That was like a scene out of The Twilight Zone. I'm sure it has a happy ending! I appreciate his efforts and scrutiny. Maybe we can make our own version, being that, we are jewelry makers and enthusiasts and that is because & why, It is a Language, a Secret Message in the Bottle one must perceive it's meaning, after first glance. I will never forget this!
Love that mustard seed heart in a heart. That belonged to someone's grandmother. To that grandmother it meant faith in God as a mustard seed can move mountains. I would buy that in a NY minute.
Exactly. I used to work in a costume jewelry factory in south Wales, UK. All set with Swarovski crystals which mostly had foiled backs, often including enamel, and plated with rhodium or gold. It was quite expensive for faux jewelry, and all pieces are marked on the back with A&S for Attwood and Sawyer.
Matthew 17:20 “… Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
The Heart amulet with the strange yellow object at the center of the smaller heart is a mustard seed! The old saying "if you have the faith of a mustard seed you can move mountains!"
I am a jewelry maker. You found some lovely pieces. The Blue Rhinestone pin doesnt have any aurora borealis crystals in it. Aurora borealis will appear as a rainbow coating. Also the larger rectangular stones are not considered Baguettes. Just an FYI. Great work!
Hey Rusty. Just want to compliment your videos. You are one of my favorite to watch. I also appreciate how you dont try to sell promotional products or ask for us to join your patrion. The information you provide is good solid teaching. Keep up the great work cousin!
One of the reasons I love costume jewelry is that it is NOT expensive, but it may match a piece of clothing or have a particular colour I love. Value often is more than monetary.
I love that you start with what to avoid. It is far more helpful for a newbie to learn what not to do, as we are far more likely to waste money than anything else.
That very first piece goes to show you how value and beauty really is in the eye of the beholder into all of us. Spiritually minded, faith, minded individuals, we know right away that is a mustard seed and we know right away. There is a huge market for those types of necklaces and jewelry pieces. I have one right now sitting right next to my bed that I wear, it is not made of any precious metal at all but that mustard seed is very precious to me!
The first custom-made piece is easily distinguishable-it’s a mustard seed inside the small heart. 💖 “…if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20
Right, Lots of 50's I believe had a Mustard Seedin it. It's from a Bible Verse. "For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you." (Matthew 17:20-21).
Matthew 17:20-21. The scriptures say '"if ye have faith as a mustard seed nothing shall be impossible for you.". read the whole text there. I am 81 and as a small child was given a pearl bracelet with a clear charm having a little mustard seed in the centre. I still have that pretty bracelet. The words of Jesus are so powerful and will be to time indefinite. You have a humble little heart brooch with its mustard seed that is so valuable in its significance.
I sell donated jewelry pieces for fund raising. I am interested in jewelry and make jewelry myself. I examined each piece to decide how much to ask for or should be sold on line. I fix broken pieces, mend loose beads, or restring necklaces. I learn a lot of researching brands, periods, and price range.
I do the same thing for oncology and heart institutes. Glad to see there's another one out there doing the same as me! I love donating my peices for fundraising! It feels good to be able to contribute to something so important to my heart! For one thing, I'm not rich so I can't donate like the rich do. But I am artistic so I can definitely help in that department and still make a big difference! And that alone is so heartwarming & unforgettable. I've had people contact me and thank me for the help. I just wish more people would get involved and do the same in someway! A donation to a cause can come in so many ways!
Hi Rusty, First bling experience with ur show! I love it. Watched twice I am avid vintage pin/ brooch collector. I love them. Erring is too. I use on Purses ,scarfs ,clothes, hats. Etc. Beautiful settings. Chrystal and do not tarnish. Why is this? Looking forward to watching all the videos missed. ❤ u r my new favorite cousin! 😊. Thank u! Elle
Due to rules in war time or…?! I’ve heard there are countries that weren’t allowed to mark during a certain period (which is why I referenced war). I’ll have to do more research 🧐
I have mom’s large cameo that she wore in the casket during her funeral. She left it to me. I’m 76, and plan to start wearing it to church. I haven’t worn it enough and mom passed in 2008.
Fellow commenters, your PSA for the day is read the comments section to see if anyone else has already made the same point before spamming it again, and again…and again… Anyway, thank you for the video. It was extremely helpful. You presented it in a way that made me think about looking at jewelry i come across completely different. I understand there will be exceptions, but I’m a bit less intimidated now lol.
I am very thankful for ALL of the information you shared in this video, I found it EXTREMELY helpful AND educational since I've been learning more extensively on other crystals that can be used for healing, beauty, yoga, health, gardening, everyday life and so on.
This is a great video packed with info. It would be helpful if you placed the piece on a solid surface while you are talking about it. The small movements of your hand while you are pointing out features make it hard to focus on the feature you are discussing. Your pointer is very helpful. Just a suggestion.
I have my mothers costume jewelry - she had some beautiful pins by Trifari and a few Avon pins from way back which are marked. Where can I sell them and are they worth anything?
It's a mustard seed inside the small heart! "If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you."
Oh Definitely a Mustard seed.. I have some Mom gave me necklaces . My daughter always wore them..still does! I Appreciate Your Video’s. I’ve watched Since you started.. You have Learned and Teaching us So MUCH! thanks🙏🕊🤗
Rusty I read where the striating on the backs of brooches were started in the late 70s or 80s through today and it’s a way to tell how old the piece is , it may be something to do with importing from other countries too. Smooth looking backs on pins and brooches mean made in the 60s or earlier. This is what was told to me by a very knowledgeable collector, It may not be true, but I know when I’m looking at brooches in the wild, a smooth back indicates an older piece to me. Love learning from you! 😊
I just came across this vlog and loved it thanks so much it was so helpful i have recived a lot of jewelry mostly costume but some real from my mawmaw my grandma and she had some beautiful jewelry i always admired so it was left to me i kinda put it safely away and had not looked at it for years but my daughter showed interest so we got it all out it was about 4 shoe boxes full and from your help and others i was able to get at one full shoe box of high end costume. But i wouldnt sell it but its nice to know and we will treasure it forever 😊❤🙏 thanks hun love your vlogs xxx❤
I have a hand me down charm bracelet from my mother that has a charm similar to the double heart broach. It is single of course, but it is a mustard seed and my mom taught me the Bible verse to go with it.
So glad I found your channel. I was looking for info on high end costume brooches and this video is by far the most informative and helpful Ive come across. Thank you very much!
At times there may be no prongs but the bezel wire is used to secure the stone. Of course in a costume piece it’s just for looks, glue is used as the fixative for the stone.
Thank you for all the info! I inherited my great grandmother and my grandmother's jewelry and there were many costume pieces. I have often wondered how much they were worth even though they are costume jewelry. I'll look through them again for some of the things you pointed out here.
You are pretty awesome Rusty ! i value your knowledge and Clarity and how precise you are getting to the point i absolutely love the pink and white one! oh my goodness I don't even know what kind of flowers they are but absolutely gorgeous and of course the very last one what a hand-me-down piece for Christmas huh? just absolutely beautiful!!!And I love that you call us all your cousins You are Pretty cool Cousin!! p.s.! I about hit the ceiling with excitement when I heard you mention you value postcards wow i can't wait to view that video i found about 60 or 70 postcards blowing around out in my desert! stuck in tumbleweeds and foxtails! lol from France and the whole surrounding area 1917 and 1918 war postcards. i do believe a first lieutenant from the United States who Was stationed in France And he sent postcards back If I remember correctly Boston area family member mom? And I have been looking And looking and looking And looking again haha For a place To sell them I can't wait to watch your video to see if it gives me any help thank you!!!
First time viewer here. When filming long close up of hands holding items wear gloves so skin and nails aren't distracting and the items will show up better. Tight fitting gloves work best like white lytex or black. Thank you for all the great video and info.
Very informative. Thank you for the info. This video popped up in my recommended videos. I will definitely check out more videos and your other channels. (And of course subscribe.)
I know, right, I think most of us know what custome jewelry entails. You try to pop out any cameo with a sharp object you will get the same result good or poor quality ,bezel set or glue. Don't try this at home lol.
Could you possibly give some more information on the databases that you were referring to? I have used the Google reverse image and I’d say about 70% of the time, there is no direct match or even anything close enough to research. Your help would be greatly appreciated 😊👍🏼 I’ve been dealing with (collecting and selling) vintage jewelry for years and even I learned some new things. Thank you for all that you do! Very helpful information 🩷
Yes, as soon as I viewed I knew it was a mustard seed. When I was a kid jewelry with a mustard seed were very popular back in the 50’s. I do think the heart pin does have some value. Have faith! 👍
In the first piece you showed that was a heart the item inside the clear heart is a mustard seed. Mustard seed jewelry was popular in the mid 60s and was a reference to Biblical text about your faith.
Rusty ur the man! Love your channel brother. I started buying jewelry for refining the precious metals your videos has taught me a lot about what to look for. What’s your eBay store called? And do you ever sell lots of scrap gold filled, gold plated, karat gold, and sterling scrap? I wanna buy some of rusty the UA-cam celebrity’s jewelry
I believe I have heard some pieces of jewellery will have a small stone added at the back. If I am correct it's a sign of a quality item and not a cheap mistake. Just thought I would let you know. Some gold is not hallmarked so don't assume it's not gold. So European items will be different yet again. What you are assuming is worth a lesser value may not be. Yes the insert is a mustard seed , my sister had a cross with a mustard seed. “ Luke 5:46 “ I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.
I learned a lot. I will watch your chanel. I have lots of beautiful vintage jewellery I want to sell and also make a nice collection for myself. 😊 . Enjoyed ypir video.from Canada 😮
I found an Old mustard seed necklace. I lost it and was so hurt that I went on an internet hunt and replaced it but it's not the old one I'd found at a yardsale.
When you showed us the better quality brooches, I wished you had cleaned them up first. They would have been even more beautiful and shiny. The very last brooch you showed is a Juliana. I own this brooch, but the kite shaped stones in mine are a lovely frosted blue. Thank you for the in depth analysis, many will benefit from watching this video.
Double heart is a Reference from the Bible, having the faith of the mustard seed.
Thanks!
Definitely a mustard seed. I wear a mustard seed neckless.
That’s beautiful scripture. Is a lovely brooch
I’d buy that mustard seed pin.
Great mustard seed heart pin, maybe you could sell it for an Easter sale. ❤
The heart pin. That is a mustard seed representing the seed of faith inside of the heart of a believer.
If ye have the faith of a mustard seed, ye shall say unto the mountain “Move” and the mountain shall move.
You’d think he’d know that.
And he's schooling us? 😉
It's a mustard seed the seed of faith I would buy in a new York minute ❤❤❤
they were more common in a ball shape and were quite common statement of christianity back circa 1960
Yes, knew right away, it was a mustard seed.
I love that so many of you are saying what I thought when I saw the mustard seed heart. Keep the faith!
That heart brooch-the egg yolk looking piece inside the resin is a mustard seed. This is a piece of mustard seed jewelry, which is highly collectible.
Very interesting to learn.
I have aspecial bond with my Nanna over mustard seed jewelry
Yep, yep. Yep.
Love the mustard seed
Significance sells.
Love that mustard seed heart in a heart. That belonged to someone's grandmother. To that grandmother it meant faith in God as a mustard seed can move mountains. I would buy that in a NY minute.
Would you do an episode on how to clean the vintage jewelry. Very informative. Thank you.
don't forget that Swarovski fancy stones are foil backed and and some are painted ( called delights) and Swarovski thinks a lot of their stones.
Exactly. I used to work in a costume jewelry factory in south Wales, UK. All set with Swarovski crystals which mostly had foiled backs, often including enamel, and plated with rhodium or gold. On older pieces ..Sometimes foil was used on the back of real stones and real jewlery
It is a mustard seed, and has great significance in the Bible.
Absolutely love your Presentation Rusty
I like you. You don't take up hours talking about b.s.; you get to the point and tell us exactly what to look for, etc.

Many of the brooches that are unmarked are made in Germany
And although that it is not perfect the value of the rhinestones is good
And thank you
Due to rules in war time or…?! I’ve heard there are countries that weren’t allowed to mark during a certain period (which is why I referenced war). I’ll have to do more research 🧐
The flower brooch with the pink baguettes is also a Juliana brooch...lol scored!
Rusty, that was all so fascinating! It certainly helps to focus on what is important in costume jewelry! Thanks so much!!!
Glad you enjoyed it

I had a small mustard seed charm that sold for $175 on Ebay.

I believe the first brooch has a mustard seed inside the plastic dome. Very common symbol in Christian jewellery.
Crafters would buy a bag of the discards you're finding. Worth saving from landfill.
wow that last one was gorgeous! that would make an absolutely beautiful Christmas brooch. beautiful to wear during the holiday season
Could you say what Brand you THINK they are as you are looking at them and/or about what years? It would help for beginners.
I have my mothers costume jewelry - she had some beautiful pins by Trifari and a few Avon pins from way back which are marked. Where can I sell them and are they worth anything?

Heart pin is a mustard seed inside. Yes. A Bible refrence

At times there may be no prongs but the bezel wire is used to secure the stone. Of course in a costume piece it’s just for looks, glue is used as the fixative for the stone.

First time viewer here. When filming long close up of hands holding items wear gloves so skin and nails aren't distracting and the items will show up better. Tight fitting gloves work best like white lytex or black. Thank you for all the great video and info.
It's a seed, very common ba k in the day to have a seed in clear plastic.
Hi Rusty, Absolutely awesome well explained video. Love watching you. Cheers from a Vintage Jewellery loving fellow UA-camr presenter from Down Under.
Very informative. Thank you for the info. This video popped up in my recommended videos. I will definitely check out more videos and your other channels. (And of course subscribe.)
The heart pendant is a mustard seed inside there. It is a religious symbol for faith. You have to have as much faith as a little tiny muster seed
You just broke it I liked that cameo it’s called costume for a reason
I know, right, I think most of us know what custome jewelry entails. You try to pop out any cameo with a sharp object you will get the same result good or poor quality ,bezel set or glue. Don't try this at home lol.
Hello Rusty! Ty for excellent tips! ❤😊blessings
Extremely informative! I've learned so much. Thank you :)
That. First piece is a mustard seed if you have enough faith in a mustard seed that you can move mountains that's in the kjv Bible.
Could you possibly give some more information on the databases that you were referring to? I have used the Google reverse image and I’d say about 70% of the time, there is no direct match or even anything close enough to research.
