It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's a cash-grab! Set just days after the events of the first movie, Megamind finds himself in a situation where he has to pretend to still be evil for the safety of Metro City.

To be fair, penguins of Madagascar and Legends of Awesomeness shows weren't completely bad. They aren't as good as the movies, but they genuinely were pretty funny, especially for DreamWorks's movie to TV show standards.

@@nintendoboy3605 I believe so yes. Button takes place a while after the movie not like super long but I believe a few days while Doom takes place only 2 days yet a lot of the story in doom basically de-canonizes the button of doom.

If they were desperate to make this girl character, why didn't they make her Megamind's and Roxanne's daughter? Let those two become supporting characters and have this new daughter living under the shadow of her two famous parents, trying to make her own journey. It may not have been good, but at least they could have started fresh and keep the integrity of the original characters, while giving the new character her own arc.
Honestly, when I first saw the trailer I thought she was ACTUALLY their daughter.

Love how the writers confused Megamind being just socially inept but very smart with being just plain stupid.
Kinda like how the writers of Toy Story 4 confused Buzz being ignorant and oblivious about his toy status in the first movie (and misnaming smores in the second movie) as him being incredibly stupid when Buzz has proven time and time again in the first three movies that he is one of the smartest characters in the franchise if not THE smartest.
Its so frustrating to act like he doesnt know how electricity works when hes rigged up satellites, constructed armies of robots, built battlemechs, synthesized the dna of an alien demigod with total precision, and has an aesthetic defined by his electrical engineering skills.

I kind of have to wonder if this, and the TV show, started out as a totally different thing but then someone at DreamWorks decided they needed to resurrect the Megamind IP instead.

My daughters are 7 and 5 and along with their father and I, we all loved the original movie. We’ve watched it many times. But did we all hate this!!!

This is more of a Peacock problem than a DreamWorks problem
To be fair, the Penguins of Madagascar is one of the Dreamworks shows that didn't feel like a cash grab, and it could be pretty decent at times. Same with Race to the Edge. They don't even compare to this travesty.
5:32 Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 did the exact same thing, but that movie is absolutely amazing by comparison. It recapped the original with a few bits of new footage, and then went on to a new story with interesting ideas and visuals (at the very least most of the original cast returned, which is more than can be said for Megamind 2).

Fun story... I actually started to write a fanfiction to be a Megamind sequel. I think mine is kind of better.
My fanfiction was that Megamind now being official hero is joining what is this universes "Justice League." and then of course nobody at this Justice League trusts megamind and kind of just wants him gone.
While Megamind himself is absolutely star struck and keep thanking people that he gets to be there, while they all try to get rid of him of course.
Then kidnappings of all of these heroes starts happening and of course Megamind gets the blame, so now he has to team up with the leader of Justice League who really believes its him, prove his innocence, find the real culprit... who is of course the one guy that actually stood up for him at first, but was always intending to use Megamind as the scape goat. And finally save the day.
I know it's not the worlds most original plot, but I thought it was fun enough and I had fun and could write funny jokes.
Megamind calling Roxanne and lamenting. "They all hate me it's horrible! I don't know what to do to make them like me." "Did you tell them you cured Aids?" "YES!" (So yeah the joke here is Megamind did SO many good things in a short amount of time and the heroes really don't know what to do with that.)
"What have you ever done that is good?" "Erhm... Crime is at its lowest in Metro city for fifty years, I invented the Nutri Nuga bar that pretty much solved world hunger oh and last week I cured Aids." "..... What?"
And Minions sub-plot is that while Megamind is at the big heroes conference, Minion is at the side-kick conference where he as the only one keep gushing over the hero he is side kicking for and how much he loves being a side-kick now.
A lot better than this movie. Sometimes fans can create stories better than actual professionals. 😂

Little is talk about the fact that this movie is apprently set two DAYS after the first film. That makes the characther's downgrade even more insulting.
This is what happens when there's demand for a sequel to a movie that didn't need a sequel. The writers have no idea what to do with it, since the first film was the complete story, and so they shit out whatever they can to appease the demand.

The funny thing is Disney also made something like this with Stitch! The Movie which was mostly a pilot for the Disney channel series, and later on did have a Lilo and Stitch 2 (also a non-theater release too), so there's no excuse for Megamind and the Doom Syndicate movie to have subpar quality, and at the same time shouldn't have been hyped as a proper sequel IMO.

Megamind is a perfect movie about an alien genius who is conflicted on whether he's a bad guy or not I mean what else can you ask for??? That's as Earth-like and relatable as an extra terrestrial can get. Maybe you can ask for a sequel BUT if you make one you better make sure it isn't a doom syndicate, or as I like to say ''doomed piece of sh!!!t !!! There is no santa claus there is no easter bunny and as of yet there is NO proper Megamind 2. There possibly will never be one.

I know how to make this work, this film was one of megamind’s evil plans but it was so evil that he didn’t use it and scrapped it, but after he became a hero he released the flim to the public for everyone to see cause they love Megamind stuff. And then the city tell Megamind never to do that again.
I actually not only think but KNOW that the reason the dreamworks moon boy isn’t in the moon is because this “sequel” is not actually canon to the first/original film, so at least it doesn’t ruins the first masterpiece. About you do you think it’s canon?

Honestly Dragons race to the Edge was really good and worthy to be in the HTTYD universe. And surprisingly the Boss Baby show is better than the movie. Dreamworks you’ve made good to passable shows before! What the fucks!!!
I think Megamind is one of those movies that p much everyone loves and can happily rewatch. It didn't need anything after- once the credits rolled story was over and that was great. They just had to ruin a good thing, taking the Disney approach I see..

i have a love hate relationship with dreamworks. they make amazing movies that made my childhood. HTTYD being my favorite, even Riders of Berk, Defenders of Berk, and Race to the Edge is good.
as soon as i saw rescue riders and nine realms, i started losing hope. but one thing that i know about dreamworks is that when they make a shitty product, they come back with a better banger.
they are making a live action remake, though it seems they are going to do it right. with the original writer and director of the first movie is coming back for it. the cast even seems solid and decent.
all of this is just a long winded way to say, pls review HTTYD.

yes, it does bother me how they don’t really look similar, (especially snotlout), but for me it really depends on how they act, if they can portray the character well i have no problem with their appearance.
this is dreamwork’s first shot at live action, and the cast (atleast in an acting pov) looks decent. i trust Dean DeBlois.
@@GeekyDoodles I don’t expect it to be 1 to 1, but I expect the actors to at least look similar to the characters they’re portraying. Cast a girl with blond hair and blue eyes as Astrid. Get someone burly for Snotlout. While I can at least appreciate that they got Stoick’s voice actor back, he doesn’t actually look anything like the character. Neither does Gobber. Hiccup’s actor is…okay. He doesn’t really feel like Hiccup based on the pictures I’ve seen, but if he captures Hiccup’s dorkiness correctly then it could work.

@@GeekyDoodles It doesn’t affect the plot per say, but I’m a firm believer that if you are making a live action adaptation you should get actors who resemble the characters. The characters should still be recognizable despite being live action instead of animated. Completely altering their appearance makes them feel like different characters entirely.

I think that one of the reasons why Dreamworks didn't get the original cast back for this so-called "sequel" could likely have been because those celebrity actors may have thought that it would be too embarrassing to have themselves be involved with this low quality cash grab film.
