Thanks for watching! If you enjoyed feel free to subscribe. This list contains my favourite 5 speeches. There plenty of others that could have made the cut and it was very difficult to narrow it down. If you disagree with my list make sure to debate in the comments below 👍
I agree with number 1, that's still one of my favorite speeches. The rest of the list I'd change though. 11's very first speech with all the visuals of his past incarnations before he finally emerges from the face of David Tennant wearing his own costume for the first time. The Speech 12 gives to the Master and the Mistress which is really the only time he really felt like the Doctor to me. The Pandorica Speech. And since I can't think of another one I guess the Zygon Speech can stay on there too.
"Good men don't need rules. Today is not the day to find out why I have so many." Two sentences that shows just how aware he is of what he could unleash if he so wished.
@@potheadpalsentertainment161 To think we saw a mere glimpse of The Time Lord Victorious. Truly terrifying to think what The Doctor is truly capable of.
"don't play games with me, don't ever ever think your capable of that" one of my fav matt smiths lines wen't from happily dancing around the tardis to insanely serious in a matter of seconds
@@bas42946 He also usded this line (10) against the Vashta Nerada (silence in the libraray): Don't play game with me... You've just killed someone i liked, that is not a safe place to stand.... (something like this). It was cold, terrifying yet... comforting.
I wish they added the rest of 11th’s regeneration speech of when he was in the tardis. It always made me cry, especially “I will always remember when the The Doctor was me”
pretty sure the best speech was: "Whatever you've got planned, forget it. I'm the Doctor. I'm 904 years old. I'm from the planet Gallifrey in the constellation of Kasterborous. I am the oncoming storm! The bringer of darkness and you ... are basically just a rabbit aren't you? OK, carry on. Just a ... general ... warning."
Chinny (11th): yes I want to go to the tower with my co-conspirators sandshoes and grandad. Grandad (War): grandad!? Sandshoes(10th): THerE nOt SanDshOeS! Grandad(war) yeS tHeY aRe!
and this is why these three men will always be The Doctor to me. Tennant, Smith, Capaldi. you couldn’t rip the Doctor from their hearts if you tried, their performances were SSS+ tier.
@@djpunyer8762 Eccleston was great definitely a good Doctor, but (maybe its because he has only one season) he is not on the level of Tennant, Smith and Capaldi in my book, and this his doctor didnt have this chatting fiber, he was talking sure but it didnt have the same impact Tennant, Smith and Capaldi could have ps : I havent seen Jodie's era yet, so I cant compare her to others
@@Martin-dx6qr Eccleston's run was short, but memorable. Especially in the episode "Dalek." "The Daleks have failed! Why don't you finish the job, and make the Daleks extinct? Rid the universe of your filth! Why don't you just *_DIE?!"_* He was so emotional, and so broken from the time war, and you BELIEVE he's a broken war survivor. That's honestly what makes Rose a really special companion-no matter how many times he either tried to push her away with some "stupid ape" comment or "for a human" comment, she stuck around. She's a solid companion.
Some of us live that statement. Keeping yourself on a tight leash because you know what can and will happen if you let it slip, and not just a little bit.
R.I.P Bernard Cribbins, the grandad to England. When Wilfred says goodbye to the doctor at the wedding breaks my heart every time and that was all of us when we heard about his death, waving him off. Godspeed.
I loved ten's speech to Wilfred. Literally every word he says is 100% true. Wilfred is just an old man close to the end of his life and ten could do so much more good with his life than Wilfred could possibly do with his remaining time. He has also done so much good that he has more than earned someone else sacrificing for him for a change. He also knows that he could never live with himself if he let Wilfred die for him.
This is also his redemption for Waters of Mars where people were doomed to die and he broke the laws of time to save them. He could have let Wilf die but 1) he’d regret it and 2) he knows his role as the doctor is to save people. We love the doctor because even though he can regenerate he doesn’t act invincible, he still treats each regeneration like dying.
And the fact that he knows he hasn’t got a choice, it’s not him struggling to make a decision whether or not to save wilf. The second he hears the knock he KNOWS it’s his death sentence. Even in the end, he knew he wouldn’t do anything other than save wilf because how could he?
I just wish they had kept the knock in that scene they showd. For any that don't know, The Doctor was told "He will knock 4 times, and then you will die" by an actual soothsayer in the middle of these specials, and does everything he can to stop every sequence of 4 knocks for hours of screen time to delay his death. Then finally, Wilfred knocks 4 times to get the Doctor's attention
My favorite doctor moment so far. I wasnt too big on the episode when i saw it, but that speech and that moment is my favorite speech of all time of his.
Can you imagine how much his heart broke when he realised that his 'death' came not from his enemies but from one of his closest and most beloved friends....
Murray Gold deserves SO much credit for the music behind the Akhaten scene and many others… This man was the musical director of “Doctor Who” from 2005 to 2017 - he gave us the songs of Akhaten, the Ood, every intro song variation during that timeframe, the River Song theme… I cannot stress enough how important his contribution has been to this show 🎶💕🙏🏻
Yes, like ol Dudley Simpson in the 70s with his atmospheric and creepy music in Blakes 7 and Doctor Who. The first appearance of Davros in Genesis of the Daleks was greatly increased in tension, fear and horror by his music. Murray Gold was the same, giving the show a whole identity for a new generation. Then Chibnut got rid of him in favour of an tone deaf idiot with a synth and a fixation on dustbin lids for cymbals....I have never heard anything that bad. And its worse as Murray Gold was so good. Where could you go but down? And that is what they did, every single thing that was good in the show was wrecked over the course of the first Chibnall season, from the Doctor, to Script and Stories, acting and music it all went in the toilet. And there desperate attempt to fix and turn it around is to bring back RTD. And if things were so amazing they would not have needed to do that at all.....I hope they turn it around, but I wont be watching, they lost me as a viewer for good. I have no desire to see a Tardis with an openly gay doctor and various other trans actors and drag queens in tow.....its just too much....
He is very deserving of the name "Gold". He's incredibly talented, and you can feel his dedication and passion in his music. No matter how many times I watch this show, the music and performances always knock me off my feet. The writing is mostly good, although there are some bad episodes (in my opinion), but I absolutely adore each of these Doctors
I love the Akhaten speech because it carries a double meaning. "Oh, you like to think you're a god. You're not a god, you're just a parasite, eaten out with jealousy and envy and longing for the lives of others. You feed on them, on the memory of love and loss and birth and death and joy and sorrow!" It's so powerful because the Doctor understands that he is a parasyte, as well, and is speaking as much about himself as he was Akhaten.
Skagkiller1230 If I remember correctly, he was the one who killed the rest of the Time Lords, by his own hands or by an action he took I don’t remember, but he did it in a past life, The Ninth Doctor if I remember correctly. He alone is one of the most dangerous beings in existence, and has seen things that would drive any other being to madness, and committed crimes that nobody could punish him for, because there are no punishments that could fit the scope of his crimes, and as stated by the 12th Doctor, has killed so many people that when he closes his eyes, hears so many screams that he can’t even count them. Safe to say that PTSD doesn’t do it justice.
That line. "Ive lived too long". He realized he overstayed his regeneration. He became timelord victorious, he forgot who he suppose to be, the doctor. He began to not care anymore. Its time he leaves. No better way than by the hand of his friend.
Overstayed his regeneration isn't really an easy term to use for tennant's doctor when you consider Smith's likely aged a couple thousand years by the time he regenerated
Capaldi´s speech is just different than the rest. The RAW emotion, the actual pain in his voice. I am yet to see a more impressive performance in a movie or show. Every time I hear that speech I start crying because he portrays The Doctor´s pain perfectly.
@@83nuvola Tennant’s still my favourite because he’s fun. I started Capaldi and didn’t like the change and stopped watching for a bit. Came back later, and respect his Doctor so much more. A little life experience/pain and I understand his Doctor so much more. Brilliant acting/portrayal!
@@samairborneshepherd Tennant's doctor was not just fun: it was also portrayed in a great way by a great actor, despite the writer's ability not always on par with him. Capaldi to me added not just pain, but depth and experience, both as an actor and as a character. I liked that these two things matched. A more experienced doctor, with centuries of good and bad experiences, portrayed by a definitely more experienced actor: i am not talking against Tennant, but Capaldi played an episode where he was the only person on screen, and carried on his shoulders more than one episode that would otherwise be just poorly written. Also, he was able to put all of this together with a character who was still able to feel the emotions as strongly as a young man. It's easy to get old, experienced, and cynical, and sometimes Capaldi's doctor could have looked more cynical than other doctors. The truth is he was just disoriented, but despite his older appearance he had an immortal young spark inside him, so strong that soon it started shining, despite whatever happened inside and around him. 12th is my doctor.
Eleven’s Akhaten speech always gets my eyes welling up with tears. Matt delivers the speech with such believable conviction behind his words, you can feel the Doctor’s pain as he relinquishes his memories. He is my favourite Doctor, because I see so much of myself in him.
@@Robertl-xz6yl matt was a great actor his writer just didnt go in the same directions as past writers or the same style i think (this is me trying to recall from years ago) but matt himself was a great doctor.
11 is an interesting doctor because he acts happy and goofy most of the time, but occasionally he shows his real feelings. He shows anger, self loathing, regret, and extreme sorrow. His personality is really more of a mask. Edit: Holy shit this is the most likes I've ever gotten.
The man who regrets become the man who forgets, 11 used humour and fun to pretend as though the timewar never happened. 12 was the most complete incarnation of the Doctor, Capaldi's Doctor is the version of himself that doesn't hide who he is and what he's done. He accepts himself, for better or worse
@@CommodoreMudkip I always kind of wish Capaldi had better scripts to work with. He's one of my favourite ones .. but in terms of episodes he doesn't really have the same high notes as some of the others.
@@salm-wt3wm his last two seasons were amazing. It's a shame they found their stride so late, because when it worked, it was some of the best television ever.
11's catch phrase was Geronimo but honestly he said "Well come on then!" a lot as well and I love it. 10 was out there being the on coming storm and 11 was the one that challenged everyone to come get some.
Tenth was such a hero to me. Kind, just and will break the rules everytime to save someone...the only thing that could kill him could never be an enemy, but a friend. That's the thing about kind, smart people...they're never in danger of people who hate them, only the ones they love because the more you care the more you can hurt.
I think Ten said something along those lines once when he was talking about his companions. Something like “Some leave. Some move on. Some forget. In the end, I suppose, they break my heart.” The writing. I swear. Even just the simple “I forgive you” to the Master, after EVERYTHING. Ten is most definitely my Doctor as well.
Ten-nant will always be my favorite Doctor. Smith's run had some absolutely amazing and exceptional scenes (such as "And you are LATE FOR MY WEDDING!"), but Tennant really truly embodies the Doctor for me. I'm really looking forward to seeing him reprise his role.
What I noticed with Wilfred, is, I think, he came closest to a father figure that the Doctor ever had. The one who comforted him and was there for him when the Doctor needed a father who could tell him its gonna be alright...
time lords have no parents they use looms to reproduce The doctor is the only one had a father because of the Other (he was around rassalon and omega's era and he is the doctor he jumped into the looms
@@Mosdra_Kazuma oh please, if youre going to use a piece of original fiction as a basis of fact you could have anything! Time Lords have family just like humans
Rory's love for Amy - that's how it's supposed to be. It's an awesome, huge, completely impossible to understand unless you've truly been in love that much yourself. It's exactly how I felt about my husband. Rory was amazing.
"No-one else will ever have to live like this, no-one else will have to feel this pain! Not on my watch!" This gets me everytime, I've made this my motto of dealing with my abusive past
Basically what I say when dealing with my past. I won't be like my parents to my children. I won't put them through the things I had to go through. Break the cycle brother.
I get so emotional with that line. It reminds me of Robin Williams, and how sad/hurt people will try extra hard to help/support others so that they don’t hurt like they do. 😢
Idk, you can see pictures of Smith being sad and tearful after they filmed his last scene. Only other person I know that cried at the end of their time of being the doctor was Capaldi.
I miss Christopher Eccelston, crazy and deeply sad, trying to run away from heartache and loneliness. No matter what .....his attitude was: The show must go on.... and smile!
The 12th Doctors Zygon speech is so great, not only because you get a good glimpse of the Doctor's PTSD and his guilt thereof, even though 12 knows he saved Gallifrey, he still spent countless lives thinking he hadn't, which still left it's toll, and Clara's reaction. In this scene Clara is seeing the War Doctor in him come out for probably the first time since the 50th, and she understands him more than anyone else there, so you can tell that she feels the same way the Doctor does, and that's pretty sad.
That's the thing about PTSD, it doesn't really matter if the doctor saved Gallifrey or burnt it from existence because he believed for so long that he was not only the last of his people but that he had destroyed them all. Certainly knowing that he had instead saved his world from destruction was a massive weight off of him but it still left a deep impression on him. PTSD affects you in so many ways and it's not something that can easily be brushed aside.
@@LordTKIIClara is still there, two Zygons are holding her in the scene. You can tell if its Clara or Bonnie by looking at Jenna's hair. Both characters have different hairstyles.
Wilfred is a hero. He may have been confused about everything, but he stayed with the doctor, comforted him, and was willing to give his life to save the planet.
The thing I love about that bit and about Wilfreds character is he didn’t even get stuck because he was trying to save the planet, not at first. He was willing to give his life to save the Doctor but he got stuck because he was saving one other person. He saw another person stuck and didn’t hesitate to try to help them. Wilfred was a fantastic character
and to think his character was originally planned to be a one off. Love the man to death; he's one of those characters you can count on to do the right thing, even if it it means he gets himself into some trouble. Probably my favorite scene of his was when he shot the Dalek in the eyestalk with an egg. Man had balls of steel
'This is what I get, my reward. BUT IT'S NOT FAIR!' That line hit me. The doctor wished he can get more out of his bodies and his lives, wanting to be happy just for one second.
Seeing number 1 performed live with a choir and orchestra with Matt Smith’s speech reverberating in the theatre is an experience that still gives tears.
I know people get upset sometimes that Ten has such a dramatic speech about dying and how they hate his final words, but it's really perfect for him. He just needed someone to understand how he was feeling, all his friends were gone. I really love the look he gives Wilfred when Wilfred said to leave hi. He never would, he knows he never would
I love how most people talk about Matt Smith and David Tennants speeches. But no one really touches on Peter Capaldi's. His speech about how wars are all the same, they all end the same and there is no way to solve it unless we just talk nearly made me cry and still nearly makes me cry. It tells us about the truth of our reality. Even the fictional creation of a genius realizes it. So I shall just say, lets listen closely and lead by the example of the 12th Doctor.
@@charlieharcombe7585 that was the first time his speeches broke my heart. Because you understand his understanding of his actions during the Time War. He believed he personally killed his entire race. That changed later, but never mind that. He saw his people in Jenny and losses her too. Just imagine that. Losing everything and still showing mercy
Capaldi's Zygon speech, it's perfect. it shows apart of the Doctor that's ancient, aged and tired. Capaldi wanted to be the Doctor as a kid, but damn in my opinion he's either the only one, or one of the few who became the Doctor with his performances, others act, but he did something else entirely. I miss Capaldi.
Tennant's final speech always gets me, doesn't matter how many times i've heard it. The 10th doctor was so full of anger, sadness and regret, he portrayed it incredibly well
Sadly a lot of people didn't get that about him. If they had listened to Smith Doctors regeneration statement they'd recall him very pointedly stating the how the time for fun and games was over, it was time for him to get serious and get down to business. Peter said the older, I'm done taking your shit Doctor perfectly I think
The best part? Jenny’s actor and Tennant are in real life married, and Jenny’s actor is also the daughter of Peter Davison, the Fifth Doctor. The Doctor is not only his own father in law, but married to his own daughter... *sweet home Gallifrey, where the TARDIS is blue!*
They weren't married yet. Georgia Moffett, daughter of Peter Davison (the 5th Doctor), met David Tennant (the 10th Doctor) in a 2008 episode called "The Doctor's Daughter," where she played the 10th Doctor's daughter, only to later date Tennant and marry at the end of 2011. But yes, in a way, the Doctor is his own father-in-law.
@@reldridge86 wanna know a stinger though? David and Georgia's son has two favourite doctors. His dear old papa, and Tom Baker. Nobody else. Not another soul. His grandad's ego must be so bruised
12's speech is so underrated. His take on war is spot on. When they fire the first shots they have no idea who is going to die. And then all the sides to a war will always have to do what they always had to do from the beginning: sit down and TALK. Absolutely brilliant and truthful speech.
@@WigleyboyHe does it on purpose though, he's making fun of them for not taking it seriously enough by acting like a gameshow host. I really like it personally. Like he's manic with how little they were understanding what he was saying by that point
And of course, we all know that he's talking about the fez that Amy ripped off his head and tossed for River to shoot, and also the cowboy hat that river shot off his head.. Boy, what has River got against hats?
The third one is so heartbreaking. When The Doctor knows he's going to save Wil but every conscious fibre of his being is furious at his own nature. He wants to do so much more, fight against himself, but he knows he can't. He knows that if he leaves him there, if he leaves that one old, insignificant man to die, then he will never forgive himself. In the end, he never really had a choice. He's The Doctor. He's lived too long. And Capaldi. Oh Capaldi. Nobody channels emotion like him.
Yesss ! People that finally get it @Ayla Alya ! Like you can tell from the very start that he's going to save wilf there is no doubt about it, but at the same time he's going through the stages of grief of his incoming death. And the thought that even of it's just a small part of himself that truly wishes he could leave Wilf behind, that that little bit is far too much, he cements it to himself that he really has lived too long
@Ayla Alya I think it's all those things and more. Wilf was more than a father-like figure, he was everything The Doctor admired about humanity. Brave, considerate, supportive, compassionate and selfless. I think The Doctor saw the man he tries to be every day in Wilf, and that letting him die was tantamount to letting that ideal die in himself too. That was unforgivable.
"I've seen fake gods and bad gods and demi-gods and would-be gods. I've had the whole pantheon. But if I believe in one thing… just one thing… I believe in her!"
The speech that they forgot on this list, is the one where Matt calls Clara on the TARDIS phone telling her to be patient with the new doctor because he's scared.
My favorite speech that isn't on here is the one that 12 gives right before he regenerates. I just love how he's completely alone in the tardis and hes giving all of this amazing advice to someone who he'll be in the future. And then everything that he says actually comes into 13's time. She follows each piece of his advice to the tee and its beautiful
i actually love that scene because of the irony: i disagree, Chibnall ruined 13, and everything i dislike about the writing is when she breaks the rules
@@dibspicer554 i dont think its necessarily capaldi that was bad, mostly just the writing, he definitely had shining moments thats for sure, jodie kinda sucked as the doctor along with the writing for the show being lame
It was that speech that made me watch his entire run. Prior to that I had only watch Tennant. I was more of a Tennant fan than a Who fan. But Capaldi broke my heart with that speech and I needed to see more
There are so many good speeches in Doctor Who. I haven’t had the ability to watch the old ones, but Ten’s speech in The Satan Pit, Nine screaming at the Dalek (and its response) and, he might not technically be a Doctor, but John Smith. John Smith, the human Ten who died so universes could live. Unsung hero. Heart wrenching, but so good.
8:22 It’s amazing how well David Tennet portrayed this. The Doctor is tired, and he is ready for death, and you can tell because of his tone and his expression!
I disagree I've always thought the Doctor was desperate to live longer but only resigns himself to death when he realizes he isn't the kind of man who would let Wilfred die. It's tragic when he yells that he could have done so much more. This scene will always be one of my favorites in the whole series. When he finally says I don't want to go, it is heartbreaking.
Number 3: 'its my honor' In all his rage the doctor finally realised that it's his destiny to die there, and if he chose not to, he'd likely die soon after or not be able to live with the guilt It was his honour to save Wilfred, because if he has to die, at least he does it saving one of the best men he's ever known
Better yet, I'm not sure if it was the character of Wifred Mott or his actor, but I know that whichever it is, one of them was a WW2 Veteran who never fired a single shot.
@@antman2443 Not quite. I have not found anything confirming Bernard Cribbins never firing a shot (if you do have a source, though, I would love to see it). Wilfred, the character, is the one who survived World War II without killing anyone. That being said, in real life, Corporal Desmond Doss of the U.S Army who served as a combat medic during WWII who is, indeed, known for never killing anyone on the battlefield nor carrying a weapon, hence his eventual assignment as a medic. He got multiple awards and medals for various feats, including the Medal of Honor, so if you're looking for a RL equivalent to Wil, there you go. :P
"Immortality isn’t living forever. That’s not what it feels like. Immortality is everybody else dying. She might meet someone she can’t bear to lose. That happens. I believe." "Look at you, with your eyes. Your never-giving-up. Your anger. Your kindness. And one day, the memory of that will hurt so much that I won’t be able to breathe, and I’ll do what I always do. I’ll get in my box and I’ll run, and I’ll run." “Don’t play games with me. You just killed someone I liked and that is not a safe place to stand! I’m the Doctor, and you’re in the biggest library in the universe. Look me up.” "There's this emperor, and he asks this shepherd's boy... 'How many seconds in eternity?' And the shepherd's boy says... 'There's this mountain of pure diamond. It takes an hour to climb it, and an hour to go around it. Every hundred years, a little bird comes and sharpens its beak on the diamond mountain. And when the entire mountain is chiseled away, the first second of eternity will have passed.' You must think that's a hell of a long time. Personally, I think that's a hell of a bird."
dirdib69 “we all change... when you think about it. We’re all different people, all through our lives. And that’s good, you gotta keep moving. As long as you don’t forget all the people that you used to be.” - a personal favourite of mine.
The one you included by Capaldi continues to be at the top of my list. Every time I watch it the emotions and thoughts are almost too much to bear. And I never, ever, get through it with dry eyes. It stands as one of the finest examples of script and performance, in harmony. A seamless and perfect fusion of intent and execution. It's a thing of raw and harsh beauty. I'm not sure I'll ever experience another performance that affects me as deeply and viscerally as this one.
It’s funny how the majority of the best speeches were written by Davis and Moffat. Absolute masters of screen plays that elevated Dr Who to legendary status. I so miss their writing!
Capaldi's "I do what i do because its kind" speech doesn't get enough appreciation. I find it beautiful because it tells you that it's not the result that counts but the effort. All these speeches are so beautiful, so brilliant. I wish the script writers got more credit :)
It just always bugs me that he said, "I don't do it for fun." But for so many years, there's been the idea that he basically ran away from Gallifray with a TARDIS to have fun, and he goes to places because he thinks they'll be dangerous and he likes that. That he's "just a madman in a box."
@@bubble8829 Well I think the idea is that originally, yes, he was just escaping to go have fun, but with everything he's seen, all the things he's experienced, and all the baggage that he carries he now sees it as his responsibility to right wrongs, and he's found it necessary to do his best at having fun while he does it. So, while he doesn't do it "for fun" anymore, he's definitely still "having fun"
One of the great things about Wilfred is that even though the doctor is yelling at him and insulting him, he doesn't get upset with the doctor because he knows the doctor and knows he's angry at life because of the situation he's in and he's not angry at him. Instead he tries to make it easy for the doctor to kill him, and he's ready to die for the doctor and for the world
The only thing sadder than someone lashing out at a person they love is that same someone realising how wrong they are when that person takes all their grief, anger and despair so they don't have to hold it alone
Is it weird I expected the Van Gogh speech from the curator with the nice tie to be on here? I know it’s not a doctor speech, but it’s still one of the greatest speech’s in the series.
OMG Thank you for bring it up. Seeing that speech made me cry. It was so heart breaking and touching seeing him react to what the curator had to say and to know that he still kills himself after hearing it just makes it that much sadder.
Always evokes major emotions. Such a great series for bringing such joy and happiness and moments sadness and pain. Every Doctor has their moment and they have all delivered in one way or another
I remember the most incredible feeling I've ever felt whilst watching doctor who is the feeling when Wilfred knocked four times on the glass, it still makes me cry to this day.
That speech to Wilfred always makes me tear up. I think the acting within that really touched upon the basic desire to live and what that means to give that up.
That speech has to be in any list of best speeches from Dr Who. I've always had a hard time as seeing it as acting though. Yes, it was the end of Regeneration 10/11's time, but it always felt as much and more about the end of David's time as the Doctor than about the end of the Doctor's time in a particular regeneration, that it was, in fact, as much David speaking to the fandom as the Doctor speaking to Wilfried.
Twelfth doctor's war speech is so relatable, even to those who obviously haven't been in that situation you can feel how real the emotions are. Even when everyone else is silent, the silence in response to the doctor's words convey so much emotion.
Wilfred is my hero. He stayed with him and comforted him until the end. I cried more when he said goodbye to the doctor than when the doctor regenerated.
@@Astrithor "did you wish *really* hard?" I love that episode, firstly because that scene, and second because getting to hear the TARDIS gripe about the Doctor is amazing, and solidifies the fact that the TARDIS is legit a companion too.
I think Capaldi had some of the best Doctor speeches of the entire show. Tennat was charming, Smith was fun and entertaining, but the older I get, the more I come to appreciate the depth of Capaldi’s Doctor. He stopped running away from all the hard memories and questions the previous Doctors had avoided and grappled with what it meant to be a good man and owning up to his past. He figured out a way to turn his pain into meaningful inspiration to help other people in their journeys. I absolutely miss these eras of DW
The story with the doctors daughter was soo sad 😢 Tenants era really had me bawling a lot as a kid even Tenants regeneration 😫 I’m so happy he’s back as the 14th doctor 😭
there is one thing you never put in a trap, if you’re smart, if you value your continued existence, if you have any plans on seeing tomorrow there is one thing you never ever put in a trap. What would that be sir...
"No one else will ever have to live like this no one else will have to feel this pain. Not on my watch." Litteral chills everytime i hear that line and I dont think that will ever change
It only just now occurred to me that, with 12 knowing the true outcome of the time war, it might have been even more emotionally moving if he had inserted the classic war doctor staple of "No More" somewhere, acknowledging that those words don't represent what they original did.
Honestly, I love all of these speeches and it's so hard to say any precise order for them but I honestly love Capaldi's speech so much more than the others. The depth and emotion and pain and just sheer point he was trying to get across felt so real, almost as if he was screaming it to the entire world. The only way to truly understand each other and move forward, sit down and talk.
I always felt Mat Smith was under utilized. When he was allowed to play serious, he did it so well. Such as in the 50th Anniversary episode, when the three doctors where in the tower talking about hearing the screams.... But they always tried to make him the inner child.
When Matt spoke he really put hid heart and soul into it, Stone-hedge, Rings of achateen, Demon’s run, I am the doctor & you are the Daleks, Spaceship UK, The rules, When the Doctor was me. All of these are not speeches, but they are a few of the moments where the doctors past showed itself and the dark history he had was revealed to the people around him.
bandiceet That was his point. Matt Smith was a hurt man who hid his pain from the people around him with jokes and laughter. This is also why it was so intense when he showed his inner feelings, they had been bottled up for so long that when an opening appeared the all exploded outwards at once, and these moments where were 11:th shined the most.

I normally disagree with any "Top 5" moment compilations. But this one was 100% spot-on. Matt Smith's "Rings" speech is easily the greatest in television series history. I've watched it "more times than I count."
The only thing I would add is Capaldi's farewell speech in the Tardis just before he regenerates. My first Doctor was Tom Baker, and I'll always love him, but Tennant, Smith, and Capaldi brought the Doctor back with a bang! Great speeches from all of them - but the one that sticks in my head the most is Capaldi "never be cowardly, never be cruel . . ." One of the best Dr. Who speeches ever!
To me, Akhaten will always be the one that moved me to tears. I had just had my heart broken when my wife told me that she didn’t want me to be her husband any more. I was broken and suicidal. I went to see my best friends and my goddaughter. We were watching this episode and I just burst into tears, holding a baby that I recognised that I loved more than life itself. The Doctors speech just moved me in a way I have never since. Even now, watching this, I am crying. But these are happy tears. They are the memory of everything that brought me here. They are my leaf. They are the path through the anguish, self loathing, rage and my heartfelt wish to die that encompassed me for years after, and continue to do so today. The Rings of Akhaten is the best episode Matt Smith ever did. Because it saved me. It made me realise that the most important love is of your existence. If you cannot love yourself, even if only for a millisecond, then you have lost. If you ever have these feelings, if you *ever* wish that you were dead, please, I beg you, get help. Talk to someone - I went to the doctor after I held a kitchen knife to my throat and glimpsed myself in the window. I still suffer daily with thoughts that plague my brain, make me feel that my life is not worth living. I am lucky that I have people that make my life worth living. Please. Get help.
My friend, I know we never met but I am proud you coming up and admitting this. And I am honestly so so sorry you went through that. The fact that ONE doctor who episode made you so much feel better is amazing. I don't feel comfortable putting it here, but Doctor Who changed my life for the better. And I will always love it for that. (All I'll say is, the "man who never would" speech really really helped me)
This episode... honestly same. I was very suicidal at the time I first saw this episode. Rivers of tears, still crying every time I see it. Life got better for me, in some way. I'm so proud of us, brother. We got strength to keep going. Even if this is because there's someone else in our lives to live for. But, hope doesn't go away from you, you just grow deaf to it. You will hear it's song again. That I now understand. Get help, please. The world only has one you, there's no copies
Rose: Who are you? The Doctor: [turns around] Do you know like we were saying? About the Earth revolving? [walks towards Rose] It's like when you're a kid. The first time they tell you that the world's turning and you just can't quite believe it 'cos everything looks like it's standing still. [looks at Rose] I can feel it. [takes Rose's hand] The turn of the Earth. The ground beneath our feet is spinning at 1,000 miles an hour, and the entire planet is hurtling around the sun at 67,000 miles an hour, and I can feel it. We're falling through space, you and me, clinging to the skin of this tiny little world, and if we let go... [drops Rose's hand] That's who I am. Now forget me, Rose Tyler. Go home.
The chunk of dialogue that recontextualized the character of the Doctor for a more modern era, that simultaneously reassured die-hard fans that their beloved property was in good hands and won over a new crowd as well. I don’t think I’d be a doctor who fan if not for this speech.
David and Bernard's scene makes me tear up without fail every time. The pain and angst 10 was carrying all came out at that moment, yet he still composed himself and did what he most likely really did not want to do. He put himself in front of everyone else all the time because he knew he would not be able to think about what could have been otherwise. That is the strength he had.0

I feel like that Tennant speech to Wilfred is part of the he came back as the Doctor. He felt he had so much left to do and didn't want to go.
And the fact that he knows he hasn’t got a choice, it’s not him struggling to make a decision whether or not to save wilf. The second he hears the knock he KNOWS it’s his death sentence. Even in the end, he knew he wouldn’t do anything other than save wilf because how could he?
There’s a comic where you see what happens if he did let Wilfred die and it turns him into a tyrant that rules over Gallifrey

I’ve lost things YOU WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND” hits harder than a semi-truck

It broke my heart... For me it's the saddest scene in all of Doctor Who...
Can you imagine how much his heart broke when he realised that his 'death' came not from his enemies but from one of his closest and most beloved friends....
Murray Gold deserves SO much credit for the music behind the Akhaten scene and many others… This man was the musical director of “Doctor Who” from 2005 to 2017 - he gave us the songs of Akhaten, the Ood, every intro song variation during that timeframe, the River Song theme… I cannot stress enough how important his contribution has been to this show 🎶💕🙏🏻
Be excited Murray Gold is making a return for the 60th Anniversary specials & onwards.
The Doctor’s theme from the first seasons will always be a favorite of mine
I love the Akhaten speech because it carries a double meaning.
"Oh, you like to think you're a god. You're not a god, you're just a parasite, eaten out with jealousy and envy and longing for the lives of others. You feed on them, on the memory of love and loss and birth and death and joy and sorrow!"
It's so powerful because the Doctor understands that he is a parasyte, as well, and is speaking as much about himself as he was Akhaten.

Speaking about war, look at the helmet behind him^^'
That's the thing about PTSD, it doesn't really matter if the doctor saved Gallifrey or burnt it from existence because he believed for so long that he was not only the last of his people but that he had destroyed them all.

GOD SAVE THE WILF
and to think his character was originally planned to be a one off. Love the man to death; he's one of those characters you can count on to do the right thing, even if it it means he gets himself into some trouble. Probably my favorite scene of his was when he shot the Dalek in the eyestalk with an egg. Man had balls of steel

'This is what I get, my reward. BUT IT'S NOT FAIR!'
That line hit me. The doctor wished he can get more out of his bodies and his lives, wanting to be happy just for one second.

The tenth doctor lived only for 6 years btw

Seeing number 1 performed live with a choir and orchestra with Matt Smith’s speech reverberating in the theatre is an experience that still gives tears.
Where/when was this live?
I’m jealous. Glad someone made that a thing we can experience!

The best part? Jenny’s actor and Tennant are in real life married, and Jenny’s actor is also the daughter of Peter Davison, the Fifth Doctor. The Doctor is not only his own father in law, but married to his own daughter...

12's speech is so underrated. His take on war is spot on. When they fire the first shots they have no idea who is going to die. And then all the sides to a war will always have to do what they always had to do from the beginning: sit down and TALK. Absolutely brilliant and truthful speech.

There's no insignificant people. If one dies, if not visible, it bings grief to those who knows.

Number 3: 'its my honor'
In all his rage the doctor finally realised that it's his destiny to die there, and if he chose not to, he'd likely die soon after or not be able to live with the guilt
It was his honour to save Wilfred, because if he has to die, at least he does it saving one of the best men he's ever known

Welp, the helmet behind him is something else with this speech. :D
Damn right!!
My family is from Oldham like Bernard, my Mum's uncle was a friend of his in their younger days, I think they went to school together.
Peter Capaldi is just so good at ranting. His angry rants in the Thick of It are just legendary.

I think Wilfred knows that the doctor is shouting at himself right from the get go. And he really wants the doctor to not sacrifice himself.

Yeah

Honestly I believe mat smith has had better speeches than number 4 like “I’ll always remember when the doctor was me”
he really did, his speeches were fantastic. great stuff.

The world only has one you, there's no copies
i hope you're doing well, mate
Hope you're in a better place now. You have such a beautiful way with words.
@@Wigleyboy my boss calls me “a wordy catch you next Tuesday.”
Capaldi’s speech was breathtaking, no music in the background, just raw, powerful, emotion
Go home.
I agree with this. One of the best of the current Doctor Who speeches. Understated. Not bombastic. Amazing.
yes why isn't this included? this is the speech that made me like DW
That one is probably my favorite. It was my first real introduction to the doctor and had an effect on how i sawthe character
The chunk of dialogue that recontextualized the character of the Doctor for a more modern era, that simultaneously reassured die-hard fans that their beloved property was in good hands and won over a new crowd as well. I don’t think I’d be a doctor who fan if not for this speech.
That’s the number one speech. That’s when we knew this was the Doctor and the show I love was back again
