@@layne4376 The M340i is on the same level as the Stinger. However, it’s at the top of that level, it’s superior with the B58 and ZF but it’s also $10k more equally spec’d (here in the US). You’d also be paying much more in maintenance/insurance while not having a hatch or a 10yr warranty. The M440i is a closer comparison but that’s even more expensive.

Did you do the drags in launch mode though? Makes a big difference. Also, in my 2020 Stinger GT2 all I have to do to put it in manual is flip the shifter over to the left when in Drive and you can either use the paddles or the shifter.
I owned a Talbot back in the 80's that had the same rep as a Kia today. Have you seen the asking price now for a Talbot Sunbeam 👍 Things that don't sell well today are tomorrows pension funds.
I worked for Kia. I don't like the brand but damn there well built. I've worked from VAG and Benz, cheap plastic crap comparing the build quality. Only time will show. That car will NEVER rattle.
I get pulled up almost everyday by random people asking questions or telling me how much they love my stinger. Never driven a car with strangers constantly given compliments. Stinger is great love love it ! So fast I have rwd version it destroys cars 4 times its price.
These are very under the radar cars - you can't even say under rated, becuase everyone seems to love them, I've not seen anything bad about them at all, and they are very much on my radar. The gearbox can't be held in manual mode unfortunately, having seen a few mentions of this. The other slightly annoying thing for rivals, is that these GTSs don't really seem to give any problems either! 😅
In 2019 they introduced a few tweaks including for it to be held in manual for as long as you want in Sport mode. Sightly louder exhaust, flush looking screen, ambient lighting, more HUD info and a couple of other bits. Worth getting a 2019 onwards if you can. They are awesome cars!

When you look at the BMW440i vs the Kia Stinger GTS. It looks close. When you look at the actual performance it is close. When you look at reliability it’s not close. BMW is now known for high cost of Maintenance. Once you factor in the Warranty it is a no brainer. Clear win for KIA especially considering total cost of ownership. Hopefully saying you own a BMW will give you enough pull with your friends to close the distance!
I have a 2019 gt1. It's been great and had 100k. The best car I've owned and I'm 57. Hatch back makes it practical the leather interior looks perfect and no rattle or any other problems. I'm sad i can't buy another new one.
Only 2019 and up stay in manual. You cant move the selector over to the left or right, it's a digital selector. The gearbox goes back into auto if you don't change gear for a certain amount of time or if you stop, so if you were on a track for example it would remain in manual ultimately
Work for BCA, got a Mercedes EQC AMG 400 premium in the morning then my carry over is a this exact same car! Apparently the engine was co development by the fella who over seen the M projects at BMW. My dad had a bardo grey one in Germany as a company car has lots of fun on the autobahn
My boss in work has one in white. It really does look good. Forget the badge. This is a proper motor. 7 year warranty.... should have been well more popular than they were. And everyone who bought one did love them.
That looks a great car. If you're not a car snob, it will probably be even more reliable than a BMW. I am pretty certain, to get a BMW spect up to the same level, would cost a lot more than £45,000. Probably nearer £50,000 new. So the Kia stinger, is excellent value for money, as well.
I had a 2016 Kia Sportage 2.0 AWD honestly the best car I’ve owned… literally was specced to the hills, heated seats all round front cooled seats opening pan roof, self parking, the lot. Now I recommend to nearly everyone they should at least check Kia’s.
I have etron with buttons on the face and a real hassle as when you sit down etc boot opens, sometimes windows and sunroof open due to pressure, this doesn't happen with buttons on the side, great idea.
That's like Golf GTI drivers saying the Hyundai I30N isn't any good as it flies past them lapping them.....again. Also KIA has 7 year warranty and I bet the BMW needed fixing just after its 3 year warranty (ABS or electrical fault). Personally I don't like the look of the KIA. A least you wouldn't cut up other drivers like all BMW drivers do.
This AWD or the Giulia AWD? Do you think stability and traction control and limited slip differentials are enough to keep a rear wheel drive car from tailspinning. I watch so many Mustang, Charger, BMW and other rear wheel drive crash "shorts". It seems to me irrelevant the slip differential because of the way the power to the rear wheels just keep sending it in the direction you originally pointed, no matter how much correction takes place. In the 1970s, cars I drove with rear wheel drive were too underpowered to cause much harm (not musclehead Camaros or Mustangs). All the crash data suuports that the Mustang is the most fatal car. Easy to see why with rear wheel drive and lots of power.
I like these , I’d say this is an upgrade on a Range Rover sport , not the other way about ! Had a look on the webdite can’t see this , had it sold already ?
The point of these cars was to hark back to the 90's JDM scene. Out of the factory it's a standard quick car. But spend 20% of the purchase price on upgrades to the tune, exhaust and turbo's and all of a sudden you have a proper beast.

The question of how good and durable the Kia Stinger is, has been answered. The Stinger has been appreciating in value, let that sink in. That's more than you can say for almost all BMW'S.
Congrats! Of the many who have reviewed this car you are the ONLY ONE who at least mentioned the lack of full "Manual Mode". I own the car and imho it is the single (but important) downer to what could have been a great GT car. Comfort is there. The AKardon system is very good. Car is roomy and practical. Good build quality. Plenty of power. Good growl (maybe a bit bland in EOM form, but twinkable). But the transmission is a dog... way below the general level of the car. Gearchanges are not GT smooth. Not even in Comfort mode. The shift 4th to 5th is really shameful. The ZF unit which is basically standard on BMWs and even on Alfas is in another planet. Then there is the TCU programming... I can still understand the shift quality... maybe Kia just doesn't have the technology. And they insisted in using their stuff rather than outsorcing. Ok, I can understand. But TCU programming? The Sport mode is seriously annoying. The shifts are even more jerky and the rev points are a bit nonsensical. Well, I wouldn't care too much about it, if I could at least put it in Manual Mode, right? Except... you cannot!!! You have manual mode in basically any car nowadays, even workvans. And Kia deceides not to give you Manual Mode in a GT? Why, Kia, why? If the car was a dog, I would not suffer much, but the car is good... very good, makes you want to drive: downshft, pick your gear and your revs. You can do it "for a little" then at some random point... game over: back to drive. As a side-downer: you cannot drive it in Sport Mode (stiffer suspension) on the highway, unless you want to drive the whole journey in 7th rather than 8th gear. Yep... no 8th in Sport mode... kkkk Thanks Kia. Dumbest TCU ever! But hey... you have Launch Control (wtf...?) Brakes have theis issues too. Again, easy for Kia to fix, but... Conclusion: The Stinger is a sales flop. Some blame it on the badge. Maybe... but to me the flop is in the idea of having a GT with the right looks and power but with lousy control interface (shift and brakes) that kills the driving pleasure. It is just nonsense, and the market is telling us just that: few sales and terrible resale value.

why don't dealers seem to know the difference between a pan roof and a sun roof? so many ads in auto trader say pan roof when it's just a sun roof.
As an owner I've been looking into a 440i/340i and I'm a BMW man myself but you get so much more in the stinger, spec, attention everywhere, kids love it, adults love it, LSD from factory for the the 340i and 440i isn't quite on the same level granted build quality is better in a BMW but the Kia has done one hell of a job to show what they can do, a guy who used to build M cars actually done a lot of work on these stingers (forgot his name) but the car has really good feedback compared to a non M BMW, also had an Audi designer for the interior
The M440i is a closer comparison but that’s even more expensive.
i think most 440i gc from 2018 would have analogue dials. that most likely has more features than one, or at least more as standard. the bmw wouldnt have apple carplay/andriod auto, wouldnt have cooled seats. lots of the bmws would even be missing things like cruise control and electric seats from standard
From an early 90's Kia Pride to this!
Much like Skoda in regards to how much they've got their stuff sorted
Best Kia from that time i believe was Sonata, Skoda in the beginning was on top of their game in development apartment.
Enjoyed the video Calvin thanks. I have had a Stinger for two years and its been great both on short trips and long motorway cruising. Cheers 👍

@@alexlee-isted5046 Hi. Are you sure about the post 2019 Manual and Sport mode? I bought mine (2018) used from KIA Portugal and they said the same, but it was not true...
@@jacopovalentino in the UK it is definitely true. If you have a 2018 that is pre 2019 so will not hold manual mode. You need a 2019+ for full manual mode in Sport
@@alexlee-isted5046 Do you think that changing the TCU for a newer one would allow Manual Mode (in Sport - as I understand)? I live in Portugal. A post 2019 would be practically impossible to find.
never thought Calvin's purchase of the week would be a kia stinger
Best car on the channel yet for me. It's something different that beats the German brands.
Usually you have to move the gear lever to the right to be in manual mode to benefit from the padels shift on the steering wheel.
Only 2019 and up stay in manual. You cant move the selector over to the left or right, it's a digital selector. The gearbox goes back into auto if you don't change gear for a certain amount of time or if you stop, so if you were on a track for example it would remain in manual ultimately
@@mattthompson8363 👍🏻 in my 2020 sportage dct is like that. Thanks for the reply.
That other Kia you passed Calvin has some impressive numbers 577 bhp and 0 to 60 in around 3.5 seconds it’s a Kia ev6 gt
it was not an ev6 gt. it was an ev6 gt line… not a gt. big big difference
Sad nerd fact, it wasn’t even a GT Line, it was an Air, the base model. Only got 225bhp.

They have created a fantastic car, looks great and so many toys.
Nice review Calv, mixing it up, impressed with that GTS, tbh didn't know much about them 👍
My BMW does that with the manual mode, if you put it in manual but don’t actually change the gears for a while it’s switches back to auto
Awesome content as always, never really looked at a Kia like that until now!

My boss in work has one in white. It really does look good. Forget the badge. This is a proper motor. 7 year warranty.... should have been well more popular than they were. And everyone who bought one did love them.

Great video and super helpful for me as I’m considering one of these. 😊.

Which manufacturer has the best warranty and why ...and which one is always at the bottom for reliability BMW
Factory limited slip diff also. But 6000 mile service intervals
7 year warranty
That's like Golf GTI drivers saying the Hyundai I30N isn't any good as it flies past them lapping them.....again. Also KIA has 7 year warranty and I bet the BMW needed fixing just after its 3 year warranty (ABS or electrical fault). Personally I don't like the look of the KIA. A least you wouldn't cut up other drivers like all BMW drivers do.
Did you not launch it? Couldn't make out if you were in launch mode or not.
Saw one of these in blue a week ago driving back up on the M40. Looked awesome.
The rear/ rear lights are a bit Maserati Ghibli esque
Servicing interval on these is every 6 months😬but they are absolutely lovely cars. They done a 200bhp Ceed GT too. Fantastic spec.
I like these , I’d say this is an upgrade on a Range Rover sport , not the other way about !
Had a look on the webdite can’t see this , had it sold already ?
It's on Autotrader, £26k
The point of these cars was to hark back to the 90's JDM scene. Out of the factory it's a standard quick car. But spend 20% of the purchase price on upgrades to the tune, exhaust and turbo's and all of a sudden you have a proper beast.
The 6k service intervals when they launched in 2018 put me off buying one. Has that changed?
no its still 6k intervals to maintain warranty but they are just oil and filter change, have mine done every 5k for £90

I deliberately didn’t watch this, for a couple of days, in case you hated it. I was astonished at the power figures, when a colleague had one a few years ago. But for it to compare so favourably on residual values as well…..and no disrespect to BMW, but a lot of that kit would cost a chunk of change…….breathtaking value if you ask me. 😳
GTS is the highest spec Stinger not low spec at all.
That spec and GT2 spec you cant keep it in manual but the GT1 and GT spec you can.
The car also has launch control that you didnt use it seems.
The Stinger was developed by M Division Albert Biermann when he left BMW and went to KIA/Hyundai.
Not saying the Stinger GT is better than a M series BMW... But, made by the same mind behind the M series.. As someone who got the option to drive these months before they hit the market... Loved the way Kia was heading.. Even the Hyundai brand with the G70.. Both come with the 3.3 Twin Turbo.. and optional AWD..

These Stingers are big too, not so keen on the side looks. Will the Range Rover customer regret their part exchange?
I believe the GTS model was only in Federation Orange...
For the money the performance is decent definitely notice the difference between a premium brand like an m car or amg but it is a decent motor for £
The question of how good and durable the Kia Stinger is, has been answered. The Stinger has been appreciating in value, let that sink in. That's more than you can say for almost all BMW'S.
I'd say that's definitely got a hint of red in it.
July birthdays 💪🏻 mines the 25th... The kia is quite a nice looking motor and pretty nippy too! Anoyh r great video calv and happy easter mate
My 2018 gt stays in manual mode when I put it into drive then I can slide the stick over into manual mode. Trans is decent not great but overall great car
@@damianlou9617 I guess in the US you could still buy a GT "1" in 2018. With the good old-style gear lever. In Europe they only ever sold the "GT2" (which is called just GT here...) with the so called electronic gear lever. You cannot slide the stick in theses...
would u have that kia or a bently continetal for the same price
stupid comparison. the kia even at this age and price point has 2 years warranty left, is unlikely to go wrong, costs less to run, is aimed at a completely different customer, has 5 doors and 5 seats meaning its way more practical, less on insurance, less on tax. any bentley youre getting for 26k is at least 13 years old, costs a shit tonne to upkeep, is likely to go wrong (and when it does will cost stupid amounts to fix), more to tax, more to insure and has less spec. theres more to a car than just it’s market value y know…
