I started watching this channel when I was considering buying a Kia stinger. It's great how often you feature it in your races. I ended up buying a 2022 GT1. I have kids so I needed a sedan. The stinger is a great balance of comfort, practicality and fun.

It’s hard to explain how good the Stinger is. If cars didn’t have Badges it would sell better. Racing a light sports car with more HP against a 4 door sedan and it holds its own.

Stinger continues to impress and yes we did have fun, after all, we didnt come all this way not to have fun! Still love the Z though, I'm glad we had this chance to run it against a variety of cars.

I have to say I absolutely love my 2018 Stinger Gt2 awd yes it’s modded quite a lot, but it’s so much fun to drive !!! I love how people come up to you and compliment you on how nice your car looks all the time !!! It lets you know you bought the right vehicle

@@selfmadejay01 what? The q50RS raved the g70 n was neck n neck lol……..tf u talkin about the stinger/g70 do 10s with just tune and bolt ons. A real ECU tune literally just came out this year. AMS been tuning the VR30 for a good while.
The stinger/g70 run the exact same times as the red sport bone stock and the red sport has damn near 40hp more n weighs less. The 3.3tt punches above its weight.
The Stinger is the best car. It is a benchmark. In most of Sam's races the Stinger is there. In this race is a coupe vs sedan. Apples vs Oranges.

I’m 75 miles away from being able to do launch control in my ‘23 Stinger GT2. I already love the car (minus the gas mileage 😂), can’t wait to see how it launches.
When it rains🤔 I've said from the beginning.... Z is a Torque monster, but a slippery one. It will be frightening.. I Experienced that same scary feeling in Maximas that I drove. Torque yes, Traction no... Why I enjoyed my G37x.

Love these videos with the Stinger. I have had a 2018 GT2 and now a 23 GT2. Have to say they are amazing cars. People watch these videos and think they can take you until they come across one modified running 500 AWHP running 0-60 in 3.2s. That is a totally different beast and a blast as a daily driver.
Would you say your 2018 and 2023 are equally fast? I heard someone say somewhere that the 2018s are slower. I’m looking to buy a used 2018 so I hope it’s not true
@@Symphoniics stock the 23 is a little faster. tunes and bolt ons then very little difference. The 18 with 18 inch wheels definitely rides better on the road.

@@Symphoniics overall excellent cars. No major issues, they didn't fix the front brakes till the 23 models. Can give a shake when braking. Check the forums for best type of pads for the front. 19 and up have the wrap around cameras.

Edit: Stinger has about 500lbs on the Z, and -32hp. That AWD hooks up and it's decently fast. Like they said, it's in a different category. Sportback vs Sports Car (5 seater vs 2 seater coupe).
Firstly, if you start to Frankenstein some mods to the Stinger, they've proven to be robust up to 420-500hp (not to mention carbon fiber weight reduction) . It's got a big ceiling for improvement.
Secondly, the Z needs better tires. There's no getting around that, but being a Nissan, the aftermarket is going to be extremely plentiful. (Smokey Nagata is already cooking up some magic.) They were smart to use the TT V6, because I think with just a tune and some tires it could definitely start punching up in sport's car brackets.

The Z already had a great starting point for aftermarket support, since it has the same engine as the Infiniti Q50 and Q60 Red Sport.
Great race! Always loved the Stinger, but the Z is very impressive with the 9spd. Very glad they finally upgraded the trans, definitely a game changer. Don't know why they don't put this trans in the Q50/Q60.
Stinger is much heavier.The z isnt that impressive given the extra horsepower and much light er weight .A tuned Stinger will rape it badly.
@@camirocz I mean the Z very easily walks it once it gets traction, only makes 35hp more and makes 25 ft. Lbs. less. So, the weight difference is the main benefit. Yes, I'd hoped a tuned one would beat it. Tune the Z and back to square one. Keeping in mind it's 3.0 vs. 3.3.
@@RevsALot nothing impressive given the weight difference . I m tuning my Stinger this spring once o pull it out of storage and it will run high 11 s . I ran the quickest stock time of any stinger so far 12.56 at 108.83 mph . The car with an extra 100 hp will get the top end push it desperately needs .

Still doesn't change the fact that I find the Z impressive compared to the old transmission they had. Also, they're already in the 9s, and just came out this year.

The car doesn’t even have Mode options , it’s basically 370z with VR swap and face lift , all sports cars these days have adaptive suspension with different Modes , even the new 9AT is the worst in the game comparing to ZF8 or A10 in thr ford and Gm cars

Sam, just buy a Stinger already, since they're discontinuing them. Best Car all around. Z might be a wee bit quicker, but overall every day car, man, Stinger is the car you're not going to regret, oh is a rough ride, or not enough room, etc... and lets not forget, even without a tune and crazy mods, just little mods, like I did on mine (drop in K&N filters, snorkels & lower gap plugs, thats it), you can get .3 secs. faster 1/4 mile, to give the little extra, and then there's tunes and mods that blow the Stinger past cars that are already super tuned from factory and dont have as much play aftermarket

I've had my 2018 launch month Stinger GT RWD all this time. (and for those who don't know: YES there is a RWD Stinger trim. It's the base model GT with the 3.3L. The only difference between the GT and GT1 is the drivetrain and some things like a bigger infotainment screen, and I think a Harmon Kardon sound system.). I love it and have beaten cars you wouldn't believe. I'm not going to specify them because people give me heck for it and think I am full of crap. I have ran an AWD yellow ed. Stinger, though, and we tied. So even though everyone on UA-cam keeps using AWD Stingers for races they are accurate for both drivetrains, in a straight line, and in clear weather. I'm not surprised the Stinger out does the Z in a straight.
I will take the Stinger.....back seat a trunk and nicer interior and the transmission is better.

The stinger did the exact same thing to the mustang and scatpack and it actually beat those two in its first race where as the z won. The z is fine, just admit the stinger is suprisingly quick.
I run these Potenzas in 18" on my MKIV Supra with only about 500whp. They're comparable to PS4S I ran prior from a roll with obviously neither giving traction from a dig. I need 15" M/T Street Rs WITH a burnout AND prepped dragstrip surface for that. IMO, the Zs traction issue appears to be with its LSD or complete lack of any LSD in the base model. Regardless, expecting any higher hp RWD car to get perfect traction from a dig on non R-Comp tires is delusional, especially with an open differential.
It needs more than PS4S tires. It probably needs R888R or the equivalent.
Good race. Didn't expect the stinger to take 1 roll and = dig. That's just show you guys how good that sportback is. 35 less hp and 700lbs heavier. Love my 2020 stinger. Best sportback for the money.

If you want to price match the Z, use the money difference to upgrade the stinger turbos and tune. You’ll end up with 550 ponies.

Looks like the Z needs wider and stickier rear tires, which would fix the launch traction problem. As a Maxima Special Edition owner I can relate to the difficulty the Z maintaining traction off the line ... honestly I'm not sure if any high power stock Nissan that isn't the GT-R doesn't have that problem. You can see the Z absolutely smokes the Stinger in the 2nd gear rolling race. Also, mad props to Nissan for the VR's engine noise and exhaust note. My VQ singing is still one of my favorite sounds.

The stinger is definitely a little underrated, people just hate it so much because it’s a Kia (ehem, VW audi fan bois). However it’s just too damn heavy even in its own segment it’s still on the heavier side. And ive always been a Z fan ever since the 350 era so good to see these two cars racing together.
I came from a tuned Mk7 Golf R and the Stinger has been an upgrade overall. I just miss the Vdub community :(

I actually really liked the Stinger GT. I was looking at one and was very close to getting one, but the quality of the S5 sportback stole me the moment I sat in it. But the Stinger is one hell of a car with all that it offers.

The Stinger weighs 629 lbs more with less horsepower, so it's actually impressive it was able to keep up with the 400Z. Put the Stinger's engine/trans combo in a lighter car (lighter than the G70) and you'd have a real winner! Perhaps a G70 coupe, anyone?

@@conradsealy9603 We can overlook that fact, yes, but it shouldn't be the case. The Z should come with a good LSD from the factory. The 350Z and 370Z did, so no excuse for the 400Z not to.

The stinger did good for a 4 door car. I love mine. Too bad you aren't closer to California. I would let you use my 19 stinger. Spent like 1,500k and it's pretty quick with a few mods. Hks spark plugs, aem intakes, resonator and muffler delete and jb4 tune on e30 and this car moves. Plus mine is rwd, so it should be a little quicker then the awd. Don't have issues with spinning much off the line. But for the money I couldn't find another 4 door that was quick at that price with low mileage. The charger scat pack was close but was 5k more.

This is an irrelevant but fun video. You all know that Kia has discontinued the Stinger, right? I have to wonder about a car company that has 0 respect for it's heritage. You can trace most German models back to their early roots just by looking at them. Example a BMW 5 series. Kia has changed their logo, their grills so many times it's ridiculous. It's almost as if they suffer from an identity crisis, LMAO!
4 pot cars beat them to the line, so yes.. Korean cars have very little heritage. The Germans and Japanese heritage is insane.

For example, Kia Optima that has been developed over two decades. Stinger is their first sport sedan that rivals with BMW 3 series called in many drag race reviews like Sam's. Check how many times Stinger appeared in his videos. KIA.shifted their paradigm on Stinger to EV6 as they ramp up to EV effort. You can't compare EV6 to Civic, not in the same level of cars. Likewise you can't say BMW 5 series is affordable to you. Affordablity is relative concept. EV6 GT is half price of Porsche Taycan but has faster 0-60. Someone other than you can say $88,000 is affordable in that sense.
I had a Stinger GT. They have crazy torque low down in the RPM range, that's why it launches so hard. But it dies down on the top end.
I’ve owned 2 stingers and I try and tell people the 0-60 keeps up with most cars because of the crazy low end torque but people just talk crap because they can’t afford one lol. Does die down almost instantly .
Unless your tuned. I beat most v8s up top very easily

The rolls are basically a test of which trans kicks down faster then a actual race , I test drove a Z proto spec if you have it in the manual paddle shift mode it will hold it's gears without shifting so that's odd

I'm not understanding why you raced these 2 cars against each other. In my opinion, it's kind of silly. I would understand racing the new Nissan 400z against a new Toyota Supra or even a Lexus RC. The Kia Stinger should race something similar to its specific own class like a BMW 4 series Sport Grand Coupe 4 door or the Porsche Panamera 4 door or something similar to that of its unique 4 door "coupe" class.
Always option out automatic version for comparison unless it's a all manual transmission comparison.

Show us Rwd vs Rwd and Awd vs Awd. That Stinger might have won had it not been for the added weight of the all-wheel-drive system. Who knows? It would have definitely made for a more accurate comparison though.

It's important to note that kia had a really sloppy trans controller and launch control. A driver mod can fix both of these but you MUST manual shift the stinger at 5500 rpm or else you'll lose every time.

I like the channel but yes, the Stinger is heavier. However, it is also a 4 door family car and has less RPM's. I think it best to race the Stinger against similar cars or at least talk about all features of each car for a full comparison.
And i can fit 5 6' adults in my stinger

I'd like to see how my 2018 Jaguar XE S holds up against this Z. The Jag is 380hp and AWD and lighter than the Stinger. Would be a little interesting

Why is Nissan/INFINITI so bad with choosing tires for their sports cars. I have a Q60, and in many Q50/60 forums/pages, one of the main complaints was those horrible Dunlop runflats they would come with from factory.

Picked up a 2018 Stinger GT1 (middle trim) for 37k with 30k miles. Amazing bargain, less bells and whistles than the GT2 but the same power. Feels amazing.
I recently purchased 2019 gt1 16k miles for 36k 🤯

Sam you summoned that up so well in the end !!! A 5 seat (4 seater comfortably) compared to a 2 seater which one costs roughly 4-5k more. Again for the price the KIA is a winner hands down and for another 5k in mods added to it it becomes a really fast car. Thanks as always Sam for another great Video my friend 😊
