What's happening is that, traditionally, men will carry on the family name while women go off and get married into other families, so if the parents had a son, his wife and kids would usually be living with him and the (grand)parents. In those cases it's mostly the wife who does the caretaking. If you had a daughter you knew she would leave one day. So your statement is not technically wrong, but could be misunderstood.

1:57 both things are true. They actually lied about population for years and the one child thing was horrible for female babies. Even worse for those poor rural men. They can’t compete with city men. The men in the farming villages are looking at a life of celibacy.
