What wasn't explained in this video is that some of the vintage rhinestone sets sold for high $$$ partly because they were "converter" sets. In the case of the OOAK multicoloured parure, the necklace transforms into two bracelets and a pin. At 12:20, the necklace also converts into 2 bracelets. The versatility of these pieces, as well as their novelty, makes them more desirable to collectors.
@@isabellavalencia8026 A "converter" was a piece of jewelery that could change into some other form....... like the necklace that "converts" to a broach and 2 bracelets. Think of these pieces as "The Transformers" of costume jewelry.
Amber is not a stone, but fossilized resin from evergreen trees. It looks and feels similar to a gemstone and is often treated as one, having been a popular element in decoration and adornment for many years. Generally a golden or brown color, it is considered to be restorative and soothing. Beware that all “amber” isn’t amber. Fakes could be: casein, celluloid, copal, glass, kauri gum, plastic, and phenolic resin.
True. I suspected that a necklace that I have was amber, but an expert told me it was celluloid. She was right. There are videos on how to test for amber - eg it should float in heavily salted, hot (not boiling) water and fluoresce under blue light.
My mom born 1917 had so many and she bought them in NYC in the 30s, 40s, 50s at Lord and Taylor, Saks, Altmans, Gimbels, etc. All the big department stores. Me born 1957, wore so many of them, growing up, going to clubs... They're beautiful but the prices are so way over the top, buy gold. But people pay and they're happy. I like wearing what I have way too much to sell.
Loved seeing the watermelon tourmaline! Tourmaline is the Maine state gemstone and we have quarries that produce many colors, including watermelon. I found a slice of it set in sterling MANY years ago at Goodwill for $3!
Well that'll teach me for being nice and letting family members choose pieces out of my Grandmother's jewelry box when she passed away. (That was back in 1995). I'm pretty certain one of the pieces was a Bakelite.
The Delillo necklace is high end costume jewelry. The stones are glass, not genuine turquoise. I sold the matching brooch, bracelet and earrings for a little bit more than the necklace to a reseller in NYC last year.
Hello Kat, another great video. The string you have referred to is knotted. Usually the material for example pearls are knotted. To protect the beads. Chain would destroy them. It's a sign of good quality.
I like what you picked to be in the video. Technically the internet has a mass amount of gold jewelry which is high priced. I like how you choose items we wouldn't expect to be such high dollar amounts.
Wow oh wow. Many years ago before thrift shopping became a thing, I started collecting vintage jewelry. I need to look through my items to see what I have. I am almost positive some of those jewelry pieces and sets were on HiBid. The artist names and designs come up so very rarely that I have no doubt they are the same ones I was bidding on and lost. For example, the HAR snake parure set went up to $850 on HiBid but still left a lot of room for profit obviously! And the enameled Mexican snake pieces are also very rare. There was a HiBid auction where two were up for bid! I had to sit on my hands so I wouldn’t keep bidding. Ha!

Hi nurse flipper, I started Mercari and Poshmark the end of January. I am a retired nurse. I don’t think I’ve come across anything worth any good amount of money yet. I buy lots of jewelry plus much more. I don’t know much. I don’t even wear jewelry so I am learning. Great information in this video. ❤️ my UA-cam channel is unboxing beauty subscriptions but I have posted videos showing my Poshmark and Mercari.
Hey Kat, my sister-in-law left me several of her Mom’s costume pieces. I am thinking of selling them because I don’t wear them. I gave away thousands of real jewelry during the pandemic. I have bought more. But rarely wear anything but rings. My sister-in-law had millions in real jewelry. My brother was a judge and had his own firm. Sadly he passed away last year.
Happy to help! There are millions of people and thousands of thrift stores I assure you they're not all watching me. There are alot of places besides stores to find items as well. Sad when people don't want to help one another

Happy weekend girrl I love necklaces, especially vintage!! The problem with this is that I’ll probably keep them no I can’t do that. I got goals I need to put a chimney on my house and do some house repairs and we got a buckle down and sell sell sell.
Thank you for the video, very enjoyable and informative...my rich Spanish aunt used to give my sisters and me identical butterscotch necklaces in the 1960s, we thought they were PLASTIC!!!
I like to think of amber as a living stone. It has SO MANY variations! Many people only know golden brown amber, but it's not that rare or pricey, there are other variations that are MUCH more valuable. It can be almost any color, from white to yellow, orange, red, green, blue to brown and black. AND it can be treated and stabilized in "un-natural" colors. It can be transparent (some artist even started cutting it faceted like gemstones), cloudy to solid. It can have inclusions (ie. moss, bugs). It's a lot lighter than gemstones, so you can wear bigger pices without really feeling it. I could go on; I'm from Poland, which is a source of fantastic amber and exceptional amber jewelery: a lot of it done in sterling silver, but also combined with different stones like amethyst, blue topaz, larimar (all three looks great with milky amber). One of my favourite artist blend it with 4000-year-old black oak.
Hi. I believe the designer you asking viewers it identify looks to me like Julianna...the back of the piece is the gives it away....puddle figure 8 of the Sauder metal. Julianna had a very distinct way of securing constring their pieces. Atheist that's what I think. Also, a fellow Nurse here,..Hope to doing this full time someday. 😊
I was lucky to find a pair of copied MATL design sterling earrings with coral, amethyst and turquoise for $1.00!!! Until then, I didn't even know who Matilde Poulet was! LOL! 😄
Hi great videos I have learned a whole heck of a lot. I’m new to your channel so these may be old questions: 1. I’m sure you would not reveal your best sources but where are you picking up most of your merchandise thrift thing? Garage sales? Are you using auctions? 2. Have you done a video where you run through a typical sale? For instance I’m assuming you’re selling through auctions and not buy it now. What do you start your auctions at? I’m not a big fan of the start everything at one dollar philosophy that mini resellers advocate. Thanks for all the great help I will continue to watch your videos I’ve even started going backwards to catch some of the older ones
First, I want to make sure you realize this in particular is a research video, so these are not my items (though I do have high dollar sales of my own items). I buy primarily from online auctions and do have several videos about that. Personally I use buy it now 98% of the time or closer to 99% and I recommend especially new sellers stay away from auctions mainly. The few instances I do them I start at the lowest I'm willing to take :-)
Your a gem , ha, for educating us all on vintage jewelry. Where would I go to see if any of my pieces are valuable? I’m in Indiana. My mother was a model and I have some amazing statement necklaces
I wouldn't buy anything called "butterscotch amber" on eBay, unless it's a reputable seller, the weight is stated and there's a picture of the item under a UV-lamp. Many sellers can't distinguish between amber and bakelite/catalin..
I have been watching your videos for almost a year off and on. I just subscribed. I have learned something in every video I have watched with you ❤ THANK YOU & HAPPY NEW #2023 ^.^ MaryDe

Late 1970s when I began wearing my mom's but my older sisters wore them. Pins I wore throughout high school. Some gorgeous huge pins and earrings...
If it wasn't mentioned "parure" just means a set. Many of us vintage lovers will search that key word to find a complete or near complete set.

Can you imagine getting an eBay return on one of these pieces? I'd be absolutely beside myself.
It happens, but in my experience I have way less trouble with high dollar sales than lower dollar
If you're wanting to sell bulk send me some photos and a price you're wanting to thenurseflipper@yahoo.com
Yay great, now we know why Goodwill and thrift stores raise their prices astronomically...because of people like you....thanks!!!!
Happy to help! There are millions of people and thousands of thrift stores I assure you they're not all watching me. There are alot of places besides stores to find items as well. Sad when people don't want to help one another
@@TheNurseFlipper Thank you so much for what you do, I know a little but not as much as you
I'm subbing. Have a wonderful Sunday, will binge watch your videos throughout the day ☺️🛎️
@@niecythebudgetnista3223 thanks so much!
Happy weekend girrl I love necklaces, especially vintage!! The problem with this is that I’ll probably keep them no I can’t do that. I got goals I need to put a chimney on my house and do some house repairs and we got a buckle down and sell sell sell.
hahahaha it can be hard sometimes to let them go
My eyes are very happy!! Thank you so much! 😊😍
You're welcome 😊
Thank you for the video, very enjoyable and informative...my rich Spanish aunt used to give my sisters and me identical butterscotch necklaces in the 1960s, we thought they were PLASTIC!!!
Thanks for sharing!
Hobe is pronounced Hobay. Thanks Kat!!!❤️
Oh sounds so lovely. I've had many different colors since beautiful green and with inclusions! Thanks so much for sharing
Awesome, thank you for the info!
Once again thank you for sharing your research. Enjoyed watching and learning.
You're welcome
Great video Kat!! Was so crazy that they are mostly custom for such high dollar amounts..😳😱
I totally agree!
Excellent presentation! This was my first video of yours I've seen.
I was lucky to find a pair of copied MATL design sterling earrings with coral, amethyst and turquoise for $1.00!!! Until then, I didn't even know who Matilde Poulet was! LOL! 😄
NICE!
Hi great videos I have learned a whole heck of a lot. I’m new to your channel so these may be old questions:
The few instances I do them I start at the lowest I'm willing to take :-)
Enjoyed this little video.beem collecting for 40 years
Glad you enjoyed it
Your a gem , ha, for educating us all on vintage jewelry. Where would I go to see if any of my pieces are valuable? I’m in Indiana. My mother was a model and I have some amazing statement necklaces
Look up the name on eBay and try to find similiar to get value
I wouldn't buy anything called "butterscotch amber" on eBay, unless it's a reputable seller, the weight is stated and there's a picture of the item under a UV-lamp.
Many sellers can't distinguish between amber and bakelite/catalin..
I have been watching your videos for almost a year off and on. I just subscribed. I have learned something in every video I have watched with you ❤ THANK YOU & HAPPY NEW #2023

Awesome! Thank you!
Great pieces thank you for your researches and time love it
My pleasure!
Amber takes 30 to 320 MILLION years to form so let's honor that as well.
This was totally amazing and informative. Thank you!!
You are so welcome!
I have a lot of these brands. I need tp start researching & listing them
Probably already identified, but The set shown at 14:10 is Juliana
New watcher here. Great videos! I would love if you mentioned how much the auction bids started at.
Welcome! Unfortunately they take quite a few hours to put together and that would add a bit of time on to that
Thank you Kat.
You are so welcome!
