You asked for it, I made it. Be sure to leave the topics you would like me to cover in The Elder Scrolls Lore Series! It took me 4 days to get that Battlespire footage, and 2 days to get the Skyrim footage because all the textures were broken. Good times :D
The Ideal Masters are so similar to The Molag Bal in almost all matters. A couple of necromancers that served Molag Bal, found out a way to serve themselves. It could be a really interesting game. Think about it. The Soul Cairn is so similar to The Coldharbour, it even looks like Coldharbour.
Letting the Dragonborn go prevents the apocalypse, allowing more souls to be born, and more to be trapped, therefore more fuel and slaves for the Ideal Masters. Let one go, receive more for eternity.
That's actually a fair point. The game is vague as too what happens to the 'dragon souls' technically when they are absorbed by the Dragonborn. Are they literally trapped inside him or perhaps they know something we don't. Perhaps bits of the souls of the Dragon's we kill go to the Soul Cairn. If that were the case then they absolutely would not want to kill the Dragonborn because he would be sending them power of Dragon's that are definitely powerful beings. Now, other than Drunevir we don't see any Dragon's there... but who's to say? We might be helping them far more throughout Skyrim than we ever could know.
"Look, I don't know what's going on here, but it smacks of necromancy, and I won't stand for it. Goodbye." Might just be the best response in any bethesda game ever.
Maybe the Dragonborn's soul can't be used by them. No dragon can be captured using a soulgem and Dragonborn's soul may even be protected by Akatosh himself the way Alduin's is as he is the Hero of the Prophecy. Even Durnehviir doesn't appear to have given them his soul, just become their guard for someone whose soul they actually want, so it might have been their only way to get their payment from him. If you approach an Ideal Master, your health can't reach zero despite them clearly trying.

Rainbow Unicorn Sparkle Fairy Dust i do believe the dwemer have transcended mortality but i don’t think they are the ideal masters because lore wise they scoffed at the very idea of magic they followed the rules of logic and science hence their affinity to machines they were warriors and philosophers but were never mages and never had any interest for magic as they scoffed at the very idea of the Aedra and Daedra though the dwemer would use magic they only used it to give their machines magical properties or prolong the life of their MACHINES not flesh but machine so they would have no use for souls whatsoever more likely if they used souls they used the souls of atronach but more likely they have used bits of aetherium which is said to be pieces of aetherius in the flesh
It's absolutely in the interests of the Ideal Masters to let the Dovahkin stroll through the Soul Cairn and escape - in the end if they were to fail, the Ideal Masters' supply of souls would come to an end as well.
Definitely a good topic and one you have spent some time in putting information together. But remember, it wasn't the Ideal masters that let the Dragonborn into the Soul Cairn it was Serana's Vampire Pure-Blood and a Daughter of Coldharbour. Because of this and the ritual runes left in the Castle Volkihar Dungeons and the fact Serana's mother had already used her blood before it's pretty obvious how the Dragonborn could enter. The question we should really be trying to answer is why the Ideal Masters decided to only watch? Because to me it's seems like they had a plan for the Dragonborn. But then, when the Dragonborn defeats Durnehviir and agrees to let him "join" the Dragonborn, for each kill Durnehviir takes the soul could potentially now belong to the Ideal Masters. Just a thought.
Semi convinced the Dwemer are the Ideal Masters, and I based that on very literal. Mainly their personalities, strategies, and equally mysterious origin as the Dwemer's disappearance. Loved the video :)
Thank you for finding a link between games like this! Tons of people play skyrim and oblivion, oblivious to the strings that connect these great games to yhe series!! Keep it up bro! Much love!
You've got a knack for lore videos like this. You have a good voice for it and know how to set the tone and keep it interesting throughout the entire video. Can't wait for more of these and more of the Elder Scrolls Detective series.
How satisfying would it be to consume the ideal masters, absorbing their rotton powers to rule over the soul cairn as they used to, but with your own will. I would make good of the promise of peace, and show real power with my new servants as I liberate the world of evil with the spirits, changing necromancy forever.
Camelworks is one of the ONLY youtubers that actually do proper research and effort for his videos. Lets turn off adblock and watch ads for him, it doesnt take as much effort as he puts in his vids.
Rainbow Unicorn Sparkle Fairy Dust they can't be, as the dragon there was enslaved by the Ideal Masters, way before the dwemer disappeared. Also, the dwemer didn't really dabble in necromancy, so it would seem odd that they would be come the greatest patrons of necromancy
If any soul collected into a Soul Gem is transferred into the Soul Cairn upon use, it's very much in the best interests of the Ideal Masters to not interfere in the work of the Dragonborn. All those weapon recharges and enchantment leveling tactics probably provided the Masters with quite a few new servants. Durnehviir has become bound forever by his time in the Soul Cairn, and they likely long ago gave up on Valerica submitting to them, so they don't really lose anything by letting the Dragonborn get what they want either.
Great video for how long I've been seeking more informations on the Ideals Masters, I wish we could become their champion or something with either a soul reaping weapon or something like that to make Necromancer characters having one more thing to seek in the soul cairn
Jack Legion definitely not on the level of Anu or Padomay. I think they are probably demi princes, as they don't really have any feats to go by, and we know they aren't completely immortal.
Someone said Molag Bal was a Draegh Prince in a previous Kalpa. Only reference I could find was in one of the Lessons of Vivec. So maybe the kalpas go at least to Oblivion? Does that mean Nirn gets remade or just reformed and rearranged every kalpa? I would think a new Akatosh and new Lorkan every kalpa would be stupid.
I would love to see more from the first two Elder Scrolls games. It's great learning obscure things about Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim, but with how hard it is to get Arena and Daggerfall to run on modern machines, I feel like the old history of the ES universe is slipping from view for many people.
it's not only how hard it is to get to run, but also how horribly they play. they are unbearable to play at this point. no matter how much you love elder scrolls, those games are painful to sit through.
So like a special secret boss fight in the boneyard that you have to collect some kind of super-rare drop to trigger, with 40,000 hp in the first phase, 60,000 hp in the second phase, and 80,000 hp in the third phase, with boneman, mistman, wrathman, and ghost adds numbering in the hundreds each, scores of ghostly legendary dragon adds, multiple slow-moving beam attacks like potema's death ray in addition to their normal soul-siphon, and only momentary lapses in otherwise perfect defenses that have to be expertly taken advantage of, with a few helpful objects or contraptions scattered around the arena to make the fight remotely survivable?
Greg Martin Minions only in the last phase when they are weaker, the other phases would be them taking form of horrible huge beasts each phase it becomes more violent and desperate taking even creepier forms of oblivion like beasts that the player can barely comprehend theyre form, each phase they would devour more souls and change arena, we would have the help of saint jub and the soul cairn dragon but only once because the ideal masters own them.
Greg Martin big problem with having adds in the hundreds though. Unless you have a follower, you're on you're own. Even if they did 1 damage every second, that'd be more than most characters could handle.
First person in Morrowind was Jiub. In Oblivion called 'Saint Jiub' and his spirit is trapped in Soul Cairn. That alter of Xrib is sacriface area for Dwemers. To say the least Jiub who was a Dunmer was far too young to be even connected to this site. Since in ruins underground there is Temple of Xrib full of Falmers, I believe the normal sacriface on altar above must have been Snow Elves. Better question is - who or what was Xrib ? We don't really know Dwemer 'faith' in Logic and Mind or anything for Snow Elves - we only know they worshipped mostly Auriel/Akatosh. Or even better question to TES'es is this: aren't Nords cursed by Akatosh himself ? Just think about it.
Xrib was a dwemer tonal engineer. There seems to have been a tradition among the dwemer of honoring their tonal engineers as gods unto themselves, with various chapels, temples, etc. in what is perhaps some kind of hipster-esque mockery of the faiths of other cultures in worshiping the aedra and the daedra. Or perhaps there was some kind of deification or apotheosis necessary to being a tonal engineer. We just don't know, really.
So a video at 5 in the morning. Sweet. I'm really looking for a good Dwarven video, not a "five facts" or five minute video. I need a good 20+ minute video on Elder Scrolls Dwarves, their full lore and history.
I love the way you treat TES world as if it was real. When playing IV oblivion, I’d look at ruins and be fascinated by their past as if they were real haha. I always wanted an TES Encyclopaedia book, but never found one. Your videos are great visual encyclopaedic references. Love your work
Maybe if I was an ideal Master I would think it was eternal love and beauty too. Maybe from thier perspective they really are having a great time. But on the outside looking in it doesn't seem that way. Of course thier servants are miserable but maybe the ideal masters vision is tainted in some way. Why else would they say it is eternal love? I think if they were miserable they would admit it and ask for help releasing their soul from eternal torment, at least I would. So maybe... there is just a difference of reality for the two. I certainly wouldn't become their servants because I know the servants don't enjoy it... But if I was an ideal master... Maybe I would also feel eternal love... so it would be a good choice for me.. albeit a selfish one.
I literally wandered the Soul Cairn for about 2 and 1/2 hours this morning and those things are at this moment the bane of my existence. Thank goodness for those soul husks though.
Here's an interesting thought. Maybe the Ideal Masters allowed the Dragonborn to leave because they would go on to absorb more dragon souls? What happens to those souls when the Dragonborn dies? Maybe they go to the Soul Cairn. Maybe the Dragonborn is a kind of living soul gem for dragons.
I was flying around the Soul Cairn in free camera mode and as I approached an Ideal Master crystal, I saw a Mannequin floating just outside of it. Creepy stuff
the 'ideal' component of their name does not seem to refer to perfection, but rather as a descriptor of their metaphysical nature; they are made of the stuff of thoughts. This, in my opinion, corroberates well with Michael Kirkbride's insane gnosticism and its ties to platonism [which falls under idealism]
By the sound of it, the Ideal Masters are extremist nihilistic spiritualists. They believe that life is pain and that mortal flesh is a prison, and since they've found an "alternative" to life, then in their minds this alternative is better and thus they consider it a gift. The peace they speak of is the peace of death, the love they speak of is the fact that death spares none and grants its "gift" to all. I'd hazard a guess that only a few people in their service have truly shared this view, or even understand it, and these would be the only ones to see their "gift" in the same way they do. All in all, some real fucked up shit.
Great video. I had no clue the ideal masters were in battlespire. I never played it. I would like to see more videos on the Aedra or perhaps delving into more of the elder scrolls literature in the games
Is it a coincidence that I'm in the soul Caron on my Nintendo switch I just beat durnivir or however you spell it also the dragonborn constantly takes lives and takes many souls so letting the dragonborn come and go as he pleases actually helps them gain souls.
yep, ever even thought about the ass tons of soul gems you use n the game^^ like i´m usually enchanting like a mad man and my main weapon is always a soul trap one^^ so letting me run was much in their favour xD
Also consider that the dragonborn kills alduin. Destined to wreck the world. Without a world. No soul gems are used and no souls are gained. They want the dragonborn to run off. Safe the world and resume using soul gmes
Cherry Dragon if Alduin destroys the world it would be reborn, if these Ideal masters would keep their power and status like the daedra and aedra do I can't say
during the quest "The House Of Horrors" I use a weapon with fire soul trap on Logrolf with a black soul gem, and I say "Sorry Bal, if you want Logrolf, go to the Soul Cairn and get him yourself."
Is there any lore on Talon Dreth? That would be an interesting backstory to hear about, since he's in search of The Atherium Forge. If you have any of the three items from the forge equipped, he tries to kill you, after a small bit of dialogue.
"Diminish our eternity" ...Apparently not that smart these fellers, since you can't add, nor subtract from something eternal, so mathematical is out of the window :P That, or they would ultimately cease to exist if they spent all their magicka/soul energy.
Could you do the story of the Nerevarine? I know it’s encompasses practically all of Morrowind’s and more but it is such a great story and it’s never really been done justice on UA-cam
Hm, it's likely that the Ideal Masters let the DB frollick around because he is integral in saving Nirn in its current state, in all DLCs. Since saving Nirn means that there will always be necromancers around to deal with it gives them a steady income of souls. From what I know it's only illegal in Morrowind and merely grounds for guild expulsion in Cyrodiil.
I was just telling my girlfriend about these guys and durnavir (spellcheck) and checked you and eso for a video and found none :o glad you made it! Thanks greatly!
Just did this the other day and I just assumed those gems were just massive replicas of the soul gems because soul cairn. Had no idea I was looking at an all powerful being! I'm not surprised they let me go though, all the soul trap I use with my bow they better see fit to not take my soul! 😂
You should look into the events that changed in the timeline of tes due to the dragonbreak at the end of tes2: Daggerfall such as; tiber septim combining with ysmir to become the 9th divine talos, cyrodil becoming a temperate forrest instead of a jungle, numidium being controlled by men, and The interregnum.
This is worthy of a quest mod. Perhaps someone will get the idea and have access to amazing voice acting? If I only knew how to code. It is a shame Bethesda did not go deeper into this.

The ideal masters are the dwemer. The dwemer "transcended" into gods and have their own slice of oblivion and that's where they disappeared too.
Rainbow Unicorn Sparkle Fairy Dust i do believe the dwemer have transcended mortality but i don’t think they are the ideal masters because lore wise they scoffed at the very idea of magic they followed the rules of logic and science hence their affinity to machines they were warriors and philosophers but were never mages and never had any interest for magic as they scoffed at the very idea of the Aedra and Daedra though the dwemer would use magic they only used it to give their machines magical properties or prolong the life of their MACHINES not flesh but machine so they would have no use for souls whatsoever more likely if they used souls they used the souls of atronach but more likely they have used bits of aetherium which is said to be pieces of aetherius in the flesh
i’m just stating my opinion that’s all
It's absolutely in the interests of the Ideal Masters to let the Dovahkin stroll through the Soul Cairn and escape - in the end if they were to fail, the Ideal Masters' supply of souls would come to an end as well.

Shor's bones. I did not read the fine print.
This channel is easily my favorite on UA-cam, every video I watched so far is overflowing with passion, I love it!
Well, right up there with FudgeMuppet. Teehee.
Jamie Knight also every single soul gem you have filled
Iron Wolf Can you elaborate more please.
Man the ammount of effort put into this video deserves a standing ovation
I'd love to see this series come back, I really enjoy Elder Scrolls lore quite a lot, and I'd bet money I'm not the only one
Love your videos Camel, keep up the good work! :)
Camelworks is one of the ONLY youtubers that actually do proper research and effort for his videos. Lets turn off adblock and watch ads for him, it doesnt take as much effort as he puts in his vids.
Well people if you use your brain the 'ideal masters' are
Masters who are ideal of being a master
X Gunslinger X a cunning explanation as cunning as a fox who was made professor of cunning at oxford university
Damn do yoy watch rick and morty?
*you.
The ideal masters are the dwemer. The dwemer "transcended" into gods and have their own slice of oblivion and that's where they disappeared too.
Thanks for doing these videos! It really makes playing the games that much more fun. I am a sucker for lore.
My ideal master is white female, has long red hair, wears overknees and "leather armor".
The complete deadpan delivery, odd supernatural powers, and unfair deals with people reminds me so much of G-Man.
Kalpas. How far reaching are they? Nirn? Oblivion? Aethurius? Padomay and Anu??
Jack Legion definitely not on the level of Anu or Padomay.
I think they are probably demi princes, as they don't really have any feats to go by, and we know they aren't completely immortal.
Someone said Molag Bal was a Draegh Prince in a previous Kalpa. Only reference I could find was in one of the Lessons of Vivec. So maybe the kalpas go at least to Oblivion? Does that mean Nirn gets remade or just reformed and rearranged every kalpa? I would think a new Akatosh and new Lorkan every kalpa would be stupid.
Jack Legion I wouldn't take veks lessons as fact, as he seemed to be trolling the shit out of us with them
At the very least Nirn, but consider that during the Dawn and Myrethic Eras, the barrier between Mundus and Oblivion was non-existant.
@@darknevermore3 akatosh does change every kalpa since he rules time and essentially has 3 forms: auriel (beginning), Akatosh, then alduin (the end).
Very grateful for this series, keep it up!
I use your videos to fall asleep.. your voice is so soothing and plus the Skyrim dreams I’m having are dope. Have a great life Bro, you deserve it.
I want a 3 hour boss battle with several phases against the ideal masters.
Logan Sanders The REAL problem with hundred of enemies is that whatever you’re playing on would probably catch fire and explode.
Ok let me just say the Ideal Master’s voice is inexplicably terrifying
Why are there no puns in this video???? I need my dose of puns!!!
You might say puns are not the ideal of the master of this channel.
This is one of the few channels that when they upload, I instantly drop what I'm doing
Ideal Masters = Bethesda programmers
more like bethesda shareholders and bankers ... :-)
Why work for money, when you can control all the money and make it work for you ?
Strange how yesterday I ravenously searched for videos on this exact topic, strangely still that they uploaded today. Thank the ideal masters indeed
Great video.
In Skyrim, there's a enigmatic Alter of Xrib. Who, or what, is Xrib?
isn't that a easter egg or homage to the first person you speak to in morrowind?
Just think about it.
thanks for clarification, I can't believe I forgot Jiub.
Nice to hear there was more lore to them then their brief and obscure appearance in Dawnguard.
Yes, finally this one
Here's an interesting thought. Maybe the Ideal Masters allowed the Dragonborn to leave because they would go on to absorb more dragon souls? What happens to those souls when the Dragonborn dies? Maybe they go to the Soul Cairn. Maybe the Dragonborn is a kind of living soul gem for dragons.
The ideal masters are what you expect from a master of something
I was flying around the Soul Cairn in free camera mode and as I approached an Ideal Master crystal, I saw a Mannequin floating just outside of it. Creepy stuff
Yess! You're awesome :D
Ideal Masters.... What a misnomer! Excellent video! Thanks for uploading!
The ideal master voices remind me of HAL from 2001 space odyssey
the 'ideal' component of their name does not seem to refer to perfection, but rather as a descriptor of their metaphysical nature; they are made of the stuff of thoughts. This, in my opinion, corroberates well with Michael Kirkbride's insane gnosticism and its ties to platonism [which falls under idealism]
I've never been so early. It's 5:00 am here.
DarkMajick yeah it's 5:30 just got off rainbow 6 siege for this video
It’s 6 here
renagale I just got off Skyrim to go to bed and saw the video had just showed up and had to watch.
Getting that old school Ideal Masters footage was gold, never realized. Now I feel kinda robbed in Skyrim.
It seems that the way Camel says "ideal masters" gets more and more intense with time.
Camel's lore videos are so much better than Fudgemuppet's.
Great video. I had no clue the ideal masters were in battlespire. I never played it.
I would like to see more videos on the Aedra or perhaps delving into more of the elder scrolls literature in the games
Is it a coincidence that I'm in the soul Caron on my Nintendo switch I just beat durnivir or however you spell it also the dragonborn constantly takes lives and takes many souls so letting the dragonborn come and go as he pleases actually helps them gain souls.
renagale normie
yep, ever even thought about the ass tons of soul gems you use n the game^^ like i´m usually enchanting like a mad man and my main weapon is always a soul trap one^^ so letting me run was much in their favour xD
* Says In A Quick Voice * "It took me four days to get this footage by the way..." ~ Camelworks 😂😂
Is there any lore on Talon Dreth? That would be an interesting backstory to hear about, since he's in search of The Atherium Forge. If you have any of the three items from the forge equipped, he tries to kill you, after a small bit of dialogue.
"Diminish our eternity"
...Apparently not that smart these fellers, since you can't add, nor subtract from something eternal, so mathematical is out of the window :P
That, or they would ultimately cease to exist if they spent all their magicka/soul energy.
i just seriously hope that the daedric princes or aedras put these ideal masters who are full of themselves on their places!
Pleaseee Do a lore video ysgramors soup spoon!!
I think having The Ideal Masters being a big part of TES6 could be very fun and interesting
Welcome to the video
Could you do the story of the Nerevarine? I know it’s encompasses practically all of Morrowind’s and more but it is such a great story and it’s never really been done justice on UA-cam
Can someone tell me what exactly the Lore is?
Hm, it's likely that the Ideal Masters let the DB frollick around because he is integral in saving Nirn in its current state, in all DLCs. Since saving Nirn means that there will always be necromancers around to deal with it gives them a steady income of souls. From what I know it's only illegal in Morrowind and merely grounds for guild expulsion in Cyrodiil.
Do the Great Houses of Morrowind
This was absolutely amazing. This was informative and entertaining.
Quite simply, the ideal masters are what you become when you get stoned to a whole new level XD
I really like how the Ideal Masters speak. Its so calming even though they want me to die.
#notfirst
I was just telling my girlfriend about these guys and durnavir (spellcheck) and checked you and eso for a video and found none :o glad you made it! Thanks greatly!
Camelworks, but he doesn't get paid.
is it just me or is the ideal master's voice incredibly fitting. gentle but emotionless
Holy shit.
I feel so guilty now...
everyone i soultrapped goes here? Not even nazeem deserve that... :(
Nazeem eats children!!!
you are right nazeem deserves worse
Just did this the other day and I just assumed those gems were just massive replicas of the soul gems because soul cairn. Had no idea I was looking at an all powerful being! I'm not surprised they let me go though, all the soul trap I use with my bow they better see fit to not take my soul! 😂
brb gonna soul trap delphine
Do Nazeem first, then her. Oh .. and dont forget Nirya, and some Thalmor.
Grelod too
Shadowmere might be a good subject to discuss too actually.
Daddy camel notice me cause I’m first
You should look into the events that changed in the timeline of tes due to the dragonbreak at the end of tes2: Daggerfall such as; tiber septim combining with ysmir to become the 9th divine talos, cyrodil becoming a temperate forrest instead of a jungle, numidium being controlled by men, and The interregnum.
FUCK YEAH
I was waiting for an explanation on who they are! Good work!
Deceiptful... almost like humans. =)
This is worthy of a quest mod. Perhaps someone will get the idea and have access to amazing voice acting? If I only knew how to code. It is a shame Bethesda did not go deeper into this.
