I invoked the Death Battle Curse with this commission. Within 3 weeks of it and my blog coming out, both Everhood 2 and a SMRPG remake were both announced lmfao
I love how the Forest Mushrooms leitmotif is used and mixed with Everhood. It all mixes together so beautifully
So glad Geno got a track, Super Mario RPG is really underrated

Quite an interesting matchup, altho from what I read of both characters it's also a matchup that makes quite some sense (wooden puppets actually controlled by massively powerful beings) so I'm actually liking the theme here.
And the song follows suit too, it's got a lot of very interesting things to it. It first starts very joyful and "classic" with almost 8-bit-sounding OST that only has a more "majestic" theme with the very background of the song that has a more majestic feel. This represents really nicely the characters as of course at the start of their games they're represented as simple wooden puppets with no heavy particularity and only someone that knows their lore would recognize their higher forms.
It's also interesting to hear the main chorus of the song (at first heard at 0:44) which is a much more epic-sounding OST which showcases the serious side of the characters in contrast of the more purely joyful one that's shown in most of the song. And of course there's the "teaser" of what's to come at 0:55 with the first "glitch" in the song which tells the listener that maybe there's more than meets the eye with this matchup (and it was done really well too because I really thought it was my video that bugged for a bit).
Also, it's notable that the glitchy parts up to the third arc of the song all happen during the chorus too which is a nice detail as of course in the less serious parts the characters wouldn't be fighting as heavily so no need to showcase their higher powers.
Then there's a shift in the song at 1:55 as we let go a bit of the joyful side to get more into the serious things which makes for a nice natural progression to the song and that also sounds nice in general. It nicely sets the tone for what's to come into the song yet doesn't feel like a major shift as it keeps the same energy and overall feeling as the rest, just as said above less joyful.
And of course I must also mention the full guitar segment starting at 2:49 which is just really good overall. It keeps the same atmosphere as the aforementioned more serious segment but feels much grander and intense via the guitar. It truly feels like a grand fight is happening.
Which of course makes one hell of a transition for the complete breakdown at 3:25 as both characters ditch their "shells" and fully ascend, making the song glitch out as their power overwhelm the track itself, causing a major glitch up to when they resume the fight. And it's also very interesting to note the small segment 3:46-3:51 which sounds like the main chorus being shifted and twisted in the background in a way that makes it seem like it's being "rewinded", not literally or at least I don't think so because I don't believe either have time traveling abilities but in a way that says "the real fight wasn't what happened before but what starts now".
And again this is something that fits as, when the song begins again at 3:52, we get the main chorus but that's been lightly shifted, almost in a way that makes it sound "reversed" to show that whatever is happening is between the same two characters technically but on a total opposite plane: no more are two low mortal puppets fighting, now two true ascended beings are battling on a scale fully incomprehensible for most people.
Altho I must admit that I'm a bit conflicted on the fact that the song finishes with an almost unedited segment from earlier in the song but it could be interpreted as a way to say that, even in their true ascended forms, those two are still at their core personality that they were before which is a nice way to end it. Also has the double meaning, given it's the ending, that what allowed the winner to win wouldn't be their raw power earned from their true form but from their humanity and personality they had as a wooden puppet which is a nice message. That or I'm interpreting it fully wrong and it has nothing to do with this, in which case ignore my insane ramblings.
Overall I didn't expect anything at all from this song as I didn't know one character in general and only knew the other from name but it ended up being surprisingly good and original to the point where it made me want to learn about the characters and where the glitchy parts came from. So I'd call this a massive success. It's a very good song that makes use of the "glitchy" trope of music in a great way as it really does sound like the song glitching out (which is hard in of itself to do right) but also glitching out in a way that still sounds good to the ear which is a damn miracle to have happen so well. So yeah, a track with a lot of personality that represents the characters very well and sounds good in general, what more is there to ask ? Amazing job as always with this.

I interpret the ending to be the entire thing to be erased or too glitch to be unplayable because spoilers
At the end of everhood, not including alternate endings I think, the game ends with the save file being too glitch up to be played and just sends you back to the save files being unable to play it. Well that's my interpretation of the ending song.
This is the 50th commission track (minus the lyrical track for Crippling Despair) that Therewolf has uploaded. That’s awesome!
I am a massive Everhood fan, a massive Mario RPG fan, ever since I first played Everhood in July of 2021, I have been searching constantly every day for remixes and covers relating to the game. Only coming into contact with a very short amount throughout several different medias.
Simply put, this was worth the search. Having heard Revenge, BTFM and Euthanasia Rollercoaster (With the stuttering) in the same song is perfection at its finest, thank you so much for this, I love this song a lot especially since Everhood and Super Mario RPG are in my top ten favorite games of all time.

Ignoring that this is a pretty rude comment in all honestly, I'm the commissioner and didn't ask for the main theme in the track at all. I don't think it fits the vibe I was going for at all, which is why I asked for Forest Mushrooms instead, as it fit better. Not to mention Forests Mushrooms is the track that's more associated with Geno regardless.
