And of course the absolutely great Thom Bell their music maker, producer extraordinaire. several others too The stylistics Marviin and Tammy etc etc etc
This LIVE performance needs to be studied in college and Universities across the country... Prestine vocals, razor sharp choreography and showmanship!!! It literally does not get any better than this!!! BRAVO to the Spinners forever!!
Yeah, me too! I always have the "biggest" smile on my face when Phillipe cut loose on any song. He is the showman of all showmen. He truly Loved singing and entertaining. OUTSTANDING!
In 1974 I went w/ my bf to his overnight Grad Night in Disneyland. The Spinners performed there. When I saw them I was literally transfixed. This doesn't even give a glimpse into how powerful his performances were. He was bigger than life & I couldn't take my eyes off him. I've been to many concerts since that time, but no one has delivered the performance he did. He danced all around the stage & interacted with the audience & never slowed down. He captured the entire audience. I was so sad when I heard how he'd had a heart attack & died but I remembered that performance & all that he gave to a bunch of high school students and thought: he gave, literally, everything he had. It wasn't a surprise, in a way, that his life ended like that. He had so much charisma & magnetism. It was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.
Wow - I've never heard his speaking voice - a beautiful quality..... and what a change from the croaking 'vocal fry' style so popular with some younger people nowadays.
Simply fabulous, I got Spinners pick of the litter way back then. And guess what, there was someone who made them stars......oh yes the Great Jamaican, Thom Bell, all these tunes plus those of the Stylistics, Salute to all, miss all the great writers, producers etc.
As a kid I remember the choreography that the Spinners did on this song! I attended many concerts by The Spinners as a kid because my parents were from Detroit and went to school with most of the guys in the group! We would sit VIP at the concerts that we attended! Memories having Bobby and Henry come to our house in Los Angeles! RIP to the guys!
April 2021 and will forever listen to my 2nd favorite group. I always have the "biggest" smile on my face when Phillipe cut loose on any song😁 He is the showman of all showmen. He truly Loved singing and entertaining. OUTSTANDING!
I think that Phillippe Wynne was the greatest star of all time. Not the biggest star. The "greatest" star, because no one had more ability to entertain. No one had more "it" factor on stage. He just knew he was the greatest and he went out and proved it.
Henry Fambrough the last remaining member, still can sing and dance, and in the words of Bobbie Smith, he keeps them real on stage. Also miss Pervis Jackson. One band with so much talent and showmanship combined together.
Back in a day when every member of a group had great vocals and showmanship, not just one the other or neither. Wish this was the case for my generation. but I’m luck my dad introduced me to these legendary groups of his era from a young age. Thanks dad 😁
We know about Bobby Smith and Phillype but I also loved how Thom Bell would woven Henry Farbrough in there also, he was a genius he seemed to always know what to do with the spinners vocal arrangments
jumpstreet, you put it so well, John “sounded enough like Philippe to get by.” John has a beautiful, strong voice. He had a hard time in the beginning, thinking he had to copy Philippe. The guys told him to chill out & just be John & he’d be fine. They did a great performance on Arsenio years ago when he talked about being brought in. He had sense enough not to try to imitate Philippe, ‘cause that would have been impossible. So sorry about his stroke. Glad he’s still here, though he’s ill.
I remember watching this incredible performance at age 27 -- and feel so blessed to find it here again after so many years ! The incomparable Philippe Wynne showed us what a, remarkable talent he was on this night. I truly think that no one carried the ELECTRICAL VIBE that this artist had. RIP, MR. WYNNE, and .... SPINNERS FOREVER !
Of all the soul vocal groups, the Spinners is the only one I've had a lifetime Mighty Love for. What a powerhouse - the vocals, the choreography, the writing, the arrangements.
That was excellent, Ahh man brings back such great memories. Philippe Wynn brought a lotta of energy and genius too such a great group and song I love it. THE Spinners .whata great time in music history. In all genres , there was just great music .Cant be duplicated.
GOOD GOD FROM ZION!!! PHILLIPE WAS SOMETHING ELSE. PROUD TO SAY I KNEW HIM AND WORKED WITH HIM WHEN HE BECAME A SOLO ARTIST BUT ALSO SADLY HE DIED IN MY HOME TOWN OAKLA ND CA .AT A CLUB CALLED IVEY'S
How GREAT are they ! The Spinners were a class act and true talent gentlemen !! This is what real talent is ! Bravo to the these great entertainers ! Had every album ! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
They are STILL performing. The lone original member, Henry Fambrough, is 80 and still kicking up his heels. Henry no longer sports his signature handle bar mustache, but still has that smooth baritone voice.
Phillip has that otherworldly personality and Bobby has that silky voice, fantastic. the lyrics on here hit so hard. have to appreciate their sense of humor as well and the improvisation, swapping between synchronized dancing and singing to a sketch play all in the same song. favorite part is always the end where he says "hold up, mighty love!! it's not going to end until i stop, and i want the party to keep going!!!" they have to "get serious" and drag him from the stage. this version is even the best, the producers of the show are for real fighting him to get off hahaaa!! imagine being that little person that gets to shake his hand when he walks in the crowd
Thom Bell, Gc Cameron, and Philippe Soul Wynne. These three men were instrumental and vital to the Spinners success. Thom bell pioneered and made the Spinners sound. He added the lush rich orchestra and the beautiful and talented background singers to the mix. it was truly a beautiful marriage of talent.. Bell along with his talent and prestige along with his work ethic made The Spinners into superstars. Gc Cameron gave them their very first million selling record in 1970 titled Its a Shame. And it put The Spinners on the soul map. It was their very first gold record. Even though Gc Cameron was leaving the group for a solo career at that time, what he did next one could say turned The Spinners fortunes and their careers completely around. Gc Cameron introduced to The Spinners and the world one of the baddest, most soulful, most energetic, soul man ever to be recorded on wax. The ad-lib king, the one who just couldnt stop giving the people what they wanted, The one and only Philippe Soul Wynne. The Spinners even to this day and year 2022 are still enjoying the fruits of labor from the hard work and dedication from these 3 soul brothers. Thank you guys for helping make The Spinners great. The Mighty Spinners music will live on forever.
PHILIPPE WYNNE was the Truth...Crazy vocal range and gifted with the word play in his adlibs......especially at the end of Ghetto Child and Mighty Love.....Skipping around and having Fun on the Stage....pure Showmanship.... #detroitspinners
Excellent talent! I remember hearing part of this song on the radio years ago, and didn't know what the title was or who was singing it. I just found out today that it was "Ghetto Child" by the Spinners, while watching another of their concerts on UA-cam. I found the whole song and listened to it, and was deeply moved. I liked hearing Henry and Philippe sharing leads on this song. I will always love the Spinners music!
I love the Spinners! John Edwards was a great replacement sounding close enough to Phillipe to get by. They haven't been able to replicate the sound of Wynne or Edwards with any other person they've tried but they are still fun to see live in concert.
Those boys were bad and STILL not getting their credit. And this live vocals. They should’ve been in the Rock and Roll Hall of Music years ago. They had hits!!! Disgrace!!!
I hear you. But, Soul & RnB great Acts need their own Hall Of Fame. They don't have to wait on The Rock n Roll Hal of Fame. Black people recognize them and many many many other great African American Artists have contributed to the music world.
Mylo, please make sure to vote for the Spinners DAILY starting NOW through Friday, April 28th so that they get inducted into the 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

What a great video ~! These guys were special...This song is special...They danced so well together, also... What happened to this sort of Entertainment, & Music ?????
Phillipa was so handsome. And SANG HIS @$$ OFF, ALL THE WAY OFF. TALENT ALL OVER AND ALL IN HIM. IT WAS A SAD DAY TO LOOSE HIM. THE OTHER SHORTER GUY COULD SANG HIS A OFF TO, MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT HIM. I WAS A TEENAGER WHEN THEY WERE ON THE SCENE. MY AUNT HAD THIER ALBUM ON WHEN WE GOT TO HER N MY UNCLE'S HOUSE. THANK YOU FOR TEACHING ME ALL THAT YOU DID, I'VE APPRECIATED IT ALL MY LIFE. WE'LL MEET AGAIN SOMEDAY. 💋💋💋💋💋.
I was soooo Lucky to see them in London at the Hammersmith odeon, I think, with the Four Tops. It was a fantastic concert and watching this brought the memories back. Wonderful songs, Brilliant group forever one of my favourite groups and phillipe 'soul' Wynne such a great underrated singer.
RIP Henry, last of the great Spinners
Amen!
There has never been another group like The Spinners. Every one of them could have been a lead singer.
Ok i’m superiorly convinced that there needs to be a movie done about The Spinners
Absolutely
And of course the absolutely great Thom Bell their music maker, producer extraordinaire. several others too The stylistics Marviin and Tammy etc etc etc

They must have been in fantastic shape to be able to sing while doing all that dancing.

What a show!😊
Star quality at its finest hour. 👌
I swear that was the best live performance of the two songs I've ever seen. Just a pleasure to witness greatness.
I love it when Phillipe cuts loose

Wow - I've never heard his speaking voice - a beautiful quality..... and what a change from the croaking 'vocal fry' style so popular with some younger people nowadays.

This is my most favourite song ever❤
And the showmanship!
Listen to the WORDS - they had meaning 👏🏾👏🏾
What a pleasure and awesome career playing keyboards with The Mighty Spinners. Thanks for supporting my music. Rodney Stepp!
BLESS YOU! I'd have loved playing any instrument I can play for the Spinners! I'd be happy to play bass for them to this very day.
I appreciate your playing ❤
