RIP to that one guy from the first challenge that used only SRBs for his whole run, whom Bradley insisted do the same again if he ever did a second challenge
You can actually turn down SRB thrust limiters low enough for the engines to last for 100x longer or more, of course you will get barely any thrust from that but it is still interesting.
Would love to see someone do a heavy airlift run. Proposed requirement: internal cargo bay carrying 5000 units of Liquid Fuel - not accessible by aircraft engines (show the tank is still full at completion of run)
A while back I built a B-52 SSTO with a pretty sizable cargo bay... I'd have to check if it can carry 5000 units, but if it can, I might give this a go.
Update: it can indeed fit 5000 units of Liquid Fuel. It was a little fiddly, because of course Mk 3 fuel tanks don't fit in Mk 3 payload bays, but I was able to get it there with 12x 400 LF Mk 1 fuselages (4800 LF total) and 4x 50 LF Mk 0 fuselages (200 LF total). Whether it will have the endurance to get all the way across the course with this much dead weight, I'm not sure, but I can at least attempt the challenge. For added fun factor (and because at this point, what's a bit more mass) I'm going to try and complete the course with the 5000 units AND all the orbit-specific stuff like monopropellant, RCS thrusters, solar panels and airbrakes, etc. I'll let you know how I get on!
@@eriklindbergs5017 The run is up! I completed the course in just over 1hr 35m with the cargo, then dropped it like a bomb from ~1km up and flew back to the KSC on fumes. Originally I'd meant to put chutes on it, but I forgot, so the "delivery" wound up being directed by Michael Bay. Oops... Unfortunately KER's overlay made the liquid fuel readout mostly illegible, but if you look at the leftmost number when I drop the cargo you'll see that the remaining fuel drops from 8XXX to 3XXX.
I thought about swimming it but after some quick calculations I realised that it would take at least 4 days of real life time. Not that I wouldn't, but I think my computer would die before I finished that.
I can see it now. Somebody on a command chair, with a singleton electric propeller, a battery or two, and some solar panels (the fixed type on the wings, probably.) A probe core would be very similar in weight to the command chair-pilot combination, but the chair has comedic value. Flying lawnchairs, anyone?
I might enter a boat into the run. But it'll take forever to get through the course. Especially turning a lot. It definitely has the fuel capacity but it can't break 100 m/s in its current configuration. A variant broke Mach 1 but that was purely a record attempt, not a racing boat that can function in a river. Speaking of which, I would love to see you try to make a *fast* boat.
strike on enemy HQ Rules 1. a large amount of SAM and AA lining the course useing BD AROMORY placement is up to you 2. a mix of 50 SAM/AA Emplacements more if your computer can handle it 3. I want to try something related, and in very Bradley Whistance style. Not to mention it won't require halfway reasonable piloting skills. I fly most of my missions with MechJeb Smart A.S.S surface angle buttons...
One of my favorite movie is Les Chevaliers Du Ciel. I guess I can make the long run with a replica of Mirage 2000, and beat the Americans. What if I walked underwater with that walker I got?
on the old monte karlo course, i accidentally passed the 400 meters right at the end because i was only paying attention to kerbal engineers biome indicator. if i would have used an airplane that could do it in just a few minutes i would have retried, but i was mainly going for asthetics and my craft is extremely slow because lots of draggy parts, juno engines, and weird centers of mass, lift and thrust. and completed it in almost an hour. do i really need to do it again to qualify?
I wanted to participate but i use a phone and i dont have ksp :(. But in the future i wanted to do this and posot it on youtube by: My plane inside a carrier plane and drop my plane around the beggining of the start and my carrier plane will deactivate engines and deploy parachutes on the carrier plane and i just focus on the jet im gonna be using :)
Is it ok to use the Mission Builder to create a launchpad near the start of the course? My design uses a...questionable launch procedure that is difficult to move.
Ideas of mission: _fly-by all the planets and moons of the stock game with less than 1000 m/s of delta-V from LKO _reach the highest altitude possible with propellers (I personnaly broke 23 800 m) _RESCUE BILL!!!!
can somebody tell me how to display drag-forces on parts when right-clicking them? sorry i'm a noob when it comes to mods. i'm happy i was able to install KER without deleting the internet
Non-stock parts and cheats (unlimited fuel etc.). Launching your aircraft into the course at a high speed. Flying higher than 400m (now I’m wondering if it’s possible to skip the course while staying below 400m, maybe even go around the other half of the globe). I guess in-flight refueling (though that could be fun). Staging and part clipping is allowed. Cheating to the start of the course is allowed. Landing at the start or end is not required (-> don’t bother with landing gear). A pilot is not required.
It's way too simple without FAR mod and high-AoA maneuvering. Basically it's gonna be 1970's low alt high speed AA penetration concept. Hope you try it at least, with some more advanced plane. Yet still, cool idea and good video :)
RIP to that one guy from the first challenge that used only SRBs for his whole run, whom Bradley insisted do the same again if he ever did a second challenge

Well fuck

With 8 and half minutes of thrust with starting twr of 0,4 for raw booster, i think its manageable, but it would have to be huge

Someone has got to fly a Saturn 5 through this
Challenge accepted! ( 99% Fail )
is it even possible?
I'm planning to do a 747 run
If i have ksp ima use starship for this lol
Done!
You can detect biome changes in vanilla with a surface scanner!

Dam you really burnt through 32,000 m/s delta v. And if you fly faster you need more. If I do this challenge I might just stage some fuel tanks.
Someone make a minimalist version pls😅
Minimal electrical prop, so you don't have to worry 'bout fuel
How about I do it in my Cessna Skyhawk (2-4 tons)

@@robinsuj ok I'm probably going to use the decoupler kraken drive to push me through this.

May not get time at all, but in theory can one enter multiple times?
Say, a serious run to set a good time and a run with an inventive vehicle?
Sure!
That is a really nice type of competition! I'd love to see more of them!! Maybe also on different planets!

Is staging okay? Like drop tanks or shedding parts of your plane?
After reading the doc I'll assume I'll just need to make a new class for such a type
