I do love the super cheesy Resi clones like this and Carrier, the ultra-low budget nature of their production means that they lean into the cheese factor (out of necessity) and it's glorious.
This is the type of game that SOUNDS way more interesting than it ACTUALLY IS, but it's more likely Dungeon's excellent storytelling/script writing that's helping it along.
Just wanted to say been really hyped for the upload since the announcement. Your content is very much appreciated and I hope you blow up soon, still blows my mind you don’t have at least a couple hundred thousand subs given the level of quality

always found it easier to use tank controls for these games with static switching camera angles. Playing the RE1 remaster with "modern" controls had me pulling my hair out, switching back to previous angles or turning the wrong way and getting stuck at bad times.
Loved it! Video essays showcasing lesser known horror games are my new favorite thing, so glad I found your channel. Can't wait to see more! :) ( your Dead of the Brain video is one of my favorites btw!)
Thank you for the comment about Extermination. I remember watching my aunt's BF start that game but never knew the name of it. It has been lingering in th back of my mind since the early 2000s!
I have such a soft spot for this disaster. Although the channel has stopped uploading, Retsupurae did a hilarious riff of this game. My favorite actual fact is that NOBODY believes John about the monsters at first because it's April Fool's Day. That has to be some of the funniest shit I've ever heard. Fujiyama actually has a pretty interesting payoff! You find his corpse in his own Big Jim in the Connection Park while you're exploring underwater. Interacting with it tells you he probably got eaten to death by those annoying barracudas. I actually thought that was one of the more subtle and neat touches to the game. But oh my lord, the narm on this is so good, I love it. Agreed with you 100% on that. It's not an amazing game, but the voice acting (ESPECIALLY Dubois) sends me every time. Thanks for covering this, excellent job as always!
Just checked and Retsupurae uploaded a “Where Are They Now?” to let people know they’re alright. I know this comment is from a while ago but just a little reminder in case anyone was interested
Played through a year or so ago. I enjoyed it but it is not something I would return to. Watching this video is much more entertaining than actually playing it. You get to see the story and the real strengths without the subpar and tensionless gameplay. It makes it feel like it would have worked better as a movie.
4:03 RE2 never getting a Sega Saturn port is the reason why RESIDENT EVIL CODE: Veronica was made. Sega had asked Capcom for a port of RE2 on the Saturn: when they were told it wasn't feasible from a technical standpoint (the drop in quality would've been significant), Sega then asked for an exclusive RE game for their upcoming Dreamcast machine.
Why would the drop in quality be significant? Isn't the port of RE considered to be (one of) the definitive version of the first game, which was made to run on the same hardware as 2? Or Maybe I'm misrembering and the port is ass lol
@@MrAweeze The Saturn port of RE1 had brighter colors and certain textures were better, but the poly count was lower and the shading was terrible. RE2 was a major leap forward, taking full advantage of the PS1's architecture: it's very unlikely the Saturn could've managed that. Given that the game was also ported to the N64 and PC (and later to the DC and GC), it's not that Capcom was being precious with it or anything: had they been able to do it properly, they would've done it. EDIT: here's a direct comparison. At 6:48 you can see that the shading on the Saturn was nonexistent. RE2 had a lot more shading to simulate dynamic lighting. ua-cam.com/video/8M4p5QIyaD8/v-deo.html
Just to think, once they found out the common cold was a preventative measure, he could have just coughed all over everyone still alive! Mind you, I love the craziness here. Entertaining.

31:06 Every deep ocean documentary with footage of crushed styrofoam cups or aluminium cans exposed at depths flashed before my eyes. Aren't these fellas near the Mariana Trench?
The hilarious character names that dont make any sense is probably my favorite part. It would be like if we made a game with Japanese characters and they were called Sushi Toyota and Fuji Wasabi
SPOILERS!: I really like how it ends with you being the only survivor just like the original Alien movie as the only ending. Usually in horror games that center around a crew of people there's always a way to save some characters, if not everyone. I also liked how they had the love interest that you'd except to escape with, turn out to be the antagonist and origin of the infection. Really hyped for your Shadow Tower review. I love the King's Field games, so I'm interested to see what you have to say since I still haven't played these.
Always a joy watching your videos. I found your channel about two weeks ago and I have to say these early 3d adventure/action games go right up my alley.

TETSUO!!!!!! (Blob) …I remember wanting to check this game out when it launched, but the reviews in every magazine were pretty harsh on it, and I was pretty disappointed in the US Saturn library at the time. Years later, with fan translations and a ODE it’s probably my favorite system
Tank controls were the best solution for games with fixed camera angles imo. If the controls were relative to the camera instead of the character it would be easy to mix up your inputs when the character moves past a camera angle transition.
So, here's an interesting thing: the remake of the first Resident Evil in 2002 added an analog movement option that did exactly this, it moved the character in the direction relative to the camera. But when the transition happened, if you kept holding the analog to the same direction, the scene change would make the character keep moving in the direction they're facing. It was very clever in my opinion, although it takes a bit for us to get used to it, specially if you lean more into the classic tank controls.
only for horror games IMO. If the scares weren't directly tied in to the camera like those games there would be 0 problems. We've seen fixed camera angle games without this *quirk* since
@@vinny-zebu yeah I've played a couple of games with this control method and it feels clunkier to me... fixed camera angles are a thing of the past now though anyway so we probably won't need character-relative controls for any more 3rd-person games

"The Navy Seals will come and seal the Navy area"(paraphrasing) The game sounds like a good idea hastily executed. John probably had PTSD. Mookie reminds me of the mechanic's assistant in CB's space shuttle episode a bit. DuBois? Sounds French so give him a girly voice. Clancy Dawkins? Tom Clancy plus Richard Dawkins? Selfish gene monster? I wonder if the Japanese VA is also terrible.
Amazing video. Loved the touch about tank controls becoming second nature. Because even modern 3rd person games still have weird control issues with the changing camera angle

Deep Fear is one of the hidden gems that Sega ever made imo, it deserves more love and in need a remake
Just wanted to say been really hyped for the upload since the announcement. You are very quickly turning into one of my favorite channels on here
The editing the music in the transitions, just absolutely love the vibe of this channel.
Your content is very much appreciated and I hope you blow up soon, still blows my mind you don’t have at least a couple hundred thousand subs given the level of quality
15:38 a man covered in blood started to have convulsions and stuff
Mookie: OwO WHAT'S THIS?
The soundtrack for the game is awesome!
4:20 I knew things were dire at SEGA at that point, but damn, poor Sonic.
Dungeon Chill is like if Grim Beard tried REALLY HARD not to ramble and the games are trying their handelt to get him off Track. Respect for your Focus, man, love the Format.
I agree, Grim beard can be so irritating at times.
I had to stop watching him
@@adrianinha19 I love Grim & will follow his trains of thought wherever they go, including derailments. Grim's a treasure. Dungeon Chill is also excellent & does his thing, which I also love. Wow, this hits such a nostalgic itch… best era of gaming… I miss it very much
This game is in my backlog for years...alongside Carrier and Cold Fear
cold fear I remember, Carrier doesn't ring a bell though.
@@SA80TAGE Carrier is a weird Survival Horror on the Sega Dreamcast
Epilogue: Rambo the bulldog goes on to be adopted by CW Bailey and helps investigate a mannequin that happens to come to life in a department store.
14:04 If you use the 3D Control Pad you can move freely and not with tank controls. It handles much better but whenever the screen changes its to easy to accidently move back to the previous screen.
I need to get a 3D Control Pad again. I only have the regular Saturn controller. I was busting my thumb playing the first Panzer Dragoon the other day.
always found it easier to use tank controls for these games with static switching camera angles. Playing the RE1 remaster with "modern" controls had me pulling my hair out, switching back to previous angles or turning the wrong way and getting stuck at bad times.
38:55 i audibly awwed at a goddamned low-poly bulldog, what the fuck
I loved these kinds of games as a kid, because I always imagined myself making movies like them. Ah, to be young . . .
Great vid
Yup those camera angles would do that for sure

Rambo lives!
Over one hour dungeon chill video. Let's make some popcorn.

ACCIDENTALLY shooting a torpedo at a cruise ship? Good GOD, man. It’s the Lusitania all over again.
One of the funniest riffs of all time, I miss that channel at much
Just checked and Retsupurae uploaded a “Where Are They Now?” to let people know they’re alright.
54:04 HEY! That the same sound effect from menu of The Ring: Terror's Realm!
Rambo should have been promoted to Sega's official mascot.
That's really interesting. Hm. I liked Code Veronica.

@@100Servings I LOVE Code: Veronica
@thermonuclearcollider4418 thanks for the info (no sarcasm lol damn the internet).
Just to think, once they found out the common cold was a preventative measure, he could have just coughed all over everyone still alive! Mind you, I love the craziness here. Entertaining.
Glad to see your channel blowing up. This is another great vid- cheers to the next.
ngl the house of the dead is and should have been sega's response to
resident evil as an alternative to the resource management survival horror approach capcom was taking at the time
31:06 Every deep ocean documentary with footage of crushed styrofoam cups or aluminium cans exposed at depths flashed before my eyes. Aren't these fellas near the Mariana Trench?
The hilarious character names that dont make any sense is probably my favorite part. It would be like if we made a game with Japanese characters and they were called Sushi Toyota and Fuji Wasabi
American equivalents of your examples would be like Pizza Ford and Rushmore Ketchup, which tbh is kinda awesome lol
Have you ever seen that roster made for an old NES (?) game of "American" baseball player names? Good ol' BOBSON DUGNUTT
I think dungeon chill is one of my favorite breakdown pages. Mostly because… of the hilarious editing.
SPOILERS!:
I really like how it ends with you being the only survivor just like the original Alien movie as the only ending.
You felt REALLY strongly for Anthony, huh?
Recently stumbled on your channel! Love the chill. Thanks for the content.
Always a joy watching your videos. I found your channel about two weeks ago and I have to say these early 3d adventure/action games go right up my alley.
I'm a simple man, I see Dungeon Chill, I chill in the dungeon.
Another great video DC! Interesting, informative, and the editing was great. I just wanted to leave a positive comment and let you know your hard work is appreciated 😊
For certain line readings, John sounds like Carl from Aqua Teen Hunger Force. 1:00:58 "These dolphins don't matta. None a dis mattas."
Yo! Ive been searching youtube lately for a channel like this. Thank you very much! And you made me laugh!
I HAVE THE VINYL OST IT SLAPS
This game also uses analog movement if you have the 3d control pad.
Analog controls with fixed camera angles are my favorite. Thankfully most RE games support it and also recent games like Tormented Souls and Alisa.
I really enjoy your videos, man. They’re well put together, narrated and the games you cover are very much my jam.
I’m curious if you’ve covered Mizzurna Falls? If not, I think it’d be up your alley.
"The Navy Seals will come and seal the Navy area"(paraphrasing)
The game sounds like a good idea hastily executed.
Honestly, DuBois sounds more like he came from a Monty Python sketch, than anything.
I think the Japanese version uses the English voices too.
@@PeperonyChease No, they have Japanese VAs for the JP version.
