I love how almost all car reviewers are loving the roads through untouched nature, the smell of trees and the sound of bees.. all the nice things that are actually harder and harder to find anywhere.... because of cars and the impact car centric planning all over the world has had.
Literally bought my (first?) Miata yesterday, a NB, and now Hagerty comes up with this vid. Let's just say I literally want to clock out of work and drive with the roof down right now haha Amazing stuff as always, Catchpole is my fave
Yeah that’s a very strange bracketed and question marked word. Regardless of that you need to get on the blower to BBR to order this kit! This my friend is the bargain of the fookin century!!
Looks like a ton of fun. I’m not supercharged, but I’ve owned a ND2 club for around 6 months now and can say it’s probably one of my most favorite and fun cars that I’ve owned. So much so, that I’ve been debating buying a 2nd in the RF hard top. Mazda nailed it with the NDs!! I’ll bet this SC really takes it up a notch!
The Elan Valley is stunning, and that section that eventually takes you to Cwmystwyth and Devils Bridge, a simply outstanding driving experience. Even better, turn right in Devils Bridge and follow the even more majestic road towards Llangurig. What better car to do it in, than a lovely little MX5
He didn't mention the details; the suspension upgrade is the same I had fitted on my MX-5 nd by BBR last month. - Koni Sport adjustable dampers, but revalved by BBR - BBR spec progressive lowering springs - BBR specific geometry setup I've done 300 miles since the upgrade, giving the new components time to settle and bed in... Thoughts... - just one negative; the low speed ride and bump absorption is a bit firm, perhaps this will settle better as it all beds in more, though this is still the case after 300 miles. HOWEVER, I still have yet to try backing off the damper setting from the current medium, I hope and think setting it to soft will iron out this gripe - but in all other ways; mid and high speed ride/absorption, cornering flatness, initial and mid-corner turn-in response and holding are just greatly improved. In particular I'm floored by how it behaves when imputing more lock to tighten the line still further mid-corner when pushing on; it just obeys and tucks right in beautifully, where before the rear tyres would scrub and push wide ---------- Assuming my upcoming damper adjustment to softer gets rid of that firmness without compromising the positives, I think this is a great upgrade. As it stands, the firm low speed ride is tolerable and the overall net improvements are fantastic.
I got a header, exhaust, E85 ND1 - gotta say, it is a blast to drive in the canyons and track but definitely needs even more power than my modifications give it. Supercharger might be the next step..
@binskee677 nothing is wrong with the 86, but the miata is more fun to drive, and it's made to a higher quality (suspension is aluminum double wishbone vs. steel McPherson strut, interior is a nicer place to be) I will say I prefer the steering feel of the 86, but every time I see a mx5 I want another go in one
@@StudlySoldier ah okey understandable, also the open top driving is awesome, you should maybe try an S2000 if you get the chance too. I wouldn't say it's "better" than the Miata but the sam recipe but a very different car.
If anyone is wondering, the song (in the beginning) is 'Breakdown' by Droid Bishop from the album, 'Into the Abstract'. The whole album is great and is definitely worth listening to. The car, and presentation are truly top notch as well. Really can't get any better than this!
Right now, my attainable dream car is an NC2 (MY '09-12) Miata PRHT with upgraded wheels, tires, suspension, and brakes, followed by intake, exhaust, and finally a supercharger. The 3rd generation is me enough to have modem features and an available hard top but old enough to be affordable. Those specific models years have the best looks IMO. The order of upgrades is simply correct AFAIK. I prefer a blower over a turbo for the more predictable throttle response. I rented an EcoBoost Ford, and I figured out that I don't like turbo lag.
i just bought a 2018 RF.. what a fun car. going to be turboed in 6 months. first time i ever drove a miata. its beautiful too already got a compliment at the gas station, i got it tonight lol. I drove a 2015 STI after this and it had an absolutely awful shifter loose and notchy the mazda felt brand new
Last year I got a fantastic MX-5 2.0 ND Sport Soft Top, fantastic car, nice design, drives great especially with some modifications like Ohlins R&T Manifolds map Exhaust filter Anti bump steer kit Anti-roll tensioning adjustment rods Motorsport (End Links), the car consumes little fuel and is fun to drive with a volumetric compressor or the turbo would be even faster but it would increase the price by at least 5k and 45k for a Miata are starting to be a lot of money for a non-luxurious Spyder, the MX-5 ND is fun even with 160\180 hp. I had one before Lotus Elise S I kept it for 4 years, a wonderful car but the Miata 2.0 ND doesn't make me regret it too much, among other things, I have more fun with the Miata because I can drift much more easily while with the Lotus Elise S I was afraid of do damage since it's all super expensive
What a wonderful Video! Thank you very much for the input and those beautiful landscape shots. They're the same thoughts I got the last 2 years. I bought a Opel Speedster 2.2 with a after market exhaust and open Air filter. Good loudness, some rare real small crackles when you lift the gas at certain revs AND "low-ish" power compared to other sport's cars. But the beautiful thing is: you can rev it out legally on normal streets. In the Forests, on great back roads. It's just so much fun. It seems to be louder than it is fast, but that's what makes it so great - because it feels also faster than you really are. The pure feeling through the suspension... Ah, now I want to drive again. But it's raining😮💨 What I wanted to say: numbers doesn't matter. The feeling, driving the car, matters! Even 7s to 100kph can feel so orgasmic just by the sound and the rattles throughout the chassis. That's what I like about magazines like Hagerty and Carfection. They teach you to not forget about the importance of the FEELING while driving. You don't have to drive a 400.000€ McLaren 720s. You can have even more FUN with a wayyyyy cheaper car - I had more fun with a 22.500€ car. Just be open an explore your feeling while driving different cars. Have a great time!
As a weekend canyon carver in Los Angeles, my Miata gets driven fairly quickly through the turns . Outside of modifying the suspension and fitting the car with wider wheels and stickier tires you really don’t need more power though it can help but could get you trouble too. The MX5 is more about balance and agility.
I have a gt86 and a fiesta ST Mk8.5, so I know that happines of driving is not driving super fast mega expansive cars....Every time i push the button and start the car a smile on my face appear....😃
Drove a 1.5 ND yesterday and got it to the Schwarzwaldstraße here in Germany. Was my first sports car experience (if it counts)... I hate how much I loved it. It was the most fun with a hobby of mine since I bought my first wheel to play Assetto on... Wonderful car. And that gear change! The engine loved getting thrashed... The steering kinda dead, yeah, but I really didnt mind that at all... Yesterday showed me that I need a car like this... The sims are fun but... Cant compare it to the real thing.
The Ohlins R&Ts are excellent on the Miata. A friend has an ND with that setup and I have had the honor of driving it before and after the change. Excellent upgrade, as Ohlins normally are.
Great content. Fantastic cinematography. Massively enjoyed this. Thanks

The only "driving" mod I've done to my 2015 1.5l has been lowering the driver's seat. I've thought about making changes sometimes, and then not. It just works.
I own a ND1, since a few years ago. When i bought it, i didnt have a car, and i thought in selling it in a few years (about now) because they dont really depreciate. However i decided to keep it forever, the feeling of driving in a twisty road, with roof open is great, i dont need to go on extreme speeds to enjoy playing with it, it looks fantastic, and its really cheap to maintain. The only problem is if will be able to get in and out when i age, but hell, i love the car, and i dont need more power

I love how almost all car reviewers are loving the roads through untouched nature, the smell of trees and the sound of bees.. all the nice things that are actually harder and harder to find anywhere.... because of cars and the impact car centric planning all over the world has had.
I love , love driving my convertible for the very reasons you mention!
Literally bought my (first?) Miata yesterday, a NB, and now Hagerty comes up with this vid. Let's just say I literally want to clock out of work and drive with the roof down right now haha
Amazing stuff as always, Catchpole is my fave
Are you asking us if it's your first Miata?
How could you not know whether it was your first or not...?
@@squidikkamight mean the first of many to come
Yeah that’s a very strange bracketed and question marked word.
Nd filter joke is appreciated 😂
I’d love to listen to Henry drive and talk about an S2000 like this.
The s2000 would have a nicer engine tone and less heating issues. probably cheaper too, but it would be slower. 0-60 in 6.1 seconds
I think the S2000 sounds worse. More mechanical, angrier. Sort of grating.
@@peterlewis3540 Thank you so much for calling out the location and surrounds.
He didn't mention the details; the suspension upgrade is the same I had fitted on my MX-5 nd by BBR last month.
- Koni Sport adjustable dampers, but revalved by BBR
- BBR spec progressive lowering springs
- BBR specific geometry setup
I've done 300 miles since the upgrade, giving the new components time to settle and bed in...
Thoughts...
- just one negative; the low speed ride and bump absorption is a bit firm, perhaps this will settle better as it all beds in more, though this is still the case after 300 miles. HOWEVER, I still have yet to try backing off the damper setting from the current medium, I hope and think setting it to soft will iron out this gripe
- but in all other ways; mid and high speed ride/absorption, cornering flatness, initial and mid-corner turn-in response and holding are just greatly improved. In particular I'm floored by how it behaves when imputing more lock to tighten the line still further mid-corner when pushing on; it just obeys and tucks right in beautifully, where before the rear tyres would scrub and push wide
----------
Assuming my upcoming damper adjustment to softer gets rid of that firmness without compromising the positives, I think this is a great upgrade. As it stands, the firm low speed ride is tolerable and the overall net improvements are fantastic.
I have to admit it’s an awesome kit. Using the BBR forged internals and the BBR Stage 1 Turbo, we made 290 whp and 277 wtq. It’s an animal.
Great video, nice to have some attention on smaller, less powerful cars.
Also, where is this road?! 😍
Elan valley in Wales!
@@davidphasey5438 I was sure if it’s Elan or Llyn Brianne
I got a header, exhaust, E85 ND1 - gotta say, it is a blast to drive in the canyons and track but definitely needs even more power than my modifications give it. Supercharger might be the next step..
I miss my ND. Replaced it with a GR86 after someone hit me. Should have gotten a second miata
Why? Whats wrong with the GR86?
@binskee677 nothing is wrong with the 86, but the miata is more fun to drive, and it's made to a higher quality (suspension is aluminum double wishbone vs. steel McPherson strut, interior is a nicer place to be)
I will say I prefer the steering feel of the 86, but every time I see a mx5 I want another go in one
Trade it in, there will be plenty of approved used ND's at Mazda dealers. Do it.
Thanks Mrs. Bishop
5:21 I believe the correct plural for pound-foot is pound-feet, as opposed to pounds-foot..
Thanks for the beautiful scenery. Makes me want to go drive my NC3 with a Cosworth Supercharger.
Superb video!
@Landon-si5xc but does he drive an MX-5?
That Hagerty Drivers Club segue was brilliant 🤣
As always loving the films you put out!
i just bought a 2018 RF.. what a fun car. going to be turboed in 6 months. first time i ever drove a miata. its beautiful too already got a compliment at the gas station, i got it tonight lol. I drove a 2015 STI after this and it had an absolutely awful shifter loose and notchy the mazda felt brand new
I’m picking up a stage 2 turbo nc tomorow morning and this video has just made me even more excited
I assure you that you will have the best time of your life! Greetings from a NC3 owner with Rotrex and nearly 300hp😊
Last year I got a fantastic MX-5 2.0 ND Sport Soft Top, fantastic car, nice design, drives great especially with some modifications like Ohlins R&T Manifolds map Exhaust filter Anti bump steer kit
Anti-roll tensioning adjustment rods Motorsport (End Links), the car consumes little fuel and is fun to drive with a volumetric compressor or the turbo would be even faster but it would increase the price by at least 5k and 45k for a Miata are starting to be a lot of money for a non-luxurious Spyder, the MX-5 ND is fun even with 160\180 hp. I had one before
Lotus Elise S I kept it for 4 years, a wonderful car but the Miata 2.0 ND doesn't make me regret it too much, among other things, I have more fun with the Miata because I can drift much more easily while with the Lotus Elise S I was afraid of do damage since it's all super expensive
Catchpole is one of the best!! 👍👍
Open-top cars are great; can confirm. Having owned a convertible Mustang GT and currently 986 Boxster owner, life is better with the lid off.
Brilliance. Everything. Well done!
I'm amazed Henry fits into this car! I am 6'1" and wasn't sure if I'd fit, but now I know. 😄
But it's raining😮💨
What I wanted to say: numbers doesn't matter.
Bro that filter delivery was MINT!!!! Love to see it
Good as always. Made my grim Friday enjoyable again. Thank you!
I have a gt86 and a fiesta ST Mk8.5, so I know that happines of driving is not driving super fast mega expansive cars....Every time i push the button and start the car a smile on my face appear....😃
If i was rich, henry would be my reason for spending and i would have so many cars. This guy puts magic in the drive.
@Landon-si5xc i already have a religion. But many thanks for your kindness.
If I didn’t have the A110, I’d have a BBR NC MX-5 with a built engine. Love what BBR do.
best car in the world..its simply brilliant,
Filmed really well and the right words are said. Perfect! Thank you!
It even looks like an S2000 now, at least in profile. Wonderful.
The ND filter line was nice.
Such a fun video - total mind candy, thank you!!
Lowering the seat is the best mod on this car
I own a ND1, since a few years ago. When i bought it, i didnt have a car, and i thought in selling it in a few years (about now) because they dont really depreciate. However i decided to keep it forever, the feeling of driving in a twisty road, with roof open is great, i dont need to go on extreme speeds to enjoy playing with it, it looks fantastic, and its really cheap to maintain. The only problem is if will be able to get in and out when i age, but hell, i love the car, and i dont need more power
There really is something extra about having the top down on a great road. It’s like you’re part of the world instead of just an observer traveling through it.
Thank you for making this!
Great informative video, well presented. Thanks.
I have a Supercharged MX5 ND1! It is fun and it is instant power!
2 things to appreciate here: Henry, and white wheels
I love my BBR, I cannot think of any car I'd prefer. For me it's perfection.
