I'm pretty sure that the "large creature" that destroyed Kavatch was one of the daedric siege engines you see when you enter the great gate in Bruma. We know for a fact that there was a great gate at Kavatch.
I can make it can0n I can see what you mean, but why wouldn't they have used the siege engine on more cities sooner? They only attempt to use that later and its a race against time essetially to try and stop it, though that could just be passed off as shit writing on Bethesda's part.
Rick Baker maybe its overconfidence of the daedra, maybe they are confident that they can topple the other cities without it and it isnt until bruma that they bring it out in desperation and as a sort of "oh shit" button.
Rick Baker Because of Martin. Kvatch was attacked by the Daedra because the only person who could light the Dragonfires and foil Dagon's plan was living in Kvatch. Then they attacked Bruma, as mentioned in Jearl's orders, specifically to trap Martin at Cloud Ruler Temple and make sure he can't escape.
There is a possibility that the siege engine the deadra use could have been mistaken for a large beast given its centipede design. But it could have been the Sunken one.
Well on the deadlands dlc for ESO there are centipede like dreadra roaming around the oblivion plain and they look just like that "machine" near to the end of the game in TES 4: oblivion
The great creature was the seige engine. At the bruma gate quest you can see it and they mention that a great gate appeared at kvatch too. Therefore the seige engine destroyed the city
I believe too it was the seige engine because they talk just about 1 giant creature and he is not really taller than a daedroth or a xivilai but the seige engine definitely is
Thomas Watson I agree. This is nothing more than a family worshiping a daedra, and paranoia surrounding the destruction of kvatch via the Great gate and war machine.
There wasn't any after you destroy it at Bruma either, and it makes it out of the gate (if only a little bit.) this is probably just oversight by the developers. Not to mention The Sunken One isn't really tall enough to just "come over the walls" of the city. Also ESWIki (though i know it is only a wiki and therefor edited by fans) states; "The Siege Crawler (note; crawler, meaning it could theoretically crawl up the walls of the city) was first used at the Battle of Kvatch, in which it crushed the city's defenses, allowing the Lesser Daedra to pour through and slaughter the towns-people," though when you arrive there arent really any holes in the city walls themselves, (i mean, the main gate is still completely intact for crying out loud)
I thought the giant creature thing was a Siege Crawler. You know, the big thing you see in the Bruma Great Gate? They said it can only come through a great gate, like in Kvatch
@Camelworks, I think you should investigate sithis. What is he? An ancient god responsible for the creation of Nirn? Or a lie by Mephala to secure her assassin supporting tendencies? I think there is more to him than what most players think. Love the vids
Lazerkat789 sithis is the soul of Padomay, and is a powerful ancient being the opposite of AKA, however the dark brotherhood most likely are actually worshiping mephala

He could even have a follower dressed in the local guard attire who could give general info on some of the locals and locations in the video. He could then have a house or somewhere where he brings all of the evidence back to analyse. Just a thought, though the videos are still great as is.
No evidence of a siege engine? You kill one during the invasion of Chorrol. You don't see it again on tamriel because you stop it before it gets the chance. And correct me if I am mistaken but Martin talks about the gate crasher at least twice. With its oblong shape it could easily be mistaken for a daedra.
Adam Wiley I doubt that. Camel himself highlighted a quest referencing HP Lovecraft's work. So since they already did one I doubt they would be incline to do another. Also, Cthulhu and friends are unfathomable horrors, difficult if even possible to comprehend. Same can't be said for a single elemental.
There's absolutely no reason to think that "oh they did one, so they wouldn't do another!" It's not some fucking quota they have to fill, that's just ridiculous. The name "The Sunken One" IS a reference to the Lovecraft mythos, it doesn't mean the genuine article needs to feature in the quest itself. Notice how the OP referred to the actual line "the sunken one". The line itself is a reference, the reverence of the hidden cult offering tribute to a powerful being - is a reference. The whole thing doesn't have to be neat and fit in the same little box in order for it to be a reference.
The sunken one is actually a term used for the elder god lord(father) dagon the one who rules the deepoines of innsmouth which is referenced in an oblivion quest, also dagon in the stories is the one who will be the first to invade once all are awoken with his half man creations that will come from the dark ocean, the questline is innsmouth but kvatch has everything to be starting bell told about in the dagon portion of the cthulhu mythos, from the name to being the first to invade, to one of his possible followers having a title attributed to his namesake and even the plane of oblivion can be considered a "dark ocean" and if dagon created the sunken one it would explain its power, name, and that it would ring the bell for the invasion, also the fact that like in lovecraft, hell breaks loose when people stop giving offerings to the representative of an elder god, after all its not the offering that matters its the servility when it comes to dagon, he is the only one that looks to conquer in the mythos, cthulhu wants to awaken the outer gods and bring them to our realm to live again as their priest and the rest just exist, but dagon wants control

uh What about the giant Daedric siege machine? i thought it was explained that the larger broken gate already outside kvatch was a siege gate that let through the many legged mechanical siege beast.

The huge creature seen at the Kvatch gate was the siege engine. It seemed pretty obvious considering there was a siege engine at Bruma which was also a great gate and had a timer that if you ran out the engine would get through and level the city
From doing the quest myself, it seems he mistook the Deadra attacking Kvatch for his god, The Sunken One, showing some form of disatisfaction. He didn't see the siege engine, and I'm pretty sure Kvatch was the first use of a Seige engine, as 1 Oblivion gate outside of each city doesn't seem to be enough, so it must have been the "huge" Oblivion gate that some of the survivors talk about. Then when he woke up and saw that the siege ruined all of Kavatch he went to pay tribute fearing this entity was responsible (though it wasn't). As we can see, The Sunken One is a powerful Lesser Daedra, so it probably managed to manifest itself but limited to a certain location and rarely takes its form. Kvatch being attacked by Daedra (By the sky colouring and other Oblivion aesthetics present) means he must have linked the two, and jumped to a conclusion and set off. The fact you get a quest upon entering an empty building because it's empty, must mean that it must have been left fairly recently as if someone vanished suddenly, like, maybe he was making breakfast and looked out of a window, only seeing the end of the destruction, then suddenly leaving. I was more here because I wanted to see if this belief in an entity was connected to Hackdirt, seeing if this sort of similar powerful other worldly entity is what Hackdirt want to appease.
I mean, couldn't the giant creature be Mehrunes Dagon himself? He seemed to step over the walls of the Imperial City with ease and was able to tople buildings pretty easily as well
TheDigDeepScore ya the monster over the wall would definitely be the siege engine. Cus it was definitely used because they spawned a great gate. And it’s not like it knocked down the walls so it must have climbed over
Oh of course, I believe you camel, the storm atronach that I one shotted at level 5 was surely the one who destroyed an entire city full of powerful mages, knights, and gladiators.
Alexandrewvice At level 5, all the enemies are super weak. I took on the Sunken One at a slightly lower difficulty at lv 30 and it was fucking difficult, I died like five times
I always figured that big walking siege machine from the intro and battle of Bruma destroyed Kvatch they mentioned a giant beast that spits fire it's a giant beast like machine that spits fire and looks big enough to destroy walls
Ive always been a elder scrolls fan love this channel the way you make the smallest details or inconspicuous things into great stories. It makes it all seem new you have a good way with words perhapps you should try your hand at writing fantasy or fiction
Theory Suggestion: - Why was Rufio wanted dead in the first place? Dialogue would suggest that he possibly raped and murdered a woman, and his location, the Inn of Ill Omen, serves as a place of refuge from the authorities. Perhaps the person who performed the Black Sacrament to begin the contract is the same person who admits to praying to the Night Mother in the Imperial City Prison? A Black Sacrament ritual site can be found in one of the house basements in the Imperial City. Are there more scattered around Tamriel? Is the one in the Imperial City related to Rufio? "So I wanted somebody murdered. So I prayed to the Night Mother. What, is that a crime now? They even took my house, those bastards! Agh!" Side note - The Inn of Ill Omen is and its involvement in the Dark Brotherhood quest line is a Lord of the Rings reference.
faffing about Yeah, as a matter of fact I think Camel already mentioned that in his Oblivion Easter Eggs video! Good thinking, though, even if it was a little late
So I never played this game as much as others have. I decided to do this quest as I never knew it was a thing before. I paused the video as you came across the farmers body and played it myself. Not gonna lie, I was kind of....disappointed. I thought it would have gone on longer, I thought maybe the Sunken one would have a unique model, or maybe you'd get some special weapon or armor. Nope. it just ends D:
I always believed it was Mehrunes himself that came over the wall. Also, I thought I had done everything possible in this game, but apparently always neglected to actually go inside the farm. This whole quest is new to me 😂 The dunmer voice is spot on, and as a blackmetal singer, I say good job and mead or barley wines will help!
You wasted the effort on that voice, the only reason Dunmer have that voice is due to breathing in in the ash filled air of Morrowind. Dunmer from Cyrodil would have the normal voice they have in the game.
The fact that 350,000 people have watched a video this ‘non-mainstream’ tells you both how big the elder scrolls fandom is and just how starved said fandom is for new content
When america came to Japan under Teddy Roosevelt, the people of Japan thought the Americans came in a giant metal dragon. I believe the developers were making reference to it. "A giant came over the walls" reminds me of the vision Ureial Septum had before character creation. I believe the monster the survivor referred to was the war machien, and due to a lack of understanding they believed it to be a living creature.
I know youve probably figured this out by now but the "huge creature" you're looking for is that giant moving battle ram/seige engine thing you see in the great gate outside bruma..because they put a great gate in front of kvatch too.
@Camelworks - the thing that went over the wall of Kvatch was the daedric siegewalker. You see it in the last battle to close the main Oblivion gate north of Bruma. The machine is referenced in the quest as you enter.. There is a time limit to get the sigil stone and close the main gate before the machine goes into Cyrodil, or at least I believe this is the case. I never messed around long enough to explore and find out.
I think the "huge creature" the person from kvatch refers to is the giant siege engine from the opening cinematic that looks like it is suppose to drill down the gates
I thoroughly convinced myself that after I beat the main storyline in Oblivion (I saved it for the very end of my playthrough), Kvatch would be restored to its former glory and my character would be made the new Count of Kvatch. I really think Bthesda missed the boat on this one. Why not? The previous Count was dead, presumably his descendants were, also. Hero of Kvatch is just a useless title. Being the Count could have been a real position with responsibilities, etc.
@Camelworks Iirc, a Great Gate was opened at Kvatch, like the great gate that was opened at the Battle of Bruma. Though i don't think they directly say it, i think it's implied that the creature coming over the walls was a daedra siege engine (the big caterpillar-like daedric machine).
Someone needs to shed some light on how Gunjar died in the Helgen Keep. His death was always shrouded in mystery for me, as it seems that neither Alduin nor the Imperials killed him. He just lies dead there..
I feel like I need to point out how at near the end of the main quest line you have to acquire a great sigil stone or whatever, now what do we have in that oblivion gate where we find the great sigil stone? well a giant deadric warmachine that is about the size of a deadric main tower with hammering legs carrying it. now judging by the big size of the gate it is marching on one could also figure that the warmacnine is also tall enough to poke it's open end (which has a sigil stone at the end of it, the stuff needed to sustain Oblivion gates) even if you do not remember this thing, you can also take a look at the dialog from the guards near the oblivion gate where they say there were multiple gates there and that there has to be a way to close them because the enemy closed the other ones. I am also pretty sure that he mentioned there being a main gate right in the middle and that you can see by the markings on the ground where they stood you also do see the warmachine in the opening cutscene, surely that was bigger and mightier than that of a single more powerful Storm Atranoch? (doubt I spelled that right, sorry) while the Sunken One sounds like a great adversary, you are still able to beat it alone, now look at the warmachine that you cannot fight and have to close the gate before it leaves the Deadlands
You sound like Zorlak from Space Ghost: Coast to Coast. I was listening to your video while I was working and had to make sure I was still listening to the right video lmao.

But would the frighten people of Kavatch not also think that giant siege machine being a creature?
RIP this mans throat
I muted when he xid the cringe voice
thats a pretty good vvardenfell dark elf voice
Nice of you to look into this cold case from its watery grave.
I mean, couldn't the giant creature be Mehrunes Dagon himself? He seemed to step over the walls of the Imperial City with ease and was able to tople buildings pretty easily as well
TheDigDeepScore that large thing wasn't mehrunes dagon that was the seige machine.if it was mehrunes dagon he would have destroyed cyrodil.
Also, would Dragon not have been kept at bay by whatever prevented his full emergence prior to the end-game.
TheDigDeepScore ya the monster over the wall would definitely be the siege engine. Cus it was definitely used because they spawned a great gate. And it’s not like it knocked down the walls so it must have climbed over
The power of the Thu’um ain’t got shit on Camel’s Way of the Dunmer Voice.
*sees camel works uploads a oblivion vid
*pauses porn
Pelinal Whitestrake Hah, same. All five different webpages of it lol
camel is one of my favorite youtubers he actually explains things and looks at the facts and evidence
Oh of course, I believe you camel, the storm atronach that I one shotted at level 5 was surely the one who destroyed an entire city full of powerful mages, knights, and gladiators.
+Sassy Frass I beat him with Oscuro's Oblivion overhaul and Maskar's Oblivion overhaul while the difficulty was at 60%...
+Sassy Frass What did you play? skyrim casual fanboy...
Alexandrewvice At level 5, all the enemies are super weak. I took on the Sunken One at a slightly lower difficulty at lv 30 and it was fucking difficult, I died like five times
Try using the mods he used, you know not what difficulty is till you do
Level scaling, lol
Bethesda pls
I always figured that big walking siege machine from the intro and battle of Bruma destroyed Kvatch
they mentioned a giant beast that spits fire
it's a giant beast like machine that spits fire and looks big enough to destroy walls
Love these detective episodes
your alliterations are on point my guy. you sound like a poet. the way you weave words, willingly winning my wistful mind.
Remember, correlation does not equal causation.
I listen to a playlist of your ES detective videos while I sleep sometimes and I somehow always wake up at ur demonic dunmer voice thx
Your Dunmer voice is on point!
Ive always been a elder scrolls fan love this channel the way you make the smallest details or inconspicuous things into great stories. It makes it all seem new you have a good way with words perhapps you should try your hand at writing fantasy or fiction
That Dunmer voice hurt my throat
This was an awesomely informative video. I've always loved this little gem in Oblivion. More detective videos Camelworks! Keep up the good work!
Theory Suggestion:
- Why was Rufio wanted dead in the first place?
Agh!"
Side note - The Inn of Ill Omen is and its involvement in the Dark Brotherhood quest line is a Lord of the Rings reference.
Mr.Bootleg I think someone already did it and came to the conclusion that it is the guy in the Imperial city prison
faffing about Yeah, as a matter of fact I think Camel already mentioned that in his Oblivion Easter Eggs video! Good thinking, though, even if it was a little late
Really enjoying the Detective series Camel. Good work!
This whole quest is new to me 😂
The dunmer voice is spot on, and as a blackmetal singer, I say good job and mead or barley wines will help!
Good work camel, amazing video as allways!
I love finding an amazing new channel with TONS of videos to get into!
You wasted the effort on that voice, the only reason Dunmer have that voice is due to breathing in in the ash filled air of Morrowind. Dunmer from Cyrodil would have the normal voice they have in the game.
duuuude that voice was rad. keep up the detective videos, they're awesome and you're one of the best narrators I've heard on here! :)
Is the huge creature not Mehrunes Dagon?
Cormac Doyle no
Cormac Doyle its probably the seige engine seen in the opening cutscene of oblivion.
2:00
Fertile soil: * exists *
Camelworks: i'm about to end this man's whole career
If the Sunken One is so powerful, how come they are relatively easy to defeat?
Ishmam Ahmed Same with Jygalaag. No matter what, people are gonna bitch so you might as well make it easy.
He chose to allow you victory
I love this series. It's wonderful for people like me who want to know everything there is to know about TES
This is my porn.
The fact that 350,000 people have watched a video this ‘non-mainstream’ tells you both how big the elder scrolls fandom is and just how starved said fandom is for new content
Have you ever thought of doing a crossover video maybe with Avarti or MrRhexx
Faerith yea i don't like that guy to
Faerith Why?
i swear to god, this is the most entertainment i have had in a long long time, i can listen to you talk for anything for ever
18:10 I thought he was referring to the siege crawler, like the one that attacked Bruma, especially because the dude also says that it breathed fire
700 hours in Oblivion, my favorite game of all time, and I have never walked inside that farm.
The huge creature referred to is probably the daedric siege engine
you even see it in the opening cutscene
Ohmylord I can just imagine the expressions making that voice trying to endure the pain.
I've been playing for years and I never knew about this quest! Gosh there's so much in elder scrolls games!
I think the "huge creature" the person from kvatch refers to is the giant siege engine from the opening cinematic that looks like it is suppose to drill down the gates
I’ve played Oblivion since 2009. Played thousands of hours. And I never knew this quest even existed. God I love this game.
Man, I first thought you brought in another voice actor, but I was bamboozled! Tea and honey on me, mate. Good work!
Holy shot I just realised that Kvatch from that angle at the beginning of the video looks like a castle I saw in Edinburgh.
And on this chest is his second journal " *AAAACCccchhh* , as..."
:') I'm in tears.
@Camelworks
Iirc, a Great Gate was opened at Kvatch, like the great gate that was opened at the Battle of Bruma.
I assumed he just took a mortal blow while escaping into the keep but managed to get inside before he died.
I believe the giant creature that the Kvatch survivors was referring too was the Daedric Siege Engine that you encounter in the Battle of Bruma.
Thank you for this, I love this series so much
I feel like I need to point out how at near the end of the main quest line you have to acquire a great sigil stone or whatever, now what do we have in that oblivion gate where we find the great sigil stone? well a giant deadric warmachine that is about the size of a deadric main tower with hammering legs carrying it. now judging by the big size of the gate it is marching on one could also figure that the warmacnine is also tall enough to poke it's open end (which has a sigil stone at the end of it, the stuff needed to sustain Oblivion gates)
even if you do not remember this thing, you can also take a look at the dialog from the guards near the oblivion gate where they say there were multiple gates there and that there has to be a way to close them because the enemy closed the other ones. I am also pretty sure that he mentioned there being a main gate right in the middle and that you can see by the markings on the ground where they stood
you also do see the warmachine in the opening cutscene, surely that was bigger and mightier than that of a single more powerful Storm Atranoch? (doubt I spelled that right, sorry)
while the Sunken One sounds like a great adversary, you are still able to beat it alone, now look at the warmachine that you cannot fight and have to close the gate before it leaves the Deadlands
One of the best Dunmer voice acting I have ever seen
Never heard of this quest before, now back to Oblivion again on my Xbox one
I didn't mind the dinner voice :) I very much enjoy your videos. I'd love to seem more of Oblivion and Morrowind!
Hey Camelworks, I'm a big fan of this series. Could you do a video on the galdur legend in skyrim?
You sound like Zorlak from Space Ghost: Coast to Coast. I was listening to your video while I was working and had to make sure I was still listening to the right video lmao.
That dunmer voice was spot on bro! epic!
I love these longer TES Detective videos. Are you doing youtube full-time?
