Francis M i have an iphone 6s plus from 2016 and I still use it now in great condition and still competitive. Not any android device can do that and still be a competitive phone in terms of most aspects. specially the camera

The answer is simple. Apple was losing profit so they raised the prices because they knew 2 things.
1. People thinking they have "The Best" will force them into buying the product wether they have the money or not.

The price of an iphone x with decent storage in canada would be about $1200 or more.

I kno people that were die hard Apple fanboys that finally switched over to Android and got a Samsung Note 9 or S9 bcuz they finally realized apples "premium build" was not better then Samsungs flagship devices ... And the fact the android software is like basically using a computer it's super simple to understand. What held them back for so long was the apple cloud and Apple ecosystem held all there files and photos but there are super easy apps made by Google that help u transfer files from ur Apple cloud to Google drive and such. Apples prices just aren't worth it anymore when Samsung makes better flagship phones.
Also Apple had to catchup to Samsungs huge beautiful screens and they caved in when they started the apple "plus" line with bigger screens to compete. Taking out the headphone jack was a HUGE mistake and Samsung has one more advantage people don't realize is huge... EXPANDABLE Memory, I have a 64gb Note 8 but have a 128gb memory SD card I bought off Amazon for 30 bucks.. If u wanted to upgrade a 64gb iPhone to 20 ude he paying an extra $200 for a bigger hardware space device instead of popping in a cheap memory card from Amazon that saves u the trouble

I've always had samsung phones and i never had regrets about it. I had an S5 which i had for 4 years and it worked very well even until i got my new S10 1 year ago and it has been working amazing since then. No malfunctioning or repairs needed, not sure if it's cheaper than the apple counterpart but the quality of the phone is increadible and most of my friends who have had apple have always had issues with their phones.

For me the main reasons not to buy Apple are:
1) I want to customise all devices that I have
2) I don't want to be locked inside the Apple ecosystem (or eco chamber if you are in a bad mood).
i went from 8 years iphone to note 9, seriously impressed and dont really miss apple, yes apple software is easier to use, but once u get used to andriod and especilly the new one UI by samsung, i really dont miss apple at all, oh and i get 512gb dual sim, dolby atmos (f**ing INSANE) i can download music direct blah blh ablah

Anyone who has used apple products know the quality and robustness or the hardware is usually leagues above anything else (you could quote iPhone 6 as a counter) but in general every product I’ve bought off them has worked very well for way longer than other brands. Software especially Mac OS and IOS is on another level, it remembers your preferences, predicts what you need, and syncs across all devices automatically.
They really do deserve the price, I think they are worth it
It used to be super trendy to have the newest iPhone. Like I used to always upgrade when the newest iPhone came out, now it’s more acceptable to have an older version, then wait for prices to drop before upgrading. I guess maybe because back then we could tell the difference in the phones. Now all the phones just look kind of the same.

One more factor that adds up to cost is the software. The phone OS is made by Apple itself and hence it's not just a Hardware that makes it costlier.

Same here, Galaxy S6 Edge+ from 2015 and still feels like a very fast phone and no need to replace.
My girlfriend's already needed to replace her iPhone 6S because system updates kept making it slower and slower. Apple deliberately keeps putting barely enough RAM in their products and then upping system requirements with every new system update. And forget about sticking to an older system because it doesn't take long before you'll get notifications saying: The version of this app requires at least iOS x.x to run. So what they're actually saying is: upgrade to the latest iOS and live with a slow and unresponsive phone, or buy a new iPhone and you're fine again.

I’m still using the 6s and I’ve never felt the need to upgrade. I just felt like yes Apple products are great, but I see no added value in buying an 11 from my 6s.

@DJ Ness Samsung has various models and options to choose from though. There are several decent mid range models with decent prices. You don't have that option with Apple.

I like Apple products but I don't like paying 1000$ for a phone. Especially when their competitors offer the same (usually even more) bang for your buck in most categories...

The last 3 years they raised prices astronomically without adding any corresponding features or hardware. The fact that they are cracking down on used and refurbished resellers, the fact that they are limiting or banning third party adapters/cables/etc, the fact that they are cracking down on independent and self repair, I am never buying an apple product again. The cool factor, and the dedication quality construction has long left the company.

2019 is the start of Budget smartphone era. You get a high specs phone for a lower price but you have to consider the downgrades like the metal frame to plastic or other things such as display resolution that wasn't that bad though, i have apple but it fell and the screen become CONJURING.
When Steve Jobs was there and when new iphones were released at his time,people had no doubts declaring that iphone is the best phone.But now,actually Iphone has contenders who offer similar to better functions than Apple.Its not about cost cuz actually people have to show off so cost doesn't really matter to people cuz they love to show off.But the standards of apple are falling.It has "competitors".This itself describes the situation.During the time of Steve Jobs,no other phone was even close to Iphone.We need you Jobs.BTW,Steve Jobs was such a genius.When I studied his strategy I was amazed....

I kno people that were die hard Apple fanboys that finally switched over to Android and got a Samsung Note 9 or S9 bcuz they finally realized apples "premium build" was not better then Samsungs flagship devices ... And the fact the android software is like basically using a computer it's super simple to understand. What held them back for so long was the apple cloud and Apple ecosystem held all there files and photos but there are super easy apps made by Google that help u transfer files from ur Apple cloud to Google drive and such. Apples prices just aren't worth it anymore when Samsung makes better flagship phones.
Also Apple had to catchup to Samsungs huge beautiful screens and they caved in when they started the apple "plus" line with bigger screens to compete. Taking out the headphone jack was a HUGE mistake and Samsung has one more advantage people don't realize is huge... EXPANDABLE Memory, I have a 64gb Note 8 but have a 128gb memory SD card I bought off Amazon for 30 bucks.. If u wanted to upgrade a 64gb iPhone to 20 ude he paying an extra $200 for a bigger hardware space device instead of popping in a cheap memory card from Amazon that saves u the trouble
Samsung makes better flagship phones, but unfortunately they support them just slightly longer than their budget phone (if not just as short)
I'll switch if Samsung can show that they can consistently officially support their device for at least 4 years with newer version of Android.

Moejii - i switched from S5 to IPhone 7 and it was the best thing I did , I used S8 in between but hated its software and saturation of pictures taken by it were weird according to me . And talking about prices Samsung phones are as pricy as apple , if not more . You are comparing flagships right ? The S series follows a similar pricing strategy to Apple

Yes, iPod touch is the first Apple product I brought, then iPod Classic, iPod nano, then new iPhone every year. I feel I'm trapped by Apple's eco system. Just can't be bother to change to another, like iCloud, I really can't think of another alternative solution would do the same as iCloud provided.
As of July 2020, some Apple products sold cheaper. They do some SE and cheaper models to compete some midrange phones. They know how to play the game now

@@Jack13853 Personally, I have never seen an Apple device with laggy animations. They always look beautiful. That's not enough to justify the price tag. Quality, durable hardware and bug-free software should be a given, or else they're not worth it.
My 3 year old Lumia has no laggy animations and it was around 100€

I only purchased my iPod because I wanted an mp3 player that could charge while connected to my car stereo. The adaptor I purchased used the iPod's connector for music and charging. I would not get ripped off by Apple as I have a passionate of Apple products.
I think they're charging more to invest in the future research costs or invocations work they're working on
