Flame troopers seem to be more tactical in purpose. Destroying hostile Flora and Fauna to make way for industrial facilities. While incinerator troopers seem to be specifically equipped for massive arson based combat to decimate their enemies…
I feel like Flametroopers in Fallen Order and in that comic were made to resemble Snowtroopers a bit, echoing the way First Order Flametroopers would later resemble First Order Snowtroopers. Feel like the Incinerator trooper throws a wrench in that, but I’ll chalk it up to the Empire having lost the war and being low on supplies. Red paint will do.
Incinerator Troopers are elite flame troopers. They had more powerful flamethrowers, advanced training, and only pyromaniacs were chosen to join their ranks. You'd send in a Flametrooper if you wanted a small scale, contained display of intimidation, but you'd send an Incinerator Trooper if you desired an entire settlement to be razed to the ground.
Glad the TK Troopers made this list! That design is really growing on me, I also think it's sick how they're still using Clone blasters (the DC-15a Carbine)
Yea they’re sick. They’re based on the original stormtrooper concept art by Ralph mcquarrie before they settled on the design that we all know from A New Hope
Not to be that guy but, mud troopers that fought on mimban weren't a variation or type of stormtroopers. They actually fell more into the ranks of the imperial army, a seperate branch of the military from the stormtroopers. The imperial army were enlisted or conscripted as well, but they weren't quite as well trained, yet they fought on most of the bloodier battles, such as mimban.
What's silly is that most of them are just Stormtroopers wearing an accessory. I can imagine the conversations some of these people must have, "put on your cape, we need to be mudtroopers today" "oh, you're going for a walk outside in Sullust? Better become a magma trooper! Put on your shin pads and get your respirator". But of course, all of these folks get special training to do complicated things such as: not stepping in lava; looking for a branch if they get stuck in deep mud and can't move; as well as: walking down the shores of a beach and enjoying the good weather?
In fairness working in conditions where lava is abundant, the bigger threat would be volcanic gasses, potentially unstable footing, pretty much everything about the environment that doesn't have to do with lava
I think it's less that these are completely different troops, and more that some of these are just different armor and equipment; The Snowtroopers for example, I believe are at least mostly just common Stormtroopers decked out in gear more suitable for Hoth's arctic climate.
I feel like Alex kind of fumbled on what is a stormtrooper. I would think that a stormtrooper variant would have to be an Imperial trooper that is part of the Stormtrooper Corps. While the Stormtrooper Corps was a part of the Imperial Army, there are also other corps within the Imperial Army as well. The Imperial combat driver and all variations such as AT-AT pilot, AT-ST driver, AT-ACT driver, Tank driver, and Juggernaut pilot are part of the Imperial Combat Driver Corps and are not Stormtroopers. Mudtroopers are Imperial Army, plain and simple, and are not Stormtroopers otherwise all the soldiers seen on Mimban in Solo: A Star Wars Story would have been wet-weather gear Stormtroopers including Han.
I personally have been a major fan of Shoretrooper armor ever since it first appeared and it has stayed my favorite even with new and cool variants showing up like Range troopers. The Shoretrooper design just feels so grounded and real, and the efficiently simple color palette works in almost any environment, not just tropical areas.
I wonder if the flame trooper from fallen order is wearing fire proof gear while the incinerator is when they have lack of flame troopers uniform and have to use standard imperial with red markings instead.
It has literally appeared in The Force Unleashed on Kashyyyk as a part of the Empire at it's peak where it held absolute undisputed control over the galaxy, before the Rebel Alliance even existed

The one you see in Fallen Order on Kashyyyk is more designed to take on local wildlife, which is why it has a less powerful flamethrower

Storm troopers were not the main force of the imperial military. The imperial army is a separate branch then the storm trooper corps. The imperial army was mostly immobile, while storm troopers were more like an expeditionary force. (Also mud troopers are apart of the imperial army, not the storm trooper corp.)

Is there anywhere where I can read more about the main imperial army, because would it not have made more sense for the empire to employ the entire (or atleast many) of the main army force when capturing and maintaining a vital position such as endor? A few that were missed, the undead Death Troopers from the Legends book of the same name have been recanonized, and were utilized as the in-universe reason why the Deathtroopers from Rogue One have their name. Then the Imperial Transport Trooper, another one of the Hover Tank/Juggernaut variants but with blue markings, that accompanies space transport ships, as seen in Vader Immortal and the Castle Vader Lego set. Lastly the Dark Troopers of course, being recanonized by Mandalorian Season 2

Are all infantry Storm Troopers? You mention that Storm Troopers are elite troops. But I don't see who they could be elite above. I've seen the Mud Troopers, specifically the ones in the first battle scene of Solo, referred to as part of the Imperial Army, a distinct, more common, and somewhat lower grade of entity from the Storm Trooper Corps which were more like the Marines.
The stormtrooper Corp is above the imperial army and imperial navy troopers. Also a lot of the troopers mentioned here like the mud trooper and most of the pilots are army not stormtrooper Corp

Well, in canon in later years Army Troopers were phased out completely in favor of more funding towards the stormtroopers and their academies. By the time of Rebels you would automatically become a stormtrooper and enter into the academy to become one upon graduation.
I don't normally disagree with you and your knowledge of canonical material. However I think a lot of "Troopers" you have here are Imperial Army not the Stormtrooper Corps. They are different branches of the Imperial military after all. Unfortunately some of the visual dictionary, comic book, video game, and novel writers (and to some extent even tv show and movie makers) don't seem to remember this distinction. As some one who spent time in a real world military their would definitely be a distinction. The Stormtroopers are shock/assault troops, used for ship boarding, decisive attacks and initial occupational forces. They are chosen not just for their skill at academies but there loyalty and devotion to the Empire and Palpatine, they represent an elite force. They also get monitored but loyalty officers a lot. With the exception of Snow Troopers, they are distinguished by their armor and helmets, if it looks mostly like a regular Stormtroopers they are part of the Corps. If a military campaign is going to take awhile or you just need manpower and firepower you use the Imperial Army. The army is more numerous and consists of those trainees not good enough for the Stormtrooper Corps or Imperial Navy. This is where Han Solo got sent. They don't get glamorous nor glorious missions usually but they do get a lot more armored fighting vehicles and artillery. If the armor doesn't look like a Stormtroopers the individual under it is probably Imperial Army not Stormtrooper Corps. The armor is less protective and often bulkier than Stormtrooper armor, expenses were spared on these soldiers.
Apparently most of the land vehicles stormtroopers typically deploy with are technically imperial army as well. I think it's a bit of a clusterfuck because stormtroopers seem to fill so many categories, but I do think it makes sense that the imperial army are the ones who do most of the trench warfare, even if that kind of thing is literally all they do. Stormtroopers seem to be variously elite shock troops, ship boarding action specialists, hazardous environment specialists, a police force, a more political force... I think if you confine the imperial army to action like on mimban, and give basically every other role to stormtroopers, it kind of works fine. The imperial army should be rarely seen by most normal people because they only deploy in or near proper warzones. Stormtroopers should be seen with some regularity by most normal people because they are peacekeepers and law enforcement as well as elite soldiers. Stormtroopers are the face of the empire, the imperial army are a more expendable but in this time period not often useful force because there aren't many proper conventional wars happening in the age of the empire, it's all insurgencies.
@@Shot5hells I think the one exception is the Mandalorian Sector Uprising. The response to a governor and ISD being destroyed was probably to send a legion of Stormtroopers to occupy Sundari, my guess is that failed the Uprising spread from Mandalor to its star system and then the entire Sector. At that point it involves mostly Imperial Navy and Army, it also becomes a propaganda gold mine for the Empire and a hindrance to the Alliance to Restore the Republic. The Mandalorians although initially assisted by the Rebel Alliance cared nothing for the Republic and were fighting for an independent Mandalor. COMPNOR probably loved being able to make the Mandalorians bad guys and down play rebel groups as minor terrorists. It would be so easy because of the history of the Mandalorians and the associated myths and legends that almost every sentient species has either heard or was directly involved with. Why would anyone complain about resources going to the Imperial military as it fights to protect the galaxy from new wave of Mandalorian raids. Moff Gideon was probably only given authority to start the Mandalorian Purge near the end of the Empire. While Mandalorians have a lot of advantages against Stormtroopers and elite forces, at this point in their history they don't have the ships to compete against the Imperial Navy, nor the man power to stop the Imperial Army on planets and moons. Of course we might learn more in Season 3 of The Mandalorian, or a military scifi story about the Uprising and Purge.
@@Shot5hells actually, the Stormtrooper Corps wasn't a political force, that would be CompForce. CompForce was the military arm of The Commission for the Preservation of the New Order (COMPNOR). COMPNOR handled things like Surveillance, interrogation, Re-Education, Enforcement, Investigations, Internal Affairs, and Special Operations. They also handled propaganda, schools, and directed the cultural achievements of the Empire. The Imperial Security Bureau was also under COMPNOR. Think of COMPNOR as being the SS, the ISB as the Gestapo, and CompForce would be like the Waffen SS. COMPNOR was explained in great detail in the Imperial Source book for the Star Wars RPG.
Don't forget Yacht troopers - specially trained to excel in the close confines of conventional pleasure craft. Or the underappreciated Gate troopers who stood sentry in the Empire's many toll booths. The Empire was also in the process of trialing a company of Alderaan troopers, but the program was put on indefinite hold due to unforeseen events.
I'm surprised Seatroopers haven't been touched on before. Having an elite scuba squadron would make sense for intruders trying to sneak into their underwater bases, like Fortress Inquisitorious on Nur from Fallen Order. It's unlikely Cal would've reached the Second Sister if they'd been present and therefore, Trilla wouldn't have died.

I was under the impression that Crimson armored stormtroopers were Royal Guard outside their ceremonial armor. They also had crimson Pilot gear and had TIE/in that were painted red.
I've always head canoned the Uprising Purge Troopers as a left over of the real purge troopers that Adelhard kept behind to use in similar manner to Death Troopers - personal guards
I know it's always been for merchandizing, but calling all these variants "X-trooper" is just funny to me. Most of them are likely the same troopers with the same training, just issued different armor for different environments. Like Vader dispatches troops from the Devastator to Tatooine to search for the plans. The "Sandtroopers" are just stormtroopers from the Devastator who just grabbed some field gear and went down to the planet. Same with the snowtroopers on Hoth. They are just stormtroopers who were issued cold weather gear for the battle. There's no way an entire battalion of "snow troopers" just waits around on the Executor for a cold weather mission. Still, always love coming back to this video!
SWIFTTROOPERS: agile Stormtroopers that specializes in parkour chases on specific planets. They have quick boosting jetpacks and boxy rectangular armor plating. They prefer melee fighting over blasters.
Man, storm commandos and shadow troopers deserve more,. Their concepts make for rich content to the lore. Just imagine the kind of games they can be included...

Honestly, I feel like the shoretrooper's armor is the best. It's very tactical-esque with there not being any armor over the thighs, and the visor being easier to see through.
I like the shore troopers cause they show thier rank and battalion with colors on the armor. Also the officer shore troopers have belt capes like clones which is just the peak of starwars drip.

So, was the vehicle Mando and Bill Burr hijacked officially a Juggernaut? I only ask because when watching the series for a second time I realized that it appears to only be half the size, or even a bit less, than the actual juggernaut, so I assumed it was a smaller version made for use by miners and various other hauler type jobs. But in the Mandalorian, there are several scenes where you can clearly see that the tires are shorter then any of the characters present, but we’ve constantly been shown that the actual Juggernaut’s tires are almost twice the height of a adult human.

Yeah, there are a few others on this list that are not part of the stormtrooper corps like some of the drivers. My understanding with the Mudtroopers is that they are identical to the standard Imperial Army troopers with a waterproof cape added.

I think the JFO lore is that scout troopers received baton training anyways, but the skilled ones go on to only be baton troops. I think, I can't remember if it is true, but it is something along those lines.

They have been specially trained and equipped for dancing and dabbing, in addition to extremely rapid construction of wooden fortifications. The Emperor does not understand them.

Ok so looking at this there’s so much vehicle specialization in the armor. I wonder what the budget for the Empire is because different variations with different modifications would understandably cost differently. Mixing and matching parts would be a good idea but at the same time any good weapons and arms company would make them a set and sell those instead.

I think stormtrooper armour and padding is flame *resistant*, and presumably incinerator troopers' have slightly modified versions giving more of that

The imperial army was mostly immobile, while storm troopers were more like an expeditionary force. (Also mud troopers are apart of the imperial army, not the storm trooper corp.)

Is there anywhere where I can read more about the main imperial army, because would it not have made more sense for the empire to employ the entire (or atleast many) of the main army force when capturing and maintaining a vital position such as endor? @@catpicton5814 The stormtroopers are employed to deal with high priority threats. That’s why you always see them in the movies, the imperial army is basically just a minor security force stationed on bases and planets. (Sorry for responding late btw)
A few that were missed, the undead Death Troopers from the Legends book of the same name have been recanonized, and were utilized as the in-universe reason why the Deathtroopers from Rogue One have their name. Then the Imperial Transport Trooper, another one of the Hover Tank/Juggernaut variants but with blue markings, that accompanies space transport ships, as seen in Vader Immortal and the Castle Vader Lego set. Lastly the Dark Troopers of course, being recanonized by Mandalorian Season 2

The Dark Troopers are droids, they don't count as a Stormtrooper variant.

Are all infantry Storm Troopers? You mention that Storm Troopers are elite troops. But I don't see who they could be elite above. I've seen the Mud Troopers, specifically the ones in the first battle scene of Solo, referred to as part of the Imperial Army, a distinct, more common, and somewhat lower grade of entity from the Storm Trooper Corps which were more like the Marines.
The stormtrooper Corp is above the imperial army and imperial navy troopers. Also a lot of the troopers mentioned here like the mud trooper and most of the pilots are army not stormtrooper Corp

Well, in canon in later years Army Troopers were phased out completely in favor of more funding towards the stormtroopers and their academies. By the time of Rebels you would automatically become a stormtrooper and enter into the academy to become one upon graduation.
I don't normally disagree with you and your knowledge of canonical material.
However I think a lot of "Troopers" you have here are Imperial Army not the Stormtrooper Corps. They are different branches of the Imperial military after all.
Unfortunately some of the visual dictionary, comic book, video game, and novel writers (and to some extent even tv show and movie makers) don't seem to remember this distinction. As some one who spent time in a real world military their would definitely be a distinction.
The Stormtroopers are shock/assault troops, used for ship boarding, decisive attacks and initial occupational forces. They are chosen not just for their skill at academies but there loyalty and devotion to the Empire and Palpatine, they represent an elite force. They also get monitored but loyalty officers a lot. With the exception of Snow Troopers, they are distinguished by their armor and helmets, if it looks mostly like a regular Stormtroopers they are part of the Corps.
If a military campaign is going to take awhile or you just need manpower and firepower you use the Imperial Army. The army is more numerous and consists of those trainees not good enough for the Stormtrooper Corps or Imperial Navy. This is where Han Solo got sent. They don't get glamorous nor glorious missions usually but they do get a lot more armored fighting vehicles and artillery. If the armor doesn't look like a Stormtroopers the individual under it is probably Imperial Army not Stormtrooper Corps. The armor is less protective and often bulkier than Stormtrooper armor, expenses were spared on these soldiers.

Apparently most of the land vehicles stormtroopers typically deploy with are technically imperial army as well. I think it's a bit of a clusterfuck because stormtroopers seem to fill so many categories, but I do think it makes sense that the imperial army are the ones who do most of the trench warfare, even if that kind of thing is literally all they do. Stormtroopers seem to be variously elite shock troops, ship boarding action specialists, hazardous environment specialists, a police force, a more political force... I think if you confine the imperial army to action like on mimban, and give basically every other role to stormtroopers, it kind of works fine. The imperial army should be rarely seen by most normal people because they only deploy in or near proper warzones. Stormtroopers should be seen with some regularity by most normal people because they are peacekeepers and law enforcement as well as elite soldiers. Stormtroopers are the face of the empire, the imperial army are a more expendable but in this time period not often useful force because there aren't many proper conventional wars happening in the age of the empire, it's all insurgencies.
@@Shot5hells I think the one exception is the Mandalorian Sector Uprising. The response to a governor and ISD being destroyed was probably to send a legion of Stormtroopers to occupy Sundari, my guess is that failed the Uprising spread from Mandalor to its star system and then the entire Sector. At that point it involves mostly Imperial Navy and Army, it also becomes a propaganda gold mine for the Empire and a hindrance to the Alliance to Restore the Republic.
The Mandalorians although initially assisted by the Rebel Alliance cared nothing for the Republic and were fighting for an independent Mandalor. COMPNOR probably loved being able to make the Mandalorians bad guys and down play rebel groups as minor terrorists. It would be so easy because of the history of the Mandalorians and the associated myths and legends that almost every sentient species has either heard or was directly involved with. Why would anyone complain about resources going to the Imperial military as it fights to protect the galaxy from new wave of Mandalorian raids. Moff Gideon was probably only given authority to start the Mandalorian Purge near the end of the Empire.
While Mandalorians have a lot of advantages against Stormtroopers and elite forces, at this point in their history they don't have the ships to compete against the Imperial Navy, nor the man power to stop the Imperial Army on planets and moons.
Of course we might learn more in Season 3 of The Mandalorian, or a military scifi story about the Uprising and Purge.

@@Shot5hells actually, the Stormtrooper Corps wasn't a political force, that would be CompForce. CompForce was the military arm of The Commission for the Preservation of the New Order (COMPNOR). COMPNOR handled things like Surveillance, interrogation, Re-Education, Enforcement, Investigations, Internal Affairs, and Special Operations. They also handled propaganda, schools, and directed the cultural achievements of the Empire. The Imperial Security Bureau was also under COMPNOR.
Think of COMPNOR as being the SS, the ISB as the Gestapo, and CompForce would be like the Waffen SS.
COMPNOR was explained in great detail in the Imperial Source book for the Star Wars RPG.
Don't forget Yacht troopers - specially trained to excel in the close confines of conventional pleasure craft. Or the underappreciated Gate troopers who stood sentry in the Empire's many toll booths. The Empire was also in the process of trialing a company of Alderaan troopers, but the program was put on indefinite hold due to unforeseen events.
I'm surprised Seatroopers haven't been touched on before. Having an elite scuba squadron would make sense for intruders trying to sneak into their underwater bases, like Fortress Inquisitorious on Nur from Fallen Order. It's unlikely Cal would've reached the Second Sister if they'd been present and therefore, Trilla wouldn't have died.

No, Shoretroopers have very different helmets.
@@phixter I know. But in Rouge One it was the same prop that the AC-ACT and tank drivers used, but painted differently. They're the exact same shape. The reason the visor is larger for Shoretroopers is because they added black reflective paint under the actual visor.

I was under the impression that Crimson armored stormtroopers were Royal Guard outside their ceremonial armor. They also had crimson Pilot gear and had TIE/in that were painted red.
Mudtroopers (the armor that Solo was wearing) aren’t Stormtrooper Corps, they’re Imperial Army; the helmet gives it away.

I know it's always been for merchandizing, but calling all these variants "X-trooper" is just funny to me. Most of them are likely the same troopers with the same training, just issued different armor for different environments. Like Vader dispatches troops from the Devastator to Tatooine to search for the plans. The "Sandtroopers" are just stormtroopers from the Devastator who just grabbed some field gear and went down to the planet. Same with the snowtroopers on Hoth. They are just stormtroopers who were issued cold weather gear for the battle. There's no way an entire battalion of "snow troopers" just waits around on the Executor for a cold weather mission.

SWIFTTROOPERS: agile Stormtroopers that specializes in parkour chases on specific planets. They have quick boosting jetpacks and boxy rectangular armor plating. They prefer melee fighting over blasters.

Honestly, I feel like the shoretrooper's armor is the best. It's very tactical-esque with there not being any armor over the thighs, and the visor being easier to see through.
For all those wondering, Medic Troopers are not Cannon, however I believe they are seen in Lore.
When it comes to what I’d try to join obviously Jump Troopers were the best bet since they could get out of situations easily and were mobile

I like the shore troopers cause they show thier rank and battalion with colors on the armor. Also the officer shore troopers have belt capes like clones which is just the peak of starwars drip.

So, was the vehicle Mando and Bill Burr hijacked officially a Juggernaut? I only ask because when watching the series for a second time I realized that it appears to only be half the size, or even a bit less, than the actual juggernaut, so I assumed it was a smaller version made for use by miners and various other hauler type jobs. But in the Mandalorian, there are several scenes where you can clearly see that the tires are shorter then any of the characters present, but we’ve constantly been shown that the actual Juggernaut’s tires are almost twice the height of a adult human.

Yeah, there are a few others on this list that are not part of the stormtrooper corps like some of the drivers. My understanding with the Mudtroopers is that they are identical to the standard Imperial Army troopers with a waterproof cape added.

I think the JFO lore is that scout troopers received baton training anyways, but the skilled ones go on to only be baton troops. I think, I can't remember if it is true, but it is something along those lines.

Shadow troopers were also in Star Wars Force Unleashed and Charging Troopers were also in the campaign mode of Battlefront 2 EA from 2017
Lego had made Shadow Trooper minifigures in 2007 and in 2014 as well as in 2019 but those were updated.

They are also quite skilled with all manners of slugthrowers, grenades, rocket launchers, and various sorts of weaponry. Many of them are among the best shots in the empire.

Ok so looking at this there’s so much vehicle specialization in the armor. I wonder what the budget for the Empire is because different variations with different modifications would understandably cost differently. Mixing and matching parts would be a good idea but at the same time any good weapons and arms company would make them a set and sell those instead.
