This was some of the most fun I've had with a challenge in a while. I'm very impressed with all the submissions (especially the Bababooey-inator, that was insanely creative use of the decouplers)! I'm looking forward to the next time you host this!
I remember wanting to do this recreating a scene from Cavalier Du Ciel, but couldn't get a efficient enough design of the Mirage 2000 to complete the run at top speed.

That’s really weird that was the first thing I noticed, before he said it was made by Yoda I thought it was a partial replica of one of the Jedi ships. I didn’t see the front so I’m assuming that looks a lot different but the back looks exactly the same.
Derple Purp's Bababooey-inator when it started the race, to the river: "omae wa mou, Shindeiru." *explodes* This is a bit of a premtive decision, but I think this is my favorite just for the shear sillyness of this craft and the fact that it "worked"
I'm surprised Stratz was the only major player we saw enter the ring, I felt for sure Danny would've contracted Kerbin and made the start and finish marks a mere few meters apart...
I still can't believe my insane contraption got 9th place. Because I'm on a laptop, the lag means that the actual time spent recording my run was nearly six hours, and the whole time the camera was jittering like something crazy because the game thought I was "moving over the surface." I'm already working on my entry for the next river challenge, and it's just as wacky, but entirely different.
Thank you for hosting this challenge, Bradley. The immense amount of time you put into organizing and judging these events really payed off once again. Your enthusiasm about the game and all of its challenges is really contagious and, with every new video, never fails to motivate me to go that one step further. (and this is apparently also true for this "Wide Yoda" chap :b )
Thank you so much for hosting this Brad! Was a ton of fun (and some frustration) to play! And you’ve inspired me to try making more KSP videos! Hopefully I’ll do better than my mid-air docking run next time ;P
BTW, about the river with dry areas - did you know, there _ARE_ some such rivers here in Earth? Rivers where their water goes actually underground in one or several parts of their course. The Guadiana in southern Spain is one of the most famous ones: The water of this river's basin goes into the aquifer at some points, resurfacing at others, in several rivers along a continuous basin, which for centuries was believed to be a single river with subterranean stretches (es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guadiana ; link to Spanish version of wiki because the English version just mentions the debunking of the old "subterranean river" theory, without mentioning the now-known "back to the aquifer" part). _EXACTLY_ like the upper course of the Kyle river in Kerbin.
@@KnightofSaintJohn Well, reportedly the Guadiana's course was once changed by an explosion - not quite first price but certainly Kerbal-worthy. (I wonder how many decouplers they used).
I notice that I didn't see any podracer replica entries in the finalists. I'm assuming that's because everyone else had about as much luck as I did building one that was actually controllable.
Glad to see so many dedicated entries! I am shocked on that 3 part plane. I tried for hours to get one to fly reliably, no luck. Now that I know its possible...
Okay I just got to the Lancaster and wow that's incredible. The fact that it's a pretty accurate Lancaster is incredible enough but the replication of the bouncing bomb is above and beyond. Absolutely glorious.
I cannot describe how positively I have been surprised by this video. I feel absolutely humbled by all and any of the submissions, as well as by your own commentary and video. Thanks a bunch for the entertainment provided!
An orbit is completely inertial with no outside forces (other than gravity) required to maintain it. You could go faster, while staying in an orbit-like path, by providing additional centripetal acceleration. In other words, with a continuous (radial in) burn. If you wanted to stay completely stable on that "orbit," you'd need to keep it constant though, which would be hard since you'd be losing mass as you go.
@@ryanspence5831 OK, you got a point By the way, congrats for your build again, it's pure genius! How many attempts did you need to make it shoot at the right spot?

That's a great idea you had to start a competition, it brought out some very talented people so we could all see their creations. Thanks.👍
@The Unnamed cousin You can try and give the wings an initial angle relative to the fuselage, kinda like the B-52 bomber. This way you don't need to rotate, to get your initial bit of lift.

What’s the fastest possible way to fly around the planet once? There’s gotta be a faster way than just getting into a low orbit
Getting into a lower orbit and thrust down so you stick to the surface
