As a kid in the 70’s getting to stay up late on Saturday’s to watch SNL (when it was actually funny) followed by the even funnier SCTV was the greatest night of the week!
I loved it then and still do now. Had all these recorded on beta Max. Hadn't seen these for years and years.... Still I get that same old feeling. Frick'en Hilarious !!!
Brilliant as usual! John's Orson Welles was always funny and spot-on. Dave Thomas could do the most obscure impressions (Bob Hope, Liberace, etc.) and actually improve in character.
I didn’t know the Orson Welles out-take audio (later skewered on Pinky & the Brain) was a well-enough known thing at this point to be parodied on a tv show, but it’s brilliant here with John Candy. Just seeing some of these SCTV sketches for the first time. Thanks for posting!!
With Liberace already having a history of suing organizations that implied he was gay, I would love here the SCTV legal roundtable over the first scene. 😬
Never heard of this SCTV and was only watching this because it popped up in my recommendations. When was this show on air? I'm assuming it eventually got cancelled because it couldn't compete with SNL.
It was during SNL but much funnier bc it was not druggie comedy. I dont remember what tv station here in US but they acted like they "Canadian" took over the air waves. And you are right, Eddie the Murph came on the scene but all those SCtv stars became movie stars.
Dave Thomas as Liberace is unmatched. His Bob Hope has never been matched.
Dear lord, that was brilliant. Every second was a delight. I need the series on dvd with commentary.
As a kid in the 70’s getting to stay up late on Saturday’s to watch SNL (when it was actually funny) followed by the even funnier SCTV was the greatest night of the week!
You're right. SNL is just horrible.
Didnt SNL borrow from SCTV for their casting in the first ten seasons?
Just stop. SNL is funny every week. You're not cool because you say it's not.
I love John Candy (Orson Welles) casually grabbing the turkey as he storms, er... lumbers, from the set. Perfection.
🤣👍
"You!! It;s him!! Stop moving!!"🤣🤣
I love how Liberace {Dave Thomas} gets scared and runs away when the singing of Ethel Merman {Andrea Martin} makes the tree decorations explode!
I DIED when I saw Ethel 😭😂😂❤️❤️❤️❤️
I miss the 70s and 80s. SCTV was great, funny TV!! I miss John Candy and so many others of the cast of SCTV!!! Many became long lasting movie stars!
The world needs, but sadly will never have, an Ethel Merman Christmas Album. Just imagine the 12 days of Christmas.
Dang Dave makes a PERFECT Liberace..lol
Got to give up to Rick Moranis as Elton John also.
I miss SCTV! Most of their skits were hilarious!
Snl stole half wits lol
And the best talent in show business !
John Candy as Orson Welles. LOL and RIP to both. And RIP to Lee as well. all gone too soon.
Great shoutout to the wardrobe department of SCTV, so incredibly creative, and I am sure that they did not have an unlimited budget.
Bev had a cheap budget and did wonders on makeup for the SCTV crew
Santa cracking the whip is the chef's kiss.
Great Elton Moranis!!!!
John Candy's impression of Orson Wells pays homage to the commercial for wine where OW was stinking drunk and kept messing up his lines.
Sorry Lee!!
Not so much the one where he's drunk...but the one about the Frozen Peas.
"AHHHHH! the French!"
Liberace whipped by Freddie Mercury in a dueling piano contest with Elton John gives new meaning to "gay happy meetings when friends come to call."
2022 Christmas season once again. Just found this old SCTV Skit. Laughing my 66 year old azz off. Such a talented group.
Same here!♥️♥️♥️🎄🎄🎄🎄
SCTV was just amazing.
Just found this: I’m laughing hysterically!! What a lift to my day!
Me too. I just found this...very clever! ❤
I just found it today and it is hilarious. Definitely a great lift to my day!
Not your average TV Christmas special.
Sctv keeps on giving! Lots of magic i missed 30 plus years ago!
john candy as orson welles is class...🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
SCTV... awesome tv that we watched from Detroit!
Omg I love this so much! I have the SCTV Christmas dvd set.
Every time I hear that riff from that Christmas song I also hear the whip in my mind!
SCTV was terrific! 'Orson Welles' took the whole turkey!!!
Bob & Doug duel of pianos
Lee and elton dueling it off . Hilarious!🤣
Piano duel. Too funny
Deep, and crisp, and crunchy. Did i say crunchy?
Love this show
I loved it then and still do now. Had all these recorded on beta Max. Hadn't seen these for years and years.... Still I get that same old feeling.
Frick'en Hilarious !!!
Best Christmas special ever!
The way it used to, and should still be.
John Candy 💖 #Legendary
Brilliant as usual! John's Orson Welles was always funny and spot-on. Dave Thomas could do the most obscure impressions (Bob Hope, Liberace, etc.) and actually improve in character.
Funnier than anything that SNL has produced in the last 20 years.
Every time I hear that song, I think of this skit😂🤣
Elton John spot on!
I didn’t know the Orson Welles out-take audio (later skewered on Pinky & the Brain) was a well-enough known thing at this point to be parodied on a tv show, but it’s brilliant here with John Candy.

Nice tribute to Orson’s infamous Frozen Peas voice-over session debacle.
"I thought there was a slight gonk..." classic stuff.
Andrea Martin! talent
Green peaness.
Was that the same voice-over session that was parodyed in that PINKY & THE BRAIN episode?
@@twentyfiveyears5010 and what is a "gonk", if you don't mind me asking?
A few seconds into this clip and I knew that, somehow, Orson Welles was eventually going to appear.
Wow! Those impersonations were spot on!
Wow, Loved this, Thank you..
Elton’s piano style of the 70s pitch perfect!
Voice is perfect 👌
Best show of all time, imo.
Candy's Orson welles is killer. They were operating on a different level.
Great John!
This is real comedy.
Brilliant.
I never knew Freddy Mercury made an appearance on SCTV.
The funniest thing that's ever been on television.
Simply the best ❤️
Sometimes the classic SNL was just the enjoyable stopgap that helped me stay up late for the even funnier show...SCTV.
That I would watch. Elton upstaging Liberace etc.
With Liberace already having a history of suing organizations that implied he was gay, I would love here the SCTV legal roundtable over the first scene. 😬
Brilliant!!!!
Rick moranis in his prime
So much funnier than snl any day.
everyone knows SCTV was funnier , just the cokeheads in New York would never admit it.
Now this is comedy!!!!
Omg 🤣🤣🤣🤣🥰🥰🥰🥰 love it
Check out John Candy doing Roy’s food repair-genius.
Hilarious!!
Wow, Bob and Doug McKenzie on dueling pianos! Which hoser won, eh?
ding---fries are done!
😆😅🤣 love them all
comedy gold
Brilliant
Oh hahahaha. The dub over. Hahahahaha
He was moving!!…John Candy…lol
LAUGHING MY F'N FACE OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Freddy Mercury did a surprise appearance!!!!!!!
🤣🤣👍Vintage SCTV!
LmFATao!!!!! So freakin funny!!!
Hold on, you mean that Liberace and Elton were gay?
They don't look too happy here!
@@RideAcrossTheRiver Thanks for the laugh, haha.
@@Margatroid Ethel will really break your balls.
No.
Liberace was, Elton still is
Hilarious
Has anybody ever seen Liberace and Gary Glitter in the same room? 🤔
turkey grab!!
Is Mr. Slave the guy standing behind Liberace in this video?
When he came out I was shocked……. Not!
everyone knew he was gay... it wasn't a secret just un-spoken , classier times...
This was funny.
My tax dollars paid for this...Money well spent...
Rick Moranis?
🙂
holy----fk

sctv was a highly successful canadian show late70s-early/mid80s, originally done in toronto and then in edmonton
my boweI movements can compete with snI
This was so much funnier than SNL. It was a half hour show and it came on at 1 AM. My kids and I watched it every Saturday night.
Not. It went for years. And launched a multitude of careers. SNL pales by comparison.
Who played liberace?
Dave Thomas
Legendary Dave Thomas!
gary glitter
HAHHAHAHHAHAH LOL
Canadians B Funny
TV used to be so much more entertaining and innovative. Now it's all lame political jokes.
Liberace and Elton John, both great pianists, but they sucked on the organ.
😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂
You know they will have you arrested for non support of their communities.
What are you talking about? This is decades old comedy.
I don't care much for SCTV but this was hilarious
A back-handed compliment...why bother?
Stop this mockery else u will be very very very sorry
Lolz
This is rubbish an insult to Liberace anyone who has seen him in person would agree with me
lol
Liberace was a grooming pervert. Talented pianist but a deviant.
Hilarious!
