    At this point Sony vs Canon feels like iOs vs Andriod.
    Canon, like iOs, just works out of the box. Great colors, great system, intuitive, comfortable, very high quality, closed system, limited features for certain users, allows you to just plug and play, focus on your creativity.
    Sony, like Andriod, has a robust custom system, not so intuitive but has a higher performance ceiling, open system to other vendors, the user is often the limit to what the device can truly do, you need to fine tune it to your needs
    Both fantastic systems that serve different users. There comes a point where there is neither right or wrong with these, they are tools that let you express yourself. That being said, I'm a hobbyist photographer who wants to get back to shooting. Socials and UA-camrs are all about Sony but after take a step back and looking at what I want to do I'm leaning towards the Canon R8, RF 50mm F1.8, RF 85mm F2, RF70-200mm F4 for family and the odd job here and there.
    I was initially going to go with the A7III with a similar lens set up but I think would enjoy shooting on Canon more. I haven't used either system and I'm starting from scratch.
    Max Budget: $3500

    You missed the biggest cripples on the A7IV... cropped 4K60 and really bad rolling shutter. That and the 2005 LCD are deal breakers. As for the IBIS, I've seen about a dozen comparisons and this is the first one that picked the Sony. All the rest picked the Canon. The R6 II has the fastest readout of any non stacked full frame sensor out there.
    I did comparisons for raw photos and the R6 II has slightly more dynamic range than the Sony, and is slightly cleaner at higher ISOs. Clog3 really seems to be the crutch here (not the sensor).

      Came here to say the exact same thing! Not a single other review has said sony ibis is better. Since the first R6 canon has always won that. And how did they miss the full frame 4k60 vs the forced crop on the a7iv?

  • @maximgaiazov9867
    @maximgaiazov9867 Рік тому +5

    wait, did you compare sony with G lens vs Canon with old EF ? it's not feasible test. use RF

  • @firpofutbol
    @firpofutbol Рік тому +43

    I like Sony's lighter and more compact form factor. The dynamic range is it's main selling point IMO. But I dont know if you can say it wins in the video department outright due to its rolling shutter, cropped 4k, and lack of raw recording. The moment you pan the camera it goes from a wonderful filmic camera to a $200 1996 video camera. That's disappointing. I wish Canon unlocked Clog 2 on the Canon, but it does record externally in 6k raw. At least Canon's most distinct disadvantage (dynamic range) can be remedied by an external recorder to some extent, but can you fix rolling shutter, cropped 4k, and lack of raw recording? This experiment is flawed in that it uses the best Sony lens on the A7IV next to an older generation lens on the Canon. The RF lens is much better and is stabilized. Canon's IBIS is meant to be optimized in combination with RF lenses. IMO Canon beat Sony in this class of camera, shockingly.

      Agree, but actually it displays a valid point. I went with the A7iv (as someone who prefers Canon) due to the exorbitant lens cost for RF. EF glass, even used, is often the same price as the exceptional (and partly Sony owned) Tamron. Aside from the lower rez rear LCD, I enjoy the Sony system. Canon still is overall my favorite experience.

    The Canon R6 Mark II does not officially have dual native ISO. However, some users have reported that it performs similarly to cameras with dual native ISO, particularly at ISO 800 and 3200, where it seems to produce cleaner images with less noise.

    i use canon eos rp and eos r till this day, for the file, sony win hands down, clean high iso, dynamic range ... but 3+ year using RP its never over heat or shutter problem, or button problem or body rubber problem. my sony friend that use a7 classic, the body is loosing the paint, and the body rubber is fell offf, the dial button is much stiffer now, the canon is fine. and my friend using the a7ii for 3 year and have service 5 time, replace the flexible cable and the mother board, that couse the button not function. so the durability of eos r is like a tank, is more similiar to 5Dmk2. very durable.

    Absolutely agree with you and that’s why being a canon user having the R5 bought the Sony a7IV over the original R6, lens selection and Specs including 32 megapixels for wildlife photography. It would be a tougher decision today with the R6 Mark II as I love the ergonomics of Canon but would still buy the Sony for weddings with the Tamron 35-150! 😊

    nice review.... I always find it interesting nobody mentions false color for exposure on the R6 mii. Love this feature. for me much better than zebra's. the mini HDMi is a big downer for sure. Noise cleans up well but not an issue for me. (I shoot weddings/commercial). wide angle IBIS with wobble is really poor with canon. End of the day.... both units really rock. especial if paired with an atomos ninja.

    I have the R6 Mark II and have to say the noise in video for CLOG-3 is extremely frustrating. I am glad to see it here because I thought maybe it was me. I sold the A7IV in favor of the R6 Mark II for sports photo purposes and that is where I personally feel the R6 II wins out, that and the rolling shutter performance is much better on the R6 Mark II.. With that said if I could go back in time, I would likely keep the A7IV as I feel like it is the better overall hybrid camera for someone who leans more on the video side.

    Great video, thanks! Would love to see a series on the best EF adapted glass for RF. I shoot on an A7iv currently but that was due to 20mp on the R6 not cutting it for me... and the lens selection cost-to-performance ration. Such outstanding affordable or top notch GM used offerings out there. Canon truly is shooting themselves in the hot-shoe by closing their RF mount to 3rd Party. I'd be back on Canon if the lens landscape was different. I also thoroughly enjoy how customizable Sony's bodies are. There are far more customization options/buttons on the Sony System... but really miss being able to use the top 1/3rd of the rear screen as a joystick (RP)! Thanks again, balanced review!

    Thanks for creating the video! I'm not a fan of Micro HDMI but calling it cruddy makes it sound like it is non functional. The truth is... The port is just less robust. The sharpness test is neither here nor there because the A7iv is sharper that some of the best cinema cameras out there. (Less digital sharpness is usually more desired for a filmic look)

    My conclusion is that reviews are not 100% reliable. Most leans toward Sony and since most of these products are so expensive you rarely get an apples to apples comparison. Someone here mentioned the EF lens used in the video for the R6 mk2 does not work with the IBIS. The Canon enthusiast on you tube note that there in fact a real weakness with wobble but its only with 24mm and under. Its possible what we saw in this review regarding the wobble was due to lens incompatibility. As expensive as they are, I recommend to go with RF lenses if you go Canon. I ended up with the R6 mk 2 myself because of the recent discounts. I was able to get it for $2299 USD with the 24-105 STM. The A7 IV was discounted for the same but only the body.
