  • How to improve your roundhouse kick?
    There are a few ways you can easily implement into your current training! My teacher, Ajarn Chai Sirisute, always remind us about the importance of lifting and pivoting the support leg while you are throwing you kick.
    In today's video, I will be going over some of the tips on how to improve your power and speed! Please let me know what you think of it in the comment section below!

    6:32 the step does more than adjust the angle... you are accelerating your core body as a whole which just adds to the power generated by the rotation. It also makes the whole process slower and more telegraphed.

      @@KevinLeeVlog so the kick has a chamber. A little bend in the knee before impact?? I have a karate background so roundhouse always come to mind with me doing this kick....

    • @crisalcantara7671
      @crisalcantara7671 Рік тому +1

      @@lrwhiteley it's almost the same as a karate mawashi geri but at the difference is more noticeable at the end of the kick , karate/ taekwondo has more snapping kicks after impact or should i say the leg is snapped back ( retracted) but in muay thai just like you said there is a slight bent in the leg and the leg isn't fully extended ( just like when throwing a hook puch ( arm stays bent and stiff) any way , what style of karate have you trained in 🤔

    Nice lesson on strapping on and holding the pads. Also thanks for the tip on the step in, I will definitely use that.
    Question though, do you guys in JKD and Wing Chun do framing, parrying, and manipulation with your legs? In Muay Thai you'll see a lot of people, controlling their opponents after they knee/kick, framing, parrying with their 'check', and even throwing their leg out there just to initiate and obtain control. I was wondering if JKD and Wing Chun had some as well that maybe I could utilize effectively in training and fighting.
    I'm going to be honest, I was a little skeptical about clicking on a Muay Thai video from a seemingly WC JKD guy, but I'm glad I did. Thank you for your surprisingly very informative video. Keep it up guys. สู้ๆ

    • @KevinLeeVlog
      @KevinLeeVlog  3 роки тому +2

      Thank you for taking your time to ask some questions!
      The short answer to your first question is yes! We do a lot of “Chi Gerg”, which means “Sticky Leg”, it is a great way to practice control and manipulation of your opponent. We also practice a lot of short kicks in WC, which a great technique for short, fast kick. In JKD, due to the variety, there are a lot more influence from Kali and silat. I have something lined up for the next video talking about “kicks” in different martial arts. Be sure to stay tuned!
      Side note: I totally get it. It seems like I am getting more seem as a WC/JKD guy. 😅. I have been practicing Muay Thai for about 16 years under Ajarn Chai Sirisute.

    • @mightymeatmonsta
      @mightymeatmonsta 3 роки тому +1

      Yes! In traditional wing chun we use our foot or hand to stop the kick or elbow, entering in, using angled steps and a body rotation towards the attack, which not only allows us to see it, but also pulls us away from the attack. This takes away your ability to produce power (you NEED the full arc to produce power), and allows us to enter in easily and quickly, while controlling the arm or leg (or BOTH!), allowing us to break your structure, which will cause an opening we can exploit. You DON'T see this in crappy modified wing chun or second-rate JKD!!

    I get pain in my hip socket and femur when I kick higher than hip height. The only way it doesn't hurt is when I twist my pivot foot completely behind me but then the kicking leg twists too much inwards too. Do you have any suggestions?

    also Kevin if you kick with the lower part of you shin and lets say the opponent checks it, will it break? Lets also say that you kick it the right way and not the wrong way (going up). This has always been a curiosity of mine.

    Hello Kevin,
    I just started out doing MT this week. I find what you teach really good just that when I try to apply it I just can't keep to get to the 3 main pointers.
    Any good routine for me to keep training and repeating?
    I can't seem to lift my lead leg high without losing balance.
    And can't get the hip turn at last min..
    And also I keep getting contacted in my upper feet which hurts.
    Any tips? Please help

      @lemmefeelyerjibblets8856 2 роки тому +4

      I'm not Kevin but I can give some tips. I also had all of these problems when I first started and honestly the best way to improve is to just keep at it. I like spending time after lessons just kicking the heavy bag lightly and focusing on the technique. Lots of stretching as well. Find some stretches on youtube that focus on hip mobility and flexibility. My personal favorite is to have your partner hold your leg up at about hip height and then do the hip twisting motion that simulates a kick.
      Lots of patience is important, you won't regret it. The hip movement is one of the hardest things to really get good at, but practice is all it takes to improve.
