This just high quality, I hope you'll make more videos of games not many people make about. If there's one thing that I always find off is how little there is about the lady in the tower who also appears in the previous game.
they probably werent expecting to use her again considering how she kinda 180d into a villain in the 2nd, which is probably explained by being controlled by some evil force but 🤷🏻♂️
thank you for the amazing video! i started playing shadow tower abyss some days ago and i was totally lost about the mechanics and such, so this video came in a great time, and it's really well made too! i was surprised that this didn't had at least 100k views
Just started the game back up again after not being able to play it for a year or so. Definitely don't really know how to play that well so I am grateful for this video
I have this weird sense of wonder with games like shadow tower abyss, games edging on the obscure, with no wiki or concrete facts like in the case of Elden Ring. That sort of uncertainty when first playing, with the only thing telling you where to go are in game maps which are just scribbles on the wall, it makes the world feel so much bigger and alien. But ultimately, I feel they deserve proper documentation or wikis, so others in the future get to experience everything those games could offer, great video man.
@@NileFive Yeah I totally agree. That's exactly what drew me to the game originally, is the fact that the entire game was a mystery to most people. It was a ton of fun and super interesting to investigate and uncover what's going on with the game's story and mechanics. Glad you liked the video, and I hope it helps people out!
@@NileFive Nah I don't. I didn't put together a formal document of the translation or anything. It was mostly just getting info for the video and moving on.
The original Shadow Tower, while not exactly one of my favorite games, is definitely one of my favorite and most unforgettable experiences tbh. Its heavy emphasis on equipment durability, making you prioritize it over your own health, just fits its themes perfectly. The cover art is also just immaculately fitting and a vibe entirely of its own. It's a tough, frustrating game, that I don't know if I would have completed without save states, but my first playthrough of it will always remain something special. It's FromSoft's most survival horror game imo, it has the creepiness in spades and resources have to be managed very carefully, using multiple saves is simply a must for the very possible possibility of surviving an ordeal but having messed up beyond repair without realizing.
A minute and a half into the video and I already love how while researching you translated info that was lost to time for others to use in the future. Amazing work
Thanks! It was a lot of work but an absolute joy. I really wanted more people to learn about the game because I ended up loving it so much. I'm glad you like it so far!
Also, as i went back to replay it, i went looking for a guide to explain the mechanics... and the first one i went to on gamefaqs.... was yours!! Thank you so so much for all the work youve done!!!
Thanks so much for this video. I was about to play this game after beating Lunacid earlier this year and wanting to try out the games that inspired it.
@@ElucidatedByFire Yeah Lunacid is a great game and there are many references and nods to shadow tower & abyss and kings field games. The Developer even streamed both shadow towers on Twitch years ago.
@@ElucidatedByFire you should do more untranslated Japanese only games, im sure you'll get big putting spotlight on unique obscure games no one has heard of Should check of "deSPIRIA"
buying this game on release and it was only in japanese with no guides online, got stuck fairly far into the game because i didn't know what to do (truns out u had to get the 1 character to leave the area and check his seat for an item) i still wish this gets a remaster or a re-release at least digitally so we can have some more fun with it. i am also not sure if i still have my japanese copy somewhere in my parents house, will check next time i am there.
By the way, that weird dude, with the big cross for a face, in the red sands area? (He's the protagonist from the original game. He even drops one of the best armours from that game. One of the japanese manuals somewhere pretty blatantly spoils his origin).
Oh really? That's interesting. I never came across that info but that's really cool. I still want to play the original game and tie things together eventually
Is there a way to play this on a NA PS2? I headd theres swapdisc? I really want to try out this gem, especially after playing the origina Shadow Tower ❤
@@xXLunatikxXlul I'm not sure honestly. I played it on an emulator. Dealing with physical hardware can be a real pain. I have a PS5 controller with bluetooth to my PC so it's about the same experience minus a few minor graphical glitches
Perhaps they made a mistake by setting Shadow Tower Abyss in modern times. For it gives the main character the most powerful magic spell of them all. GUN
I'm not sure if it's ever really explained. Or at least, I don't remember why. I think it's less about "why" and more about the shock and hopelessness FromSoft was trying to convey, since finding it was our main goal the entire game.
The fuck? Did I just stumble into one of the greats of the new era of game essays?
Thank you man. I certainly hope so. I want to keep doing more of these. I'm already working out what's gonna come next.
Is this... A newly created channel make analysis videos of obscure games?! My goodness gracious, aren't I a lucky man to stumble upon such goodness!

Thanks so much!
Magnificent work here, can’t wait to look back here in a few years when your channel is massive

I can't wait to give it a try eventually and compare it to the original. It looks great in its own right
It's a tradition to play it during Spooky Month(October) 🍂🍁🎃
really great vid
I wouldn't say I enjoyed playing this as much as I did with the King's Field games but it was certainly an interesting experience
