This is a great video, didn´t miss anything! For a full unit I think a few Imperial eagles would significantly improve the look, but no need to do it for every single soldier.
I know it's a DKK on a budget kitbash, but slightly stretching that budget one could get pretty cool bits from few companies (Kromlech, Anvil Industry, Victoria Miniatures, Puppets War) that can nicely enhance the 'trench' feel.
Man this tutorial is so inspiring that I followed suit and got me some kits to create a "small" DKoK army... and by small I meant a few hundred soldiers strong, lol. By the way, any ideas on how to kit bash some death riders? I've seen you and others use the genestealer's cult bikes, which looks great, but I would like to use horses instead.

I have a friend who is fan of Ultramar auxiliar, the imperial guard of the Ultramar sector. They wear a kinda futuristic-Roman Armour. If you could made a conversion video for them would be great. Also this one was fantastic. Thanks for your work, is awesome.

Ah great! I remember seeing the Les Grognards set online a few months ago and thought I had bookmarked it for when I did my next kitbashing...but didn't. I spent hours trying to find it again to no avail. That is a very cool boxed set.
@0:23 you can’t stress it enough how the price is for us in the states. $72 for a 10 man squad, then add the shipping and taxes on it you’re looking at $80+ for said 10 man squad. I love Death Korps but their price tag is horrendous. EDIT: I also think you could use the rifle stock fatigue arms from anvil industries as another substitute to make some DKoK.
I just paid $70 for three centurions lol... That being said, I'd rather pay a UK company for an "Overpriced" kit that pays its workers well and provides health insurance and everything else and pays the designers and art people and the whole GW machine than pay a company farming out production to workers in terrible conditions in china to keep prices low. I feel guilty enough that so many essential products we buy are made in horrible working conditions... i don't need my hobbies to be a constant reminder of that as well.
If you cut a piece of circular sprue, you can attach it to the bottom of the German gas mask helmet. That makes it look like the guard has a neck as well as raise the head enough that the mask doesn't need to be shaved down.
Maybe you want to revisit this or any other of wargames kits. They are now selling an upgrade sprue with gas masks and laser rifles, which makes the conversion process even easier.
Finish a entire Death Korps of Krieg (Or any KB army) kitbashed army. Take Kitbashed army to a GW store. Be told by GW store manager that you can't use non-GW miniatures in the store... Yay?
You've never been able to use non gw figures in tournaments etc anyway and the stores tended to operate on the decision of the management of that store, some may allow it for a small number, but never a full army. Of course, what you use amongst your friends is outside of gw control.

I honestly quite like the basic look of a bolt action on guard motels, seems more fitting to me also the brass Aquila’s from forge world would fit perfect on the helmet to add a little something else and ayee! Indy and the gang over at the Great War. Love their channels
Maybe the French kit from wargames Atlantic could be an even better kitbash. Their helmets and gas masks are even closer to kriegers and their base bodies would blend in better when put into the unit of les grognards
One of the upsides to the 40K universe is that it's full of planets that can (and do) have any level of technology, and any variation of culture. So you could easily pick up some Napoleanic War models or similar, add some bits from "proper" Imperial Guard units, and call them conscripts from a backwater world that had just been fighting wars with muskets when the Imperium appeared over their planet and annexed them. (Or "reestablished Imperial rule over a colony cut off from contact", as the Imperium would put it).
@@PeteTheWargamer Wondering if you made command squads and Grenadiers you could use the chunkier Grognards arms for plasma and hotshot lasguns. So then you could do a 2-1 box ratio... few anvil bits for special heads.
If you want them to look more krieg and are willing to put in some fiddly work you could replace the filters on the gas masks with guitar string or something similar to emulate the breathing tube on the forgeworld models
To be honest when it comes to adding the detail bits from cadians etc you only need a few of those pieces across a unit to sell the entire unit into 40k. As long as the squad leader, special weapons and a couple of guys have some aquila/40k tech you're golden
Fantastic vid Pete, and inspired me to look at making my own. I've no idea if the kit was available when you made this video, but Wargames Atlantic now do some Great War French infantry which look spot on for standard troops, with the Les Grognards kit as the heavier Grenadier infantry. I'll be grabbing some 3rd party stuff to flesh out the minis and add character (personal preference there mostly for accessories) but will be grabbing some better heads from both Liber Daemonica & Anvil Industry (the latter purely for price). I've been wanting to collect Death Korps for years, and thanks to your video I now know how. Many thanks to you!
I'm honestly shocked by how good these look. Usually when you say ''3 for the price of 1'' you'd expect something that looks very ''bootleg'' for lack of better word.
Instead of using the lasgun "tech" you could cut a styrene rod to length and angle cut the tip. Or get fancy and also drill out the tip and make a notch towards the barrel end.
I like thinking of the proxy as a veteran Krieger who had taken up a life as a galactic wanderer after his time in the Astra militarum with gear he'd kept working with spare parts and scraps.
Probably would have put a bit of greenstuff in the hollow beneath the head just so it had more to stick to, although that would mean using superglue rather than plastic cement. Very cool looking though :)

I would love to see a video like this for the Tallarn. I’ve really been struggling to find an affordable way to kitbash them outside of Greenstuff sculpting. I know you already did a video on third party Tallarn, but it would be awesome to also see one on a cheap way to make them in bulk.
Or you could simply buy a recast from someone in Chna, Russia or whereever in the world. Some friends did so and I was really surprised how well made they are, sometimes even better quality than FW itself.
I cant work out why the Games Workshop models are so expensive for so few pieces! These would be cool to build and paint with a heightened Dieselpunk WW2 aesthetic, maybe taking in some Hellboy ideas. But just like you suggested, getting some WW2 models much cheaper and kitbashing them seems far better! My main quarrel with Warhammer is the lack of diversity among units. The kits have gotten better and there's certainly more pose options, but really everyone's leaders look the same and armies of a similar faction can end up being the same as someone else's. In my youth with Space Marines, I tried to greatly alter the base models I got with my Battle for Macragge set. I mostly ruined them, but chopping off limbs to repose, or sculpting a new head shape, or sticking some pilons, scenery etc onto the armour made for more unique units. I did get carried away adding claw marks and bullet holes in everything too, my Rhino tank ended up pretty Swiss cheesed.

I love your kit bashing videos and they gave me a great idea, do you think it would be possible to use Les Grognards legs and torsos combined with the spare bits from the Octarius starter box set to get builded more Krieg options? I was thinking on using bodies from this box with weapons from the Octarius set to complete 10 more Krieg in order to have all the specialist options.
@Pete the Wargammer - I blame you for starting a new army. I always wanted DKoK... Dreamforge Games had at some point an amazing looking infantry (Isenkern) however they arent making it any more. They looked crazy and I regret I didnt bought few boxes in advance.

Buy recast. I play em in a GW store and nobody knows they are recast, they just think I have a ton of money.

Well, I must disagree. Leman Russ after removing the turret pretty much is a Great War era tank.

It is worth noting that eBay is a great source for bits such as weapons and kit. You can pick up lasguns etc really cheaply.

I cant work out why the Games Workshop models are so expensive for so few pieces! These would be cool to build and paint with a heightened Dieselpunk WW2 aesthetic, maybe taking in some Hellboy ideas. But just like you suggested, getting some WW2 models much cheaper and kitbashing them seems far better!
My main quarrel with Warhammer is the lack of diversity among units. The kits have gotten better and there's certainly more pose options, but really everyone's leaders look the same and armies of a similar faction can end up being the same as someone else's. In my youth with Space Marines, I tried to greatly alter the base models I got with my Battle for Macragge set. I mostly ruined them, but chopping off limbs to repose, or sculpting a new head shape, or sticking some pilons, scenery etc onto the armour made for more unique units. I did get carried away adding claw marks and bullet holes in everything too, my Rhino tank ended up pretty Swiss cheesed.

Hi Pete! I love your kit bashing videos and they gave me a great idea, do you think it would be possible to use Les Grognards legs and torsos combined with the spare bits from the Octarius starter box set to get builded more Krieg options? I was thinking on using bodies from this box with weapons from the Octarius set to complete 10 more Krieg in order to have all the specialist options.
I'd love to see a Valhallan Ice Warriors conversion...
or use transfers to put aquillas on their helmets if you already have cadians you will have a mountain of transfers

Dreamforge Games had at some point an amazing looking infantry (Isenkern) however they arent making it any more. They looked crazy and I regret I didnt bought few boxes in advance.
