I can see you are very good. I have a question is how to cover the side end of the riser. I have about 12 open end stairs at both side need to cover the side of risers. I have a contractor who didn't know this will be a problem now asking me to use carpet after the entire house is wood floor now. Please help. Mine is laminated wood.
Hi, I hope this video will help you - ua-cam.com/video/sAyxEAcfXaI/v-deo.html This decorative corner you can find in home depot or lumber stores. Thanks for watching!
Thank you! I have saved sooo much money learning from youtube! contractor wanted 5-6k before materials. That was including my own labor for carpet removal and basboard trimmings!
I want to know how to do the next step down and also how do you hide the side of the riser you see on the next step down as well Pleas and thank you @mryoucandoityourself
Hi there. Great video. What size of nail do you use for attaching all the material. I bought 1½" 16 gauge. Any suggestion that is better for this application?
im in this predicament right now with my own stairs. the issue on the side nosing is that there is no wall to attach it to so the edge of it is gonna look weird.
Hi there. I am installing laminate flooring and have only one stair to do but it is in a angle and cannot much one stair nose with the other. Can you help me? Thanks. Maybe I can send you a picture.
Yes, you can send a picture. There is fast and easy way to show and discuss your problem on Google Helpouts. Just type Hardwood and Laminate Floor Installation and you'll see my list. It is like Skype.
Thanks bro. I think I got a pretty good idea of what it's gonna take to complete. Ive done laminate flooring before and been pretty successful but never stairs. With your help I think I got it! I only have one concern left, and that's my stairs were built with 2 by 12 treads so when I put my bull nose it's not going to cover it up completely. I guess I will just paint what's going to be left showing after I put bull nose on. Thanks again, and were are you located at?
I am in Canada, Vancouver city. You should install the first stair riser, bullnose and one full board of your laminate floor and then start floor installation FROM THE STAIRS. If you do like this you'll neve have any gaps between stairs and general floor. When you finish the floor you can return to the stairs and finish their installation. Unfortunately you went in another way... Honestly it is hard to give you any advices if I do not see your problem. Send me few pic and I tell you how to solve it.
Watch my vid "Laminate Flooring on Stairs: How to Start Installation" and you'll see that I start laminate stairs installation without concrete floor covering.
Hi my question is, does the nosing has to overlap on the treads? I seen other videos on laminate stairs and some of them don't look like they are overlapping. thank you.
No, the nosing hasn't to overlap on the treads. It has to attach to the treads. Watch several videos from professional floor installers and you'll see it.
The bull nose cannot be raised on a stair edge because it is a trip hazard and against the code. Always cut the stair covering short to let the bull nose settle level with the laminate so there is no raised edge.
Hi Dennis, this type of nosing is standard for a floating floor. You can send your questions to manufacturers and building departments to change the rules. Thanks!
Do you usually start from the top of the stairs and work your way down?? And does it matter if you put the riser piece in first or the tread?? Thanks brother!
1.Yes, I always start from the top and work my way down. 2.I prepare 3 parts of the stair: riser, tread and nosing and look if they fit to each other. 3. Installation (if you do not have a stair landing): a) riser b) tread c) nosing If you have more questions, please feel free.
Please be safe. I think Vinyl, Laminate, and hardwood are all dangerous on stairs. I know carpets are dirty. I think using a easily replaceable carpet runner may be the best way to go. You only have to fall down from a slippery stairs once to realize carpet is the safest option. Since permanent carpet is too hard to replace therefore I recommend a runner option.
I don't fault your methods or practices, but please don't put hard surface on steps. In my experience (20+ years) in flooring, almost everyone comes to their senses and rips hard surface off their steps or adds a runner after the first time someone slides down the steps. Don't think it will happen to you? Just wait...
Send me your email if your ok with that, so I can send you a picture? I'm gonna start this project soon but now I gotta go buy a stair measuring tool and a 23 gauge nailer my 18 gauge does leave big holes! Thanks

You are welcome!
Hi , I am always confused how to do laminate stair nosing on round stair.. the last one which is round
For round stairs we order special nosing from the shop.
How long to allow the glue to settle after installation before the stairs are used?
Next day.
I want to know how to do the next step down and also how do you hide the side of the riser you see on the next step down as well
Pleas and thank you

Your nails are too thick. I use 23 gauge.
