@@frankfrank7921 I heard way back when Liberace was still alive he had a lawsuit against Rolls Royce for false advertising. They told him “it’ll be big enough to get 8 in the back seat”.
My mom loved Merv's show, and had a copy of his autobiography at home. One day I'm looking through the picture section in the middle, and there was a picture of Merv and Henry Fonda showing off the linings of their jackets.
I got that same book, in new condition AND with Merv's autograph in it, about three years ago, and it only cost me $10. I also got Walter Cronkite's autographed book for the same price. People have no sense of history and what big stars these guys were.
The absolute worst, most boring yet awesome show ever. SO cheesy, SO indulgent...like some weird rich uncle who loved sprawling marble for his “parlor” (not living room) that he’d love to show off and invite people all while self-satisfied with the notion that he was such a delightful entertainer. What a real piece of work.
I'll take this parody's word for it. I feel like if I watched the real deal, I'll get flashbacks to this sketch and the one where Merv Griffin somehow goes back to the 1960s and lives through all the turbulent events associated with that decade.
This is absolutely hilarious, even though I only watched Merv a little casually at the end of his run, mainly in the Summer and IF he had an interesting guest, just to bide time until another show I wanted to watch was on at 1:00 AM. For those who were more familiar with Merv, I'm jealous!!!! Comments below mention that the portion where Merv and Liberace admire Lou Ferrigno's muscles has been edited out of the DVDs! If that's the case, I'm perpelexed! I mean, Christ, it certainly isn't out of character of Liberace to be fawning over a guy like that but without being overly suggestive or aggressive As far as Merv (who was evasive on his sexual preferences and kept it private) goes, this part of the skit really speaks to how open he was as a person. After all, he admires Loni Anderson's breasts, too. It's insight into how Merv just says these things that are tangental and off-the-cuff to him, but off-the-wall on a complete tangent to others. It comes off more as an observation by Rick Moranis as to Merv's peculiar curiosity rather than a dig at his sexuality. Yeah, it personal makes me a bit uncomfortable watching them ogle and handle Lou, but that is the point. That's Merv and Liberace! Haha! I miss Merv (or more Rick Moranis' Merv). The crazy belly laugh, the gravelly "ooh", and the protruding ass is epic best! Stay safe, Rick Moranis!
I remember ages ago on some talk show , Liberace was on and then some young male teen heartthrob was the next guest. This was when video games were first the rage , and every kid was hanging out at the arcade. The young man was saying that was his hobby hanging at the arcade with his friends . Liberace was telling him he loved video games too and had about a dozen of them in his den . He even invited him over to play them . The kid was like WOW , that would be cool. Even back then it felt creepy watching it .😱

On Merv's headstone,
"I will not be right back after this message."
Moranis' Merv Griffin and Thomas' Liberace were always on point.
The long-forgotten Tony Rosato as Lou Ferrigno.
Moranis has Merv down. Love the stance profile...dead on!...we’ll be right back...
When Liberace sees Yasir Arafat hilarious
I laughed a little too hard at how he looks at the camera

Liberace did give Lou a sparkly T-shirt with the word INCREDIBLE when they were guests on the Mike Douglas show in Las Vegas.
