Glad to see a fellow Night Shift enjoyer, the amount of heart and detail he puts into his projects also had me wanting to apply his techniques to some wargame vehicles. That sentinel came out amazing!
Couldn't agree more! He's a massive inspiration and has been one of the driving factors of me trying to incorporate scale modeling techniques in wargame miniatures.
The way this communicated the bleak feeling of being out in the cold and snow during combat was honestly great. Just looking at it and thinking about it made me uncomfy, which is definitely a good thing
Some Catachan Conversions would be fantastic. A tank with a "lived in" look. Their Tank being their home base for excursions through the death world! Keep up the incredible work
Like when a master chef makes a simple meal. Without straining his craft with fancy tricks and elaborate embellishments, he falls back on what he knows will work, and effortlessly creates a masterpiece. All it is is an open hatch and a soldier wearing an Ushanka, but I still find it more impressive than the demons and vampire lords.
One thing i'd recommend as someone who lives in a cold climate is that snow builds up in nooks and crannys on vehicles so it could be cool to pack some snow onto the flatter parts of the armor panels.
Probably one of your best paint jobs so far, also I really like the bridge between scale modellers and classic warhammer tank painting! Miniature painters like Night Shift use so many techniques that are applicable to warhammer stuff it's a shame the two communities don't mesh that often. When they do you get brilliant results like you've got!
What I love most about this paint scheme, you proved you don't always have to paint certain parts metallic silver, like the engine, and legs that you see often. This was brilliant. The snow effecet on the base is phenomenal.
It looks awesome!! I think it’s hilarious that the community has seemingly agreed the sentinel’s gyro stabilizer looks terrible and can be left out of the model.
absolutely love the base on this! would love to see you tackle a regiment like the mud jumpers from solo: a star wars story. i wet weather, muddy regiment would be fantastic to see weathered in this style, and would especially love to see you tackle a really muddy, trench-like terrain.
As a resident of the Canadian rockies I knew you were doing the terrain justice when my brain suddenly went "ugh my trouser legs are gonna be all muddy and wet when I get home".
Since I am building my own winter/vahallan themed army, I would love to see more Imperial Guard/Militarum conversions in the future. I already used the techniques I learned from this channel to give a few officer models fur collars and ushankas. Wonderful work, and I love your panting style. It sold me on the new look of the sentinel. I don't feel like 'Eavy Metal's style of painting the Guard does a good job of showcasing what the new models have to offer, but yours gets the gritty feel of the machinery to come through with out looking messy.
geeze here i am painting every hose and bolt shell to show off detail and this guy paints the whole thing the same color and it looks so much better. amazing
Awesome conversion and paint job, i really like the casual pose of the guy sticking out of the hatch. Im a sucker for more natural or relaxed poses on minis, i think warhammer can sometimes go a little too far with the endless heroic poses. My only slight critique would be i think you should have applied a little bit of snow texture to the walker itself: it looks a little divorced from the base to me. When you operate a vehicle in the snow, you'll find it gets everywhere, and little bits of snow in recesses or built up on top would really sell that these guys are deep in a frozen tundra. Maybe even a little build up behind the open hatch would be cool, like he's tipped it off when he opened it up
Very very well executed, great effects Constructive feedback if it helps…. - I applaud the painting of most metal parts. You’d think in GW land that almost half a tank was bare metal. Good to see you avoided that. But some, especially moving parts, should be bare and could have interacted with the weathering in a cool way? Same for the engine cowling, with some more metal you could have the opportunity for colour / heat affects - the smoke launchers have a bit of a mold line on them - the base is amazing, but really felt like it needed a foot print from the walker in it, breaks the illusion not having one behind the right leg Keep Up the amazing work
Gorgeous paintjob and so happy to hear you giving Nightshift a shoutout! He's so talented and has so many awesome tips and tricks for helping wargamer hobbyists as well as armor modelers.
This is a fantastic project all around, Pete. There are so many different things here that a hobbyist can take away from this video, even if they don't plan to convert at Valhallan Sentinel: the pilot sticking out of the cockpit, the fur-lined hat, the stencil, the green stuff fabric roll, and the snow basing can all be useful tutorials. I'm just getting started with Astra Militarum. I don't think I'll do Valhallans (I don't want to have to do green stuff sculpting on every single infantryman), but I really like the idea of having a Sentinel with the pilot leaning out.
I love the ice warriors style and aesthetic, I don’t have any sets or models of my own, mostly cause painting very difficult for me. It’s so awesome seeing you create these beautiful models all by yourself
I've never really liked snow effects on models, I've always seen it as something negative on an otherwise good model. But I like this snow effect ✨ This is the best snow effect I've seen yet, (maybe it is because it looks like snow looks in my area ~ mostly dirty icy slush that's been trodden through?) and it doesn't detract from the model, but adds to it. The scale looks right. It's not uniform, but varies it's consistency as snow does when trafficked through. And you didn't put globs of "icing" all over the model itself 👍
This is one of the first things I've seen actually use the AK Snow Basing stuff. I hope people can find their way to this video for a good example of their use, if nothing else.
As I'm starting an Astra Militarum army myself, seeing the stencil technique you used for the number has helped me figure out how to do my own numbering on the armor of the soldiers. I would love to see further videos of you Valhallan Army. Especially a Castellan conversion as I'm wanting to give mine a Mechanicus cyborg foot!
Personally I think this is your best model to date.. I loved your Valhallan Ice Warriors when you painted them, and this was such a masterfull followup. I sincerely hope you make more models for this theme, and more machines of war aswell.
Really loved this conversion! The way you incorporate details which add narrative and character to the Sentinel is brilliant, and I'm buzzing to do more snow bases after seeing this one. Thanks!
Cane here after watching the Krieg Russ kitbash. Instant sub after hearing the love for Uncle Night Shift 😁. Incredible work here and on the Krieg Russ
Mah friends, this is frigging awesome, love the work and also to see others appreciate the work on night shift. Its amazing to see and know stuff I use on my other kits have crossed over to miniatures, love the work you both put into helping us lesser builders improve in this hobby, long may it and you both continue.
Man I love that slush! You can tell it's the kinda mud/snow that feels nothing like christmas, and a lot more like getting soaked to the bone as the mud sucks your boot right off your foot. However, I can't help but feel you missed an opportunity by not dusting the tank in a light layer of snow, to really integrate it into the scene.
Absolutely amazing. I'm starting a snow/ice DKOK style army and I have 3 walkers right now and wasn't sure how to do them. This definitely gives me some ideas.the hand made blanket roll was a nice touch
What an absolutely fantastic result. Really excellent work! Not sure if it would be pushing things too far or not, but I’d love to see a very small amount of the snow effect basing medium used on some of the static parts of the sentinel too - perhaps on top of the skulls, material roll and uppermost surface of the armour 😊
It's nice to see the Valhallans getting some love, GW have abandoned almost all other regiments and just sticks whit giving the Cadian poster boys new stuff along with the jungle fighters.
Love it! I’d love to see you give some heavy weapons some Vostroyan flair, whether that be the heavy weapons squads proper or field ordnance batteries. Tanith would also be rad, and Athonian Tunnel Rats would make for a good challenge - their art looks stunning but MAN would it be complicated to put together.
great work Pete! that snow base looks absolutely perfect. as for further AM conversions, i would love to see a series of you converting the new infantry into various regiments from the codex, like Miasman redcowls, salvar chem-dogs, mordians, etc
Pete mate, you never cease to dissapoint I love your guard conversions as a guard player myself! This is also totally doable without detracting from the qaulity. Would love to see you do the Athonion tunnel rats say with ash wastes nomade raiding party!
This is glorious! I absolutely love it! I hope to eventually make some Valhallan Sisters of Battle one day, and this is a huge boost to the idea seeing how well kitbashed guards can look!
I dig the extra armor you added, but seeing the weld beads done in sprue goo looked like an exceptionally precarious step - one false move and you've got a melty mess that would require a LOT of sanding and resculpting to sort out, or possiblly a total loss. You mentioned your paint scheme was inspired by Martin Kovac over at Night Shift, you may want to offer up his solution to weld beads with epoxy putty as well :) Not taking away from the finished result here btw, it looks great!
Amazing conversion Pete, great job as always. The Valhallans look incredible and love the hatch work on the sentinel. Not sure if you'd be interested but I'd love your take on a Chaos conversion for the new Cadians, some of them may have fallen after all....
Awesome. Would have love to see some smoke stacks coming from the exhausts and tiny red glow from the engine. It would contrast nicely against the bue/greens
Pete that Sentinel looks awesome! I've followed Nightshifts channel for a while his tutorials are some of the best I've seen out there when it comes to painting armor.
Awesome work! I'd love to see you maybe work on converting some Vostroyan Firstborns. They have a unique and beautiful aesthetic that I would absolutely love to see you take a crack at, especially the gas masks

Man i would absolutelly love to see the new Rogal Dorn tank converted into a Valhallan style one
the name doesn't fit the thing but it's neat
Me too +1
Fully agreed 👍👍
Me too +1
Same!
Glad to see a fellow Night Shift enjoyer, the amount of heart and detail he puts into his projects also had me wanting to apply his techniques to some wargame vehicles. That sentinel came out amazing!

Mah friends! Seriously the best part of a Friday is hearing that.
The way this communicated the bleak feeling of being out in the cold and snow during combat was honestly great. Just looking at it and thinking about it made me uncomfy, which is definitely a good thing
Thank you! I tried to keep the model looking bleak and drab without it just being bland and boring so I'm glad to hear that it comes across that way 🙂
It makes me feel very comfy knowing I'm not there
23:35 "The last soldier, his village burned down around him, quietly watches the fire from the Sentinel hatch. There is nothing left for him here."
Your valhallan kitbashes just make me wish for a kitbash of Ciaphas Cain, Jurgen, Colonel Kasteen, and Major Broklaw
Some Catachan Conversions would be fantastic. A tank with a "lived in" look. Their Tank being their home base for excursions through the death world! Keep up the incredible work

This looks excellent, the weathering is beautifully done and really sells the "winter warzone" vibe
Probably one of your best paint jobs so far, also I really like the bridge between scale modellers and classic warhammer tank painting! So hyped for this, your Valhallans are so class
It looks awesome!!
I think it’s hilarious that the community has seemingly agreed the sentinel’s gyro stabilizer looks terrible and can be left out of the model.

Cool idea!
Reminds me of a great Soviet Kv-2, which fits perfect with the Valhallan style, stellar work!
Yes, More Guard please! Would love to see my boys in the Steel Legion getting some love.
As a resident of the Canadian rockies I knew you were doing the terrain justice when my brain suddenly went "ugh my trouser legs are gonna be all muddy and wet when I get home".

I have never in my entire life seen a brown go so effortlessly over a black base coat. That was cathartic. Model looks great btw.
Valhallan heavy weapons team! So much you could do for that. Like blankets on them or a makeshift tent
The vice grips to hold pieces together while drying is *genius*
Finished the video: I love it. Now I’m off to discover the Valhallan Ice Warriors
Wow, this looks more like a scale model, than a gaming piece. Very nice, well done.
geeze here i am painting every hose and bolt shell to show off detail and this guy paints the whole thing the same color and it looks so much better. amazing

If you are finding a salimander vehicle, Cain holding on to Jurgian's flat out diving style would be a great addition to the Valhallan collection.
Your Valhallans are so good I'd love to see you do some more.
Very very well executed, great effects
Constructive feedback if it helps….
- I applaud the painting of most metal parts. You’d think in GW land that almost half a tank was bare metal. Good to see you avoided that. But some, especially moving parts, should be bare and could have interacted with the weathering in a cool way?

Up the amazing work
Your work is great as always. I would love to see u tackle Mordian Iron Guard . Pretty please
Seeing the attempt at wield marks really looks cool. Makes me want to try making a Cast Iron appearance on a tank now
that sprue glue trick is possibly the best news for a prospective ork player, the weld lines look so good and greasy
I love how you always talk in the passive voice. So eerie, in a good way. Like the model is making itself
I would love to see your take on Tallarn Desert Raiders
Gorgeous paintjob and so happy to hear you giving Nightshift a shoutout! He's so talented and has so many awesome tips and tricks for helping wargamer hobbyists as well as armor modelers.
This is INSANE. That paint job is phenomenal
Good to hear someone else sing Nightshift's praises. Everything I've ever needed to know about vehicle painting I learned from that guy.
This is a fantastic project all around, Pete. I love the ice warriors style and aesthetic, I don’t have any sets or models of my own, mostly cause painting very difficult for me. It’s so awesome seeing you create these beautiful models all by yourself
Amazing as always!! I'm really excited to see what you get up to with the new Ridgewalkers kit, they look like a kitbashers dream!

That base was so beautiful I just decided how I'm basing my next army.
Really like the approach to flavoring vehichle units towards particular regiments or chapters. Great job!!
When I saw the thumbnail I immediately thought of Night Shift. Very fun to hear that’s where some the inspiration came from!
Personally I think this is your best model to date.. I loved your Valhallan Ice Warriors when you painted them, and this was such a masterfull followup. I sincerely hope you make more models for this theme, and more machines of war aswell.
By far one of your best paint jobs so far. Awesome video as always Pete
Holy shit you need to do a full army like this.
Really loved this conversion! The way you incorporate details which add narrative and character to the Sentinel is brilliant, and I'm buzzing to do more snow bases after seeing this one. Thanks!
4:16 this is canon, just a poor guardsman captured by the dark eldar's flesh humonculus with ginourmous hands for skin crafting

Love the modifications of to the Sentinel. Adds so much character.
Great tutorial on using the snow effects. I can see my Vostroyans getting their fair share in the near future.
Absolutely love the paint scheme but especially the base, that basing is gorgeous
Absolutely amazing. I'm starting a snow/ice DKOK style army and I have 3 walkers right now and wasn't sure how to do them. This definitely gives me some ideas.the hand made blanket roll was a nice touch

Man...I've been watching your vids for inspiration and when you mentioned Night Shift I was like "YAS!" I love 40K and Scale kits :)
Im a big fan of Night Shifts work also and i have to say, your Sentinel is rly good looking
Sometimes is amazing to see the glowup on your painting style pete, amazing video as always!
yes more pls, Valhallan Rogal Dorn tank next?
I'm so glad the painting is included now
Spectacular ice/snow feeling on the entire model - Please do more guides/conversions like this :D
It's nice to see the Valhallans getting some love, GW have abandoned almost all other regiments and just sticks whit giving the Cadian poster boys new stuff along with the jungle fighters.
Great job. It's amazing what a couple of touches of flavor and the right paintjob can do.
Love it! I’d love to see you give some heavy weapons some Vostroyan flair, whether that be the heavy weapons squads proper or field ordnance batteries. As a Valhallan fan, this was an especially good video. thanks for the inspiration
Yeeesssss! Just in time! I was just about to update my sentinel models for the new codex! Thank you for another awesome video!
This is an amazing paintjob and all the nightshift studying shows! Keen to try this style myself
Pete mate, you never cease to dissapoint I love your guard conversions as a guard player myself! This is also totally doable without detracting from the qaulity. Would love to see you do the Athonion tunnel rats say with ash wastes nomade raiding party!

Wonderful as always, I adore this conversion, just as I did the other Valhallan conversion. Wonderful work Pete, keep it up!
Amazing conversion Pete, great job as always. The Valhallans look incredible and love the hatch work on the sentinel. Not sure if you'd be interested but I'd love your take on a Chaos conversion for the new Cadians, some of them may have fallen after all....
Honestly think this is one of the best things you have ever Painted.
Very awesome! The snow base will definitely be tried on my next space wolf base.
I have had Factor meals myself, I can attest to their quality. They're super great for lunch alternatives for folks at work.
Beautiful! I've got some 3d printed valhallans I'm working on now so it's great to see this for future inspiration for the rest of the army 😁
Great work. I would love to see some projects on converting / creating other regiments like Tanith, Tallarn, Mordian, Steel Legion, Ork Hunters.
Awesome. Would have love to see some smoke stacks coming from the exhausts and tiny red glow from the engine. It would contrast nicely against the bue/greens
Amazing vidéo ! Can't wait to see more Astra millitarum work here
A simple but very effective and lovely conversion
Pete that Sentinel looks awesome! I've followed Nightshifts channel for a while his tutorials are some of the best I've seen out there when it comes to painting armor.
Very nice. My only observation is there should be snow effect on its legs and recesses
This was great :) I'm a big fan of uncle nightshift as well!
Hope to see more of your Valhallan's in the future.
That is a cool kit, and the conversion and paint job really makes it looks superb.
Man, I just love winter vibes
Dude the mini looks incredible!
I love seeing you use some of Night Shift's techniques, would love to see you make one of his buildings
Beautiful tutorial! I look forward to trying these techniques to add some more flavor to my Valhallan army!
Awesome work! I'd love to see you maybe work on converting some Vostroyan Firstborns. They have a unique and beautiful aesthetic that I would absolutely love to see you take a crack at, especially the gas masks
Excellent work Pete! It not only looks good but it has a realistic look to it.Thanks for sharing this.
i think converting the cadian troops from the set into vostroyan firstborns would be unbelievably cool.
Brilliant as always, your Vahallans are phenomenal! Excellent snow work especially.
Absolutely a wonderful model as usual your guidance and skill produced exactly what you set out to do .
as always very nice kitbash and a very nice project. I realy enjoy jour greenstuff-skills. I would love to see some catachan kitbashes as well 🙂
Thanks for doing the painting as well
I really liked the extra armor steps you showed, another excellent watch.
Edit: You referenced Night Shift, nevermind, heh.
