tbh I think gambling in video games is different bc there's no real loss unless you spend actual money. yes it's disappointing to not get a character you want, but that's something that goes away quickly. it's not like you won't be able to pay rent because you lost in-game currency (if you obtained it for free).
@snailukaimo it’s still the same. Any game that’s got lootboxes is employing the exact same psychological techniques to manipulate users into spending more. Games that offer free ways to open a lootbox are just hoping the sounds and lights are enough to bring you back with money the next time. In the end they’re still targeting people vulnerable to gambling addiction.

Always fascinating events unfolding at the casino if you are watching the surroundings instead of the machines.
I wish I could be a part of a study. I'm very hard wired AGAINST gambling. The more I gamble, the more I hate it (I've never ever gambled my own money before). The sheer mathematical stupidity of it all makes me depressed when I go to a casino with friends just to eat (yes, people do that believe it or not). I'm on the spectrum, so I wonder if this has something to do with it? This is more of a localized issue, but here in Brazil sports betting and gambling apps have become a stupidly common thing. It feels like there are thousands of betting apps, you watch TV and all the ads are for sports betting. Every football team is sponsored by an app, there have been cases of players intentionally messing up to favour their own bets (these people are already millionaires, mind you), to the point where no one even trusts game results anymore, and even some large TV broadcasters have started making their own betting apps. Every once in a while something comes up on the news about some kid or teenager stealing their parents credit card and spending tens of thousands on bets, some kids at my school even got in trouble for gambling on their phones during class. And to make it even worse, the senate recently legalized these apps, because, unsurprisingly, a bunch of politicians have money invested into them. These apps are ruining people's lives, preying on poor people who are in real need of money and have been failed by the public education system.
As a person that develops addition *really* fast I hate that gambling is everywhere. I know I'm prone to addiction so I stay away, but it's really hard when it's *everywhere*. And as Ray said scrolling short form content is gambling, that's why I have app timers. I'm actually kinda terrified I'm going to start gambling online or in a casino or something and I mean that, I'm terrified, because it's so easy. I started smoking after I was of a legal age to do so, because I could just buy the cigarettes without problem, I also can gamble without problem. What people that aren't addicted to anything, or aren't aware of it, is that even thought I didn't have a cigarette for more than a year I have the urge to do it *a lot*. But it's not that easy, because I would have to go to the store and buy it etc. With online gambling? You just open up a phone app, that's dangerous af.
It’s crazy to me that people risk real money when there’s a gazillion apps with fake currency that give the same happy chemicals. Only thing you lose there is time(and your data)
People don't gamble for the fun of it, hell every casino allows you to play the same games for free. It's about the money 100%. Why? Nobody gives a shit if they lose 1000 Bruh Coins or if they win a gorillion Monopoly money. But they sure as hell remember that one dude that bought a laptop when his (absolutely unlikely) bet hit. Nevermind that same guy lost more money in the process, nobody told you that especially not him.
Online gambling is one of the plagues on our society. I say this as a recovered gambling addict. I say recovered because as a fun haha joke I tried to relapse and I didn't feel any serotonin from winning. I was already making bad decisions that year of my life. So it turns out my major depressive disorder is actually coming in clutch.
I could never understand people who play actual casinos. "Daytraders", sport betters at least think they have crazy insides, better analytics or can outsmart others on the market. But with the casino it is always plain and obvious that there is no such things, this is beyond me
Even the Tik-Tok's where you pay for them to open clams so you can see what color/size pearls you got or to see what you got in the 'scoop' of makeup you purchased...feels a lot like gambling aimed towards women, on the sly. 🤔

I used to live in Seattle, and even there, it's a true challenge to find a steak dinner that costs over 100 dollars. Where the heck do you live that steak is double the price of the most expensive steaks in the USA?
I blessedly have never had an issue as I grew up watching how addiction ruined lives for some family members. I won't touch a casino simply because I've seen how much I lose at an arcade ...I could only imagine I almost got sucked into pokemon and magic 😔

I was at a bar with my friend the other day and he just casually dropped that's he's down FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS IN SPORTS BETTING ??? I was like how are you so casual ab this??
Clearly only card games are considered addictive since online poker is still banned at the federal level here in the US. I say this tongue in cheek as gambling is rampant. Ads are everywhere and games are no longer about actual skill. It only matters what your loot box gives or how much the bonus the betting company is giving you. And it’s all to keep you playing. That’s it.
That's an investment, not a gamble. Investing and gambling both involve risks, but there are key differences: when you invest, you have an equal chance of losing or earning a return, but when you gamble, the odds are usually against you.
Stephanie Sterling has a lot of brilliant videos on the rise of gambling in video games, and it's been both interesting and deeply effing concerning seeing it seep from mobile games into both other video games and other mobile apps and social media
Children are being introduced to gambling earlier and earlier because it's everywhere now!! That sure is a massive gambling problem..

I could never understand people who play actual casinos. "Daytraders", sport betters at least think they have crazy insides, better analytics or can outsmart others on the market. But with the casino it is always plain and obvious that there is no such things, this is beyond me
ZHOU GUANYU MENTIONED
Zhoints 🏎️🇨🇳
Even the Tik-Tok's where you pay for them to open clams so you can see what color/size pearls you got or to see what you got in the 'scoop' of makeup you purchased...feels a lot like gambling aimed towards women, on the sly. 🤔
Not to sound like a Puritan but I hate seeing gambling adds every time I watch hockey with my family
ALL RISE THE KING HAS UPLOADED 🤩🤩
love the editing style in this one. great work, ray!
the fact that the first thing I think abt when stake is mentioned is sauber, bottas and gaunyu is actually CRAZY 😭😭😭
hits hard when 5 people in my class are addicted to gambling. I have no idea how they out their bank account without getting caught by their parents on the gambling websites.
how ironic that the ad i got before this vid was a "make money by playing games" app
Genshin Impact being the elephant in the room LOL 15:20
6:51 the ad read ends
They did an experiment. A cat randomly choosing stocks against managed funds. The cat did better, lol.
The amount of gambling ads I get watching podcasts is starting to get on me nerve
Although I didn't wake up early today, it was just in time to catch Ray's video! What a beautiful morning, this is the only sunshine I need 🌞
I won't touch a casino simply because I've seen how much I lose at an arcade ...I could only imagine
I almost got sucked into pokemon and magic 😔
Im not even done with the video yet but finally someone mentioned Zhou and Bottas (or F1 in general) when talking about Stake. Omfg I cannot wait until they go back to being a normal car in 2026. Now we just gotta handle Visa CashApp Racing Bulls or whatever the hell that is
When you said at the end about it being a stake conspiracy...I thought you meant steak for a second and I felt ok about it because steak is good. 😂
That is such an interesting room you are filming in it has some really nice wood work in there.
I played $50 on an online casino and already said fk this. I would rather go to a irl casino if I was going to actually lose hundreds to thousands.
Australia has been dealing with this for a decade, it sucks that it's now mushed its way into the US.
Lets go gambling
aw dang it
I'm actually winning
I just have a gambling addiction with Lego custom minifigures
I kinda love that you opened with one of the things I've noticed people doing more now than ever before: Using words like "Parlay" completely wrong 😅
Freakin tencent tryin to make me think I need a 200$ skin though gatcha
YESS A NEW VIDEO! I LOVE YOU RAYYY 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I don't typcally say this but very well crafted video, I'm subscribing
You went to a steak dinner?! And you didn't even invite me?? 😦😭 I see how it is. Time to go back to doom scrolling I guess 🙄😤🤬
i love being on the light side of the internet :D we talk about gambling and alpha males
The internet is a network of computers and servers transmitting data to each other. Many societies have elemants of people with gambling addictions.
I was at a bar with my friend the other day and he just casually dropped that's he's down FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS IN SPORTS BETTING ??? I was like how are you so casual ab this??
Love when the algorithm recommends me a channel I haven't seen and actually like for one 🎉
Bruh Why is this guy so naturally funny 😭😂
Thank you raylikesunshine for inventing UA-cam videos
Your style gives a bit of NakeyJakey vibe and I’m about it, nice work brotha🤘🏼
Gambling ads: 1st try, you became a trillionaire
Gambling: RIGGED AF!
Refreshing honesty about the perils of gambling 👏
Clearly only card games are considered addictive since online poker is still banned at the federal level here in the US.
I say this tongue in cheek as gambling is rampant. Ads are everywhere and games are no longer about actual skill. It only matters what your loot box gives or how much the bonus the betting company is giving you. And it’s all to keep you playing. That’s it.
Speaking of gambling, I wish I could buy calls on your channels sub count lol
i don't get how watching someone gamble would even be remotely enjoyable
The sponsor doesn't sound suspicious at ALL.
love the energy, can identify myself with that
Ray is the sunshine in my yt feed
Life is just one big gamble.
Opening a small businesses or restaurants is a gamble. Many ever year lose moneg and go bankrupt
THIS !
That's an investment, not a gamble. Investing and gambling both involve risks, but there are key differences: when you invest, you have an equal chance of losing or earning a return, but when you gamble, the odds are usually against you.
@@BeatNick-f4qwhat do you mean by THIS!, this is the weakest analogy I have ever heard
Just found this guy and his ADHD matched mine immediately i thought it was hilarious dark humor lmao
neopets turned me into a gambler
Okay.....this was hilarious....im subscribed now
Thank u
Stephanie Sterling has a lot of brilliant videos on the rise of gambling in video games, and it's been both interesting and deeply effing concerning seeing it seep from mobile games into both other video games and other mobile apps and social media
I live in Minnesota where Sports betting isn't even legal, but I used to get sorts betting apps ads like every other ad on UA-cam
12 hours ago? Earliest I’ve ever been. Thanks for getting me through the day, Ray.
