As a LUMIX user I felt a lot of the hate came from Sony users because Sony flies folks out too but now that LUMIX is growing from a camera that wasn’t deemed pro gear to a true competitor of Sony and Canon folks are trying to defend why they are spending twice as much for Sony.
Many of the reviews of the S9 stated that it’s a fun camera but not a professional cinema cam. I’m considering getting the S9 because I shoot street photography with film and the in cam Luts will help make that experience fun. Also if I’m doing SM ads for clients I think the S9 would be a great camera where you can do an interview or gear review, edit in camera and deliver ASAP. Time is money so that’s to benefit of it.
I don’t think anyone lied or were dishonest

In lots of countries you can't simply "rent" gear so you if you plan to relly on YT reviews you simply cannot trust in anyone that is "having fun" with the gear because that is subjective.
You should not assume things. Viewers should be totally aware of sponsorships of any kind.
Gerald's video was not about the camera specs, was about how companies, Panasonic specifically, target creators for fabricating good initial impressions.
Creators can have gear sent to them for review and I bet it would be far cheaper than have them fliying and accomodated in Japan.

fellow R5C user here, great camera!
A lot of these youtubers slammed the R5C when it was released, but the ones that didn't are mostly using it day in day out in their business and youtube ain't their main gig.
I'm 50/50 photography/video and for me there's nothing that comes close in one camera to the R5C for the price

I see Gerald's point that he's upset that Panasonic stopped hitting him up for trips because he said the camera was weird. Some of these UA-camrs will tell you to not buy any new gear. Clearly that person is not invited to the camera launch party. I think that most customers don't know a lot and they will heard advice on UA-cam but not have enough skill and knowledge to actually understand what the advice was, so they will get it wrong. They then hear Gerald say this camera is weird and they don't buy it when they would have liked it. I can see both sides.

    3:44 "I don't shoot Lumix, I shoot cameras"
    Accidentally genius, lol.

Lumix has created a new lane for cameras. This is it for content creators you don't need much and plus the app is dope.

Lumix has created a new lane, it's the slow lane for the brain damaged quad vaccinated who are dumb enough to drop 1.5k on a piece of junk.

I liked a comment about Gerald's video that just asked, "why now?" No one said anything for years when this was going on. Shimoda sends $400 bags to UA-camrs like junkmail and no one bats an eye. It's only now when Gerald gets left out that he decides to make this moral stand. I like the guy's channel but let's be real - small UA-camrs can't go out and just buy all the new cameras to review them, and let's not pretend that professional gear reviewers aren't salesmen. If there's no gear, what do they talk about? Just look at Marques Brownlee - dude has a 7 figure income. Everyone is chasing that success to be the next Brownlee or Unbox therapy which means talking about new products and "helping" people spend their money.

Why Now? I think because its time to go back in time when youtube first introduced in this world. Back than most of contents creator have real job. Contents creating wasnt source of their main income. So most of video was look way more sincere even there are some bias on their messages.

Seems like you did not watched the entire video or did not get Gerald's point.
Its not about him specifically being left out, but about Panasonic getting people that would "enjoy" using the camera to share good opinions in a pleasant trip environment.
This cause that the initial "reviews" are biased towards the trip experience rather than properly and objectively documenting the pros and cons of the gear.
Basically they want to push initial sales with influencers' first takes. Then when people buy it and realize they need to upgrade, its too late.
So NOW is still a good time to have the conversation.
UA-camrs can still have gear sent to them and they can review it properly and within a better time frame.

I haven't seen a good word about the S9, just people being like it's fine if you don't mind the issues.
I think it's a great camera if you aren't trying to do pro work. We need more compact cameras. And this is a full frame camera about $100 less than the X100VI, better AF, better IBIS, deeper colour customization, it's just a great value proposition for people who want a small everyday carry. I'd rather lose pro features to make something easier to carry. All that said the pancake lens is not it. They need to give us something like the Nikon or Canon 28f2.8. 😂

free advertisement for Lumix. I would have never heard of the S9 before this.

Yeah but you're tripping if you dont think Gerald's opinion matters for long term sales. I and many others literally bought an S5 due to his review. If he never reviews a Lumix again, or cloaks it in negativity, then attention for its own sake wont be enough to be a net postiive. There's a reason a negative MKHD review can destory a company today.

Thanks for the commentary , I mean that ! I think this was very level and respectful ! I will say, I have no fight left for the internet, my man is TIRED. My entire point I left in Shawn’s video was perhaps WATCH those videos, the red/pyxis thing I actually explained the next day as to WHY I did, and it was a commentary on how filmmaking UA-camrs ( a small handful) have access to any camera they want, so OWNING a red wasn’t necessary (I’ve still operated on one and did directly after that) nor here nor there, I had a comment of disagreement with Shawn in a previous video, and we talked in private where I thought we just agreed to disagree, i thought nothing of it until I saw a follow up video which sounded like a formed outlook by just reading titles and thumbnails and rolling with that, which was the disagreement I had, if you call people out GOOD! But be accurate and well researched or were the pot calling the kettle black
The comments are up, I didn’t think anything I said specifically was particularly inflammatory, if it was, I can apologize, but unfortunately Shawn’s made more than one video about his distain for UA-cam, and all I did was try to say “it ain’t always like that”
