If people genuinely think that Kia is bad and low spec just because it's a Kia then they aren't real petrolheads 😂 Idk how people still fall for badge snobbery in 2023
People must impress others with there lease cars
It’s not a bad car it’s just that the c43/s4/440i all look and sound a lot better. It’s not badge snobbery, just preference
@@4xbuu Looks are personal preference but they do sound better then the stinger. But it is the badge, even if the stinger sounded better and looked better people wouldn't buy it. jeremey clarkson gave it a great review but he said what would the neighbours think if you parked a Kia on the drive. A lot of the customers i work for as a auto electrician can barley afford the finance for their German cars but they do to keep appearance up.
Still a Kia, no matter what Kia’s just aren’t built to the solid quality that a German car is.
@@matthewcoupeofficial Proper German build quality got left in the eighties. In reality today, they are no better than most other brands. Big high res. touch screens and some soft touch dash materials shouldn't fool anyone though it seems to work because buyers get sucked in by the badge.
Fun fact. The guy that designed the Audi A7, also designed this.
He finaly designed a Cool looking car then 😂😂😂
Pretty sure Kia/Hyundai took a load of BMW engineers and designers a few years ago. I know for a fact they took Albert Biermann (from BMW M). Probably explains why these are so good and the latest BMW’s errrrr aren’t! Shame nobody bought them….
Had my red GTS for 2.5 years now and stuck 35k miles on it. Stick a new exhaust on it to make it sound like a proper V6 and it is one hell of a car. Absolutely love mine and will be holding on to it for years. Brilliant and underrated car and genuinely turns heads everywhere. Pick a 440i with the same spec as the Stinger and I bet you could stick another £8k to that list price which makes that depreciation hit look even greater. The 440i Calvin chose looked like a base spec model for comparison
Does exhaust void warranty?
@@mrdbzmaster5 it will void the warranty on the exhaust yes but the rest of the car would still be in tact. If something went wrong with a headlight you could still claim on that with zero issue
I'm about 2 day away from getting a stinger and never thought I'd consider a kia but as a value for money vehicle with a bit of pep.. I'm super impressed. I'll keep it for 2 yrs and them look at a Genesis G80 touring.. Nice post
Which exhaust did you install mate?
@@martinsokol3527 Borla S Type from the US. Absolutely rips now even with both sets of cats still in so fully MOT legal. Natural pops and burbles in the right places and sounds immense under load. Worth every penny. 1 hour install max from a garage and they had no issues fitting
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I was under the impression that you don’t get to individually spec a KIA GT Stinger as they come with every available option from factory as standard.
Yeah. Mine has every gadget imaginable.
If it’s line s it is the top of the range
Yes, but in the US they have GT1 and GT2 or something, so that statement depends on country. In Aus GT is top of range and has everything (Though no AWD option here)
@@francistaylor1822 you may not need AWD unless you live in a place with heavy snow in winter 😂
We do have rain here - theres less demand for AWD but it was nice when I had my Audi@@manofsesame3024
It’ll hold its value well because it’s still under warranty. Kia’s got that 7 year warranty
Kia still has another 2 years of warranty. BMW won’t
Plus it won't have engine management lights every 5 mins
Or leak oil.
Or have coolant leaks
Or sensor failures
Or timing chain issues
I own one but mine is tuned with Borla exhaust and pushing north of 420bhp. I live in MK and done your 20-70mph Dragy in 4.16 sec! Great to see you finally review a Stinger. Great video. That's a low mileage 2018 model
As a guide, my 2017 S4 with 430hp 20-70mph Dragys at 3.55.
@@mikefadian6129 Quattro probably gives you that advantage ?
Martin how did your (presumed £ tune affect the warranty?
@@fizzel5711 car is 6 years old, one year left on warranty hence the decision to tune. I expect engine warranty is no longer intact but rest of car is still covered. The engine is solid and certainly capable of alot more.
@@mikefadian6129 guess that quicker timing is mostly due to the weight, would expect an A6/S6 to be closer to the Kia
Have a Kia Stinger GTS now after my E90 335i, have to say I'm not disappointed. Feels special inside every time I get in. I would say not much of a note from the exhaust that could be improved.
Good Video, think you summed it up quite well.
I have a Kia Ceed GT 200bhp ,so much fun to drive and surprises other road users because of the badge and its a really good spec great value for money , sold my Alfa for it, I love it
Same, mine is a 63 plate. People think it’s a regular Cee’d until you put your foot down 😂
I had the same car with a black interior. I loved it, always put a smile on my face. I changed the badges for “E” badges, nobody could guess what it was. I even got 38 mpg on a run.
The Stinger was the perfect example of brand snobbery in action. It is a very capable car, with lots of equipment that's quick. I've owned lots of 5 series BMWs and to compare a like for like specced car would take the BMW to 15K more in many cases. Build quality is no longer an issue. BMW cars have as many if not more issues than Kia cars etc.
the stinger and the N series Hyundai cars are cars worth buying.
mate of mine had a liquid yellow KIA Stinger running about 700 BHP. These cars can be absolute monsters and kill an M4/M5 price wise
Lmao the cars being discontinued, and had a hard time beating accord sports on tracks , yea omg people be selling their bmws for one 🤪
@@VaunShiz discontinued for the reasons stated, brand snobbery. Who said they'd be selling BMWs for one? Think you're really struggling with basic comprehension pal.
@@VaunShizhonda😅😅😅😅😅
@@VaunShizthere are so many classic car models discontinued. Toyota Crown, Avalon, Lexus GS, Mercedes SLK, even BMW M550i, 6 series, Porsche Cayman. The list can go on and on. I won’t be surprised if Lexus IS also discontinued for their low sales
Enjoyed the video Calvin thanks. I have had a Stinger for two years and its been great both on short trips and long motorway cruising. Cheers 👍
I sold my 2019 BMW M3 immediately after the warranty ended because It broke down twice in the first three years of ownership, and I had it from new. I ended up buying a 2022 Kia Stinger GT2. It's nice owning a car and not having to repair it in the first year. On top of the fact that I can fit a 65 inch TV in the trunk comfortably.
I used to work for a car dealership as a driver and I've driven both the 440i and Kia Stinger and I'd honestly have the Kia over the BMW. The interiors in bmw just too Bland for me. Kia just felt like a nicer place to be and that's where you as a driver sit for the entire time you drive it. Its a better looking car in my opinion and you rarely see them on the roads. they both sound great too but I reckon the 440i sounds better. I was thinking you were gonna slate it because its a kia but the last few years Kia/Hyundai have smashed it with the design of their latest cars 👌
Well done mate, you deserve all the luck you get ,you work hard and seem very fair
How in the f is anyone a BMW fan anymore. They've been giving their customers the middle finger for 25 years.
The 2019 onwards will stay in manual mode when in sport. Prior to that it will revert after a few seconds as per the video.
Nice review Calv, mixing it up, impressed with that GTS, tbh didn't know much about them 👍
I bought one of the last UK registered of these last November - brilliant! I look forward to driving it, it’s so good.
Awesome content as always, never really looked at a Kia like that until now!
Thats a lovely motor, that center console is very merc C class like, you can see how other manufacturers have influenced them, the screen and drive options are quite similar to idrive too
I get pulled up almost everyday by random people asking questions or telling me how much they love my stinger. Never driven a car with strangers constantly given compliments. Stinger is great love love it ! So fast I have rwd version it destroys cars 4 times its price.
Great video!. I have a GT2 2023 (Last year of production) Perfect balance of performance, style and practicality. The best car I'd ever had.
Did you do the drags in launch mode though? Makes a big difference.
Also, in my 2020 Stinger GT2 all I have to do to put it in manual is flip the shifter over to the left when in Drive and you can either use the paddles or the shifter.
Don't forget, they come with automatic driving features from factory as well. Full lane keep assist, dynamic cruise control as well, where it slows and speeds itself up in traffic. And it has Launch Control, you probably would have had a better time of you used that
I owned one for over a year, loved it and miss it so much! I had to get rid as I needed to get a diesel for the better mpg due to increased driving. Ended up going with a 435D Gran Coupe which I love, but no where near as much as I did the Stinger
Bought this car from you yesterday... Absolutely beautiful, wonderful service from you guys. Worst thing though, got stolen today, outside my work, broad daylight at 12pm in public busy car park. Had it 24 hours!
😭
wow!! they steal Stingers? Chap who stole it probably thought it was a Maserati
My man, I noticed this car was marked stolen, really sorry to hear 😢
@@AdrianNelson1507 appreciate it man. Not going to lie, absolutely devastated. The only nice thing I’ve ever owned, stolen in a day. It hurts!
How did it get stolen?
@@K20TypeR relay theft I assume. Someone recorded the whole thing!
So despite the Kia depreciating less, being faster, having every extra and coming with a 7 YEAR WARRANTY! he would still choose a much lower spec, slower BMW, with a 3 year warranty. BMW's are also less reliable and a fortune for parts and servicing.
BMW's are like assholes, everyone's got one. I'd rather have that Stinger against any BMW.
Great unbiased review Calv
Top job sir u r da man 👊👍
Saw one of these in blue a week ago driving back up on the M40. Looked awesome.
Work for BCA, got a Mercedes EQC AMG 400 premium in the morning then my carry over is a this exact same car! Apparently the engine was co development by the fella who over seen the M projects at BMW. My dad had a bardo grey one in Germany as a company car has lots of fun on the autobahn
I used to work for kia and remember these coming to our dealership, we had one in yellow as a demo, very well specced cars and drove really nice, we had a chap buy one and traded his M4 but wasnt his cup of tea and fetched it back 2 weeks later, if i remember the servicing is something like 6k miles, i own an m performance 440i and love it but the gts is a great allrounder the boots bloody huge
The one thing id say is that the stinger would bring more attention in terms of many people don't know what it is compared to the M cars... Ive had countless people look, stare and ask me what car it is... So its more unique in those terms
i think most 440i gc from 2018 would have analogue dials. that most likely has more features than one, or at least more as standard. the bmw wouldnt have apple carplay/andriod auto, wouldnt have cooled seats. lots of the bmws would even be missing things like cruise control and electric seats from standard
From an early 90's Kia Pride to this!
Much like Skoda in regards to how much they've got their stuff sorted
Best Kia from that time i believe was Sonata, Skoda in the beginning was on top of their game in development apartment.
Decent car that, always good to have some variation on the channel 🔥
July birthdays 💪🏻 mines the 25th... The kia is quite a nice looking motor and pretty nippy too! Anoyh r great video calv and happy easter mate
I worked for Kia. I don't like the brand but damn there well built. I've worked from VAG and Benz, cheap plastic crap comparing the build quality. Only time will show. That car will NEVER rattle.
As an owner I've been looking into a 440i/340i and I'm a BMW man myself but you get so much more in the stinger, spec, attention everywhere, kids love it, adults love it, LSD from factory for the the 340i and 440i isn't quite on the same level granted build quality is better in a BMW but the Kia has done one hell of a job to show what they can do, a guy who used to build M cars actually done a lot of work on these stingers (forgot his name) but the car has really good feedback compared to a non M BMW, also had an Audi designer for the interior
@@layne4376 The M340i is on the same level as the Stinger. However, it’s at the top of that level, it’s superior with the B58 and ZF but it’s also $10k more equally spec’d (here in the US). You’d also be paying much more in maintenance/insurance while not having a hatch or a 10yr warranty.
The M440i is a closer comparison but that’s even more expensive.
I have etron with buttons on the face and a real hassle as when you sit down etc boot opens, sometimes windows and sunroof open due to pressure, this doesn't happen with buttons on the side, great idea.
When you look at the BMW440i vs the Kia Stinger GTS. It looks close. When you look at the actual performance it is close. When you look at reliability it’s not close. BMW is now known for high cost of Maintenance. Once you factor in the Warranty it is a no brainer. Clear win for KIA especially considering total cost of ownership. Hopefully saying you own a BMW will give you enough pull with your friends to close the distance!
My BMW does that with the manual mode, if you put it in manual but don’t actually change the gears for a while it’s switches back to auto
These are very under the radar cars - you can't even say under rated, becuase everyone seems to love them, I've not seen anything bad about them at all, and they are very much on my radar.
The gearbox can't be held in manual mode unfortunately, having seen a few mentions of this.
The other slightly annoying thing for rivals, is that these GTSs don't really seem to give any problems either! 😅
In 2019 they introduced a few tweaks including for it to be held in manual for as long as you want in Sport mode. Sightly louder exhaust, flush looking screen, ambient lighting, more HUD info and a couple of other bits. Worth getting a 2019 onwards if you can. They are awesome cars!
@@alexlee-isted5046 Hi. Are you sure about the post 2019 Manual and Sport mode? I bought mine (2018) used from KIA Portugal and they said the same, but it was not true...
@@jacopovalentino in the UK it is definitely true. If you have a 2018 that is pre 2019 so will not hold manual mode. You need a 2019+ for full manual mode in Sport
@@alexlee-isted5046 Do you think that changing the TCU for a newer one would allow Manual Mode (in Sport - as I understand)? I live in Portugal. A post 2019 would be practically impossible to find.
7 year warranty
Great review. New sub, from the US
why don't dealers seem to know the difference between a pan roof and a sun roof? so many ads in auto trader say pan roof when it's just a sun roof.
Factory limited slip diff also. But 6000 mile service intervals
That's like Golf GTI drivers saying the Hyundai I30N isn't any good as it flies past them lapping them.....again. Also KIA has 7 year warranty and I bet the BMW needed fixing just after its 3 year warranty (ABS or electrical fault). Personally I don't like the look of the KIA. A least you wouldn't cut up other drivers like all BMW drivers do.
Im currently getting a 240i which I’m happy with but I really wanted a stinger since it’s the last year they are making it but man the markups and the availability on them is insane
That looks a great car. If you're not a car snob, it will probably be even more reliable than a BMW. I am pretty certain, to get a BMW spect up to the same level, would cost a lot more than £45,000. Probably nearer £50,000 new. So the Kia stinger, is excellent value for money, as well.
Usually you have to move the gear lever to the right to be in manual mode to benefit from the padels shift on the steering wheel.
Only 2019 and up stay in manual. You cant move the selector over to the left or right, it's a digital selector. The gearbox goes back into auto if you don't change gear for a certain amount of time or if you stop, so if you were on a track for example it would remain in manual ultimately
@@mattthompson8363 👍🏻 in my 2020 sportage dct is like that. Thanks for the reply.

I deliberately didn’t watch this, for a couple of days, in case you hated it. I was astonished at the power figures, when a colleague had one a few years ago. But for it to compare so favourably on residual values as well…..and no disrespect to BMW, but a lot of that kit would cost a chunk of change…….breathtaking value if you ask me. 😳
Which manufacturer has the best warranty and why ...and which one is always at the bottom for reliability BMW
They have created a fantastic car, looks great and so many toys.
I like these , I’d say this is an upgrade on a Range Rover sport , not the other way about !
Had a look on the webdite can’t see this , had it sold already ?
It's on Autotrader, £26k
Servicing interval on these is every 6 months😬but they are absolutely lovely cars. They done a 200bhp Ceed GT too. Fantastic spec.
This car used to belong to one of my work colleagues. He loved it, but sold it and got an M3. Small world.
That other Kia you passed Calvin has some impressive numbers 577 bhp and 0 to 60 in around 3.5 seconds it’s a Kia ev6 gt
it was not an ev6 gt. it was an ev6 gt line… not a gt. big big difference
Sad nerd fact, it wasn’t even a GT Line, it was an Air, the base model. Only got 225bhp.
Literally no one cares about EVs but NPCs
Not saying the Stinger GT is better than a M series BMW... But, made by the same mind behind the M series.. As someone who got the option to drive these months before they hit the market... Loved the way Kia was heading.. Even the Hyundai brand with the G70.. Both come with the 3.3 Twin Turbo.. and optional AWD..
I wonder if depreciation slows down now with the news they stop making stingers this year. 2021 gts owner here, got to say i love the car, still surprised as to how much attention it gets.
I live in Canada have an AWD -30c to -45c great drive all year round car
My boss in work has one in white. It really does look good. Forget the badge. This is a proper motor. 7 year warranty.... should have been well more popular than they were. And everyone who bought one did love them.

This AWD or the Giulia AWD? Do you think stability and traction control and limited slip differentials are enough to keep a rear wheel drive car from tailspinning. I watch so many Mustang, Charger, BMW and other rear wheel drive crash "shorts". It seems to me irrelevant the slip differential because of the way the power to the rear wheels just keep sending it in the direction you originally pointed, no matter how much correction takes place. In the 1970s, cars I drove with rear wheel drive were too underpowered to cause much harm (not musclehead Camaros or Mustangs). All the crash data suuports that the Mustang is the most fatal car. Easy to see why with rear wheel drive and lots of power.
I had a Porsche 981 sold it and was looking for a a car, i come across the stinger GT2 i drive one and paid cash there and then I've had a lot of work done and my gosh i get stopped constantly by people great value for money this car and there are plenty of mods that are not expensive.

The Stinger was developed by M Division Albert Biermann when he left BMW and went to KIA/Hyundai.
The rear/ rear lights are a bit Maserati Ghibli esque

@@VaunShiz0-60mph in 4.7 seconds is hardly slow - consider the 40k price tag as well and not much in that range can keep up.

I have GT2 Limited Stinger, Its bright Orange turns head everywhere I go.
Good lookn cars.....seen one few days ago in nardo grey....deffo caught my eye....these cars are a bargin.
Personally, I'd compare it with the base V6 petrol RWD 2nd gen Porsche Panamera or 2nd gen Audi S7. Similar layout, hatchback, and 8-speed gearbox. To me, it's a poorer person's Panamera or S7.
Why buy the Kia? For the price of a much older and higher mileage Panamera you can have a lower mileage Stinger still under warranty.
Plus points: rarer, 5-seater (although the S7 is a 5-seater, and you can get the 2nd gen Panamera in 5-seat config), bigger boot, cheaper (and you'd spend at least 20 grand at Porsche or Audi to match what you get for free), faster than the base Panamera. Given Porsche are very conservative with their 0-60 times, still the Stinger would be more than a second quicker 0-60mph, but would be slower than the S7.
Negative points: not a premium brand, lower build quality, less stylish interior.
Build quality: IMO, these are about the same as the 4-Series Gran Coupe of the same gen, but probably not on par with a 6-series Gran Coupe. Definitely, not on par with a Panamera or S7. But got to remember the much longer warranty.
Practicality: Unlike the BMW Gran Coupes, it's a 5-seater hatchback with a big boot. Unlike an earlier Panamera it's a 5-seater, and it has a larger boot. Probably more rear legroom than the BMWs and S7, but less than a Panamera.
Summary: Very good value for money as long as you're not a brand snob. If you are a brand snob, it doesn't matter that it's cheaper, is much better equipped as standard, holds onto more of its value and loses far less actual money, has a much longer warranty, is faster, and rarer; you're still not going to buy one.
Personally, I'd buy a Stinger over the similarly-priced BMWs, used or when new (now discontinued). When new, I'd probably have bought a used 2nd gen Panamera for similar money. Now, these typically sell with moderate miles in the low 20s, which is roughly half what you'd have to pay for an equivalent 2g Panamera. If I couldn't afford an equivalent 2g Panamera, I think I'd buy a Stinger over a much older and leggier Panamera/A7/S7 for similar money. While I am somewhat of a brand snob, I am also open-minded enough and secure enough to proudly drive a Kia Stinger. I particularly liked the spec of this one with its red paint and light interior. And let's face it, there's nothing particularly special driving a German car in the UK.
I've owned mine for 6 years. Not a single fault. It's been a gem.
Camera quality is class
Whaoooo, Calvin got a camera man? You're moving up in the world Calvin 😂. Another awesome video pal, thank you 👍 Fyi you'll regret the present comment 😂
I'd have no problems running that car, if I was in the market for something like that. I've never been bothered about badges.
The point of these cars was to hark back to the 90's JDM scene. Out of the factory it's a standard quick car. But spend 20% of the purchase price on upgrades to the tune, exhaust and turbo's and all of a sudden you have a proper beast.
Plus the road tax on the BMW will be a lot more for the first 6 years cos its over £40k new.
Does anyone know what Hpi check Calvin uses to get the spec list and the new prices of the cars thanks
Yep, I want to find that out as well! I called HPI directly the other week and I was told they don’t do it.
Can't believe we have the same birthday 😁 Top man 👌
Calvin great video..really nice car..I like the kia..very nice looking car thank you ..
You also need to do this run again but this time using launch control
GTS is the highest spec Stinger not low spec at all.
That spec and GT2 spec you cant keep it in manual but the GT1 and GT spec you can.
The car also has launch control that you didnt use it seems.
I have owned 3 KIAs in a row, I first got a Spectra 5 SX with a manual trans, drove it for 5 years, very litte trouble with it, not a flashy car but I liked it. Then I got a Forte KOUP R with 6 speed manual, a much sportier car loved it, then I got a Stinger GT and love it. There are some KIA(Hyundai) engines you should avoid thats the main thing about KIA Hyundai cars there are certain engines that like to blow up and catch fire I guess I was lucky so far.
Always thought, really nice looking car. I’m definitely not a badge snob, I’d drive this over any of its German competitors. Probably comes down to this or a Jaaag.
I have a KIA EV6, it wasn't a brand I would have even thought about previously. Always secretly liked the Stinger.
That EV6 kia shown in the last video is actually kinda the replacement of the stinger but electric
I'd say that's definitely got a hint of red in it.
Nice Omega Seamaster Calvin.. suits the car too 👍
