DreamWorks' creations are like Schrodinger's Cat. They are simultaneously both the best and the worst. They have a trailer for a movie about a robot that looks like it belongs in a Renaissance painting, and then they have Megamind 2 Electric Boogaloo. They are both reviving the animation industry and killing it
The animation in this movie reminds me of the animation of Miraculous Ladybug, I don't know how to explain it. I think its the backgrounds, like sure they're giant buildings and cityscapes, but they're... they feel empty. There's not shading or colorgrading, everything is just... nothing.

that little girl is just there to be a self incert for kids, that girl alone just tells you the audience they wanted to tatget with this cashgrab movie.
Take the blame on DreamWorks' television division, as they also made Boss Baby Back in Business, and The Bad Guys Christmas Special. They just pulled a Disney Direct-to-video sequels tactic by making 'Megamind 2' a pilot to the Peacock-exclusive series. The sequel isn't bad due to the cast replacements, rather it's the animation, character assassination, and writing. I can't believe Megamind 2 could surpass Shark Tale as the lowest rated DreamWorks movie...
Shark Tales wasn't that bad. yeah, it's a generic by the numbers animated film, but it wasn't terrible. It was watchable in my opinion. I haven't seen Megamind 2, but it sounds awful. But then again, I can't say I'm surprised. The first movie was built off subverting people's expectations while cleverly satirizing the genre itself. Unlike "Despicable Me" that was clearly aimed at kids while being sensibly mature enough for adults, "Megamind" was more of an adult animated film that was sensible enough for kids to watch if that makes sense. changing the tone of that to now making Megamind 2 appeal exclusively to kids, while retconning things about the first movie that take away from the characters from the original is ridiculous. Granted, we've seen retcons happen all the time that worked. For example. Picard never suffered much PTSD to where he got blood hungry around the Borg, even after he he was one for awhile in Star Trek. Yet, when it came to the film, "Star Trek: First Contact", they retconned that to give Picard more of an arc in that film. However, the reason that worked was because even if it contradicted what was established before, it still made sense within the continuity of the franchise. Here? It doesn't make sense. Megamind knew the "Doom Syndicate?" And he had a floating brain mentor that we never heard of until now? Uh yeah that completely contradicts a lot of things that was established in the first film that would require a lot to go through.
There's a short film that came out a year after Megamind released called Megamind: the button of doom that takes place after Megamind and Minion become heros of metrocity. And even though it is a short film it is 100% better than this hot garbage and in my opinion, is the better sequel. I highly recommend it, it's a great 16 minute watch
This reds like a fanfic written by a teenager, with the annoying gen z kid being their super cool super hip everyone loves her self-insert and the new bad guys being their super cool OCs.
Dreamswork shouldn't change Minion name to "Ol' Chum" just because Illumination own that name. They should've stand their ground, keep his name as Minion and make a good joke that poke jabs at Illumination. They do not need to bow down to anyone. Not Disney, nor Illumination.
Let me fix this in literally 5 minutes: hearing Metroman is gone, villains break out because they assume Megamind defeated him as a trick to get control of the city. Pick someone he di get along with so there is emotional stakes where he wants to keep relationship with them, but they're a villain and they're hurting people so he has to stop them. Add comedy of Megamind constantly telling them he's a hero now, but they think it's a cover so they 'play along' all over the top for a while. They 'fight other villains' together, but the friend-villain thinks it's just to gather them in one place for finall attack and takes over from Minion as 'doing the behind the scenes work' so there is conflict here, too (you can have Megamind try to be kind by 'using Minion' less, but Minion wants to work for him so Megamind has to learn to accept people wanting to be with him). Roxanne could easily try to be hopeful, but then it's obvious there is something wrong going on and maybe SHE gets to save him this time, because he got caugh off guard, but she knew and was preparing for it so has contengency plans. Then go with the show where he meets other villains, works trough different problems. You can either go brave and adress WHY people become villains! Easiest episode, have someone replicate making Titan, but they turn out to be good person.
@@QuietBorb Not really, because I don't say they were friends, I say 'he got along with' so they didn't like try to take each other out. Or you can just introduce new villans emboldened by Megamind 'killing' Metroman, being unwilling to disappoint them would still work as good emotional arc.
The first Megamind is actually severely underrated in my opinion, it deserved better than this. Wasn't Roxanne's and Megamind's relationship the core of his development in the first movie? Why would you mess that up??
Yeah, I know right?! I made another comment to someone else about this, but I sincerely believe if they were gonna make a dedicated sequel, it shouldve been more mature with even higher stakes, especially if DreamWorks was making this film marketed towards us now ADULT Megamind fans. Like for instance, Megamind feeling the pressures of being Metrocity's new hero and Roxanne is being a supportive loving girlfriend while Megamind is pretending hes not overwhelmed, then there could be a subplot of her finding out shes(oopsie)pregnant with his kid...and obviously she's hesitant to tell him because of knowing how much pressure he's already dealing with and confides in Minion to keep the pregnancy a secret until the time being(and Minion would act estatic at being an uncle) and at different points of the movie almost accidentally rats it out while also doing his best to support Megamind, and oh my goodness, Megamind wants Minion to keep his feelings of being under pressure a secret between him and Minion(and Minion sighs at all this secretive work he's now in charge of) To add even more stakes to this story, a new villain comes to town that could be more unpredictable than Megamind was in his past.... This sounds like a bit much, but since the first movie relies on emotions to draw the story, I figure this was the type of storyline to follow that gives these characters struggle and add more to their arcs with some funny dramatic moments us adults would definitely relate to Just because a movie was appealing to one generation doesn't mean you have to water it down and "baby'fie" it to make it appeal to a younger generation. They should've embraced a more mature approach, like I say.
Haha. Forgive this Megamind lore correction. I’m insane. All lighthearted. But Roxanne, I mean, she WAS a reporter, and presumably a really well-known one as they had her covering the Metroman Musuem event (a huge deal) AND she’s the one getting kidnapped all the time so like, the city knows her. But regarding a dream of being a big reporter that’s not a subplot of hers like at all whatsoever lol
It wasn't a subplot, but I figured he was just trying to emphasize that like... Roxanne is content with being a reporter and we have no reason to assume that she wants to do anything else?
How can you have a mime villain yet NOT MAKE HIM MUTE?? I guess the obvious reasoning is because "it's cheaper to just have him speak than to make the extra effort to invent a unique style of communication" But IT COULD'VE WORKED!! Excuse me for geeking out but a mime villain is such an interesting concept, they are quiet, can "act" as different individuals to blend in and their color pallet is perfect for slipping into large crowds. I know Carmen Sandiego had a good mime villain, he can sneak around without being seen and can make a really good "tattle tale" because no one will every know he was there. anyways, lost opportunity to have another mime villain but I wasn't expecting much from dreamworks anyways.
They could fix this by either reveling that the new Megamind characters are weird alien clones or the whole thing was Megamind's dream after he took some new sleeping pills
The fact that the commercial also tried to sneak in a mini-ad for the tv series as well is just the purest of cringe, they really thought this was going to be hot
Bro even the flops that Dreamworks made in its previous years weren't THIS bad, the whole thing nowadays with the "written by AI" schtick and CEO's only judging output by how profitible it'd be for them vs actual quality/passion behind a project is *extremely* tiring
the only thing i liked about this movie was the shadow guy on that note i actually felt kind of bad when the red magma man asked "why didn't you tell us anything?" after megamind put them in a cage it felt justified when they got angry about megamind turning on them like that i legitamitely feel like him and the shadow guy could have straight up had redemption arcs if megamind was honest about his situation from the beginning LMFAO
I think the thing about Nighty Knight is that he’s clearly meant to be a parody of the dark lord archetype, like Sauron or Darth Vader. Ironically, he strikes me as the only thing this mistake of a movie has that resembles what the original did with classic superhero conventions.
My question is, why did they remake all the characters to look different? Clearly they hired a less-experienced team of people to do the animation, BUT WHY DIDN'T THEY JUST GIVE THEM ALL THE ORIGINAL ASSETS???
There's an angle here with the prison break plot that i think could have been done in an interesting way. Its a damn shame they made this movie at all but its even worse that they didn't do this. Mega mind was raised by prisoners how conflicting would it be to have to bring your family back to justice. Nature vs Nurture. Could mega mind take the lessons he learnt in the first movie and impart them onto the people who taught him to be bad in the first place.
My mum, brother and I saw Megamind in theatres. It was a great day. At a point we had one of those standing cardboard posters of it in our house. We still quote it and I almost quote bits of it daily. It's a terrific film, one of our favourites... And even hearing you relay this sh!t caused me physical pain. I was already sad before from watching the trailer with you, and now I'm just depressed. Also, yeah, Bomb Voyage was the first thing I thought of too. This doesn't seem real and I would rather purge this from my mind and let it lay forgotten in the graveyard of failures.
A bunch of DreamWorks executives watched their grandkids one day and was like Megamind should be on a streaming service, but we should underpay everyone.
They are using the graphics of boss baby. Now, you might question me how I know that but it’s besides the point. This is true bc at 15:02 in the video the guy in front is the mayor from boss baby. Just a restyle.
Alright I've re-written the sequel in my head while watching this video so here is the breakdown of what really happened according to me Say it's a year after the events of the first movie. Megamind (MM) has, over time, proven his trustworthiness to Metrocity by helping with regular crimes and minor villains a-la-Incredibles style, both as a vigilante and as assistant to police. He is also the founder of a heroes league kinda like x-men but not exclusive to aliens/people with superpowers. Some of these people will feature occasionally in showdowns with minor villains. > One day, a New Hero (NH) of minor status comes to town, claiming to be from a few cities over, and sure enough people recognise her (i want a female villain hehe spoilers) and even Roxanne does a piece on her arrival (Rox loves her job btw she's a valued citizen). MM has the honour of showing NH around his lair and the city prison, boasting about his accomplishments and etc., but as it turns out, NH has heard his story and is something of a fan herself! > The pair work together for a while (with Minion!) in Metrocity. MM is (while not romantically interested in NH) enamored by her own tales of bravery and their mutual love of elaborate displays. NH is trying to effectively woo MM, thus making attempts to push Minion and Rox out of the picture. MM is a little too naiive still to realise that's what she's doing as he assumes she has the best intentions of sharing skills and experience with one another. >> The attention he's giving NH causes the secondary plot(s), where Roxanne is worried that she is losing to someone who seemingly has more to offer, especially since MM has less time for her now that she is both working more and NH is around. I kinda like the idea of a side character that is MM's biggest fan, but less of a girlboss and more a kid who acts like a kid (poss. heroes league programme kid), and they and Rox have funny squabbles over who is MM's real biggest fan (perhaps Roxanne borrows some ideas from side character to impress MM? before in the end ultimately realising there was nothing to worry about and no need to prove herself because she's already more than enough in MM's eyes). Additionally, we get Minion having a hunch that something is off about NH, and he conducts his own investigation, all while trying and failing to convince MM that she isn't who she says she is. This causes conflict because MM doesn't want to ruin his new friendship over his best friend being seemingly jealous - he believes Minion can learn to share him like he does with Rox. > NH slowly lulls MM into a false sense of security over the days/weeks of her being in town. He feels like they are somewhat kindered spirits as she shares her own woeful background of her peers misunderstanding her powers. Understandably, MM is moved and vows he will do anything he can to help NH be recognised for the true talent she is. There is an important moment where NH's face softens and she looks hopeful and young, like she genuinely believes him. Foreshadowing! Looks like she might even begin to regret manipulating this man. > Throughout the events of above, Minion has been lowkey stalking NH when she and MM are apart, noticing her slip money to sus people in dark alleyways and the like. We would have seen snippets of minor characters in prison or on the street where NH might introduce said character to MM as 'a friend'. Enough to be noticeable, but not enough to look significant at first glance. Meanwhile, Minion, with the help of our girl Rox, has been uncovering a conspiracy. NH has at some point in dialogue planted the seed of doubt in MM's mega mind that good and bad is a lot more nuanced than it seems, and throwing everyone in jail is perhaps not the right thing to do (this part needs work, motivation is a little basic here, but the gist is NH wants to break her fellow villains out of prison to wreak havoc and get her long awaited notoriety). She manipulates and convinces MM to aid her in breaking out ONE villain that she believes in imprisoned unjustly, and he agrees. > Minion and Rox try to talk him out of it, going so far as to have a massive argument and capture MM for an intervention, which he escapes from because he is of course brilliant and determined to stand up for what he thinks is right. Or, what he BELIEVES he thinks is right. However, on his way to rendezvous with NH, he starts to second-guess himself. MM continues as planned because he wants to show that goodness exists on a spectrum, and sometimes to do good, you have to be bad. Sadly, MM has been HOODWINKED and NH releases everyone in the high-security wing of prison. Ultimate betrayal - she seems upset to have disappointed MM. > MM rushes back to Metrocity to order a lockdown/evacuation, apologising to Minion and Rox for not listening to them. Big battle, MM and co. along with heroes league (who aren't terribly important to overall plot but some side character development would be cool) win of course, NH is remorseful and redeems herself by becoming part of a new rehabilitation programme where former villains learn how to harness their abilities/bloodlust in a way that is harmless or even beneficial for society. The end :3 It's far from a perfect story of course but I wrote that in 30-40 minutes and I like it better than whatever Doom Syndicate is (I may be biased). Anyway studios gotta pay their writers also if anyone finds my proposed synopsis interesting, maybe I'll write something for Ao3 xoxo
The animation seemed familiar to me and I couldn't put my finger on it, but then it cam up in conversation randomly with some of my friends: it looks like Back to the Barnyard! Everything is just that little bit uncanny and overexaggerated and off juuust enough to make it feel WRONG.
Saw this a few weeks ago on peacock and was INSTANTLY HYPED. I said “OMG WHEN DID THIS COME OUT?” And then got to watching it and slowly realized the mistake that was made🥲. The CGI was clearly dated, with a PENCIL THIN upscale veil around it. Which i was willing to look past, since the OG film released 14 years ago and the sequel had been in development hell. So MAYBE the dated CGI was due to that sorta like duke nukem forevers deal. But on top of that, the plot was something fresh out of a Netflix follow up series levels of bad, and i just couldn’t deal with it. Very tragic considering a true sequel could have been a huge sucess
I feel so bad for that voice actor since he is most likely just doing what he was told when it comes to his Megamind voice. He may have auditioned with something more in line with Will Farrell’s voice, and the execs were like “It’s good, but do this instead.” Or something.
If they actually remembered, "The Button of Doom" then I'm sure megamind would still have been in his white and blue outfit as well as with his stuff back as we saw from that short but I don't even think they brought that up

I highly recommend it, it's a great 16 minute watch
i personally didn't care for that short cartoon you're talking about, but it's definitely better than what megamind 2 sounds like.
Not Disney, nor Illumination.
u think THIS is the production team to do that?

Its so sad to see what they did to my boy megamind 😢
Easiest episode, have someone replicate making Titan, but they turn out to be good person.
thats also ignoring the whole plot in the first one that megamind is alone...
@@QuietBorb Not really, because I don't say they were friends, I say 'he got along with' so they didn't like try to take each other out.
Or you can just introduce new villans emboldened by Megamind 'killing' Metroman, being unwilling to disappoint them would still work as good emotional arc.
the animation is so cocomelon coded
The first Megamind is actually severely underrated in my opinion, it deserved better than this.
Wasn't Roxanne's and Megamind's relationship the core of his development in the first movie? Why would you mess that up??
Yeah, I know right?! I made another comment to someone else about this, but I sincerely believe if they were gonna make a dedicated sequel, it shouldve been more mature with even higher stakes, especially if DreamWorks was making this film marketed towards us now ADULT Megamind fans.
Like for instance, Megamind feeling the pressures of being Metrocity's new hero and Roxanne is being a supportive loving girlfriend while Megamind is pretending hes not overwhelmed, then there could be a subplot of her finding out shes(oopsie)pregnant with his kid...and obviously she's hesitant to tell him because of knowing how much pressure he's already dealing with and confides in Minion to keep the pregnancy a secret until the time being(and Minion would act estatic at being an uncle) and at different points of the movie almost accidentally rats it out while also doing his best to support Megamind, and oh my goodness, Megamind wants Minion to keep his feelings of being under pressure a secret between him and Minion(and Minion sighs at all this secretive work he's now in charge of)
To add even more stakes to this story, a new villain comes to town that could be more unpredictable than Megamind was in his past....
This sounds like a bit much, but since the first movie relies on emotions to draw the story, I figure this was the type of storyline to follow that gives these characters struggle and add more to their arcs with some funny dramatic moments us adults would definitely relate to
Just because a movie was appealing to one generation doesn't mean you have to water it down and "baby'fie" it to make it appeal to a younger generation. They should've embraced a more mature approach, like I say.
We can all agree the sequel was a mass hallucination and it never happened.
Best reviewer I know! I really hope your content keeps popping up in other people’s feed and you get the attention you deserve, man!
Oh n o-
The voices alone are
NOPE
The fact they make Megamind act like a jerk takes this 5/10 to a 2/10
agreed, his character is so bad in this, disrespectful to the original megamind
“Oh, that’s right… I’m falling to my death”
The true Megamind was able to foreshadow this atrocity…
The fact that the commercial also tried to sneak in a mini-ad for the tv series as well is just the purest of cringe, they really thought this was going to be hot
The Button of Doom is the one true megamind sequel.
What do you mean it's the one true sequel? It's the only sequel! There is no other megamind related things hahahaha (denial)
Still can't believe a well loved animated movie got Hotel Transylvania'ed
This movie is a TRUE INSULT to the masterpeice that Megamind

People are really going overboard with it
megamind looks like he lost his melonin
looks like some cheap foreign animation show being aired on disney
4th wall breaks? Week plot line? 1 liners!? They really tried to hoodwink megamind!!
We got MegaMid and Kung Fu Panda Mid. It seems that Puss in Boots 2 was a fluke.
Hey Kung fu panda 4 was fun even through it’s the weakest of the series it’s still fun
Personally I always saw DreamWorks as a mixed bag company. This is the company who made Shark Tale after all.
Megamind 2 isn't even mid, it's horrendous
Kung Fu Panda was not bad, it was boring but not the same DS that is Megacrap
Dreamworks has always been a mixed bag.
I truly didn't think it was possible for Dreamworks to fumble the ball THIS badly, it almost seems like it was intentional
your PFP pic though O:
Bro even the flops that Dreamworks made in its previous years weren't THIS bad, the whole thing nowadays with the "written by AI" schtick and CEO's only judging output by how profitible it'd be for them vs actual quality/passion behind a project is *extremely* tiring
the only thing i liked about this movie was the shadow guy
on that note i actually felt kind of bad when the red magma man asked "why didn't you tell us anything?" after megamind put them in a cage
it felt justified when they got angry about megamind turning on them like that
i legitamitely feel like him and the shadow guy could have straight up had redemption arcs if megamind was honest about his situation from the beginning LMFAO
Yippeee another Nighty-Knight fan
I think the thing about Nighty Knight is that he’s clearly meant to be a parody of the dark lord archetype, like Sauron or Darth Vader. Ironically, he strikes me as the only thing this mistake of a movie has that resembles what the original did with classic superhero conventions.
Nighty-Knight and Behemoth are the only somewhat good characters
Megamind: The Button of DOOM was a much better sequel than this, even if its only 15 in a Half Minutes long.
The duality of Dreamworks. Capable of being responsible for both Puss in Boots 2 and Megamind 2. Every peak has a valley I guess.
there is no Easter bunny, there is no tooth fairy, and there is no queen of England.
or megamind2
What's with the trend of good animated movies getting a sequel/series with the animation downgraded
Megamind The Button of Doom is more of a true sequel than whatever this so called sequel is.
My question is, why did they remake all the characters to look different? Clearly they hired a less-experienced team of people to do the animation, BUT WHY DIDN'T THEY JUST GIVE THEM ALL THE ORIGINAL ASSETS???
I'm assuming its to do with budget, the older models would've looked out of place compared to the doom shitdicate models.
Man, I would've LOVED that!
WHY IS JOSH BRENNER MINION HELP I was not prepared to be jumpscared by Donatello
14:42 Lol Roxanne & Megamind had a one night stand 😂🤢
My mum, brother and I saw Megamind in theatres. It was a great day. At a point we had one of those standing cardboard posters of it in our house. We still quote it and I almost quote bits of it daily. It's a terrific film, one of our favourites...
And even hearing you relay this sh!t caused me physical pain. I was already sad before from watching the trailer with you, and now I'm just depressed. Also, yeah, Bomb Voyage was the first thing I thought of too. This doesn't seem real and I would rather purge this from my mind and let it lay forgotten in the graveyard of failures.
The animation quality in this movie made me think they didn't pay the animators we- waaaaiiiiiittttt
I didn't know this existed til I saw a notification from you. Let me go back in time, the world was better not knowing
The could've shown us "the illiteracy beam" that was mentioned in the first movie but nah, tennis ball gun
A bunch of DreamWorks executives watched their grandkids one day and was like Megamind should be on a streaming service, but we should underpay everyone.
I was wondering why the sequel was so bad but its basically a backdoor pilot for the Megamind TV show

The end :3
It's far from a perfect story of course but I wrote that in 30-40 minutes and I like it better than whatever Doom Syndicate is (I may be biased). Anyway studios gotta pay their writers also if anyone finds my proposed synopsis interesting, maybe I'll write something for Ao3 xoxo

you are cool person
I find it funny how the number one thing people have been complaining about is the new voice of Megamind
I feel so bad for that voice actor since he is most likely just doing what he was told when it comes to his Megamind voice. He may have auditioned with something more in line with Will Farrell’s voice, and the execs were like “It’s good, but do this instead.” Or something.
@adventurekitty101 He's in other projects so he seems to be a good voice actor
I like Will but the voice is definitely overhated
I think it’s because he used to voice Megamind but in a game and he sounded more like Megamind than here
If they actually remembered, "The Button of Doom" then I'm sure megamind would still have been in his white and blue outfit as well as with his stuff back as we saw from that short but I don't even think they brought that up
As soon as I seen how the characters where moving 30 sec in I turnt that shit off 💀

idk whats worse, them ending this "sequel" on a cliffhanger or the actual first season of the show on a cliffhanger just so they can promote to watch season 2 when it releases
They renamed Minion to Old Chum to differentiate themselves from Despicable Me and the Minions since they have similar premises.
Why'd they wait 14 years? The movies were in development at the same time!!
Let's all just appreciate the original Megamind even more now for how much comedically genius it was.
You know, not to Appreciate it as a treasure chest of memes and actually Appreciate it as a movie for once.
In the future, whenever I find myself desperately wanting them to revive a piece of media from my childhood because it was so good and deserved to be expanded on, I’ll try to remember what they did to my blue boi and I’ll stomp that dream out.
Example: Like I know we want Danny Phantom back. But can we weather the consequences?
This doesn't exist. Megamind is a standalone masterpiece. I don't know what you're talking about. There was never a 2024 "sequel."
