Hey Andre, very interesting collection! In regards to your custom guitar: my favourite "genre" of youtube videos are what you could call "learning journeys" (tough to put a name on it!) where the content creator sets himself a goal (for example working out a set of indian classical music fit for public performance) and then we get a kind of practice/creation log over a period of time (most often done over a series of videos) working towards that goal. Basically we get taken along for the ride and get to see the good, the bad and the ugly including all the reflection on progress or setbacks, the potential shifting of goals etc. One example that comes to my mind is the series of videos on learning touch guitar by the drum youtuber @ShawnCrowder but there are many examples that I don't quite have at hand right now. I think that style of content would be a great fit for you since you are so reflected and have obviously put a lot of thought into the mechanics of learning/teaching and self-development. Wow, nice collection. I feel a little bit better about my guitar hoarding and all the boxes in my garage. I've been thinning the herd in recent months, so I'm down to about 15 quality guitars. Needed to expand some of my other gear, so I've been trading with Guitar Center and getting deep discounts on new gear to curb the losses. Just didn't have the patience to deal with Reverb. hey fludd! ive enjoyed your videos quite a bit, and loved your content and reviews a lot. while not the topic of the video, i have a question i believe you can answer. ive been playing for 10+ years at this point. my playing has been highly tailored to blues and classical guitar. ive been trying to introduce myself more to jazz phrasing, walking up and down scales and chord progressions. how do i transition my sound and riffs towards a jazz sound? i keep falling back (mostly out of habit) to common bluessy riffs, catching myself staying on a bb. king'ish style of soloing. i do understand that this will come naturally from listening to more stuff and studying more, but when trying to play with progressions i keep falling into the same habits. any tips to get past this? thank you!!!
I was recently commenting asking if you've played an Ormsby. I'm not a big 6 string guy, but do you still got the RC-one? I would love to buy it and get your signature!
I used to have an Ibanez Holdsworth ah20. He really upped his game with the carvin signature models, it's like Ibanez couldn't be bothered to try with his guitar...
Thank you, Dr. Fludd, another brilliant video! I lust after your new number 1, AND the sTele (Klein is such a brilliant luthier it saddens he didn't make it easy to adjust the neck), AND the "Fat Boy" (of course!). I appreciate your mini-tour of guitars as well as the "storage dilemma!" I also appreciate your honsty and natural humor - although long-retired, I always felt that mandatory meetings only irritated the work-force and (almost deliberately) got squarely in the way of production! I agree with you (and informed management in no uncertain terms) that the information could have been passed more efficiently by electonic mail, and before that by official letter. Finally, I agree with you that the Carvin Holdsworth begs a "shoot-out" comparison video. Someone please loan your "whammy" Holdsworth to Dr. Fludd for an epic comparison!
Speaking of short lived metal bands featuring stellar players, Tosin Abasi was in a band called Reflux and it was off the rails in a good way (from what footage exists). Be cool for him to pick it back up as a side project and throw some more just straight up in your face don't think about it metal out, even if it's just remastered/upgraded old tunes. He can vibe hard and fast with the best of them but like artists such as Devin Townsend most people haven't witnessed his capability for high quality extreme metal that lies in the past, laying dormant, waiting to be unleashed or remain forever muted.
Nice! I passed up a deal on an Ormsby it was beautiful but I tried it and just could not play it. Never played a fan fret guitar and I sounded pretty bad. Still kind of suck with a 7 string and I just got a fretless 6 string and I plan to add frets. I have a huge collection I need to take inventory but somewhere between 185 to 190 and keep saying I am going to sell some but just can't do it. The worse is I keep buying them when I come across a great deal. My collection has taken over a majority of my apartment.
Whenever I see you play something like Rock or close to it, I feel you play it with so much more passion as opposed to when you do jazzy noodling. I'd love to see you play more of the former. It just feels more authentic and passionate. Please include more of your playing in videos and I'm sure more people will watch. Maybe you could do a short 30 sec to 1min playing at the start of the video like Rotem Sivan does. Love your videos ❤
I've been to jazz guitar school and I've seen so many people lose their originality in order to fit into the cookie cutter jazz guitarist persona. Please don't lose your own soulful playing and originality. It is what makes you, you. I hope you understand and don't take this the wrong way :)
Do you intend on eventually bringing the "patreon-review" guitars to UA-cam? I fully intend on being a supporter in the future, but unfortunately I'm unemployed in the moment. Great stuff as always Andre! Always a great pleasure to watch yet another video!
I appreciate that! So the Patreon reviews won’t be on UA-cam. They are unscripted, loose, very few edits. BUT every guitar you see in this video will eventually get one or two polished UA-cam videos. It will just take a few months.
Hey andre! If you post a video, i will watch it. Keep up the good work, and i hope the youtube guitar community follows. Ive been looking for a parker nitefly since your video!
I think you're the only person I've ever seen bring up Outworld. Lol that album was insane. Rusty Cooley rules and needs to make more music. Im also super jealous you have the Rusty Cooley signature but as much as i am that you have the Shawn Lane Vigier.
Ahoy Andre! I discovered your channel while going through a bit of a rut where I've been playing for 16 years but all I pull off are a few simple chords and a few simple leads. I know 39$ for your lessons aren't going to contribute that much towards your regular purchases, but I hope they contribute quite a bit more to my own re-learning of the guitar! I've a suggestion for you w.r.t the cheaper guitars like your 199$ Strat (Squier Sonic?) - either buy them used and try to fix 'em up yourself using basic tools, or visit a store in-person and see what plays the best there. These guitars tend to have poor QC issues so there'll be a lot of gems and a lot of duds in every batch. It'll be good for wannabe players who don't know WHAT to look for in their first instrument to be walked through by a seasoned guitarist. Or even better, take someone from your city shopping for their first guitar (on Reverb, at a local guitar store, or both?) and videograph that!
I've got that exact same Ibanez bass. It is amazing. I use it on everything I record. I put some guitar fetish pickups in it because the originals were kinda dull in mine, but I did buy it used and it had some electronics issues. It's perfect for my arthritic fingers.
Great video! Looks like I’ll have to buy the Becker stickers since you’re not going to sell your black Parker. Your custom guitar is amazing! Where are you going to list guitars for sale?
Andre, you got way more than me! & way more $ invested, only my Schecter sold new for over $1000, But I’ve also got a small space, it’s my living room, my bedroom and my studio, all in one! 18’ x 22’ and they all stay in their cases, unless I’m playing them, made me laugh, wall to wall🤣. In my case, I’ve modified all of them, to one degree or another, so some I’ve more $ invested in them than the initial $1000. It’s been a fun journey, and yes, it’s very hard to play 12 guitars and a bass😄😄 with any regularity.
I'd actually recommend a 5 string bass. Even if don't plan on using the extra string the smaller string spacing makes it feel closer to guitar, especially when playing with a pick
Selling excess guitars is a real pain. Photos , ad’ packing and dispatch takes about half a day each. Always say returns accepted - else if someone doesn’t like it they will knock a chunk out of it so they can claim it was damaged 😬
@@andrefludd I knew you would ! Would like to see a video showing how to get the most out of the Parker or any guitar with a Piezo. So many player just run it into their guitar amp and miss out on so much sound.
I really hope one of the upcoming reviews is for a bc rich beast it has e erything you like (floating trem, strandberg like playing position, no fan) and would be perfect for the metal experiment.
My son is learning sitar and plays guitar too. I’m fascinated by that hybrid instrument and would love to hear what it can do. Do you like Niladri Kumar’s fusion?
One thing you should know about the Carvin Holdsworth guitar is that the 20-inch fretboard radius is somewhat rendered moot by the tune-o-matic bridge, which is set to a 12-inch radius. This was something that really annoyed Allan - that and the fact that these guitars were neck heavy. The headless designs are much better, in my opinion, but if you decide to pick one up used, make sure it was built AFTER the transition from Carvin to Kiesel. The older Carvin versions have the terrible JCustom bridges. The newer Kiesel models have the Hipshot trems, which are a huge improvement.
@19:41 those negative comments on the Gibson video are worth it tho. Never play authentic. I'm with you I can't jive with gibsons when there are companies offering better, more up to date and often times more affordable alternatives.
Oh yea it doesn’t bother me at all lol. People who are boring don’t get negative comments. They also don’t get nearly the amount of positive support I get. I’m so grateful for people like you who regularly comment and give me ideas, remind me to do metal tones and so on :)
@andrefludd hey you do some of the best work on here. And I appreciate your willingness to fine tune your reviews to your audience. Being a guy who's main genres are Jazz and Djent but primarily works as a film composer it's sometimes hard to find reviews that cover all the tones I'm trying to cover.
15:40 this is something I think about too. I have five guitars, 2 amps, hx stomp, and a moderate board + 5 or 6 stray pedals and space / maintenance already sucks. I’m more of a hobbyist these days so there’s something to be said for just getting the endgame of what I like. Seriously considering selling up for an axe fx + Aristides instead!
Bro, I did not realize that those inlays on your Parker fly you did yourself? I love that. I always thought they were like Jason Becker but I didn’t know if they were stock on that guitar. You should talk about how you did those inlays in the video if you haven’t already, maybe I missed it.
Also, I feel you on having only less than 5 core guitars. That’s kind of where I’m at right now and I just keep buying and selling stuff and I’ve only really kept two of my guitars on the long term I just get bored easily unless I really really love an instrument.
Yea man, they are actually just stickers lol. There's a bunch of company that make stick on inlays and they look pretty convincing. www.inlaystickers.com/products/jason-becker-numerals
Hey, weird question: Is it possible to request a review of a guitar? TL;DR: Pretty please, can you review the Guthrie Govan signature Charvel? I own a Gibson, and I'm really feeling the limitations of the Les Paul design, so I'm in the process of looking for a replacement, something like a super-strat. I've looked at a bunch of different designs and brands, but the one I'm currently _most_ interested in is the Guthrie Govan signature Charvel. My initial logic was "Hey, if it's good enough for Guthrie, it's not gonna be the guitar that's holding me back", but I don't actually know if that's true. I've looked for people giving their opinions on the guitar, but _all_ the *"reviews"* are essentially just "Hey, here are all the features, now buy it from us". I've seen a decent number of your videos at this point, and I absolutely _LOVE_ how thorough you are in your long-term reviews. Sooooo can you review it? Please? Pretty please? Pretty please with.... what do you americans say.... blueberries on top? Melons? What ever.... I've come to really respect and value your opinion on this, and your input would be really helpful. Thanks 😊 CHERRIES! Cherries on top!
I've played that Guthrie Govan and I almost bought it. Love it. I would also love to review it. I can't buy it right now, but maybe I can get one in the future.
My channel has def grown a ton since this video, and I’ve had many more opportunities like the PRS sponsorship. Unfortunately, I also dealt with a few small health things for a couple of months which dramatically impacted my plans. But I’m on track to hit some goals. Thanks for asking
The custom looked something AI generates when you ask it to come up with a futuristic guitar (vaguely but not fully understanding the features of a guitar). I'd have no idea what to do with it, but the wiring, the ergonomics, the whole package looks very well made.

Thanks for your comment and thank you for supporting on Patreon!
@@andrefludd You are welcome, but you deserve much more for your hard work and dedication. I pray for your success in reaching your goals.
What a fantastic video collection have a wonderful day also Saturday was Canada day
Speaking of short lived metal bands featuring stellar players, Tosin Abasi was in a band called Reflux and it was off the rails in a good way (from what footage exists).
It would be really interesting to see how you would play your custom guitar! Have not seen anything like this yet ...
I was looking for a clip and couldn't find one. I'm so out of practice but I will get back into it eventually!
Last guitar is amazing.
Locking tuners add weight to the headstock. I’ve switched back on my personal builds.
Love the Holdsworth.
I have plans to build an electric guitar/ sitar. with big arched sitar frets. In the middle of an electric harp guitar now.
I'd love to learn more from you ❤️🙏🏻
I appreciate that thank you!
Thanks for supporting and I hope you find one :)
That’s for all these great ideas! They will for sure go on the list! And thanks for picking up the course!

@@andrefluddthanks for the link, Dr Fludd!
It’s been a fun journey, and yes, it’s very hard to play 12 guitars and a bass😄😄
with any regularity.
Hope this works out for you! Love your work man. :)
what is the name of that gypsy jazz guitar??
I'd actually recommend a 5 string bass. Even if don't plan on using the extra string the smaller string spacing makes it feel closer to guitar, especially when playing with a pick
You're an interesting dude. I will subscribe and look forward to watching what you do.
I appreciate that! Right now it’s all about PRS SEs. The series just started :)
at 26:00 you say they're the biggest stainless steel frets you can buy, can you tell me what they're called and where from?
google Jescar Fret Wire 58118-s
Selling excess guitars is a real pain. Photos , ad’ packing and dispatch takes about half a day each.
Always say returns accepted - else if someone doesn’t like it they will knock a chunk out of it so they can claim it was damaged 😬
Do you sell your stuff on Reverb? If so, under what company name?

I think this video features the word "guitar" more than any other on the whole damn internet.
If you run the piezo from your Parker into an older Fishman Aura pedal, you will love the sound you get.
Yep. I've done it and I do love it!
That wasn’t on the list for the metal experiment but I am going to put it on now. No promises of course, but you def sparked my interest. Thank you!
My son is learning sitar and plays guitar too. I’m fascinated by that hybrid instrument and would love to hear what it can do. Do you like Niladri Kumar’s fusion?
He's a great player, but I generally like more traditional stuff oddly enough.
Great tips thank you! Maybe I should have the tune-o-matic bridge changed out. I don't find it comfortable either.
I have a headless Kiesel Holdsworth with his pickups- best sounding guitar I have- over my Suhr and my Tom Anderson.
hey andre what do you teach at uni?
"There's only so many guitars you can play"
Mmmmm citation needed for me 😅
is there any your video on the godin 5th avenue?
Not yet!
Hi do you still have that Red Steinberger headless?
Yes, but it's not for sale
Hope you do a video about it soon. 😊👍🏻
That would be a great combo. I have videos on both Axefx and Aristides if you are interested.
@@andrefludd I've watched both! Your insight was very useful :)
Steve Vai just started drooling for lalita lol.
From one New Yorker to another… I understand your struggle my brotha 😂😂 dope collection tho 🔥🔥
Ballsy move spending all your savings on the channel. I hope it continues to grow!
Life’s too short. Gotta give something my all 🤷🏾
How much for the Southern Nitefly?
If you are really interested, shoot me an email!
@@andrefludd oh shit bro they look awesome! Thanks for sending I’ll check it
Hey, weird question: Is it possible to request a review of a guitar?
TL;DR: Pretty please, can you review the Guthrie Govan signature Charvel?
I own a Gibson, and I'm really feeling the limitations of the Les Paul design,
so I'm in the process of looking for a replacement, something like a super-strat.
I've looked at a bunch of different designs and brands,
but the one I'm currently _most_ interested in is the Guthrie Govan signature Charvel.
My initial logic was "Hey, if it's good enough for Guthrie, it's not gonna be the guitar that's holding me back",
but I don't actually know if that's true.
I've looked for people giving their opinions on the guitar,
but _all_ the *"reviews"* are essentially just "Hey, here are all the features, now buy it from us".
Thanks 😊
CHERRIES! Cherries on top!
I've played that Guthrie Govan and I almost bought it. Love it. I would also love to review it. I can't buy it right now, but maybe I can get one in the future.
Have ever looked into Godin Summit Convertible?
Steve Vai understands.
Could you share if the investment paid off and was it a good idea?
Dont know if you have already shared this.
My channel has def grown a ton since this video, and I’ve had many more opportunities like the PRS sponsorship. Unfortunately, I also dealt with a few small health things for a couple of months which dramatically impacted my plans. But I’m on track to hit some goals. Thanks for asking
@@andrefludd Awesome, keep it up! I'm sure you'll achieve the goals if you are persistent.
The custom looked something AI generates when you ask it to come up with a futuristic guitar (vaguely but not fully understanding the features of a guitar). I'd have no idea what to do with it, but the wiring, the ergonomics, the whole package looks very well made.
Haha, I like you, dude. We've got the same taste in guitars!
You must be a cool dude :)
@@andrefludd likewise. You've actually inspired me to bite bullet and get a parker nitefly. Anything in particular I should look out for?
If UA-cam is all fake, how do we know this isn't just the same guitar photoshopped multiple times?! How, Andre?!?! HOW?!?!?!?!
I actually don't exist. I'm really just a combination of CGI and AI designed to keep you lusting over gear.
@@andrefludd It's a trap!
man that kaizen sure is pretty
there definitely is a way of organizing your guitars better
I hope youtube works out for u! Love the content
Just one gibson case I have is driving me nuts lol
So if you didn’t have you tube how many guitars would you have.
Maybe 4-7 probably. The Emi, something fixed bridge like the Klein, a couple acoustics, and maybe 1 or 2 others.
yo andre i got some content for you. was watching dave simpson and he recently tried a jet-js 300. said one of the best guitars he's played and its $200!
I used to have a parker tele style... ash body, maple fretboard, import for sure... piezo pick ups in the saddle. Made the stupidest guitar trade... haunts me till this day.
