Camelworks you should cover what would have happened if whiterun joined the stormcloaks instead of the empire in the civil war because they are against the stormcloaks no matter what.
The difference in size between the larger mainland rieklings seen in ESO and the smaller ones found on Solstheim centuries later is likely explained by "Island Dwarfism." When a species moves into an environment where resources are strictly limited (like on an island), it is comparatively easier for smaller individuals to reach the total amount of food that their smaller body needs in order to be well-fed and healthy, while larger individuals who require more food will more easily become malnourished and starve. Over time, those smaller individuals get evolutionarily selected for.
The Riekling chief doesn't want you to kill him because it's best for the tribe. It's because he felt threatened by your power and wants to kill you so you don't take his place. The other rieklings have already nsided with you and instantly kill the chief the moment he attacks you. Just read the quest menu after you finish it for proof. And on a different note, I really wanted to ride Bilgemuck after becoming chief.
i actually kinda love these dudes. I always like to side with them in the Mead Hall quest bc i love it when you're just questing on the island and they show up to help you fight. they're really clever and i'd like to hear more about how their culture evolves in future games (not like a whole quest, but maybe a book or some nerd who studies them or whatever)
TES 6: Solstheim 3 - The Journey of Nerevar the Dragonborn Riekling. Featuring the DLC to end all DLC - Skyrim Godd Howard Edition (an Xbox 360 port of Skyrim for next Gen console cause we lost all the master files to special edition). Oh, and here's a cardboard cutout of a pip-boy with a string attached to both ends. You're welcome.
I always assumed Reiklings were a shorter stocky subspecies of goblin, like they had the same ancestors but evolved differently. Like how the polar bear evolved differently from the grizzly but have the same ancestor species
I think they will eventually be worshippers of Haemus Mora, Daedra have a tendency to want to be worshipped like the divines as seen with the reclamations.
Tarlo The Boar Eeeeeeh, I don't see that happening... The only other Daedra that would have a claim on their island would be Hircine, but Rieklings would most likely hate him because they'd be a lycanthrope's buffet
"The Rieklings look exactly like the goblins in ESO - there might be some connection!" Aye, a pallet swap is easier than modeling a new creature and thus is the connection.
Maybe eventually somebody will civilize the Reiklings(Chief DragonBorn most likely) and they'll be able to slowly integrate into society, oh the thieves guild would love to hire them I'm sure. Also I can imagine something of Reikling paper boys or whatnot running newspapers about.
Def not a mouse Stop asking Nah. They would have to advance themselves and eventually join the other races on the world stage. That means they have to declare themselves a nation. That means they have to be able to declare anything. That means they have to understand how the rest of Tamriel operates
They will tail the tale of the great chief of legends, Drag en Porn, who came to them as an outsider, defeated their old chief and led the tribe to glory.
My head cannon is that my high elf vampire lord arch-mage who values knowledge above all and knows knowledge is power and is the proud champion of hermaus mora uses solsteim as her main base of operations and leads the cheiftan group of reikling to dominate all other groups of reikling to prosperity while being seen as they’re god chief of knowledge
I personally love these little guys. Take a team of them everywhere I go. Have to love mods. Some of the best fun I have had was using an alternate start mod I spawned on Soltheim. Then RPed as a Skaal that had been found as a child and raised by the Rieklings. I challenged the leader to honorable combat after killing the weak Nords that thought they were going to reclaim Thirsk from my Riekling brothers. This allowed me to rise to the leadership of the tribe. After that the tribe had many adventures with me traveling across Solstheim and Skyrim. Goora the Tall will go down as the greatest leader in Riekling folklore for her many battles alongside her tribesmen. Including facing Dragons, vampires and even some guy in Ebony Armor that thought he could challenge her leadership. Tribal Strongholds were built in many places. One the native Nords called Lakeview manor.
I really do like these little guys. I always thought they were a darker side of gnomes. Thanks for this video to clarify what they really are. I have a weird question for you though. Do you know anything about the weird pedestals you can find all around Skyrim on top of towers and mountain tops ? Why are they there ? What do they do ?
There's a Japanese artist that draws these really detailed, often grotesque pornographic images of video game characters. Quite disgusting, would not recommend. He has drawn a relatively tame image of the lusty argonian maid, however.
So this is purely based on the pics of the ESO goblin models you showed versus their appearance in Oblivion, but are Goblins devolving? There are other things I've noticed in the games that seem to be dwindling away, otherwise I might just ignore it as an inconsistency. The ESO models look to be capable of dressing and probably even crafting clothing and armor far beyond what we see in Oblivion, and they look taller and almost carry themselves like any of the intelligent races. Probably reading too far into it, but just a thought that crossed my curious mind.
"Probably reading too far into it." You literally said nothing, this entire comment means nothing, like fuck you need to learn how to speak if you really think that you just said something worthwhile.
Anybody that can nail me in the visor from half a football field away earns my respect. Barbarian or not. Not to mention that I was side stepping a boar rider when he hit me.
The Reiklings are adorable, I hate having to kill the hostile ones. At least the Thirsk Mead Hall ones are friendly. Additionally it's fun using Reikling Spears as arrows:)
There was this book about the Snow Prince in a tomb, the tomb of the Snow Prince. You get there in the TES3 Bloodmoon expansion via a quest given by (I believe) someone in Raven Rock tavern. After handing in the book, this quest giver says something about Rieklings, but I do not remember what exactly. In this upload, Camel talks about the Skaal and Falmer, but this particular info is missing. I always thought it was an explanation as to how the Falmer became Rieklings, but never really stopped to think of what I heard (read, actually).
Thanks Camel, I'd forgotten all about the Reiklings so I'm grateful for this video. I enjoy your "Detective" series as well as your vids showing us all the cool things in each realm of Skyrim.
I once had an idea that the Rieklings actually evolved from the Aelyids. I know it's far fetched but just hear me out; after Saint Aleysia (not sure if I spelt her name correctly) usurped them, some splinter groups survived and evolved into the goblins you see in Oblivion. I think it would have been interesting that soms ended up in Solstheim and had to evolve to survive the cold and became the Rieklings. Again, I acknowledge the fact that this is probably incorrect, but I had it floating around in my head for a bit and whilst watching this I thought I'd say it :)
You know given what occurs with goblins from Skyrim's creation club quest where a group of goblins were worshiping an orc covered in blue fruit juice and revered him as a blue god٫ i wonder what would happen if you appeared to rieklings covered in green paint.🤔
been binging these videos here lately and I gotta say, this is perhaps one of my favorites so far. I love the Rieklings, they're small and cute and full of personality. the first time I met them in Thirsk Mead Tavern, I spared not even an iota of a thought to helping them. I love these little blue goblins.
I really love this series, I can't wait to see more! I'd love to see a video delving into Vivec and CHIM, Sotha Sil and the Clockwork City or really anything to do with ALMSIVI.
Depends, older ones have a dull yet palatable flavour but are as tough as an old boot. Younger ones are sweeter and far more tender, meat from the thighs especially. The good stuff is inside of them, notably the liver, kidneys and heart, dice them up with some ash yams and some mushrooms and you've got an excellent pie filling. I've found the brain to be far too fatty and oily on its own so I usually chop it up and put it in a stew. If you dry the meat it has a flavour reminiscent of bacon (perhaps due to the amount of boar meat they consume) just make sure to use plenty of salt, otherwise you run the risk of mould. If you find a female riekling who is lactating and take the opportunity to harvest some milk you will find it to be incredibly sweet, sickly even. But unless your willing to carve your way through a whole tribe of the little pricks your prospects on finding a female are highly unlikely.
This is actually awesome, when the dlc first came out I was a little obsessed with them and searched for everything I could find, never thought I’d see such a comprehensive video
Can wee get a Skyrim detective episode about Forelhost, please? I've always loved that chilling story with the poison, the protesting Alchemist, the murdered children, the guy trying to hide under the bed... an I bet you'll find a hundred details I've missed!
Yeah, that ancient tomb in the southeast of Riften. It has a Dragon Priest (don't remember which) and a Storm Call shout wall. When you get there you'll meet a guy in officers armor - depending on your currant loyalty - who will tell you that it's important for the war effort that you go in there and find the tomb. It's a cool mini quest.
Does he? I never let him speak. When I saw he was wearing a uniform from the opposite faction when I came out, he got a stealth arrow in the back. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Beverly Ruiz miraak was the first dragon born during the age where dragons ruled man and he tried to revolt against the dragons and was completely defeated then the last dragon born stumbles upon him and hermaus Mora and once again vanquished him
I think its pretty amazing that even though we play as some great hero in TES, involved in monumental episodes in Nirn's history, theres still little tid bits like this. Even through all of that, these little guys still have their own story going on. In the background on a much smaller scale, these little guys are forging their own epics, their own histories and monumental ( for them) events that have shaped them as a culture. Personally i hope they survive to one day become a major race. I mean how cool would it be if the events in solsthiem ( if we chose the rieklings canonically i mean) actually lead to them expanding and developing more as a species. Idk about you, but i think itd be pretty cool to have played as the character in their history that granted this small, but surprisingly eager species the opportunity to establish themselves and grow into something more. Now thats epic.:)
I hope in ES6 we get to hear news of rieklings advancing. Like maybe a boom that says more rieklings learned to speak Cyrodillic and those rieklings started to be more friendly to people and then scholars interviewed them on their culture, language, and history.
15:44 what are you talking about? He is not the only riekling you can talk with in the games. There are two rieklings in Bloodmoon, Krish and Dulk, you can talk with as well. You even mention both of them later in the video ffs.
I have noticed a large amount of Dibella statues inside of their encampments. Likely doesn't mean anything given they're made out of gold and the rieklings probably just like shiny metal.
One thing I noticed is Rieklings seem to be particularly intersted in shiny objects. Even in this video, most of the stacks of objects shown have at least one silver piece you'd find in a more advanced society's kitchen. The Rieklings that inhabit the area with the Dwemer sruins or where that Dwemer ship is (forgive me, it's been a while since I've touched Solstheim) seem to particularly enjoy dwemer scrap and the cogs and other objects they make
Hahahaha I just noticed that the Rieklings have a boxing like stance. It looks really funny. I think they are really cool and I hope to see them again.
Don't things that evolve to adapt to a cold climate usually get bigger not smaller? Like, the creatures that lived during the peak of the last ice age were much bigger than anything we have now or that existed in the direct period before.
MakesYouSick well they would have to get smaller if they were stuck on the island the food situation would never support their numbers on that island if they stayed full size ? I don’t know I might be over thinking it
When I first saw the Rieklings worshipping the horse and cart my first thoughts were this is supposed to be a cargo cults. Something which, though talked and written about for sometime, usually by people who have no idea of that they are talking about, it has been shown that cargo cults have never existed here in the real world. But as this is not our world I would suggest that as their culture has so little of their own goods and so many things which they have found, or possibly stolen, then it looks very much like they have a cargo cult. Hence the worship of the horse and cart. Something from which they possibly stole goods from. The interesting thing here is that though the horse and cart can be found in Skyrim they are not now found in Solstheim.
Yep. Saw that. Easter eggs at Christmas. But him being Australian and having Christmas in the middle of summer I just put this down cultural confusion. He'll probably now mention something about cricket which I will ignore. My point in the second paragraph, as you probably saw, was that the Rieklings were cargo cultist, this being their religion.
anguishedcarpet. The question is do the people who do these things, such as build replica aircraft, do this a system of religious veneration, or are we, as so often, misunderstanding what they are doing? The term itself was first used as a term as a derogatory used by planters and businessmen in the Australian protectorate of Papua. Ton Otto in his article "What happened to Cargo Cults" debates the term cargo cult arguing that it does not refer to an identifiable empirical reality. Lamont Lindstrom states, having pointed out that the name is its pejorative connotation of backwardness since it imputes a goal (cargo) obtained through the wrong means (cult), whereas the actual goal is obtaining material goods and creating and renewing social relationships. In other words we re open for trading. So we again misunderstand other peoples cultures. Cargo Cult does not exist.
Big Blue except that these groups have ALL of the markings of cults, down to the enigmatic leaders and willingness to commit self-harm. You might be correct in a very pedantic sense that they aren't truly "religious" but they are still functionally cults. So again I say, come off it mate.
I must have been distracted. Out of nowhere I heard you referring to Skyrim's Dragonball DLC. My initial thought was "What in the modded wasteland," but now we all know it needs to happen.
Well, unfortunately, in English there is hardly such a thing as "pronounce it as it's spelled". Assuming that the word "Riekling" is germanic in its conception, it should of course be pronounced as you indicate. However, the diphthong "ie" is often pronounced as the letter "i", such is in the verb "lie", so it can be confusing to some.
Wait, there is a difference between Americans and Brits when it comes to 'th'? I know that in French and German it has an aspirated 't' sound, akin to its Indoeuropean roots, but how do Brits and Americans differ? Also are you talking about the voiced or the unvoiced variant?
Well, there are many different pronunciations of the Brittish Isles. To my knowledge, however, 'Thames' seems to be an exception in this matter, as common words like 'the' or 'theme' are pronounced virtually the same way in both Standard American English and Received Pronunciation ("Brittish English"). Accents of Gaelic influence are much different (Scottish, Irish, Welsh) and they're not what people think when they say "Brittish accent". During a trip to Ireland (or, as they call it, Eire) I found it hard to understand what the locals were saying, sometimes, particularly in Belfast.
im a time traveller from the year 2036, i can confirm its not ES6. just a surprise ESO expansion, but ES6 will take place in the same continent as this expansion. believe me my name is john
Not quite. Just tacking the most common last name onto the most common first name isn't good enough to be definitively the most generic, because first and last names are not independent of each other. A person whose first name is John, for example, is disproportionately more likely to have the last name "Smith", and less likely to have the last name "Li" than would be suggested by the ratio of Smiths to Lis in the global general population. Likewise, people with the first name "Muhammad" are disproportionately less likely than non-Muhammads to have the last name "Li", thus making the combination far more distinctive than just the prevalence of its components would suggest. The issue is further complicated by the existence of many cultures with naming conventions other than "personal name, family name", and by cultures that swap the order of those two. For example, it raises the question of whether it'd be more appropriate to combine the most common first and most common last (defined as the name that person writes/says first, vs the one they write/say last), or to combine the most common personal and the most common familial name.
me and my roommate were talking about this a few months ago and we came up with this theory that the Rieklings are actually the slaves of the Falmer, much in the same way the goblins were slaves to the Altmer. we figured since the Snow elves where more isolated then the rest of the elf populations they probably kept the tradition longer.
would love to see the rieklings as a playable race. maybe add a riekling specific class where you summon or call upon other rieklings to help you in combat as they are less powerful than other races.

Amelie Ruppert Forelhost?
Yeah, that ancient tomb in the southeast of Riften. It has a Dragon Priest (don't remember which) and a Storm Call shout wall. When you get there you'll meet a guy in officers armor - depending on your currant loyalty - who will tell you that it's important for the war effort that you go in there and find the tomb. It's a cool mini quest.
Amelie Ruppert Is that the one where he turns out to be a Thalmor?
Does he? I never let him speak. When I saw he was wearing a uniform from the opposite faction when I came out, he got a stealth arrow in the back. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Props to the Rieklings for being the only race to figure out that spears are kind of a big deal
skooma machine-elves
This should be cannon 😂😂😂
They're not a race of Mer, Wuuthrad doesn't do extra damage against them like does to the Falmer.
@@mutegrab666 It could be laziness on Betheda's part
6 minutes to explain something everyone already knew just by looking, I love it
Lore about septims and currency in tamriel, i think that'd be interested
I seriously love how you use the oblivion soundtrack brings back so many memories
They are comedy goblins, so says Skyrim For Pimps 🤣
They are correct.
+Camelworks I love the Rieklings. But I wanted to ask, have seen the new pillow made of corduroy? It's making headlines!
These things are literally my children, I love em
lord Kal I personally testify that those things are adorable
they're ugly and adorable at the same time
@@victimi6623 true
I saw the title and became curious about these little guys. I was not disappointed.
Maybe a lore video on Miraak and the Acolyte Priests
Beverly Ruiz miraak was the first dragon born during the age where dragons ruled man and he tried to revolt against the dragons and was completely defeated then the last dragon born stumbles upon him and hermaus Mora and once again vanquished him
Italy love94 Oh I know all about Miraak I was just suggesting him for lore video because there's not enough about him out there
I think its pretty amazing that even though we play as some great hero in TES, involved in monumental episodes in Nirn's history, theres still little tid bits like this.
They worship Santa
finally an explanation on rieklings I always wanted to look into them
15:44 what are you talking about? He is not the only riekling you can talk with in the games. There are two rieklings in Bloodmoon, Krish and Dulk, you can talk with as well.
You even mention both of them later in the video ffs.
MEGAPHONE MAN
Exactly man.
This video was awesome dude! You covered all the bases and gave awesome detail. Way to go
Snow Goblins as I like to call them
I have noticed a large amount of Dibella statues inside of their encampments. Likely doesn't mean anything given they're made out of gold and the rieklings probably just like shiny metal.
Riekling Riders were OP in Morrowind
One thing I noticed is Rieklings seem to be particularly intersted in shiny objects. Even in this video, most of the stacks of objects shown have at least one silver piece you'd find in a more advanced society's kitchen. The Rieklings that inhabit the area with the Dwemer sruins or where that Dwemer ship is (forgive me, it's been a while since I've touched Solstheim) seem to particularly enjoy dwemer scrap and the cogs and other objects they make
Falmer + Goblin = Riekling ?
I highly doubt the snow elves have anything in common with goblins and rieklings
Lol i think they are ice goblins
YEah cuz ofc mutated snow elves just went to Cyrodill and fked with gobs to create Reiklings... xD
Hahahaha I just noticed that the Rieklings have a boxing like stance. It looks really funny. I think they are really cool and I hope to see them again.
Maby the reiklings changed from goblins so much do to constant imbreeding from there small numbers there ultimately just deformed goblins
I hold out hope that there's a thriving pocket of them living on Bleakrock. I absolutely love these little devils & this video was amazing!
I don’t know I might be over thinking it
I think we're both overthinking it lol
Absolutely not. They might start growing larger but when the ice age first started there was a lack of food and giant animals started dieing off.
I love these little buggers.
I always have one as follower.
His name is rick and he weilds a skyforge two handed sword I gave him.
Its awesome.
Big Blue i thought that was a santa claus easter egg
Edit: nevermind, he said it in the video
Yep.
Cargo cults never existed? There are like half a dozen known, literally still active cargo cults lmao. Come off it mate
anguishedcarpet.
They also live in Wrothgar. We'll see them again. They're too awesome to leave out.
You. Good. Me. Give. Like.
I'm so glad that I found out about CamelToeWorks I love their vids. Just subbed! :)
They r a bunch of hobgoblins
That last scene with the Reiklings by the water, make me think of the Murlocks from WoW.
I never new what they actually wher.
you edited your message and it still ended up being 2/7th's nonsense, impressive.
I don't know if we're gonna see them again or what they are.
I just love them very, very much.
Notification squad 💯💯💯💯💯
I must have been distracted. Out of nowhere I heard you referring to Skyrim's Dragonball DLC. My initial thought was "What in the modded wasteland," but now we all know it needs to happen.
If you pronounce it as its spelled, it would be "Reek-lings"
Well, unfortunately, in English there is hardly such a thing as "pronounce it as it's spelled". Assuming that the word "Riekling" is germanic in its conception, it should of course be pronounced as you indicate. However, the diphthong "ie" is often pronounced as the letter "i", such is in the verb "lie", so it can be confusing to some.
That's what I think, too, which is why I pronounce these pesky creatures as "Reek-lings".
Someone should make a Riekling DLC or mods, I would love to play as a Riekling. Plus they are pretty cool in my opinion.
Early
But nothing good to say:(
Just say "Portals"
Geralt of Rivia?
Geralt of Rivia rip geralt
Lord Scats shut up
Geralt of Rivia lol omg what's your problem?
Midway I was waiting for the mention of The Lusty Argonian Maid tent.
Came slightly later than I expected
I heard ES6 is coming out next week
i already have it
im a time traveller from the year 2036, i can confirm its not ES6. just a surprise ESO expansion, but ES6 will take place in the same continent as this expansion.
believe me my name is john
My brain is stuck.
It is camel videos that make me feel a new es game is coming. I love you camel since before ESO
I really don't like rieklings. they are just annoying XD
8:14 that sounds like a job for the Skyrim detective
Anything at all from ESO is uncredible, the game has little to no relevance to canon lore, it's a 3rd party online gimmick.
me and my roommate were talking about this a few months ago and we came up with this theory that the Rieklings are actually the slaves of the Falmer, much in the same way the goblins were slaves to the Altmer. we figured since the Snow elves where more isolated then the rest of the elf populations they probably kept the tradition longer.
Elder scrolls online lore is not considered connon to the series
"We work closely with Bethesda to ensure that all lore in ESO is historically accurate & canon-appropriate." lol
would love to see the rieklings as a playable race. maybe add a riekling specific class where you summon or call upon other rieklings to help you in combat as they are less powerful than other races.
Hey! A cool idea for a future detective video is that in windhelm, that owner of the inn might be a secret imperial spy/supporter.
You can find Rieklings within Orsinium in ESO. Although little information is given there is still quiet a few of the buggers.
You sure? Can you name a specific location?
Thanks for sharing. It’s good to know more about these cute and dangerous little buggers.
