I'm gona take a guess at what the W.A.C. means: Wireless Access Computer Makes sense since it is a computer, it's not wired and it has access to stuff. I just had a theory as to what the "True Ending" could be: All of the suspects are the Ripper... and the culprit is Burton. I say this because of what she reveals about the technology she developed that can put in subliminal messages. I'll have to actually reroll everything for plot points, but i theorize she is getting revenge on everyone within the old Web Runners group for what happened back then. She uses the subliminal code technology to imprint the persona of The Ripper and potentially her own notes and knowledge on how to use her code to commit the murders. Katherine was going to be yet another "Ripper", probably as a "surprise" to kill Quinlin once Burton had accomplished her goals and had no use for his reporting anymore....or as a means to kill him if he got to close to the truth; but somehow she managed to only get partially "coded" and thus caused her to "shut down" into a coma because her brain was LITERALLY being rewired/reprogrammed...and as is points out when Falconetti suggests Decking into Katherine's brain, serious damage can happen if you screw up decking around in the human brain, which Burton's subliminal code tech DOES and also why Burton was so opposed to Falconetti and Quinlin decking into Katherine....it COULD of exposed her, but she likely banked on them either killing Katherine or not being able to extract much info....at the very worst, if Quinlin got too close, Falconetti "Ripper Mode" could be triggered to end Quinlin. The ultimate point on this however: Why Katherine's Brain is active DURING the Ripper Attacks. It's because the Subliminal Code Tech...either the ones "coded" are connected (likely) for control reasons or it's a glitch due to Katherine not fully getting "coded" and ending in a Coma. But what about the Shoulder Wounds on Falconetti and Magnona? Simple... an "update" from Burton into the Subliminal Code already within them. Burton is likely monitoring her "Rippers" status or even issuing commands thru the subliminal code...she knows that Quinlin knows "The Ripper" is now wounded and singling out a Perp would ruin her overall grand scheme for revenge. So all of her "Rippers" feel pain in their shoulder, outside of the one that actually got shot, as a means to throw Quinlin into confusion or delay him further from interfering with her "Final Game". Unfortunately, Quinlin is piecing the pieces faster than Burton can delay him...so "The Ripper is making their move"... she gathers everyone, all her "Rippers" into a Final Game of "Jack the Ripper" with special guest player, Quinlin...who will do the deed of killing one of her Rippers and "Finishing the Case"...leaving her to get off scott free....or get merc'd by Quinlin if he chose her. I think THAT might of been the True Story/Intention of Ripper's story...but they likely didn't have the budget and time to flesh it out to that level...as you can tell that things get a bit rushed once the Branching "Suspects" start getting more and more evidence on them. They likely had the idea to have all the endings involving killing each perp be bad ends with the subtile hint that Quinlin didn't really Stop the Ripper...but if you found enough evidence regarding the Subliminal Code Tech and paid attention, maybe a few triggers as well... you'd either kill Burton and get the True Ending or have a final boss battle with her in cyberspace and get the true end. But that's just a theory....A GA--- [dead]
Oh man, this gives me memories of watching the Spoony Experiment :D EDIT: Also, funny thing you mention Gabriel Knight. Did you know I worked on the studio that made the remake? xD
This channel is an absolute fucking gem and I'm so stoked you keep putting out these long videos, as I'm pretty bummed I've already gone through all your uploads.
The crazy jumping from one plot point to the next actually seems like a respectable homage to the detective noir fiction (movies, books, and radio) of the 30s through the 50s
Thank you for highlighting this game. I played the demo on a PC Gamer CD back in "the day" and was kinda curious. I'd be interested in seeing you cover another one of these from those days, Angel Devoid.
The 1990s were this really wild time, where CD-ROM tech for games was new and every studio under the sun seemed to want to film an epic movie on a radio show budget. Some of them landed.. many didn't. It is surprising how many of these games managed to secure big name actors/former big name actors. Obviously some games like Wing Commander 3 had money to burn on hiring stellar A-List cast, while others evidently scraped together enough pennies to hire just the one big name guy and surrounding him with eager straight out of acting school students keen to work for free for the exposure.
Man, I remember playing the demo when I was younger. Funnily enough, it's the game that turned me on to Don't Fear the Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult, haha.
The shots of Jake typing on his keyboard with just his index fingers (also known as the "hunt and peck" style, usually done by people new to or unfamiliar with typing on a keyboard) always crack me up. Oh, and right as I'm typing this, I've reached the end of the video and of course it's the exact part I'm talking about LOL
Great video. This is the best channel I've stumbled across in a while and felt genuine excitement when I saw there was a new video nearly an hour long.
You brought it up in your initial showcase of other FMV games, but I think Psychic Detective could make for a good video. A game of shifting perspectives at will on a fixed timeline, hoping to find enough info to not horribly lose the final puzzle.
A lot of people watch the videos because they don't want to play the games themselves, and that's cool, but I want as many people as possible to play if they want to.
34:30 That is a REALLY impressive prosthetic effect for the 90s? That beats most of the graphic stuff in most video games back then. Manhunt does even come close to that.
What a cast! I was a 14 year old kid with a 200mhz Sony Vaio playing this game over and over back in 1996. They don't make em like this anymore. Please do Tex Avery or Gabriel Knight 2 some time. I'm 42 now, thanks for the memories.
"The wheels of justice grind slowly, but they're movin', they're MOVIN'!" I actually did a spit take from laughing when I heard this. How the fuck did I know know this game existed? I need to play this immediately, it brings me great joy.
This is awesome! I didn't know this kind of game thing was an actual thing. It's nice to learn about this game and its story. It was surprising to me that more games followed this trend back in the 90's because I played a similar one back then. I was it was amazing at the time but I didn't know there were other games that did this fmv style. The one I played was the Tim Curry Frankenstein one. I never could beat it because I was always so lost and confused on what to do next.
Man, what a trippy game. Glad i let you spoil it though, this is one of those things i think it's better to know and understand than actually play myself.
As a Sopranos fan, seeing John Ventimiglia (Artie Bucco) was crazy. Even crazier, the drug dealer that Christopher Walken interrogates is played by Brian Tarantina. He did a single episode of The Sopranos as Mustang Sally.
One thing about John Rhys-Davies's character that struck me was one line he said: "If you have a knife with a man's fingerprint on it, you have the wrong murder weapon." Basically it means 'not all are as they seem'. It's also kinda true in a way. If someone left behind a weapon with a fingerprint at a crime scene, but nothing else is around, it's probably fake; why would a killer make a mistake like that when he took every other precaution to not leave anything behind?
I never played this game myself, but there are truly some FMV games that really defined my gaming as a kid for some years, stuff like Rama and Blade Runner.
How amI just finding out about this now! I have a fever, there's only one prescription more Walken in games. You're Walken and talking with Christopher Walken.
So epically 90's.I played this when i was maybe 12 or 13 born in 84 Then later on that night i watched this movie with my friend called brain scan about teenage pc gamer amd it blew mind great little horror movie

So I was probably distracted by girls 😂 I’m going to try to up the resolution on a test clip in AVC and probably in Topaz as well. Let’s see if we can get a fan remaster going for this hidden gem ❤❤❤❤❤
Like many others who have commented, I first experienced this game through Spoony. Back then I only recognized a handful of the actors, so it was really fun seeing this game some 15 years later and having an appreciation for almost all of them at this point! Really really weird role for Jimmie Walker after Good Times, but I actually think he did a great job. Also fun to see Johnny Ventimiglia in this game right before the original Sopranos pilot which was filmed in 1997. Great memories!

The best part is that it's yet again a game I've never heard about. Thank you for finding such treasures!
Been a fan of your work since your video on The Dark Eye, and it's great to see how much your channel has grown. Very well deserved.
43:34 "oOOH, PLEase Don'T. noT tHE HeRAlD."
One of the best line reads in a game full of incredible line reads.
Thank goodness for the algorithm. I really love watching this type of videos. already binge watch your previous videos. and really love it.
Jake has to be one of my favorite protagonists you covered so far. A nice mix of guy genuinely trying to help while not afraid to take low blows.
Oh man, this gives me memories of watching the Spoony Experiment :D
EDIT: Also, funny thing you mention Gabriel Knight. Did you know I worked on the studio that made the remake? xD
What? I had no idea! That’s awesome (I mean, I hope it was awesome. I know game dev can have some horror stories)
@@dungeonchill I mean I only worked as a Marketing intern, but I was privy to a lot of info, including a few FMVs of a proposed GK4.
Good times xD
👀👀 Gabriel Knight 4, you say? Amazing.
@@dungeonchill yeah I should have made copies of the pitch videos of GK4
This channel is an absolute fucking gem and I'm so stoked you keep putting out these long videos, as I'm pretty bummed I've already gone through all your uploads.
Favorite walken line in this , " the only think not where it's supposed to be is this girls insides "
The crazy jumping from one plot point to the next actually seems like a respectable homage to the detective noir fiction (movies, books, and radio) of the 30s through the 50s
OMG, Clive Owen was in that clip of Privateer 2: The Darkening! awesome!
OMG. The guy that plays Falcon Eddie is the actor that played the main antagonist in The Warriors. Did not expect that.
Man, I remember playing the demo when I was younger. Funnily enough, it's the game that turned me on to Don't Fear the Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult, haha.
Tex Murphy: UAKM and its sequels are absolute classics !! :)
eh nah
The shots of Jake typing on his keyboard with just his index fingers (also known as the "hunt and peck" style, usually done by people new to or unfamiliar with typing on a keyboard) always crack me up. Oh, and right as I'm typing this, I've reached the end of the video and of course it's the exact part I'm talking about LOL
You cover the best games. Love the fresh takes and re-exposure to them. Keep doing what you do ❤
Great video. This is the best channel I've stumbled across in a while and felt genuine excitement when I saw there was a new video nearly an hour long.
You brought it up in your initial showcase of other FMV games, but I think Psychic Detective could make for a good video. A game of shifting perspectives at will on a fixed timeline, hoping to find enough info to not horribly lose the final puzzle.
thanks for introducing me to this! found the game, my pc was like nah, then found the video of the video scenes - even better for me !
ohoho, heck yeah! Thanks for the links to the game, a lot of channels dont do that
A lot of people watch the videos because they don't want to play the games themselves, and that's cool, but I want as many people as possible to play if they want to.
You have an uncanny knack for covering games that Retsupurae has riffed on.
Spoony did a hilarious playthrough of this game a long time ago. It's still out there if you want to see the game in more MST3K-esque way.
Is Falcon Eddie player by that guy from the warriors?
Crazy game. The end does seem a bit weirdly underwhelming but it did keep me interested until the very end.
Congratulations for 100k!
Thanks!
In Australia, this games name is also the review it got from FMV game fans.
34:30 That is a REALLY impressive prosthetic effect for the 90s? That beats most of the graphic stuff in most video games back then. Manhunt does even come close to that.
I get so excited when you do a video. You are great at adventure game breakdowns.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for covering this!
What a cast! I was a 14 year old kid with a 200mhz Sony Vaio playing this game over and over back in 1996. They don't make em like this anymore. Please do Tex Avery or Gabriel Knight 2 some time.
I'm 42 now, thanks for the memories.
The way I shouted when Wolf from 10th Kingdom poppped up on screen
This reminds me, what's Christopher Walken's favorite RPG?
DisGAEa.
DisGAEa...is un-f*cking-believable.
Wonderful timing - thank you for the long weekend watch!
I have gone my whole life without realizing I needed something so much. Thank you
Dungeon gets me through many days. Love this 90's 2000's lore
Weird, found this in my dad’s loft a couple of months back.
This game seems wild! Thanks for showing it. I love old weird FMV games
"The wheels of justice grind slowly, but they're movin', they're MOVIN'!"
I actually did a spit take from laughing when I heard this. How the fuck did I know know this game existed? I need to play this immediately, it brings me great joy.
Spankowsky is played by John Ventimiglia, the guy who plays Artie Bucco in the Sopranos. Made me laugh
Holy shit!!
Watching this from home in Hoboken at 20:43 and giggling like a little kid
I’m originally from Philly. Love the good-natured ribbing between PA and NJ folks.
@@dungeonchill My brother lives in Philly! We do this all the time lolol
How long have you lived in Japan?
@@TahuNuva2008 Almost 12 years. Been a long time.
This was one of those games I wish I had a copy of when it was new. Loved mystery/puzzle games back then with a passion.
As a kid, I thought Quinlan was played by Michael Biehn
I had a feeling this would be a subject of yours at some point. It gives off the right vibes.
Omg a video on an FMV game AND it has Christopher Walken!? This is gonna be fun!
Ripper, Phantasmagoria and the 7th Guest were some of my favorites growing up!
How amI just finding out about this now! I have a fever, there's only one prescription more Walken in games. You're Walken and talking with Christopher Walken.
I loved this recap so much. Thanks dungeonchill ✌️
So epically 90's.I played this when i was maybe 12 or 13 born in 84
Then later on that night i watched this movie with my friend called brain scan about teenage pc gamer amd it blew mind great little horror movie
I don't think we can forget that the lead singer of Nickleback is also in this game
Is that really him? Hold on, let me look at this photograph.
Droning keyboard chord. Could not unnotice it. It's like fmv soundtrack bagpipes.
I feel like I have the technology to upscale the footage😅
Thank you for this video! I can’t believe I missed this back in the 90’s although I would have been in ninth grade when it came out. So I was probably distracted by girls 😂
I’m going to try to up the resolution on a test clip in AVC and probably in Topaz as well.
