Hey guys commissioner here! Therewolf did a crazy great job at absolutely nailing this song! It’s an original track obviously but hits both so well it’s gets the nostalgia running fro both series for me! Minecraft and Spelunky have been huge games for me growing up and are like the best games that I constantly go back to play with friends! Both series mean a lot to mean and their music is so iconic to me all the same and this track blew it out of water! Thank you again Therewolf for putting so much hard work into this and let’s not forget the artists for the just outstanding art!
As a huge fan of Minecraft. My boi Steve deserve all of the love he can get. [Lovable idiot! I'm proud of you!] That being said. Yeah, I don't know a thing about Spelunky due of me growing up in 2010s. However I can see Steve winning because his gears and creativity can help him out a lot. Plus, enhancement in Minecraft can be busted depending on the user. Not only that, Steve's armor are tough as hell. Diamond, Iron, NETHERITE!? All of that are tough in their own right, combine with enhancement. Steve is built different. Plus Steve also have a lot of items that can assist him in battle like the nether pearls, firework which can be uses as rocket, shields. And more. I don't know a thing about Spelunky but I think Guy will put up one good fight before Steve beat him. Also instead of the two attacking one another. I see this Track as both Steve and Guy going on a adventure and being buddies. I'm not a fan of vs battle or death battle anymore but I can't ignore that the fighters can be good friends if their personality aligns, and I see these two being pretty good bud. Beside, I see the climax that these two are facing their final boss together, and the ending is them using a boat to return back home. I'm a sucker of happy ending and friendship so this Track fits so well as a upbeat adventure!

As a Hardcore Minecraft fan , i swear , i never expexcted this Match Up , normally they put Steve against Agent Jones , Sackboy, Terrarian, or even Senku, im surprised nobody commisionated that before , i kinda love the fact they always find new MUs for my man Steve , BTW, Both the music and the art ARE AMAZING , 11/10

Wiz: Steve, the Main Creator Character from Minecraft. Boomstick: Guy Spelunky, the adventurer of the Mysterious Shifting Caverns. Wiz: When you go exploring, and creating big and new discoveries just don’t be like these creative explorers and go MINE AT NIGHT. Eh? Boomstick: (sighs) I understood that reference. He’s Wiz and I’m Boomstick. Wiz: And it’s our jobs to analyze their weapons, armor and skills to find out who would win… a DEATH BATTLE!
Now that's how you give an iconic character a vs track! You did a very great job, Therewolf. The piano, the Halland Dalarna reference, the feeling of both action and nostalgia, and how it sounds like a track you normally do. If I never heard this song before, and someone had me listen to it and ask me if its from Brandon or Therewolf, I'll go Therewolf From the music, from the CAC, from the chat, from the title (you misspelled something there), this was all made from love. And if your reading this, ASTA, I noticed the Technoblade crown, so great job on the art
I did specifically requests the Technoblade Crown and Twiggle’s first and Spelunky 2’s ever first Constellation. They both passed away and were some of my favorite UA-camrs ever and wanted to keep there memory even if in a small way through the art in this track!
While I have no personal interest in this matchup and the two franchises involved the track itself is rather enjoyable. It's very upbeat, makes me think of running around in an open field.
On one hand, total and painful agony at the fact that it isn't Terrarian VS Steve. On the other hand, Steve has a commission and it's quite a nice song. For one, I quite like the fact that, while I can definitely hear the atmosphere of both franchises in the track, I can't hear one specific reference track (or maybe there is for Spelunky, but I know nothing of Spelunky) which definitely gives the song an extremely unique identity while staying true to the characters. Another thing to appreciate is the progression of the song that's very comprehensible and easy to imagine. I can most definitely see the intro being over Guy Spelunky doing *whatever things Guy Spelunky does in Seplunky* and suddenly coming across Steve at 0:23 before the two begin fighting over a piece of mineral at 0:34 but still in the lighthearted way befitting of both franchises. After this it's quite easy to imagine the fight slowly progressing through cave systems and the like while the two fight both using their tools and their environment to try and defeat the other up to 1:36 where I imagine the two would end up around or above a lava lake, making the song turn quite intense and have a much darker atmosphere as the environment burns around them for a segment of the fight, only for them to return to a regular environment at 2:08, perhaps with Steve going out of the cave system with his Elytras somehow as Guy follows him doing *Guy Seplunky things* and the two arrive to the surface at 2:37. Here they'd resume and "end" the fight under a bright Minecraftian sun up to the "ending" of the fight at 3:09 where Steve thinks he's defeated his enemy, going on about his day until Guy appears again as the "arcade" notes come back up at 3:23 and the two have one last bout, this time much more serious as the two give out everything they have left and the song finally ends at 3:53 with one of the fighters being defeated. Of course I just came up with this on the spot so it's not very refined and once again I know nothing of Spelunky so I may have missed very important details there. Either way, overall the track, while not Steve VS Terrarian (a truly saddening thing), makes up for this tragedy by actually being really cool and getting across two distinct personalities very well. Of course the track itself sounds really nice too and makes use of Minecraft's "basic" instruments really well with a subtle use of electric guitar that doesn't feel overwhelming but instead accompanies the conventional instruments (particularly the piano which massively takes the spotlight in the song, as piano always do because pianos are awesome and you can't tell me otherwise) whenever it is needed. There's also the fact that, while the track never really leaves this "calm" and joyful atmosphere (apart from the aforementioned bit following the 1:36 segment), there's still shifts in it that definitely convey different emotions from a lighthearted friendly segment to a more intense fighting bit which I find really cool. Either way, while this track wasn't the track I wanted, I can't deny that for this matchup, it's one hell of a good track for sure. So amazing job as always.
I'd say 1:36 would be the mobs of their respective games show up, and Steve and Guy Spelunky fight them off while trying to escape the cave. At 3:09, I'd assume both of them die, but Steve's Totem of Undying revives him, then at 3:23, Guy Spelunky gets revived (assuming Spelunky's revive option doesn't revive him instantly like Steve's does) and then they both go all out due to neither of them having any more extra lives/revives.
I love how you can see the cosmic ocean in the fanart for the fight, which implies that it happens around that point, so they should be getting chased by an insta kill ememy around the 3 minute mark of the song 💀
It makes so much sense as to why they would fight in cosmic ocean too! It mashes multiple biomes together and throws in tough traps/enemies and has that jellyfish that chases after you after the three minute mark that attemptd to kill you, and there is no way for spelunky guy to heal kid fight because in cosmic ocean there arent any friendly characters, I would love for someone to make a video on this. Sorry for geeking out lmao i love this concept so much
Wait nvm spelunky guy could heal mid fight but he would have to lill other enemies to do so, since he uses an item that heals him when he touches blood, but he cant use this ability against steve since steve doesn't bleed.
Both are explorers who travel through vast caves and multiple biomes, defeating a whole bunch of different unique enemies and mini bosses along the way. They both go to multiple realms (The Nether and Hell and then The End and The Cosmic Ocean). Both games could be very hard (Minecraft’s Hardcore mode and Spelunky being generally known as one of the hardest video games out there) and both games take place in primarily blocky worlds! A lot of their equipment and items contrast well too like a Totem of Undying and the Ankh. Minecraft Steve possibly canonically respawns after every death and Guy Spelunky does actually die every time you die in Spelunky but it’s just that the cave of Olmec are so complex that “not even death itself can find its way.” A lot of players play Minecraft to get rich and get a lot of diamonds and ore and Spelunky encourages getting vast and vast amounts of gold to succeed as well! There’s probably more that I can’t think of rn but that’s a few
In my mind, while this is an incredible idea for a fight, it’s going to come down to Durability. Of Splunky’s health and of Steve’s items and armor. Sure you can get more hearts as you descend the cavern in Splunky by either finding a pretty lady or puppy dog, but Steve has access to potions and food and lest we forget that Totem of his. Meanwhile, while Splunky is limited to one main weapon at a time and has a finite has resources like bomb inventory to worry about, his bombs can become special like making them sticky so they will stick ti a target, and his main weapon never needs to reload if it’s a gun and never breaks overall. It’d be an amazing battle to be sure.

Guy Spelunky would have his Ankh maybe quite a few supplies and some weapons (official art shows he can story and carry multiple holdable items at once). However their items are what really determine this matchup. While Guy Spelunky can match a lot of Steve’s stuff and even use the Elixir to cure any of Steve’s potion status effects and also has a revival item, Steve has far too much can throw at Guy Spelunky and he would eventually get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of stuff Steve can fight with, like long distance with bows and arrows and the trident. Guy Soelunkys bombs could help defend against that but he would likely tun out of those first before Steve goes through his entire arsenal. Steve takes this but barely
