  • Hi friends. Today I am sharing with you 6 things I wish someone talked to me about before I went vegan eating a whole foods plant based diet. It's still Veganuary and many of you are transitioning to a vegan diet, so we are going to cover some topics that I am asked frequently about, like vegan weight loss, gas and bloating and much more. So, if you are a new vegan, a beginner to a plant based lifestyle, or even if you are already eating a vegan diet - some of these topics may be beneficial to hear, so I encourage you to stay and listen. Leave a comment with what you wished you knew before going vegan, or if you found this helpful!

Hi Tia! I am down 90 pounds from eating plant based, but when I first went vegan I was a junk food vegan and I lost a lil weight but when I went whole food plant based no oil it came off so fast at first!!! It has slowed down again, but I will be doing more 50/50 soon to speed it up. I wish I knew how much I would love being a plant based vegan long ago then I would have never been 388 pounds! 🤣Aww your daughter asking for cookies sounds like my daughter! I love this video! It is so special to share this with everyone so they can make the changes too!😀❤️🌻

Your distinction between being vegan and going on a whole food plant-based diet is SO important to distinguish and what really tripped me up in the beginning. We were totally junk-food vegans for about 9 months. I thought we were doing great things (which in some ways we were) but I didn't really feel all the health benefits that I read about and heard other vegans talk about until I started following a whole food plant-based diet. Wonderful channels like yours are so vital and I wish I had known about this life style years ago so thank you for putting this out there for others! As always, I love your videos and approach to life and this lifestyle and I wish we lived closer so we could be real friends, lol!

Thank you so much ❤️ yes I really wanted to touch upon the difference. When I first went vegan I was soooo confused as to why I was gaining weight and not feeling better and it was because I too was eating junk.

It definitely sucks looking for spots that are vegan at first but, when you start exploring different plant based, whole food recipes you begin to enjoy cooking at home. When we travel, its fun finding vegan spots to try. Great point > Don't over think it! 😊

I love that you say “y’all”! Lol. Tried your pasta salad recipe with Hungry Vegan Mama dressing. It was excellent! I’m a new subscriber and more of a pescatarian but really appreciate all your tips, tricks, advice especially weight loss secrets. I’m down 5 pandemic pounds eating some of your recipes and Malin’s as well as intermittent fasting. I think for me the biggest struggle with eating healthy and trying to lose weight is boring food. Thankfully I love to cook and thanks to the internet I get inspiration for a good variety of meals!!😁♥️

I like that you specify going to a plant-based doctor if you’re having excessive issues. It really bothers me when someone has issues with this diet for whatever reason and they go to their doctor and their doctor tells them they “need” to start eating animal based foods again for their health. I’d rather work with someone that can troubleshoot any problems I might encounter. Chances are you only need to make small changes to get yourself back to feeling your best.

Great content very positive and good tips. I liked the video . I hope you keep up the good work we all need to see plant based is truly healthier. I'm right in the middle of reversing high blood pressure and diabetes lost 60 pounds in few months blood pressure down 15 to 20 on both sides remarkable. I switched over cold turkey as my kidney function 20 points in short time. This is serious stuff this is our life. I regret not doing this 20 yrs ago. I could have avoided many hospital visits and suffering being so overweight and unhealthy. I commend you for being so kind on people but honestly some people need it straight before its to late. Till the next one.

Tia, this was an awesome video. When I first started looking at this lifestyle it was so confusing. It took me a Hugh amount of time to sift through all the approaches. Vegan before 6, WFPB but includes animal, vegan but junky, vegan but, please greese relief ( coconut cream, an avocado per day, nuts by the half cup portion, nut butter on everything, Tahiti too and topped with seeds plus oil. OMGosh) I was post op for breast cancer and didn't want it back. It took me a while to find the WFPB vegan way of eating and then to find practioners that kept it simple. Simple is so important when making the change. Thanks I know this will help others and it's always good to hear the truth again and again. B

Just got your printed book; so excited! Yay, it’s rainy here in GA...so a perfect day to curl up and read! I can’t find the video where you make lentil marinara and put it on toast, but I did that today. Lentils are intense so I tried something I saw my roommate from college do... she added mustard to her spaghetti. It’s perfect for cutting that earthy lentil flavor. It’s a weird hack, but it’s delicious. Just FYI
Thanks so much for your motivating content!!!!

Thank you Tia for another great video! ❤️ Excellent tips. We have to be open to new information for keeping on track. Gas is a normal part of digestion no matter what we eat. After transitioning from a diet with less fiber to one with more fiber we experience more bloating but it will pass. Many people wonder what to replace the meat with. With plants, of course. But if you eat a lot of meat before, some vegan meat can be a good compromise as a substitute but not for too long. As you pointed out, the simplicity and prepping are the keys to success. I was deficient in vitamin B12 even when I was eating meat because I was not absorbing it well so it is essential to talk to your doctor. Some deficiencies give symptoms which are not related to swiching to a wfpbno but we can easily attribute it to this way of eating. Yes, certainly it is an exciting journey. 😊

    • @HealthyVeganMama
      @HealthyVeganMama  3 роки тому

This is great info thank you for the comment. It’s especially helpful about the b12. So many people are deficient who eat meat and they have no idea.

Great video! I’ve been WFPB for a number of years. I over complicated things so much in the beginning. I must have at least 20 plant based cookbooks. Right now, all I need is a couple of sauces, and I can use those to mix and match just about anything to my tummys satisfaction. Every once in a while I’ll find a recipe I like and I have a recipe organizer app (Paprika) to keep things neatly organized.

My oldest daughter has transitioned to full plant based, though my husband and three other kids do three nights of plant based dinners which is awesome! I've noticed over the passed (almost) year that they've really stepped up their snacking habits on fresh fruits and veggies which is a huge mom win!! This is not my first rodeo to a HFPB vegan lifestyle. I did this 3 yrs ago for about six months and then failed miserably after spending 5 days in Disney World (zero healthy options and no way to cook). Once home, I just went back to my old unhealthy ways. It was easier I suppose. After a yr of being on 13 supplements for a leaky gut, I am back at it again. The most frustrating part of my health journey is that I am a Certified Health Coaching know better. UGH...... What is different and more sustainable this time is following The Starch Solution- its been a LIFE SAVER!!!! Thanks for all of your videos, Tia. They have all been extremely helpful. Nice video Tia! I just want to ad that gas and bloating can also be IBS and sensitivity to FODMAPs. Yes, it is normal for your gut to react when transition to a new diet with more fiber. But bad smelling farts are not a sign of a perfectly good diet and is nothing that you need to live with for the rest of your life. After 4 years of being vegan I developed a lot of stomach pain and IBS symptoms even though I was eating just fine a healthy diet and had been for years. My problem needed professional help to handle. Your symptoms is your body responds to something, don’t just ignore it!
If the problems with an upset stomach don’t go away I would highly recommend to contact a certified or registered dietitian.

Yes there could definitely be an underlining issues. That’s why I made sure to mention talk with a plant based doctor if there is pain that doesn’t go away. Great advice, thanks

I have a legume intolerance. Been WFPB for 9yrs, and gas seemed to be getting worse over time (66yr old). The weird thing is I’ve never felt bloated, or had any pain...just gas. I’m great now replacing the legumes with more starch and grains. FWIW, I have a live in dietician who has her masters, and I’m a retired CVICU nurse. I’ve tried everything under the sun. I might seek out a GI doc and/or GI mapping. So what is FODMAPs? Never heard of that one. I haven’t totally given up on legumes. Just taking a break.

I understand. Keep everyone’s meals very simple and that should make things easier. What would happen if you stopped buying animal products and only cooked plant based meals all week. Maybe on the weekends they could eat meat and dairy as a compromise. I did that fir a while with my family and before I knew it the weekends turned into plant based too.

What I do is make my meal their side dish. For instance, I'll make myself potatoes and broccoli which will be my husband and children's side dish to say chicken or whatever. And I always add lots of good stuff to my dish -- "cheese" sauce, etc.

So, for my family, I had a conversation with my hubby, when we are at family's, friend's or in a restaurant, they eat what they want. And I mean what they want, lobster, steak, milkshake, whatever. But at home, momma is the one that gardens, meal plans, shops, stores and prepares all meals we eat in this house. So my hubs is all on board (his stipulation was food tastes good and we don't eat the same thing over and over and over)

I’m interested in finding out about what it’s like to transition to a vegan lifestyle and learn more about the book, The Starch Solution. There are a few channels here about vegan lifestyle and this book so I’ve subscribed to them and also to the channel of the book’s author. I’ll be looking at all of your previous videos and the videos of the other people that I’ve subscribed to about this book and vegan lifestyle. My primary reason for learning about vegan lifestyle and this book is to lose weight and be healthier. I’ll be watching your videos and other peoples videos about the book and the vegan lifestyle from now on. I’ll enjoy your videos and look forward to each new video that you do.

Funny I was on Pinterest, later I was at Walmart and was going to pick up some poblanos for a recipe I seen, I put them down and said this is crazy that I would get all these ingredients to make this so I didn't. I put the peppers back, keeping it simple makes this way of eating easy.

I’ve been vegan for many years but unfortunately I eat a lot of coconut oil, olive oil, cakes, vegan sausages and meat, nut cheeses, french fries, etc. After 60 I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, insuline resistence, and gradually put on a lot of weight. Not until I stumbled upon whole food plant based no oil concepts that I was able to understand that being vegan, though great for the animals was not so great for my health. I’m still a vegan but I started to eat only whole, natural and unprocessed foods and all my health issues disappeared in some months. I had also to pay attention to supplements. I found out that my Vitamin D levels were very low. It was a consequance of living in Scandinavia and not taking the right supplements. With this way of eating I become also aware of my needs. I became a healthy vegan. What it’s optimal for us, it’s also good for the animals and for our planet. That’s why the information and inspiration from your channel can help a lot of people not only to find their reason for eating this way but also to understand how to think about food, how to cook and eat the meals which will restore one’s health. Education helps us to find our way much sooner. For me it took a long time but it doesn’t need to be that way. Thank you Tia and keep up the good work. ❤️

The way that I first went vegetarian was to give up red meat for 6 months and then poultry the next 6 month. By the end of that year, I only had fish/seafood and dairy products. So for the next 6 months, I stopped eating fish/seafood. I never ate much of that anyway so it was not hard to give up. So after 18 months I was down to just dairy products. I was 40 years old when I made the decision to become vegetarian. Ate age 55, I became vegan. It really wasn't heard because during my journey I was constantly picking up recipes and ideas for meals, and rethinking how to eat. I've never felt deprived. Now, at age 60, I am vegan, 50% raw vegan. I live in a cold climate so I eat cooked food mainly in winter. I feel so much better eating vegan and I feel better when I look at animals because I see them as fellow creatures enjoying the world with me rather than as food. I also made the transition because I spent 20+ years as a caregiver to my family who passed from high blood pressure, heart disease, strokes, etc., and were medicated for years prior to passing. They all ate the Standard American Diet and I did too. But I'm glad I changed.

@@Lauren-vd4qe The only dairy I ate with any frequency was cheese but the main purpose of going vegetarian is to stop eating meat/animal flesh. Vegetarian diets still permit dairy since dairy does not involve killing animals. So with either veganism or vegetarianism, the focus is not just on what is harmful to humans but also what is harmful to animals.

I feel the need to point out that it is better to eat before going to a restaurant, not to bring your food into a restaurant. This is because restaurants have strict health codes that they need to follow and they can get in serious trouble if people are eating outside food in their restaurant and they get reported.
