Hear me out; 3D Printing Krieg is lore-accurate due to how 98% of Kriegsmen are Vat-Grown Clones copied over and over and over again. Best way to get a Krieg Army and have it be lore friendly.
Honestly the models that people make online for free are better than the ones GW are selling. Not even mentioning the paid stls from companies that care.
@@pilz4566 They are not, clones don't work in 40k because they don't have souls. GW retconned that and now it is implied that they are just created in a lab with natural genetic material and then vat grown to speed up the process. I don't think they ever said it clearly, but they are definitely not clones
@@pilz4566 In the newest Krieg book they confirmed at the end that they used these "vita wombs" which basically speeds up the growth process so they can churn out kids faster. No clones though just using genetic material from donors so a lot of siblings basically.
The "problem" with 3d printing is the constant urge to print new models and new armies. Thus, a 3d printer opens a new world to our hobby and makes you want to have them all! Personally, purchasing stls for future projects or armies ( for example because of black Friday proxy stormcast eternals and fyreslayers) made me want to take a break. It is a personal goal to finish painting all my previews miniatures before printing something new. So, no printing for the whole November in order to finish all my projects first and making some true cost savings.
I feel this is my soul. I now collect 10+ armies, usually subbed to 4+ patreons a month, have a 500gb+ hard drive of shame, and am running out of space for my minis.
@@battlebrothersam exactly that. Personally I need to keep in check my inner child now more than ever... Otherwise the printed miniatures will drown me...
@@Splatterpunk_OldNewYork can you believe that I actually did this and discovered a new pile of miniatures hidden in a drawer? What were the chances of that...
The good, old Valour Korps. Literally the first thing I ever printed. After six units of heavy artillery pieces were done, my entire Mono X setup had been paid for and I was in the black. Not having the time to print or play, this still gives me a cozy feeling... good days.
@@battlebrothersam Though you have to admit, one thing that might rival the feeling of artillery is the cavalry. Not because of the models, but the feeling of dropping one on the ground... and simply shrugging because there is more ponies where that came from since they cost cents on the dollar in comparison to Forgeworld.
I know that this is a really old comment and idk if this is a stupid question or not. But I was considering getting into 40k tabletop and surprise, surprise, I don't have 1.3k for a guardsman army. So my question is would the others players be pissed if I was using 3d printed figures? is it like some unspoken rule or something? Or is that really only for official/competitive tournaments
@@Inorepotatoes141 I tried to answer but I think it was too long, so here we go again: No honest question is ever stupid. As usual, it entirely depends on who you plan on playing with. There will always be people who try to make any hobby into a mix between a money pit and an elitist humpfest, who live in mom's basement, work part time but sneer at the idea of you paying rent instead of buying another overpriced tank. You might also meet people who just have money to burn, decided to get an army instead of a sports car for the fun of it and who will cheer you on since they are happy to meet any new wargamer, no matter the circumstances.
@@Inorepotatoes141 If you already have found a group, ask around there. If you do not have one, ask among friends and see if there are other potential new players. Many a gamer is lured by the idea of printing their own army for pennies on the dollar since the only thing you hear about GW from the outside is price gouging and scalping, which drove many suitable candidates away. Check your area for gaming groups.
Eventually as laws crack down on copyright issues, I imagine it'll become even harder to acquire certain printable files. It would certainly be handy for the community to say, store said files to share or resale should the need arise. Patreon and discord can sure come in handy in that regard.
That's why it doesn't hurt to have a physical external HDD to just store files on, even if you're not currently into 3D printing. That's how I managed to have some highly customizable Mk IV tactical marines before the file got taken down
Honestly as an Australian I just picked up an FDM and SLA printer because each GW army of 2000 points will cost me easily that much, and now I can make 10 armies at a fraction of that, all themed how I like, with matching 3d printed thematic terrain. After getting back into the hobby I have to thank GW but I’m never looking back. Even Star Wars legion allows you to collect a whole faction for only $500 and I’m happy to pay that but GW is so broken here in Australia.
@@terrydactyl2077 it's hard to get "accurate to gw" stl files but there's some absolutely amazing proxies out there that IMO can look better. Any 2k printer can technically print finer details than gw can injection mould and once you have a file you can print as many as you want. I've found tons of them still print in pieces so you can pose them in so many ways. Hope this helps 👍
Another excellent vid. I have discovered an extremely friendly warhammer printing community here in Portland, and I have never played Warhammer 40k, think I'll start with this very army! Thanks for making this mate!
I would definitely like to see a video showing how many miniatures - or how many Points in-game - you can get from one bottle of resin. Just to put the cost of a bottle into perspective.
Here's a list of what I was able to print with one bottle of resin: One Death Korps Marshal, one Leman Russ Demolisher, one 10-man Death Korps Grenadier Squad, two 10-man Death Korps Infantry squads, one SoB Canoness, one Celestine, three 10-sister Battle Sister squads, one Slaanesh Infernal Enrapturess, one Keep of Secrets, one Tzeentch Fluxmaster, and the weapons for a Lord of Change (body and wings were too big for my resin printer, so I had to print those on my Ender 3 Pro FDM printer). So as you can see, one bottle of resin will go a really long way.
You are a hero. I've been hunting for exactly this as I'm starting to get into Warhammer after a long time of sitting on the fence. Krieg are all I've wanted, I already had the exact same printer, UV light, even resin bottles that you do. Also, it's 5 days since you posted this and the models we 30% off on Maker's Cult. Screaming good deal and amazing models. The only problem now is figuring out how many is too many...
It's not even about price. It's pure availability. FW doesn't ship models to my country but resin 3d printing is cheaply available. If I want to play 40k with these models there is no other choice. I can mass produce good quaint resin models in my own home, it's amazing.
I'm in the middle of printing a Solar Aux army for Heresy. The official cost of my list would have run almost exactly £2.5k, but so far I'm up to £167 (£60 being the files) and while there's still a lot of models left to go, (including a pair of Baneblade variants) all told I reckon it'll still come in at a saving of about 90%. One thing I will caution is that Chitubox's resin use estimate is usually waaay off - typically by at least 20%, so I always weigh my models when they come off the print bed to get a more accurate gauge of how much liquid (and cash!) I'm burning through.
Hey man. I started watching your videos a few weeks back and they inspired me to final take the plunge and get a printer. It just arrived today along with the last of the extra bits and I'm so excited. Thanks for the inspiration and the informative videos.
2K printer? You can get an 8K these days for half the price of that order. Saturn 8K is $490 and Saturn 2 8K is $550. You could buy the Saturn 2 8K, a wash & cure station, all the supplies you need, gallons of resin, and all the files you need, and still have hundreds less than what GW & FW would charge.
Love the valour korps, been eyeing them for a year and is one of the very reasons why I wanted a printer. Not only that but now I can rescale them and print at 15mm meaning I can play large scale trench battles on a 4x4 table with hundreds of mini trenchers with either the Adrian or normal helm's for the same price as buying GWs version of a single 10 man DKOK squad. Love your videos and thank you for highlighting them, the creators make tons of good stuff not just the valour korps.
@@battlebrothersam glad to hear, They're one of the few patrons I don't think I'll unsub from due to the amount/quality of models the give every month and that the listen to the community to make improvements even to older kits. Very much worth it and looking forward to seeing more of your videos too.
"How do they come up with those prices? " They know people will pay it. Despite their constant price increases, their sales numbers never seem to suffer so that only encourages them to keep raising their prices.
My Valour Korps of Krieg has cost me about 500 dollars in resin, files and supplies. If I had bought it from ForgeWorld it would have cost me over 3000 dollars. And that is an army of around 8000 pts :D
I couldn't believe it was cheaper to purchase the printer and resin, plus all the STL's than to buy Krieg models direct from GW/ForgeWorld, that's just insane.
I would actually love to see how many guardsmen you can print from one bottle of resin, with guardsmen per liter and guardsmen per dollar figures at the end.
hey there, I just wanted to say thank you, since you convinced me to get a Printer, which is going to arrive tomorrow. Im already exited to get started. please keep the good work up.
I've been toying with the idea to get a 3d printer but never had a proper reason to justify it. This video actually helped a lot especially since a friend of mine like you and I agree, like and think Kriegs are some of the coolest minis out there
We just found your channel brother, great stuff! We run a small 3D printing business in Michigan. Im printing a Krieg army right now! We have been using RedMakers models, very good poses and tanks too! We agree over here, the prices are way to high for the average person to jump in. 3D printing has allowed for everyone to jump in to some degree. Thats whats its about for us, the community of gaming together!
Mate as an Aussie, putting it AUD is real. And it hurts. so glad I've found you and others who embrace 3D printing so we can access games and enjoy expanding. Keep it up!
TheMakersCult Trench-friendlies (Kriegers) are my go to. I was the guy who spent a fortune on the Krieg originally, But due to circumstances I could never finish my megabux army. Coming back to it now in the days of 3D output is an absolute gamechanger. In the last 2 months after I bought my Sat 2 (8k) I've printed the equivalent of nearly $2500, and that's AFTER I took off the price of the printer, resin, and files.
I started kitbashing my own DKK force at the start of this year after getting just stupidly fed up with GW's insane pricing. I love the theme of the army but the company's greed just angers me. I don't have the space for a 3d printer, but am absolutely planning one down the road. When you find you can kitbash DKK squads of 10 for a 3rd of the price that GW charge FAR too much. 3d printing is the way forward, I'm lucky to have a friend with one who's printed me off some fantastic stuff from the Valour Korps for my troops, so far mostly officers and more centerpiece minis. There's some fantastic ranges of DKK alternatives, from Stationforge to Redmakers and of course the Valour Korps from Maker's Cult. They're brilliantly designed with some excellent flavour to them, and I can't wait to see what we get in the future from other makers, and what excellent little touches they add to their own. A small thing but I love how the Valour Korps heavy weapons like the Heavy stubber have the round dinner-plate style drum magazines that are reminiscent of the Lewis Gun. Thank you for an excellent vid, having a proper price breakdown like this really helps to show how much more viable this hobby is when you go down this route!
I think that you are making a great point about certain companies overpricing their products because honestly they thought they had a market and will learn that they are not the only thing in the game. BUT you dont seem to be taking many things into consideration here about 3d printing. 1. 3d printing IS NOT plug and play. While its getting easier and easier these days and so many great groups out there to help. There is still a learning curve. 2. There is more copst to resin printing then Resin and Printer. You need proper cleaning supplies, safety supplies (no not just gloves) and to know your local laws about disposal. You have to buy the model. You have to spend time learning and printing and testing and calibrating. I see so many of these youtubers talking about how you can save money to print their warhammer armies by buying printers.....but not talking about all that comes with printing. Please also let your reviewer know that you are not a printing expert and your "This is all you will need" section is VERY minimally correct. Hell even share some local etsy shops of great businesses printing for profit but lower prices then big names.
Wife and I have been resin printing for a while now, so far my Chaos Imperial Knight is my favorite print. I've also never spent a dime on anything GW has made, because they are WAY to overpriced. Used to go to hobby shops all the time when I was younger. They just kepy gouging more and more.
This honestly goes to show that, if you’re self sufficient and know what to do, your wallet will always thank you 😂 I don’t do warhammer or anything, but have always been so dumbfounded how detailed and cool they look when I’m at my local game store, I used to be into Airsoft n such, and 3D printing was VITAL for some thing that you couldn’t even buy, like I had an Airsoft barrett that, if I wanted it to fire bbs harder, I needed to buy their own proprietary over priced springs that weren’t known to be of any quality, so I 3D printed my own spring guider so I could use super high end springs!
As much as this is a great idea (and I'm already printing my own Krieg army) the unfortunate part is that you can only really use these with your own friend group. Official stores (at least the ones I've been to) get rather judgy if you even proxy a head on a guard model in a game. Local game shops probably wouldn't care AS much but I've never seen any proxies at a local Warhammer night at my shop.
but how would they even be able to tell the difference between 3d printed of modelled ones if they are painted up? I mean you could have made a couple of heads with greenstuff easily.
That's where my officially bought armies straight from GW online store Would come to my rescue? Meaning I've got 6 armies of 2000pts plus so when there like.. "UR KIND AIN'T WELCOME ROUND DEEZ PeRTS!" I'll Walk out to the ride Grab the New Black Templars refresh Primaris Army &/or My Primaris Converted DeathWatch Army &/or My True Love The Black Legion over 10,000pts With Multiple Hq Options Depending On How Abaddon Feels. 😆 Than I'll Drop a grand on models at the nearest GW store which isn't there store. We got MVPs in this Thang An U with me an they wanna "Flex" Than They Better Get ready to get Flexed back on. 😆
It really depends on where you are and what your gaming community is like. In the UK, you absolutely wouldn't be able to get away with this. But in America, you're only going to get stopped if it's a GW store or tournament. Other gaming stores or tournaments don't care. I think, especially outside the UK, people massively overstate how much of a problem the non-GW models issue is. If I had to guess, it's because on some level people want to justify having spent hundreds of dollars on plastic/metal/resin, and thus need to hold the "official" models up as being more "legitimate" or "virtuous". And make big assumptions as to how big a deal it would/should be.
Here in Canada, my local game shop people don't really care because they understand that not everyone may not be able to afford some of the options available, the usually accepted rule at most stores I've been to is that you should field at least 1 official model per 9 printed models and that if your paint job is acceptable, then go for it. It of course depends on your location and the people you play with.
GW would be really smart if they read where things are going & instead started selling official model packs that were printable Hell, include a download link when you buy the $60 box so you get your plastic & reprintables. 3d printing is like the internet, you can't put a cap back on once it's spilling out. Might as well make some money
Hi Sam. I'm from Australia, and i am well aware of how ludicrous the GW pricing is. $304 AUD for a Knight Dominus!! I'll definitely be considering 3D printing now. Despite the learning curve, it is looking more and more like the cheaper option.
I enjoy seeing how much you can get out of a bottle of resin videos. 3D printing is something I’m new to, but these videos help for tons of reasons. As you stated, prices of things go up while pay stays the same..so why not save a few pennies. Also, I’ve found 3D printing a great way to gift people items or even have different armies to play with that someone may resonate with. All around great videos and can’t wait for more :)
Thanks brother! Yes I use it for Xmas time and birthdays it really comes in handy, although now I want a fdm printer to make other gifts, and titans... And tanks... And terrain. It never ends lol
That's exactly what I'm doing, I'm planning on rescaling, re supporting and printing a few kill teams that mesh with the various interests of my friend group using various models including some of other models made by the Valour korps creators. I also plan to make them custom armies too using OPRs army builder and points calculator so I can make up 4 kill teams ranging from modern military, cyber punk gang, medieval noble army and Left4Dead zombies all at 15mm scale.
You're the channel that got me into 3D printing! I only got my mars 2 pro 10 days ago and ive already printed 7 custodian guard, 6 aquilon terminators and 2 contemptor galatus dreadnaughts! It's finally allowed me to actually print of the "armies" I've wanted for a literal decade! I'm mid process of printing off a knight questoris now. I was just wondering though, how do you print of the "larger" titans? Do you alter the files yourself? Thank you so much and keep on going!
Glad i found this video honestly. I jumped into the hobby bout a month ago wasting nearly $800 on basic starter supplies and just two mini boxes. I wasted money, but lesson's been learned. Bout to invest and save.
You should do a video on the grim dark future ruleset, just bake up a 3D printed version of their QuickStart setup (basically ultramarines vs orcs and a bit of terrain). Then compare that to the command edition
@@helixmusic4279 the one for the grimdark future rule set is orcs and marines. It is a simplified war game that plays more like older versions of 40k before rules bloat. I definitely recommend checking it out
How do you deal with fumes with the resin printer? I know you mentioned nitrile gloves, but what do you recommend for fumes and ventilation? Where do you keep this in your house?
For my fume management I had the printers in a seperate room and then when opening them I would open the window 10-15 minutes beforehand and during removing the plate and doing ipa wash, now it's in the shed it's the same thing but I leave the door open
Hey! Love your videos :) The big thing putting me off of getting into 3D printing is the layer lines. Do they not bother you at all? They drive me crazy! I assume you print at 0.05mm, do you ever think about lowering the layer height? Would that even help to get rid of the lines? Great video anyway :D
@@battlebrothersamI see! You'd rather have them print in half the time at the cost of being able to see small lines? That makes sense when your printing a whole army I suppose :D Do you happen to know what layer height you'd have to print at to not see lines when painting with washes and contrast paints?
@@battlebrothersam After subscribing, I took the plunge and bought an Anycubic mono 4k. The heretic death squads are going to be my first army...followed by a WW2 SAS themed Tallarn force.
Most important thing to mention in favour of 3D printing imho is that what you are paying for are DIGITAL FILES that you could then print over and over and over... So basically when you pay for some .STL specially if they are for just regular troops of which you are going to need a lot of (like if you want to play any flavor of the Imperial Guard, Tyranids, Orks...) they just pay themselves after the first unit. And usually those proxies are not only better than Games Workshop's, but also come with lots of different options and bits to make them even more unique. PD: If someone is looking for some cool proxies for Catachan Guardsmen, take a look at the "Space 'Nam" line from Reptilian Overlords 😉 And as other have already mentioned in the comments, Station Forge has some of the best proxies I have ever seen. I'm in love with all the awesome models they are releasing for Kill Team 😍😍
i had someone tell me " I don't like 3d printed models because it has less detail" and i told him "! your model painting isn't good enough to worry about the detail, do you even two thin coats" and their work looks like they dipped the models into a paint bucket
Elegoo mars 2 pro is on sale for black friday for 137€ right now just saying, if anywone is in the market for one. Im really happy with mine! 2 days free delivery on top of that!
So I don't have a 3d printer, so I have to rely on services. And I was appalled when I saw the price... Not because it was expensive or anything, but it cost so ridiciously little... Can't wait for the results to arrive ^^. Thank you very much.
Nice vid, good to see a full army print. Personally, I think you are a little light on your budget as you skipped over wasted resin, failed prints, gloves, isopropyl, gas mask cartridges, etc. I think newbies should expect their overall prices to be a bit higher than what you are showing but that's just me (based on my experience currently printing a Horus Heresy army). Still, obviously, way cheaper in the long run. Thanks for making the content, look forward to see more full-army builds!
Thanks brother! Well the $300 budget accounts for that and I didn't have a single failed print with these models becuase the supports are next level but I know what you mean
I've been building a Harakoni Warhawks army for a while, I've used parts from Anvil Industries, Zing, Elysian backpacks (which eBay assures me are not recasting, honest guv) and had heads printed by Shapeways, all in I figure each squads cost £50ish maybe a bit more so around a DKoK squad cost with parts sourced from on average 3-4 different companies per squad to achieve a specific look, but unlike forgeworld I have a decent surplus of extra pouches, weapons and attachments, models with flex8ble posing options, enough extra torsos, arms and heads I can make the odd character model with minimum extra outlay plus I've had none of the quality issues which has dogged every forgeworld kit I've ever bought. I say this to ethersise just how much Forgeworld marks up prices, I am getting parts in from everywhere and it's averaging the same price as a single company produced squad with less items and generally poorer production quality (in terms of mould lines and air bubbles) (and if I'd skipped the jump packs on each squad they'd be £10 cheaper than Forgeworld)
I bought my Mars last July. I just finished printing a whole dwarf army from highland miniatures. I mean 10 units. I have Station forge files for 6 months and just finished about 2k of Ad-Mech: tank, transport, rangers, and skitari. GW should start releasing files like MMF, require a subscription for access, and then start organizing tournaments that are pay to play or they will be dinosaurs.
Can you give some insight into your ventilation and safety setup for resin prints? Also can you give me some idea on how much manual labour hours these models required? I'm interested in resin printing but I'm worried about the safety and additional work.
Great stuff yet again bud :-) just watched it there on my lunch break :-P The best part and worst part about the mini hobby is wanting to try and make so many armies but the best part about printing is, it is something we can do without killing ourselves ha the only other problem is time and storage ha Makers Cult and Red Makers are the way to go for these bad boys :-) also the hoodie is keeping me warm at night in work wuw!!
@@battlebrothersam damn right hoodie and little heater on at night I am golden ga oh yeah I am not surprised at all the amount you have printed off is mad 🤣 but your painting skins have gotten 20 times better it's great to see.
I think anyone with a 3D-printer should be able to print whatever they want, including Warhammer figurines. But if somebody could respectfully tell me why what's happening at 1:52 is not intellectual property theft, I'd love to hear your arguments. These guys are making money off of something they did not create.
Those are their own hand sculpted models, they did create them. This is probably one of the reasons GW has been so neglectful of krieg - they can't copyright WWI soldiers with gas masks. The only thing vaguely 40k is the eagle emblem, but that's also present on period German uniforms. The guns don't even look sci fi. So the argument from me here is that those are literally just hand sculpted generic WWI soldiers.
I don't have a 3D printer. If I had the space, I'd scramble up the money for one. However, I am grateful for people on Etsy who sell 3D printed models. As a person just coming into the hobby, the wide range of models (and for the price) is amazing.
If Games Workshop had any sense they'd sell their own 3D models. They could still charge a premium and could even allow people to customise the models like Hero Forge and provide services to print them out.
If your not fussy filament 3D printer is even cheaper , resin looks great but filament is playable , it will take a lot lot more time to print though but you wont have to buy gloves, uv lights or alcohol . Filament printers are slightly cheaper and have bigger build plates . I played ancients back in the day before 2000 , my armies had well over 160 to 200 figures on average and were made of lead . Funny thing is that we were always on the lookout for realistic plastic elephants we could convert , because they were a lot cheaper to buy than a lead one by almost a factor of 8 to 1. Anyhow good vid , happy hunting .
So I just wanna make it clear from my 2 previous responses to this video, I love what you're doing I think that more people should be standing up to GW and their price gaging and I'm a huge 3-D printer myself. My 2 previous comments are not intended to be negative or hypercritical but simply to provide value to yourself and other people viewing this video.
@@battlebrothersam Good I felt like my previous 2 posts on this video could be construed negatively but if you didn't take him that way I'm glad because they weren't intended as such.
I'm not even into 40k like this, like I'm into it but I don't really play it mostly because of cost... but and I know this is a year old now.. this is crazy I'm now getting into 3D printing because I have the space and the money and seeing the massive cost difference in printing vs buying I'm so happy I'm getting into this and! it might get me into 40k. Cool video btw I watched the entire thing with jaw dropped on pricing.
Check out Red Makers for Krieg style models as well. What I really love about them is they have Chaos corrupted versions of Krieg as well and the Chaos Commisar is a free download model and is fantastic looking! I just assembled and primed him, I am hoping they put on a sale because I really want to snag all their chaos Krieg models.
Thanks for these videos man. They're a big inspiration. I even looked into 3d printing offshore at places like JLCPCB or PCBWAY but the $1 per item (shoulder pad, legs, arms etc all cost) so it adds up, then its $30 shipping to me so worked out one lowly space marine is gonna cost me $39 shipped. Buying a 3d printer and sucking up the startup costs is looking more and more attractive. Suffice to say I wouldn't have even considered that option without your videos. Cheers dude.
Got 60 kriegers, 3 platoon command squads, like 10 of each special weapon, heavy weapons teams, trench themed bases, gaunts ghosts proxies, a lord solar proxy, heavy mortar I'm using as an ordinance team, scout sentinels, a few different tanks, and character models all for free on Cults. The price of resin used printing might've been like $60. Sometimes go a month or two without printing anything. Haven't had it a full year yet and my Mars3 has paid for it self four times over. 3d printing is the future and if GW would sell files or half the price of the current kits maybe they could compete with it.
So I've done math on some stuff like this and so far I've printed a box and half of combat patrol for only 30 resin bottle 1000ml with that being said I also pay 10 a month for a subscription as well for my army but I can't wait till I get bigger printer so I can print this warlord titan i have
@@battlebrothersam haha see I'm using a elegoo Mars 2 pro and most pices are just a tade to big but I've done practice set ups and ya it's gonna be a project for sure but I'm ready for beginning of next year to print him
I use my fdm printer to print models. You have to cut the model up a bit in the slicer but I've found great success, especially bigger models with lower detail. I printed a hierodule for $3.
just got a 3d so this video could not have arrived at a better time, really lovely work. Any chance you could tell me what backpacks the guardsmen were using? I may have missed it but they dont seem to come with the stl files and they really add a lot to the model.
The problem is that many figurines are so expensive because by printing them you are breaking copyright if they leave the shelf in your room... that's why the prices are so high because no one is likely to risk a lawsuit and their supplier dictates the prices he wants... Even if you make a similar one yourself figure and sell it, whether it's a print or a digital form, you may have problems.
Imagine if they'd just sell the stls themselves. They could charge a premium because they'd be "official" and they'd get a ton of sales, serious volume.
If I were interested in buying a 3D printer to start printing armies to get into 40k, would I be able to enter a tournament if I ever got into the hobby like THAT? I figure if I go to a game store most people won’t care and play either way, but what about the more competitive players?
I think from a later video you probably have figured this out, but just in case, and for anyone else - don't use 'IPA', use what we call 'meths' (methylated spirits) in the UK, often called 'denatured alcohol' in US and elsewhere. This is basically an ethanol / methanol mix, some mixes are mostly ethanol, with just enough methanol in it to meet legal restrictions (don't want people drinking it), some are close to being a 50/50 mix, but in either case it will perform better, tends to be less smelly and is almost certainly much cheaper.
I did the Math on it earlier today. I invested $400 for my Anycube Photon Mono 2, a cleaning station, resin, gloves, alcohol, and found a free repository of over 200 gigs of 40k models. For the 500 grams of resin I have, Ive figured I can print out about 230 T'au Droids. Which, if I were to buy them at their cheapest I can find, would come to almost $500. If I print three Titans, my setup has already paid for itself.
awesome video, im looking into purchasing my first resin printer, so this definitely helps, especially with the ease of use from the files you purchased
Waiting to see the cost analysis video for the clown show that is the seraptek heavy construct. It'd be interesting to know if GW pays its sculptors/3d modelers as one-off payments for work or if they pay royalties post-production (It's GW, my bet is entirely on the first.)
Brother loving the krieg models. Great vid but talking sense to a GW simp is harder then leveling the bed on a fdm printer for the first time. Also the 3 models spinning at 4.30. did you paint them if so dam you have leveled up they look great
I recently looked into playing 40k but couldn't get into it because of the price tag. The army i wanted to play (2000 points of pure guard infantry) costs over $1500 when bought from GW themselves, but I can buy a top of the line printer and make MORE models myself than what I would have gotten at GW for only a third of the price... I think I know which route I'm going down instead
Hear me out; 3D Printing Krieg is lore-accurate due to how 98% of Kriegsmen are Vat-Grown Clones copied over and over and over again. Best way to get a Krieg Army and have it be lore friendly.
Makes sense to me 😂😂😂
Honestly the models that people make online for free are better than the ones GW are selling. Not even mentioning the paid stls from companies that care.
Is it now sealed that Krieg's are clones? I just remeber how people argued about it but couldnt be sure if they really were.
GW's pricing is so insane, it's less expensive to print an army and BUY THE 3D PRINTER YOU'RE USING FOR IT than to buy it from them.
Dont forget they arbitrally jack up prices depending on where you live also
Exactly. It's why they are so aggressive in fighting 3D creators because they know how badly they are price-gouging and how uncompetitive they are.

I now collect 10+ armies, usually subbed to 4+ patreons a month, have a 500gb+ hard drive of shame, and am running out of space for my minis.

station forge, print minis and mrmodulorka. 30 best dollars ever month.
The good, old Valour Korps. Literally the first thing I ever printed. After six units of heavy artillery pieces were done, my entire Mono X setup had been paid for and I was in the black. Not having the time to print or play, this still gives me a cozy feeling... good days.
Hands down the best models to print supports are great models are great I want to print off more of the heavy artillery units now lol

I would definitely like to see a video showing how many miniatures - or how many Points in-game - you can get from one bottle of resin. Just to put the cost of a bottle into perspective.
I have one for orks! I managed to get a good amount of them not sure about points though

It's not even about price. It's pure availability. FW doesn't ship models to my country but resin 3d printing is cheaply available. If I want to play 40k with these models there is no other choice. I can mass produce good quaint resin models in my own home, it's amazing.
Glad you have access to a printer brother 😁😁
GW seems to be working the hell out of their 2 (IIRC) factories and just can't keep up. Too many franchises and too many models to keep up.
Ah I didn't know that about the estimate being off! But jesus that's some savings you have already
As a GW VP this is highly offensive. I will no longer be able to afford paying for my wife's boyfriends gym membership. Please stop.

Your 100% right brother Richard! Always great to see you in the comments
Keep it up!
That's the reason why GW and other IP holders was going so hard against 3d print sharing sites. It cuts them out.
Another great example of the benefits of 3d printing - I love those Krieg proxies.
They are the best ones I've found
Wife and I have been resin printing for a while now, so far my Chaos Imperial Knight is my favorite print.
If you listen closely during Sam's videos, you can hear GW bigshots cry.
😂😂😂 I can hear them now brother
As much as this is a great idea (and I'm already printing my own Krieg army) the unfortunate part is that you can only really use these with your own friend group. Official stores (at least the ones I've been to) get rather judgy if you even proxy a head on a guard model in a game. Local game shops probably wouldn't care AS much but I've never seen any proxies at a local Warhammer night at my shop.
Yeah it's a downside but the pros outweigh the cons for me
but how would they even be able to tell the difference between 3d printed of modelled ones if they are painted up? I mean you could have made a couple of heads with greenstuff easily.
That's where my officially bought armies straight from GW online store Would come to my rescue?
Meaning I've got 6 armies of 2000pts plus so when there like..

😆 Than I'll Drop a grand on models at the nearest GW store which isn't there store.
We got MVPs in this Thang An U with me an they wanna "Flex"
Than They Better Get ready to get Flexed back on.
GW would be really smart if they read where things are going & instead started selling official model packs that were printable
Hell, include a download link when you buy the $60 box so you get your plastic & reprintables.
3d printing is like the internet, you can't put a cap back on once it's spilling out. Might as well make some money
They look fantastic. Great find.
BTW the S in Korps is silent, it’s like Corps in army, the PS are actually silent, so it’s “Death Kor of Krieg”
Hi Sam. I'm from Australia, and i am well aware of how ludicrous the GW pricing is. $304 AUD for a Knight Dominus!!
I'll definitely be considering 3D printing now. Despite the learning curve, it is looking more and more like the cheaper option.
If your in Australia then your going to see huge savings!
I know this is an older video but what do you recommend for ventilation?
I enjoy seeing how much you can get out of a bottle of resin videos. 3D printing is something I’m new to, but these videos help for tons of reasons. As you stated, prices of things go up while pay stays the same..so why not save a few pennies. Also, I’ve found 3D printing a great way to gift people items or even have different armies to play with that someone may resonate with. All around great videos and can’t wait for more :)
Thanks brother! Yes I use it for Xmas time and birthdays it really comes in handy, although now I want a fdm printer to make other gifts, and titans... And tanks... And terrain.

Thanks brother! Glad the hoodie is keeping you warm 😁😁 storage is my big issue lol might end up having to give models away
@@battlebrothersam damn right hoodie and little heater on at night I am golden ga oh yeah I am not surprised at all the amount you have printed off is mad 🤣 but your painting skins have gotten 20 times better it's great to see.
The backpacks on the Krieg infantry doesn’t come with the infantry builder file. Can I ask where you got it from?
Your right they aren't I forgot about that! I believe they are a separate file
Always great to find content creators from NI.
Heyy.
Good video idea!
You seem like a great dude - Keep it up and this channel will go places.
Kudos.
If Games Workshop had any sense they'd sell their own 3D models. They could still charge a premium and could even allow people to customise the models like Hero Forge and provide services to print them out.
you sir are an inspiration to me snd my small company thanks for all the advice. and we will continue to be on the look out for your new stuff.
Thanks!
Congrats on 4k subs!
Thanks! 😁😁
I didn't get any negatives from your comments brother
Yeah their renegade line is amazing the heavy gunner with the torso holding the gun up? Grim and dark lol
So I've done math on some stuff like this and so far I've printed a box and half of combat patrol for only 30 resin bottle 1000ml with that being said I also pay 10 a month for a subscription as well for my army but I can't wait till I get bigger printer so I can print this warlord titan i have
Ah another person printing the warlord! I'm going to support my pieces soon and get stuck into it
@@battlebrothersam haha see I'm using a elegoo Mars 2 pro and most pices are just a tade to big but I've done practice set ups and ya it's gonna be a project for sure but I'm ready for beginning of next year to print him
I wonder if you could do the same thing with the new Cadia rising kit?
That's a good idea
what slizer did you use?
So are the 3D print models exactly the same? Or are they a little different for copyright reasons? How does that work exactly?
I use my fdm printer to print models. You have to cut the model up a bit in the slicer but I've found great success, especially bigger models with lower detail. I printed a hierodule for $3.
Class I'll need to do this to fix up all my old broken kre8g
just got a 3d so this video could not have arrived at a better time, really lovely work. Any chance you could tell me what backpacks the guardsmen were using? I may have missed it but they dont seem to come with the stl files and they really add a lot to the model.
They are in their discord if your a patron to them.
@@battlebrothersam ahh, thank you very much :)
Imagine having one or those massive 100000 point armies for a relatively low cost.
10000 points printed would be close to 1000 bought 😂😂
Imagine if they'd just sell the stls themselves. They could charge a premium because they'd be "official" and they'd get a ton of sales, serious volume.
You are quickly convincing me to purchase a 3D printer. Can you suggest the best 3D printer for 40K-type models under $1,000???
Saturn 2 hands down! All of these were done on a 2k Mars 2 Pro so a 8k will make them shine
@@battlebrothersam Excellent - Thank you. $550 on sale now!
Where are the models from? I'd like to print these myself (though I would print them in FDM)
If I were interested in buying a 3D printer to start printing armies to get into 40k, would I be able to enter a tournament if I ever got into the hobby like THAT? I figure if I go to a game store most people won’t care and play either way, but what about the more competitive players?
I was looking to make another army for my Bad Moonz to fight and now I may go for Kreig instead of Skitarii
A little octarius action 😁
Thanks brother!
Waiting to see the cost analysis video for the clown show that is the seraptek heavy construct. It'd be interesting to know if GW pays its sculptors/3d modelers as one-off payments for work or if they pay royalties post-production (It's GW, my bet is entirely on the first.)
That's one question I really want answered because a lot of people seem to think 3d printing is making the designers lose monwy
Brother loving the krieg models. Great vid but talking sense to a GW simp is harder then leveling the bed on a fdm printer for the first time.
Also the 3 models spinning at 4.30. did you paint them if so dam you have leveled up they look great
Brother Chris thanks for your kind words 🙏😁
I recently looked into playing 40k but couldn't get into it because of the price tag. The army i wanted to play (2000 points of pure guard infantry) costs over $1500 when bought from GW themselves, but I can buy a top of the line printer and make MORE models myself than what I would have gotten at GW for only a third of the price... I think I know which route I'm going down instead
