The Miata has been on the back burner for quite a bit, and I’m really excited to get the car out and break in the new engine. It’s a full piston and rod built VVTI block with a 99 head and cams. We opted for a twin scroll short runner, manifold, and Evo 10 turbo and we upgraded the intake manifold to skunk2 for power up top. The engine pulls all the way to 8000 RPM and I’m really excited to share some content of us running up the mountain. It’s really rare to get a clean run and we made it almost all the way with no traffic POV style. - Авто та транспорт

The Dragon is like 30 mins away from where I live, man the Smokey Mountains really do have some great driving roads! 💯💪🏽💯

The tail of the dragon is probably the most gnarly road in America.
The first time I went there I was with a group of motorcycles, (cruisers, not crotch rocket) and the bolt that held my foot peg was completely ground off, and the foot peg was ground down too.
The people there know to pull off out of the way from those that are trying to rip.

@@cozza819 there's an assetto one. I got it off reddit, it starts at the resort and stops after the overlook around 8:30 in the video. It's accurate as far as mapping the turns could get but you don't get the same sense of elevation and banking as you do IRL. After going their IRL I still love to hop on that track every sim session.
@@toasty5790 Great thank you, i'll do some looking around to find it. You're exactly right, elevation is the one thing the sim can never account for in feeling. Unless you have some crazy hydraulic set up. I mainly lap the Nurburgring. I want to make it there sometime soon, I know the one thing I'll never been prepared for is the real FOV and elevation.

Love the Miata content. Just built a 1750 pound 2" roof chopped supercharged miata for drifting,. I participated in some of the first events here in America in a 240sx (that still lives on with Rapper Dan) with all the OG pro drifters but then quit to go back spec miata racing.
How’s the spec Miata scene? I live in the PNW and surface level searching shows me NOTHING around. Super interested in spec racing.
@@mattbenson6698 Its huge in the SCCA on the east coast, especially at my home track Summit Point Raceway. I've been racing in it for over 20 years with 72 miatas in one our races at VIR in 2017 which was crazy. Its just become to expensive so back to drifting.

Coming back for Miata’s at the Gap in August? Usually a great time. Turbo seems so calm in comparison to my high compression bp4w build. You have power literally everywhere. I’m stuck fighting between 2-3, 5speed w/ a 4.3. 150whp/125tq. If you compare side by side, that thing is a Cadillac!
This is a 3.63 car. Yea the power comes on at 2800 and goes to 8000

Make sure you check your valve lash every 10 hours of runtime revving a vvt motor that high. My 8500 rpm vvt motor would tighten up the lash from max recommended tolerance to under min in that time on the intake, exhaust didn’t change nearly as much.
It’s a vvti bottom end and 99 head.

Damn, wish I didn't sell my turbo NA6, would love to have compared them here with you. We had the identical build when I originally did the turbo 1.8
My last run on the dragon before I sold it was at 250hp flat out.
Then it became a 400hp pain in my butt which I ended up selling due to blowing transmissions every 2 weeks.
I accidentally went down (North to south) on this road during a roadtrip in my Jeep. Imagine my surprise, the turns never stopped coming 😂

Gotta tryout highway 1 and highway 20 in cali, some insane mountain driving roads. Its the unknown smokies lol. I live in michigan but ive been out in cali for work and some if the roads out here are incredible

Always enjoyed the "no bov gonna kill your turbo" stuff. Good way to know who knows the difference in off throttle "surge" and on throttle surge. Never ran one and still have the same gt28 turbo on a sr20 I've had since 04. Most of the off throttle surge is just the air kicking through the blades and dosn't effect the wheel's rotation or speed at all. Most people by now I think have figured it out though. If anyone reading this didn't, well now you know. :D

This thing is so sick! Question for you sir denofa. Just picked up an NB to slide. Most of the angle kits I'm seeing require you to remove the front sway bar. What spring rate would you recommend if that's what I end up doing? On BC BRs
You can put a bar back on it, just need to modify.
But for drifting you’d want something like 14 up front.

There are police shooting radar at a few places sometimes. But the speed limit is fast enough that all the turns are fun. That’s why I’m not flooring it on the straights

like how do you even know these things exist but you dont know what causes turbo flutter just makes no sense to me

the first time we visited the tail of the dragon we were in my friends moms Toyota highlander which was old, like 09. the traction limit was so easy to find because of the big tires and weight, that we would be staying off the mustard while the tires were crying for most of the turn. gave a wrx a run for its money for whatever that worth. anyway sick vid

Mate, that's not an issue on the boost levels or the turbo this is running and also, who cares. My guy is a pro drifter, I think he knows the ins and outs of cars.
@@LuckyFruitRacing What boost level do you think it's an issue? there are people running 70+ psi without a blow off valve.
@@DriftNick it's an issue at a level when the compressor goes into surge, so how long is a piece of string... Sometimes the piece of string doesn't exist

@@DriftNick not quite sure why you're arguing with me here.... If the compressor is repeatedly driven into excessive surge it can damage the turbo. This turbo wouldn't be seeing excessive surge so it's a non-issue. If you had a small-frame journal bearing turbo from the 90s and pushed it well beyond its factory boost, you would likely be causing damage to it.
