If Audient releases this interface in its next Mark2 iteration with MIDI Ports and DC Coupled I/Os for modular synthesis will conquer the world of audio interfaces! Mark my words.
Given how feature packed this is, given that is rack-mountable (albeit with optional rack ears) I don't understand why the unit wasn't made just a little longer so that MIDI ports could be included.
The dynamic range the spec sheet lists is incredible for this price range! Thinking of getting 2 units to drive an Atmos system somewhere down the road
I currently have a Roland Studio Capture and love the AutoSens feature to allow me to set levels on my drums mics within seconds. I see this has a similar feature, but of course this feature will not work on ADAT connected preamps, since the interface does not have the capability to directly control gain structure on a random device over ADAT connection. My question is, does Audient have plans to release an EVO line of preamps that can be added to this and retain the auto level settings downstream from the primary interface? Thanks
Hi from the USA! Congratulations on the release of this product! I am the happy owner of an EVO 8. The EVO 16 is $500 in the USA and needs an AC cord; it is not USB powered. Ah, well. It's really for Pros but I'm just an amateur bathroom (er, family room) singer! :) I've recorded with the EVO 8 and it is superb. The BEST PART of the Evo 8 is how I can take my cell phone or Galaxy Tab, connect the headphone jack via a split 3.5 to 1/4 cable and plug that into the back of the EVO using two of the XLR inputs. This is so good for karaoke or any kind of musical accompaniment.
Hello! Can someone confirm please if the preamps are really fully bypassed when using the line balanced 1/4 inch TRS input so o I can use with external preamps? Thanks!
The pre-amps aren't bypassed on the line inputs. However at minimum gain, they are really clean so you pass an external pre-amp through them without additional noise or distortion.
The unit can be externally clocked via the ADAT inputs if required. The pre-amps are a different design with digital control to allow for the Smart Gain feature. The pre-amps are super clean and flat though so are ideal for recording any kind of instruments or vocals.
It would be so awesome, if you'd manage to implement a crossfeed function for the Headphone outs. I don't know if this would be possible via Firmware-Update (because otherwise how would you change it after shipping begun?) Would be really nice. Thank you for this fascinating product. Definitely will be my upgrade-path interface-wise.
Midi in/out and a clock connection would have been nice. Inserts would have also been nice. Some of us are still doing live audio. Love having a rack-mountable solution. Shame it is an extra cost. I have a place in my rack for something like this. At a full 19" You could have given us RCA for monitors. Do the headphone outputs support 4 volts? Darn, 300/600-ohm headphones don't much like 2volts, and most of the headphone amps measure based on 4 volts in. 32 bit / 384khz would also have been nice but I don't have any real use case for better than Redbook. All the bells and whistles are in the id44 MkII but the form factor wastes space on my desk and the fancy box wastes money from my wallet. Looking forward to hearing more about this piece of kit.
Is there any frequency and phase chart of the analog loopback in order to check if there is linear response on the AD/DA filters? This EVO looks very interesting.
@@weareevoaudio Thanks, but I'm interested in the external loopback, which always suffers from passing filters and thus frequency and/or phase distortion. I'm wondering what the levels of this distortion are. Unfortunately it is not possible to test the interfaces before purchase... any chance?
Are you ever going to make a rack mountable iD interface? I have the 22 but also the Nero and ASP 880 and I need to replace the iD22 with something to put in the rack but don't want to move away from Audient.
How will mixing 7.1 and Dolby Atmos work in ProTools Studio when connecting active Monitors to the rear 8 outputs? Any software for controlling levels to the speakers?
The EVO software doesn't provide monitor controls for surround sound I'm afraid so you would need to use an external controller or control the levels in your DAW.
This is looking awesome. I have the EVO 8 and love it for small sessions on location. But if I were to upgrade my bigger location setup with one of these, I'd like ideally 8 Mono Mixes; from what I've seen it's four stereo cues in the software but what I'd like to know is if those four stereo cues can be split into 8 mono ones?
The CUES can also be used as 8 mono mixes, you'd simply treat the left channel as channel 1 and the right as channel 2 and make use of the Pan controls in the CUE mixers to decide which channels the audio is sent to.
Are the mic pre's bypassed when using the line inputs on the back of the unit? I'm wondering if it works well with outboard preamps if that is not an option
The pre-amps aren't bypassed when using the Line inputs. However the pre-amps are clean enough that you'll no noticeable colouration or distortion from passing an external pre-amp through them. Just keep the EVO's gain down at minimum and it'll sound great!
Never used an Audient interface before, but I'm never far away when a new interface with 6+ line outs gets announced (I work in film post-production and occasionally need to mix in surround). I've been using a Tascam 208i for a good bit, and while I'm mostly happy with it, the driver is in serious need of an update (released in 2019, still on 1.00...) as pretty much all the hiccups I experience with it seem related to how it interfaces with Windows. Unfortunately I have extremely little faith in Tascam ever doing anything about it. Kind of a shame because otherwise it's a great piece of gear (great preamps, tons of I/O, nice form-factor, individual inst/mic-line/+48v switches per input, word clock I/O). Can anyone here speak on Audient's track record for supporting their products post-release? For $500 the Evo 16 looks awesome.
If it helps, we're still releasing new drivers and updates for all our interfaces, including the iD22 which was released all then way back in 2013 so you won't need to worry about the EVO 16 not being properly supported.
@@weareevoaudio That's encouraging. This seems like a good unit for post users in small 5.1 setups. I use the snapshot setup in RMEs Totalmix software quite often. -edit- I found the manual on the website. The link above requires some javascript or other stuff that gets blocked here. The Snapshots, called mixer configurations, are file based. Not a huge deal to be honest, but still less convenient than I'd like :) . For the RME units, you can use a midi keyboard to call up snapshots if you want. I use a Korg Nanopad2(bank 2 sends the right notes). As a feature suggestion, build a snapshot feature, so people can call up different setups. Let users trigger them with midi notes or stuff like Elgato Streamdeck keys. In fact, let users control anything sensible that way. Customization is a very good thing to have. Just look at Reaper.
Hello! Would it be feasible to connect two ASP800s by ADAT, in order to record 24 inputs at once? It's no trouble to connect one ADAT mic pre unit, as the wordclock slave, but what about the 2nd ADAT mic pre unit? Since it wouldn't be receiving wordclock, it might have jitter, or not pass audio at all. Can you shed some light on how to record 24 tracks at once using the Evo16?
Yes, you can connect two ASP800's via ADAT to record 24 channels at the same time. You'd just need to use a BNC T-Connector on the first ASP800 to split the BNC word clock signal. You can then connect the second ASP800 to this T-connector so it also receives the Word Clock. Ensure that the 75 Ohm termination switch is only pressed on the second ASP800. You can find more information about this setup on Page 36 of the EVO's User Manual which can be downloaded here: evo.audio/products/audio-interfaces/evo-16/downloads/
Does the EVO 16 have independent phantom power for all 8 preamps? Usually, it's shared across multiple inputs (e.g. Universal Audio Volt 476P, Focusrite 18i20, etc.). That would be pretty nice, if so. Just bummed about the lack of M.I.D.I. I/O. No dedicated headphone volume knobs and a power switch aren't terrible to keep things sleek, but M.I.D.I. would make this a no-brainer, for me. Thanks in advance!
The EVO 16's phantom power is switched independently for each channel. Just press the channel button you wish to apply phantom power and tap the +48V button to apply it to that channel. This can also be done from the software as well. As a lot of modern MIDI devices now operate on USB we did decide not to add MIDI ports to the interface. Plus, you can get a USB MIDI interface fairly cheaply nowadays.
I can't use Audient products because I do Eurorack stuff. I wish I could buy 4 of these EVO 16 for helpers at my studio. But Audient does not have DC coupled inputs and outputs. So that means we can't do CV/gate control with Eurorack stuff. I have to go with something like MOTU 8A which costs more and is missing a lot of functionality, or something like PreSonus 1824c which is lower quality than Audient. We are just using small setups and being able to directly hook up Eurorack stuff is very important. And all our analog monosynths have various extra inputs and outputs for CV using the industry standard plug, so we just want to hook the audio interface up to the synth. This is huge, please don't underestimate it. It's possible to add more gear and bootstrap this with Expert Sleepers but that adds complexity multiplied for every workstation, you can't just go grab a synth and bring it to your workstation and plug some CV controls into the audio interface, clean and straight forward, you need to connect a second DC coupled audio interface up to the Audient, so now we are doubling everything and it does not even make any sense. I think Audient is a cool company but I was not able to find any solution for using Audient products with Eurorack. Please consider making a product that can compete with MOTU, Apogee, Lynx, PreSonus, Universal Audio, who all have DC coupled converters.

Hi @evo . I have a question, I record drums in my home studio, I need to replace my Presonus Digimax LT and I was thinking to replace it with an Audient ASP 800, but now this Evo 16 seems to be a better Idea. This is correct? Does Evo 16 use the same transformers and converters than the ASP 800?
The ASP800 and the EVO 16 do have slightly different Pre-amps and converters but in terms of audio quality and specs, the two are very similar. Please note, however, that EVO 16 is designed as an Audio interface whereas the ASP800 is an ADAT pre-amp that requires an ADAT equipped audio interface to connect it to your computer.

@@weareevoaudio thanks for the info. I have an Audient Sono as an audio interface. But I like the features of the EVO 16. That's why I'm asking... So instead to have the ASP 800 + Sono, I could have more Audient features without loose quality.
You can link it up with the Octopre provided it supports ADAT. You just won't get the same level of integration (remote mic pre-control over ADAT...etc) that you would if using the EVO 16 with an EVO SP8
The EVO 16 doesn't have 5.1 or 7.1 monitor controls built into the software, so you would need to have some kind of external monitor controller if you were using the EVO 16 for surround sound.
Can the Evo 16 be used as another 8 channel ADAT preamp ad da converter (connected to another adat interface)? If so, will the headphone outputs mirror outputs 1 and 2? Or will they just be disabled? Thanks. Also I was trying to read about standalone mode. It talks about being to use this just as an 8 channel preamp. Do the preamps get routed directly to the outputs? Is this a digital or analog routing? Does conversion take place? Thanks for answering my techie questions!
You can set up the unit to work as a standalone pre-amp by routing the pre-amps of the EVO 16 through the CUE mixes to the output and storing this in the standalone state. It's not the most elegant solution as you won't be able to adjust your sample rates/clocking on the fly but it should work. However if you did just need a standalone Pre-amp, we'd recommend the EVO SP8 which is designed from the ground up to work as a standalone ADAT expander unit
Most hardware gear will output a line-level signal so you can plug the outputs of your hardware into the line inputs of the EVO 16. You can then feed the hardware using the Line outputs, using the DAW THRU function in the routing panel to send audio directly from the DAW to the output to be used a a hardware insert. If you're still unsure about the routing, send a message to support@evo.audio with the details of what gear you are trying to connect and we can help you.
I purchased my EVO 16 in may, and recieved it a couple weeks ago. Having trouble requesting my rack ears as there is no selection in the menu for this product on the Audient website
EVO 16 is fully compatible with Pro Tools. It doesn't have built in 5.1 monitor controls however so an external 5.1 controller would need to be used for this.
What would you connect to the adat to get more inputs? I saw another question answered that you can't link two of these interfaces so I'm just wondering where the other inputs can come from
You can connect any external device that supports ADAT or S/PDIF over an optical connection. Audient's ASP880 or ASP800 would be an excellent match for the EVO 16 but there are numerous other devices on the market as well.
The standalone state allows you to save a mixer configuration onto the unit and use that without the unit connected to a PC. However, its more designed for if you were using the EVO 16 as a live interface rather than a standalone ADAT device such as the SP8 since its not easy to setup the clocking when using the standalone state so we couldn't really recommend the EVO 16 for this application
So for podcasting, if you want to take calls through your computer and want to mix minus, can this do that? I had my eye on the rodecaster pro but I'd rather get this if it has mix minus.
very curious if we'll be able to apply plugins to the cue mixes on the audient software mixer, like for when a vocalist wants to hear reverb while they're recording, but not actually having the reverb recorded. anyone know about this??
Hello there, this isn't something we'll be able to add. In order for the reverb to have low enough latency it would need to run on DSP on the interface itself and the EVO 16 doesn't have the DSP to do this. The best workaround for this is to add a reverb to the track in your DAW and set it to fully wet. You can then mix the fully wet reverb with the dry mic signal and any latency is simply heard as a small pre-delay on the reverb.
@@weareevoaudio losing this ability, which i have with my Apollo set up, might be something i have to sacrifice...because i have been looking for a way out of my universal audio prison. and i think these evos just might set me free ;) (I'm a solo artist/drummer/producer and love the smart gain as well as the quality preamps for the extremely reasonable price)
Thank you for an excellent run-through of this product! However. . . There's no information on the mic-pres. Are they the same mic-pres used on the id44? A friend of mine has the older id44, and those pres are super good.
The EVO 16 uses a newly designed pre-amp with digital control allowing for features such as Smart Gain. The pre-amp was designed to be clean, neutral and fast, just like the Audient Console pre-amps so you should get a very similar sound from the EVO 16!
I am looking at this one and the ID44. I was sold on it until this one dropped. I absolutely love the ease of use the Evo offers but I’m also super picky about pre amps and conversion and know the id44 uses the same pres as my existing preamps use. I’ll be using whichever I pick with two of the audient 800 series pre amps via Adat . Any advice? This is hard
If you haven't already I'd highly recommend watching Julian Krause's reviews of interfaces from the same range. If there's no specific reason you'd want the id44 over the EVo 16 I'd personally go for the EVO. It's feature-set is just much larger. The only thing the id44 has the EVO 16 really "lacks" is phase-swiching and low end cut, which can both be done digitally anyways as well as a 10db ad as far as I can see. If you already have two preamps you really won't be needing more padded channels in any recording situation I can think of. The smart gain feature also looks to be quite useful. This is obviously just my take on the comparison, but even without having the preamps I'd still be more compelled to buy the EVO 16. I obviously haven't measured it, but I'd assume it has higher audio quality as well. Since it won't ship for another couple of days/weeks I'd honestly just wait it out and look for insightful videos on the EVO. I hope this helped!
@@yona9798 thank you very much for the insight. I tend to agree with you. My only real reason for continuing to look at the ID44 was it has their console pre amps (same as my current ones) and the EVO series has EVO pre amps at least this is my understanding. Im leaning towards the EVO at this point.
The JFET input only applies if you have the Instrument mode enabled on channels 1+2. Otherwise, input 1+2 are just standard Mic/Line inputs and will be able to send full phantom power to a condenser microphone connected via the XLR input
@@weareevoaudio I just got mine and I’m getting a high pitched feedback from both 1 & 2 when I’m running a XLR condenser mic with 48v. Is this is a defect? How do I get in touch with Audient?
Can you please send a message to support@audient.com and our team can help you troubleshoot this. If you can include a recording of the noise you are hearing that would be great!
Amazing! Can’t get over the price and features. I currently have an Apollo Twin……would the EVO 16 be happy as an ADAT extender? I could then use the EVO16 on location 🤔
The EVO 16 is designed as a Main Interface and a large amount of its features are accessed over USB using the EVO mixer software. If its used as an ADAT extension without USB connected then you would loose a great deal of these features.
@@weareevoaudio So…..are you saying it would work as an ADAT Extender?? The reason I ask is that this would be perfect for me to use as an extender in my studio but 110% perfect for taking out on its own as an interface with my MacBook for location recording (drums, bands etc using all features)……so best of both worlds. 🤔
Great looking interface....my questions are...for multi-channel monitoring can the outputs be ganged to to control the output gain? If so, can the optical outputs as well as the line outputs be controlled in the same way?
Same question for a spoken word podcast producer. The Evo 16 allows for bigger productions with more inputs and the smart gain feature allows me to get up and running quicker. I do wish there was DSP on the unit for livestreams but there are other solutions for this.
Just to be clear, connecting 2 16 is not recommended? Ordered 2 since I need 16 line inputs. Was hoping for multi device drivers and having the ability to use the features with the slaved 16. Need to figure this out asap. There’s no confirmation anywhere.
Does it have better converters than ID series? Does the Evo 4 have the same preamps and converters or is this a total upgrade? It seems it sounds much better compared to other models.
The Converters are slightly different to the iD range but both will give you great-sounding recordings. The EVO 4 has the same pre-amps but again, has slightly different converters so the EVO 16 does have slightly higher specs. That being said, they do all sound great so we'd recommend choosing based on the feature set and I/O that you require rather than small differences in specs.
While this is technically possible, it's not really what the EVO 16 is designed for and a couple of dedicated Pre-amps units, such as the ASP800 connected up to an EVO 16 would make for a much more elegant setup.
Hello, this isn't currently possible on the EVO, the volume control will only control a stereo pair but this is something we are currently investigating to see if we can add this as a firmware update so hopefully we can add this function in the near future.
The Pre-amps can't be bypassed I'm afraid, but the EVO pre-amps are clean enough that you can run an external pre-amp through via the line input and have no noticeable distortion or colouration.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think the Gen 1 6i6 has ADAT support? Either way, the EVO 16 doesn't handle MIDI so for anything MIDI related, we'd recommend a separate USB MIDI interface.
oh nooo I already bought the id14 mkii! I enjoy recording with it but I have only 2 input and only 1 jfet! This one seams to be a focusrite 18i20 rack competitor, having probably a better SW and better converters! How much it cost?
Make it with 2 XLR outputs and 6 TRS, midi and rack mounted (without the need to buy extra parts) and you have the best interface (in this price bracket) on the market.
Yes, it should work just find with electronic drums. You can take the individual outputs (kick, snare...etc) from the control unit of the drums and connect the to the 8 line inputs of the EVO 16 to capture in your DAW. If you're drum kit doesn't have individual outputs then you can just use the stereo output and connect this to two channels on the EVO 16.
anyone knows why does the evo 16 is cheaper than the id44 despite having way more pres and functionalities? what other benefits do you get from an id44 over evo 16 for paying more?
there's one thing I can't find anywhere else: can you daisy chain two evo 16 together, or even 3? evo 16 and sp8 are the same thing and are only few bucks apart, so I'd rather get two or three standalone units that I can chain up into a bigger system for the same money more or less. thanks!
The EVO 16 isn't really designed to function as a standalone device so while it is technically possible, it's not a particularly elegant workflow because you cannot change the sample rate, clocking, audio routing...etc, without being connected to a PC. We would instead recommend the EVO 16 paired with 1 or 2 SP8's.
@@weareevoaudio thanks for the reply! what I meant is: can I use two evo16 one into the other via adat? or via usb daisy chain? the meaning of my comment was that if evo16 and sp8 are basically the same box but without the usb connection (and related electronics ofc) and cost almost the same, I'd rather purchase 2 or 3 evo 16 so that I have by all means 3 audio interface that I can then combo up to make a bigger rig. idk if it's clear!
Sorry if I wasn't clear, but we don't recommend using multiple EVO 16's together as they cannot be daisy-chained via USB and do not work well when connected together via ADAT. They have slightly different DSP mixer setups onboard and the SP8's is more suited to work as a standalone device.
it would be interesting to - even if just in the form of a short comment - expand on why it is not possible! there are a lot of interfaces on my mind that can easily be daisy chained.
The way that the software mixer is setup on the EVO 16 means that you'd need to use the CUE mixes to route audio from the Analog I/O to the Digital I/O. There is only enough DSP power on-board to have 8 channels of CUE mixes so you'd be limited to either the 8 inputs, 8 outputs, or a small mix of both but you wouldn't be able to use the full ADAT I/O whilst the EVO 16 is in standalone mode. Furthermore, because the EVO 16 is designed to work with the mixer software, it doesn't have the function on board to adjust the clock source or the sample rate which makes setting it up as a standalone ADAT device fairly tricky. While the EVO 16 and SP8 do look similar, they are setup differently internally as they both have different US cases, I hope this clarifies this for you.
Can I have 2 or 3 Evo 16 - where one is the interface and the other one or 2 are standalone? Or do I have to use it as an aggregate device? what is the best way
Hello, it's not possible to use multiple EVO 16's together in the same setup I'm afraid. We'd reccomend pairing an EVO 16 with something like an ASP880 or ASP800 to get higher channel counts.
You can flip the polarity of every input by pressing the Ø button found at the top of each input channel in the software mixer. It isn't possible to flip the polarity of your outputs though I'm afraid.
Its not possible to bypass the pre-amps but you as the pre-amps are so clean, you can connect a external pre and run it via the line input and get no noticeable colouration or distortion.
It isn't really designed to be a standalone unit. In theory, it can be done, but you wouldn't be getting the most out of the EVO 16's features using it in this fashion.
Yes, you can use ASP800 with EVO 16. You'd simply connect the ADAT outputs of the ASP800 to the ADAT inputs of the EVO 16. You can then set the clock source of the EVO 16 to Optical in order to keep everything in sync.
Hoi,Nice video. If you don't mind I have a question:I have the Scarlett focusrite and I have DBX 286s.I am looking a EQ device around 150-200 euros where I can EQ my voice. My English is bad I am sorry for this.So i need a device to let's say make my voice warmer or stronger or give a little bit umph.I hope i could explain what I mean.I need a device not a software. Can you please advise a device to make a voice warmer or darker or radio voice etc. Please let me know, you can send me a link of copple maybe then I buy from your link so you can get also some money from the seller. I am living in Holland. If you can help or not I thank you
You can use either device as the main interface, you'd just have to use the standalone state on the other to route the inputs to the outputs. It isn't really what the iD44 or EVO 16 are designed for however.
The ones using USB 1 are outdated. USB 2 is fine because 480Mbits/s is still way overkill for sound streams. One stream of 16 bit @ 48kHz takes 768kbit/s if you take 20 of these channels you still have 1536 kbit/s or 1.5 Mbit/s. Its not even scratching the limit. Like me you could be using 96000Hz in 24bit with all the channels, in which case you'll hit the limit somewhere after 200 channels. So basically we dont need USB 3 for audio. It makes more sense for others things
The EVO 16 doesn't have built-in MIDI I/O I'm afraid as a large majority of modern MIDI devices will connect via USB anyway. You can easily pick up an inexpensive USB MIDI interface from most audio stores for any MIDI devices that use a 5 Pin DIN lead.
Its not possible to bypass the pre-amps but you as the pre-amps are so clean, you can connect a external pre and run it via the line input and get no noticeable colouration or distortion
I have the Evo 16. I love the sound. But I have a big complain. I also use it to monitor 5.1 setup for post production. I think the Evo mixer is seriously lacking of features for this purpose. When routing output channels separately, referred a s mono in the software, there's no longer any option to manage the signal, it just goes thru. No dim option, no control over the entire setup, no individual volume control option. The last one being very desirable for fine calibration purposes. There's always a workaround, for example in the DAW. But that helps only with the master volume. For individual channel outputs, there's only the chance to do calibration outside the interface, at the amplification stage. I chose Evo for its sound quality and I don't regret that, but in this matter, the Focusrite mixer at the price tag competition is much better as it allows overall control over the signal, regardless of the output configuration. I hope Audient is capable of improve this issue. I don't think is a matter of hardware design, rather than a software design. You'll win way more customers, sice by this moment, the Focusrite i largely chosen by sound editors in this price braquet.
It's not possible to bypass the pre-amps on the EVO 16, however, the pre-amps are clean enough that you can pass an external signal through without noticeable colouration or distortion.
@@weareevoaudio Ok thx, I understand. I just want an audio interface to expand the number of input/output on my MPC. And then I can root and mix things inside of the MPC, without a specific app)
I was about to order ID22 but I am glad that I did not, because there is no reason for me to buy ID22 when I can buy EVO 16 for the same price and get way more features. This one seems to be better in every way or am I wrong? What do you say? Could someone explain why I would need to consider ID22 instead of this one? Both have preamps for microphone and I believe my new upgrade Neumann TLM 107 Black Edition together with Alcatron 100 and the EVO 16 would be the best buy, or would any disagree and rather advice me to go for the ID22 instead of EVO16? Thanks for reply!
I believe you can bypass the preamps with the iD22. You cannot with the Evo16, even through the Line Inputs. Whether that results in a noticeable sound quality (rolled off HFs for example) seems debatable.
Little late to the party but I'd be super grateful if someone could let me know if you can get 5.1 surround through Windows with this device. :) Thank you!

Looks like an amazing offer. Only doubt is no clock input. Also wondering how the pre-amps compare with the ID series (which I’ve been impressed by)
The unit can be externally clocked via the ADAT inputs if required. The pre-amps are a different design with digital control to allow for the Smart Gain feature. The pre-amps are super clean and flat though so are ideal for recording any kind of instruments or vocals.
This looks pretty impressive. Might get one for my drum studio.
It would be so awesome, if you'd manage to implement a crossfeed function for the Headphone outs.
I don't know if this would be possible via Firmware-Update (because otherwise how would you change it after shipping begun?)
Would be really nice.
Thank you for this fascinating product.
Definitely will be my upgrade-path interface-wise.
amazing audio interface
I don't have any charts but the loopback is handled in the digital domain so there's no risk of a non-linear response.
@@weareevoaudio Thanks, but I'm interested in the external loopback, which always suffers from passing filters and thus frequency and/or phase distortion. I'm wondering what the levels of this distortion are. Unfortunately it is not possible to test the interfaces before purchase... any chance?
I don't have these figures to hand at the moment but I'll see if we can measure this and let you know!
Funny that you show a NI USB Midi controller when you talk about recording line level equipment ;) Amazing interface though! Love mine!
Are the mic pre's bypassed when using the line inputs on the back of the unit? I'm wondering if it works well with outboard preamps if that is not an option
Same questions! The Motu Ultralite mk5 does allow for bypassing its preamps.
I agree, I think that smart gain is amazing function. But it is not a compressor. so, essentially, I need outboard so need bypssing the preamps. :)
The pre-amps aren't bypassed when using the Line inputs. However the pre-amps are clean enough that you'll no noticeable colouration or distortion from passing an external pre-amp through them. Just keep the EVO's gain down at minimum and it'll sound great!
@@weareevoaudio Ty !!
@@weareevoaudio Awesome, thank you!
@@weareevoaudio good to know!
Yes, you can save and recall multiple setups in the EVO mixer software.
Product support is excellent
could be great if we can add vsts inside the software. I would buy this.
Waiting for Julian Krause review this
Does the EVO 16 have independent phantom power for all 8 preamps?
@@weareevoaudio, appreciate the reply and the clarification! I think you guys just won out over Universal Audio's Volt 476P, then.
Waiting for julian krause video about this interface 👍
Can this be used as additional preamps via Adat? I already have my main audio interface and just want to use this to add 8 pres to my system.
The EVO 16 is really designed to be a host interface rather than an extender unit so I would really recommend it for this usage.
This is awesome.
hey guys, great thing you build there. is it also possible, to link it with a Scarlett Octopre via Adat or can it only handle the evo SP8 units?
You can link it up with the Octopre provided it supports ADAT. You just won't get the same level of integration (remote mic pre-control over ADAT...etc) that you would if using the EVO 16 with an EVO SP8
can I use the 8 line outpu to create a 7.1 studio monitor setup?.. can it be routed to each channel for 7.1 arrangement inside the control software?
@@weareevoaudio thank you for your reply! Helps me zero in on my needs!!!!
Please tell me that Motion UI is not an Elektron App? :)
Hey guys!! Is there by any chance a way to work inserts through the evo16? And what equipments should be added to make it possible??
Could you expand on what you mean sorry? Are you trying to set it up to use Hardware Inserts in the DAW or inserts on your inputs while tracking?
@@weareevoaudio I mean, is there any way of using outboard gear as inserts on the evo16? Line Input level never works as insert input level right?
Hello there, if you contact us at support@audient.com, our team will be able to assist you with ordering the rack ears.
I got the rack ears (thank you)
Any comment on its compatibility with post production DAWs like Pro Tools and usability for surround sound set up(5.1 and up)?
EVO 16 is fully compatible with Pro Tools. It doesn't have built in 5.1 monitor controls however so an external 5.1 controller would need to be used for this.
What would you connect to the adat to get more inputs? I saw another question answered that you can't link two of these interfaces so I'm just wondering where the other inputs can come from
You can connect any external device that supports ADAT or S/PDIF over an optical connection. Audient's ASP880 or ASP800 would be an excellent match for the EVO 16 but there are numerous other devices on the market as well.
Can EVO-16 be used as a Standalone converter like the SP-8? It has a "Standalone" mode, but it's not clear what the means from the manual.
Yes, you can set up a Mix Minus using the Loopback and the EVO mixer software.
very curious if we'll be able to apply plugins to the cue mixes on the audient software mixer, like for when a vocalist wants to hear reverb while they're recording, but not actually having the reverb recorded. anyone know about this??
Are the JFET preamps (1 & 2) also compatible with condenser mics using the 48v phantom power?
The EVO 16 is not really designed to be used as an extender so we wouldn't really recommend it for this use.
@@weareevoaudio Mind to elaborate?
Rodecaster PRO 2 came out too which one too get???? probably the main competition for this
Same question for a spoken word podcast producer.
The EVO 16 isn't designed to be used as a standalone device or for two units to be used together I'm afraid.
@@weareevoaudio EVO 16 sounds way smooother and it sounds like it has bigger soundstage or more headroom everything is just more dynamic.
damn which to get rodecaster pro 2 or Evo 16 but both don't show any availability in canada :-*(
EVO 16 will be in Canada soon!
Is it possible to use 2 or 3 together, one as a master and the others connected via optical?
While this is technically possible, it's not really what the EVO 16 is designed for and a couple of dedicated Pre-amps units, such as the ASP800 connected up to an EVO 16 would make for a much more elegant setup.
Is it possible to control all output channels simutaniously? I'm considering to get this interface as a DAC/Preamp for a 5.1.2 atmos setup
Hello, this isn't currently possible on the EVO, the volume control will only control a stereo pair but this is something we are currently investigating to see if we can add this as a firmware update so hopefully we can add this function in the near future.
Wow, excellent product. Can the line inputs handle eurorack level signals?
The line inputs will happily accept signal from eurorack modules.
Can the preamps be bypass with an analog preamp like the ID22?
The Pre-amps can't be bypassed I'm afraid, but the EVO pre-amps are clean enough that you can run an external pre-amp through via the line input and have no noticeable distortion or colouration.
Upgrading from my gen 1 6i6. Will I be able to connect it via ADAT for midi channel control? Thanks.
This one seams to be a focusrite 18i20 rack competitor, having probably a better SW and better converters!

same boat!! love my id14 mkii but now I have to get another Audient. not complaining 🤩
@@weareevoaudio thanks, could you please let me know which one of id14mkii and evo16 has the best audio quality?
Both devices will give you great audio quality so it really depends on how much I/O you need and what form factor works best for your workflow.
Make it with 2 XLR outputs and 6 TRS, midi and rack mounted (without the need to buy extra parts) and you have the best interface (in this price bracket) on the market.
beautiful product.
I'm new to working with this kind of equipment. Will this work with electronic drums?
Yes, it should work just find with electronic drums. You can take the individual outputs (kick, snare...etc) from the control unit of the drums and connect the to the 8 line inputs of the EVO 16 to capture in your DAW.
If you're drum kit doesn't have individual outputs then you can just use the stereo output and connect this to two channels on the EVO 16.
anyone knows why does the evo 16 is cheaper than the id44 despite having way more pres and functionalities? what other benefits do you get from an id44 over evo 16 for paying more?
there's one thing I can't find anywhere else:
can you daisy chain two evo 16 together, or even 3?
evo 16 and sp8 are the same thing and are only few bucks apart, so I'd rather get two or three standalone units that I can chain up into a bigger system for the same money more or less.
While the EVO 16 and SP8 do look similar, they are setup differently internally as they both have different US cases, I hope this clarifies this for you.
it works with ios (iPhone/iPads) ??
This would be great!
EVO 16 isn't officially supported on iOS I'm afraid.
@@weareevoaudio doh, this is quite a downside :(
Can I have 2 or 3 Evo 16 - where one is the interface and the other one or 2 are standalone? Or do I have to use it as an aggregate device? what is the best way
Hello, it's not possible to use multiple EVO 16's together in the same setup I'm afraid. We'd reccomend pairing an EVO 16 with something like an ASP880 or ASP800 to get higher channel counts.
Can you reverse the polarity on the Audient 16?
You can flip the polarity of every input by pressing the Ø button found at the top of each input channel in the software mixer.
It isn't possible to flip the polarity of your outputs though I'm afraid.
Is it possible to bypass the internal PreAmps when using an external PreAmp via Line in?
Its not possible to bypass the pre-amps but you as the pre-amps are so clean, you can connect a external pre and run it via the line input and get no noticeable colouration or distortion.
Hello, Evo 16 have midi imput/ output? Cheers from argentina
The EVO 16 has no MIDI I/O, for this, we'd recommend pairing the EVO 16 with a cheap USB MIDI interface.
I would like to buy two of these in Lincoln has anyone done that how does that work?
You can find your local dealers here: evo.audio/where-to-buy/
Will def buy this one
Does it work without a computer? As in, can I monitor synths etc in a hardware only setup?
It isn't really designed to be a standalone unit. In theory, it can be done, but you wouldn't be getting the most out of the EVO 16's features using it in this fashion.
Can I use Evo 16 with asp800? How to connect them right?
Yes, you can use ASP800 with EVO 16. You'd simply connect the ADAT outputs of the ASP800 to the ADAT inputs of the EVO 16. You can then set the clock source of the EVO 16 to Optical in order to keep everything in sync.
I just got evo 8 a week ago man.
The 8 outputs of an EVO16 are the balanced or unbalanced.

All the outputs on the EVO 16 are balanced, but can also handle unbalanced TS connections without issue if required.

How can we use it in tandem with ID44? Any suggestion how to maximize the use of the both device?
On macOS you can use the EVO 16 and the iD44 together as an aggregate device. There isn't an easy way to do this on Windows unfortunately.
@@weareevoaudio oh no , I'm a windows user. If we want to connect it via ADAT, which one should be the main interface ?
You can use either device as the main interface, you'd just have to use the standalone state on the other to route the inputs to the outputs. It isn't really what the iD44 or EVO 16 are designed for however.
How low can you get the latency for guitar amp sims...why are most company's still using usb 1 and 2 and not 3?
The ones using USB 1 are outdated. USB 2 is fine because 480Mbits/s is still way overkill for sound streams. One stream of 16 bit @ 48kHz takes 768kbit/s
if you take 20 of these channels you still have 1536 kbit/s or 1.5 Mbit/s. Its not even scratching the limit. Like me you could be using 96000Hz in 24bit with all the channels, in which case you'll hit the limit somewhere after 200 channels.
So basically we dont need USB 3 for audio. It makes more sense for others things
Is it better or worse than ID 44 mkII
I prefer the sound of this over the audient line
Is there MIDI i/o? If not, what's the best way to connect MIDI?
The EVO 16 doesn't have built-in MIDI I/O I'm afraid as a large majority of modern MIDI devices will connect via USB anyway. You can easily pick up an inexpensive USB MIDI interface from most audio stores for any MIDI devices that use a 5 Pin DIN lead.
no midi in/out :(
But does it have an power button? On/off switch?
You can power the unit down by pressing the main encoder and selecting "Power Down" from the menu.
Connection to older Macs? USB-C to USB A?
You can connect the EVO 16 to a USB-A port using a USB-C to USB-A and it will work completely fine!
When is the release date for the EVO 16?
The EVO 16 is currently shipping to stores worldwide. Contact your local store and they should be able to give you an estimated arrival time.
Hello, can i use Evo 16 as a expander too?
The EVO 16 isn't really designed to be used as an expander so we would recommend using the SP8 instead.
Is phantom power turned on individually or globally?
Phantom Power is switched individually on each channel.
can you bypass the preamps to run external preamps.
Its not possible to bypass the pre-amps but you as the pre-amps are so clean, you can connect a external pre and run it via the line input and get no noticeable colouration or distortion
Do you have one that's rack mountable?
Optional Rack ears can be requested from Audient to allow you to place the EVO 16 in a rack.
@@weareevoaudio thank you so much looking into buying one
Awesome hopefully the price would Be friendly too ❤
EVO 16 is priced at a rather friendly:
£399.99 inc VAT,
€469 inc Local VAT
$499 MAP
@@weareevoaudio WOW awesome
Hello, are the adat ports smux?
Yes, the ADAT ports will support SMUX at 88.2kHz and 96kHZ.
Does it work with Pro Tools and Reason?
Yes, the EVO 16 will work with both of those DAWs
no rack ears?
You can order the optional rack ears for free after registering your unit if you do wish to rack your unit up!
Can we bypass the pres like we can with the ID?
I see the question has been answered already.
What’s the answer
It's not possible to bypass the pre-amps on the EVO 16, however, the pre-amps are clean enough that you can pass an external signal through without noticeable colouration or distortion.
Is it compatible with the MPC ?
We don't officially support the MPC I'm afraid as its not possible to run the EVO mixer app and you therefore loose a lot of functionality.
Great....Can I get it in India?
It will be available in India in the close future, you can find your local dealers here: evo.audio/where-to-buy/
@@weareevoaudio thank you so much for your valuable reply
Little late to the party but I'd be super grateful if someone could let me know if you can get 5.1 surround through Windows with this device. :) Thank you!
You can but the EVO 16 isn't able to control the monitor level of a 5.1 output so you'd need to use some form of external monitor controller
@@weareevoaudio thanks for getting back to me! Hmm... Would you be able to control the output through a given application? Say VLC?
Yeah, that would work if you use the master volume slider on the VLC app.
is it class compliant?
Yes, EVO 16 is Class COmplaint but we recommend using the EVO drivers and software to get the most out of the unit.
@@weareevoaudio Was thinking of using with akai force and it needs to be that. Thanks!
Evo 16 really good but EVO Mixer need some improvement. Routing is so confused, and no double click back to default :(
They totally forgot about midi in and out?
