school level, this was very well done. Thumbs up for the participants. I would say they all have a future in law. Keep pushing, keep practicing. GREAT JOB!😊
I signed up for my school's Mock Trial club, first meeting gonna be Wednesday, I'm hyped as shit
hey how did it go??
Competition season is among us and I hope you make it to Nationals
wow, how did these high school kids get to do this. i’m a freshman striving to be a lawyer some day as well and i think this is really cool
How are they so professional. They’re like 17 with minds of a 40 year old.
I’m sorry but ma’am what does professionalism have to do with age? And what does having an intellectual mind have to do with age as well? by you stating that they have minds of a 40 year old, you are indirectly saying that at 40 years old you are automatically declared intelligent, when that’s far from the truth. The intellectualness and compositeness of a persons mind and character has nothing to do with age. That’s why they are so professional. Because that’s how they choose to be, which at any age you hold the capability.
@@indeedConfirmed you seem like the person who just like to argue on UA-cam 🤣😂🤣
@@indeedConfirmed bro it's not that serious, Lol.
@@indeedConfirmed calm down bud
good job but i notice a lot of them act way too argumentative in their opening statements and they become too bold and direct when they should be relaxed and conversational for the sake of persuasion
As a youth and government 8th grader, im going from legislative to judicial, wish me luck.
Wish you many blessing
I’m just here because I want to either become a lawyer/ or a research lawyer on-top of criminal psychology.
I most searched video but i wanted to know the condition of lawyers in court in different countries .
Can’t wait till I get too law school.
Meh! Just go to one of those high schools. They seem to be cranking out some pretty sharp minds! 😁
so I did not realize these were high schools kids. Some were a bit ostentatious and intrepid to the point I felt a disconnect. Like the tone of voice from the first witness on the stand, I’ve never heard a witness speak like that. Of course I understand now knowing it’s high school kids. I felt some tried to cajole the court & jury but all were both passionate and erudite. They should be really proud of themselves!
Lol the way the both of them kept unbuttoning their suit jackets when they sat down and re-buttoned them when they sat up drove me crazy.
You don’t like people that wear suits the right way?
That’s what you’re supposed to do
Because if you sit down with a buttoned fitted suit you could possibly burst the buttons
Lol so true
Great job yall!!!
Wow !!!!! I wish my Highschool would’ve had opportunities like this
They kid playing mr Davidson did a terrific job on cross
The first witness is a really good actor
May I ask, is this from law school, where people do mock trials like the real world? So they're basically taking a test almost? Or preparing for one
Thanks!
These were high schoolers competing in their county CRF mock trial finals 😊
I can't wait to be there someday I'll be like them
Watching this to understand law school kdrama better 😂😂😂
They are all so convincing,.... daaah
No disrespect to Carmel, but they did not win the 2017 National Championship. That was the Central Carolina Homeschoolers from North Carolina.
They won the California State Championship and the Empire New York World Championship. Empire is sometimes nicknamed nationals.
@@liviafork Once again, no disrespect, but I've only ever heard of the National High School Mock Trial Championship referred to as "nationals," even by the people who run Empire. Empire is a preseason competition that does refer to itself as the "world championship," so maybe that is what you are thinking of. Carmel is an amazing program, but they weren't the national champions in 2017.
@@darrenallen237 I’m on the Carmel team. For some reason we use Nationals and Worlds interchangeably.
@@darrenallen237 Besides it was probably just a mistake from the network. Our coach wouldn’t mistakenly claim to have won nationals, he knows the difference.
Towards the end you could tell that girl was trying to keep it together so hard
Very 👍 ..you all are going places

Which school is this?
Carmel High and Palma High
Mock trial exactly what it sounds like brought to you from Moe Gangat no Jumper
it is unreasonable to think that any third party could broker information. Further, we did not give consent to anyone beyond said provider, regardless of what was coerced from us in the fine print.
That is why the “interpretation” is subject to cross examination, or rather the interpreter. Third party consultant evaluations are admitted frequently.
Class project.
I had a mock trial in class in the 8th grade. I was the defendants’ lawyer in the accusations that the three individual teens I was defending murdered someone during a robbery. We were somehow able to convince the jury that that one of the victims was the murderer who shot someone...
The “no further questions your honor” technique really works.
@@TheCommandant-wb9tv How did you argue it? It seems pretty interesting.
@@AnhNguyen-te8ek It was pretty interesting actually.. I didn’t even know how I managed to pull it off
@@TheCommandant-wb9tv i did a mock trial in 7th grade public safety and i was the prosecutor against three armed robbers that had attempted to murder a store clerk and had killed a dog. i was a really shit prosecutor but one person was found guilty so 🤷
That’s gotta be super fun
Being part of this program is one of the most fun and rewarding things you can do in school.
Also, they don’t give much homework! ;)
How many people here because they saw mock trial on indeed and needed a job badly
the guy with the yellow tie knew what he was talking abt, didnt stutter at all
Having a speech impediment and showing physical signs of physical nervousness has nothing to do with "knowing what you're talking about" and isn't an accurate measure of wether someone comprehends concepts less than another person. Tf is you on?
My laziness is to the point that I watched the entire thing and understood everything
did they seriously spend like a year rehearsing for this?? it's weird is this a private school or something
Usually schools and even public schools have kids who want to be lawyers or something in the law mock a trial to give them experience
I had a mock trial in 8th grade with jury. It’s not weird, it’s just good to experience and learn methods about. I was the defendant lawyer for 3 suspects who robbed and shot a man on a bus, which they did do, and was able to use the victims’ own evidence against them lmao. We had like 23 juries and my team of 3 lawyers were able to manipulate the jury to believe that the defendants were no guilty lol. I had no intention on blaming the murder on someone else, but rather an unintentional discharge when the weapon dropped to the ground, but I guess we went the other way instead. “No further questions your honor” is my favorite line.
Oh yea and as for the robbery, we made it seems as like an argument , rather than a robbery, so more of a dispute
yes, but its less rehearsed than it is practiced. you have no idea what the other side is going to say
@@TheCommandant-wb9tv Whoa thats sooo cool.
the guy in the yellow tie was like yell talking at the start

"i liked the comment "awashed with reasonable doubt" Masterful.
why tf do they say your honor every 2 seconds we get it
i mean that’s how they’re supposed to address the judge, it’s (in the context of this mock trial) his courtroom and he has earned his way to his position
@@beizbub4795 Oh of course, but do you really say to your friend John "John would you like to go out to eat John"
