Would you have any tips to throw your hook kick more effectively? I throw a pretty good spinning hook kick but it’s powered by momentum and I can’t seem to generate any momentum for my front hook kick.
@@Zohard104 because the hook kick is very different from a roundhouse or spining hook kick, in one you are using your whole body meanwhile in the front hook kick is just the force from your leg colapsing. it is basicaly the same movement you do heel to butt walk. focus first on the speed, recovery and form then with repetition power will come slowly but steady. (also i cant even do a proper spining hook kick, kudos to you 😊)
My brother, I appreciate you. You beat Tyron that first time and should have had that belt bro! Dude, If I could switch places with anyone in this world it would be you. You got this!! I've been training MMA off and on for like 15 years. I am close to your age. I got into TKD at 3rd grade. Bjj and wrestling in high school. With these kind of videos I feel you sharpen my knife.Full respect.
I love back kick when they move behind your lead arm. u can throw wheel kick same way too. I also love rear round kick then throwing wheel kick over opponent shoulder when open stance
Your a huge inspiration wonderboy. I learn a lot from the channel. It would be great if you made a video on how to block and counter the most common techniques.
Setup: Backlist to head with left hand. Lead leg round house to body with left leg. Attacking from 2 different directions and heights in quick succession as both techniques are the jab/faster variety.
Great video, very educational. On the spinning back kicks, you’ll get more power if you rotate your shoulders into southpaw and then twist them back as you unload. It will also be easier to spot your target. You’ll also have better balance once you’ve finished.
For me still as a beginner I have tried to get the spinning back kick in my game, I love the jab jab faint jab and boom spinning back kick to the liver.
My favorite I learned from Bas. Hit 2 really strong body kicks and when you go for your 3rd same set up same motion and at the last second transition to the head and 90% of the time it's wide open.
I’m always using the lead leg round house. Sparred a guy not to long ago, through it to the head…cleanest head kick I’ve ever had. He later told me he never saw the kick coming and had no idea what hit him. Also got a buddy at my dojo who when I asked if he wanted to practice lead round on pads said “that doesn’t exist” and “that’s weak”. Handed him the shield and proved him wrong haha.
Just saw this video and it reminded me of some of the kick set ups I used to do when I did kickboxing ten plus years ago. I used to get into a lot of fights growing up and kinda learnt the psychology of opponents reactions to what I did, (I didn't do flashy tornado kicks, high head kicks back then lol, just my fists, knees and head butts...) I took that mindset into kickboxing and I couldn't believe how effective it was. My favourite set up by far was the fake right cross/left side kick tornado kick. So I'd get my opponent wary of my right cross or left side kick, (I'm left handed but was forced to train orthodox when I started ABA boxing,) and then when they started to move to my left, I'd then stomp forward, they'd move to my left with my back to them guard down so it gave them the mindset of being comfortable with their guard about to smash me up. I'd quickly with the stomp forward movement spin in a clockwise motion, right knee up, chamber my left leg knee up and then throwing like a whip tornado kick; I've accidentally knocked two people out practicing this in sparring to see if it actually worked and it did, (even going 20% practicing it showed how dangerous it was because with my leg coming in from left to right and them moving from right to left it ripped my sparring partner's head guard off his head lol,) I remember seeing Michael Page back in his freestyle karate days; what Michael said about doing his own thing made me want to do the same.
I like using the spin back kick and the spin hook Kick as they are doing back leg round house they take the same amount of time but you get your head out of the way of their kick and you normally catch them falling into your kick adding power to your kick.
I started training Muay Thai so all these concepts were so confusing (except the side kick), but my gym brought Bill Superfoot Wallace in and he has a great system built in these 3 kicks. Great stuff
I'll have to retrain my spinning kick I always thought my shoulders had to be aimed at the target so I kicked with leg and rotation, but now knowing it's all in the butt, I'm gonna aim for more power
Based on his suggestion I've been developing my lead leg round kick. I've been very effective with throwing a jab to the head followed by a cross or jab to the body. Then as I come up, I lean back a little to sneak in a lead leg kick to the head.
i think i've got a pretty mean lead leg roundhouse (my left leg is way faster & more flexible than my right because I do a lot of checks against low kicks), but recently i'm learning to appreciate the spin thrust kick while exchanging punches in the pocket. i even got my sparring partner on the chin once when i missed 1 thrust kick and immediately fired off with the other leg when he started circling.
I only spent a about a week in my dad's karate classes in kindergarten. I like the horsequat and summo squat/walk for preparing. I like straight low teeps. Simple, quick effective, easier to be accurate, less chance of injury, with good level change for high strike mix combos. My father blew out his hips after years of karate. I'm not a fan of turning my back to an opponent unless the move is a knockout. Spinning kicks make it hard to be accurate and knock someone out. Head kicks do seem to be good sneak attacks but only if you are trained enough.
Hey Steven as a huge fan of your work in the ufc and on UA-cam do you plan on fighting again or are you done no mater the decision youll always be one of the best to do it
Steven! It's not called telegraphing, it's called UA-cam tutorials! Stop giving away your techniques and learn to grapple, get that damn belt! We love you 🐐
What I would like to see of Wonderboy: I'd like to see a 3,4 after that 1,2 and then finish with 2 elbows, before leaving the position from a sidekick. Maybe some good 1950's cussing too.
Nicholas Dalby next? might sound kind of random but hes on a solid 4 fight win streak and is also a striker for the most part. Does some grappling though.
Bruce Lee talked a lot about lead leg kicks, because there's less Telegraph and I noticed Stephen throws a lot more lead kicks when he's right leg forward!
Is there a way to land in a more solid stance when doing the spin kick? Because I feel like it I would were to do the run or land with my back and butt facing them it leaves me open. (I do Muay Thai so idk if these could even correlate well).
Try it out of a longer karate like stance. You will be able to kick from further away. This will keep you safer and you will be able to generate more power because the kicking motion will be larger. After the kick, step down in a long stance again going away from your opponent. Once again establishing a "safer" distance. You can retreat quickly if needed from here too. Obviously if you land the kick well and you crush them, you can step forward towards your opponent to follow up. After turning, make sure you see your opponent so you know where they are. Corner of your eye is fine. You're just making sure they are still where you think they are. If they aren't, then abandon the kick. This kick makes more sense from a further away than typical Muay Thai distance. Teep to back kick is a nice combo. Use the teep to push them into back kick distance. After the teep step down into a longer stance and turn into the back kick. If you get your whole body moving into the back kick it will have tremendous power. I hope that wasn't too much.
The bag flying off screen was just an edit… I’m pretty sure. I’m like 65% sure.

Hahahaha what an original joke

A bit of an a.. though...
Not a bad idea
I’m literally in my room doing these kicks if it wasn’t for Wonderboy my love for the sport wouldn’t exist Ty WB 🙏🏾🙌🏾
keep kicking ;) :)
I remember practicing those 3 lead kicks all the time when I was a kid because of Bill Superfoot Wallace.
Superfoot was so ahead of his time
Bill foot super Wallace
Not enough love in the MMA/Combat world for the hook kick (my favorite), about time it gets some representation!
Is high risk high reward specially when aimed at the head
