Its so elegant,i know people who would pay too much for such a piece sold by brand names....congrats christina for your beautiful and classy taste.your work is worth a lot.i also love that no matter how experienced you are know, you still explain everytging you do for us....
Hi Christina this is Mary Pace I haven’t written in a while for many reasons. I was watching your video on my TV today the one that showed your 10 favorite makeovers. This table was one of them. I have a question about the white wash on the top and the shelf. I did an old Jacobian buffet. I stripped the top all the way down to bear wood. It had the most beautiful grain that I’ve ever seen. I felt it was such a shame to cover it up with paint, so I decided to do a white wash. I used Dixie Belle‘s warm white. I watered it down half-and-half and I used a lot of water when I was wiping it back because I really wanted that grain to come through. Then I finish the piece. And after it was complete and dried for a few days my heart sank and I started to cry I could not believe what I was seeing. There was about five orange spots on the top of the buffet. I put a lot of work into this Buffet but mostly a lot of love. So when I saw the bleedthrough it broke my heart. And I did not know what to do. I knew I needed to use shellac so I sprayed the top with two or three coats of shellac. I sanded it down and then I added another very late then coat of my white paint added water and wiped it back but it just didn’t look good. So I bit the bullet and I sanded it down enough to grip paint and painted it completely with Dixie Belle’s white sands silk paint. I think about three or four coats. I’m sorry that I had to go around the corner to cross the street “ as my mother would say” before I asked you my question! Lol. My question is when you have a piece that is a bleeder and you want to white wash the top, what can you put on the top that is clear so when you put the wash on the grain will show through? You can go to my Facebook marketplace page “Painted up Fancy by Mary Pace” and see the finished piece.
What a fabulous piece! I think you should keep it (I know, you didn't ask my opinion, but there it is). I also like how you decided to keep some of the old varnish on that bottom shelf. You're right! It did add some character to the piece. I'm one of those who is trying to let go of "perfection" and to embrace "character" in my life. I spent way too much time being fretting over the so called imperfections I see. I also would like to know how you knew the veneer was too thin? I enjoy learning from you.
And by the way, you should keep it! It is very inviting. I keep thinking you must live at the beach because everything you do has such a relaxed vibe with all those soft beachy neutrals.
Thank you for your detailed makeover. I want to do my kitchen table and I feel confident enough with your tips I will nail it. Not a fan of jolie color but Im going check out their other colors for more inspiration. Thank u
I really enjoy watching your videos-you’re a great teacher and even though I normally like plain, unpainted pieces of furniture, I’m really beginning to like the paint, especially they way you do it. Question: about how long does it take you to do a piece? Like this one, for instance - if you start working on it first thing in the morning, is it done by night or does all the drying time between coats make it go over several days? Thanks for al the great information!
I'm super curious about your sander. Im a Festool Fan. I see you have their dust extractor. So i'm curious why you chose the sander you have over theirs? I've had my eye on theirs for a while and it's going to be my next tool purchase. I like what I see when you use yours. I do furniture refinishing as well as building. A new sander moved up on my list as I've been having some tendinitis in my elbow and because i need better dust collection for my sander. So something light weight, good for furniture and building, good dust collection, and able to do contoured edges easily.
it's so pretty! Did you switch and use your festool on the top or bottom? it seems like it would go so much faster on the top, but yes, blow through veneer, too. I cant decide on a sander. I'm leaning towards the surf prep then just use stripper on super thick jobs that the festool would grind through quickly. thanks for another great video!
Yes, keep it! It's gorgeous! I need to move closer to you and take lessons. 😂 I would also gladly pay to take online courses with you. Hint, hint. 😁 ❤🤗
I have an oak sofa table that I want to do exactly this on. I want to do it in a light shade of blue but I don’t know if I should stick to neutral color. Hers is gorgeous. 💕
Dang girl! You should keep it. It’s perfect at your front door.
I bought all the things from Target thinking I would take them back. 😬 Now I want to keep it all. 🤣
Amazing how small changes can alter the look of any piece - those drawer handles look gorgeous in this console!
"Hand lotion for wood"! Perfect way to see it. Really helps me picture when and how to use wax.😊
I loved the natural wood on the entry table before then paint
Very impressed with your talent to envision the paint-color schemes on your furniture pieces!!
Love the monochromatic theme, the wash on top looks amazing. Looking forward to do something similar with my dresser.

2 thumbs up on this project...the top really hit it out of the park...
Beautiful!!!
So simple but soooo stunning
Cute piece that color wash looks awesome! Went from 90's drab to Boho-Coastal well done! Jolie Finishing Wax is my only top Coat I love It!
I think this is my favourite piece of yours ever!! Totally going to use this as inspiration for a coffee table in our living room.
And by the way, you should keep it! It is very inviting. I keep thinking you must live at the beach because everything you do has such a relaxed vibe with all those soft beachy neutrals.
This paint color is so perfect for this cute table. I really like it!
Very nice work. I like the Jolie paint and brushes.
Beautiful !! Love the paint wash. Thanks !!
SO gorgeous! Great choice of color for that piece!
I’m loving the monochromatic schemes! Well done!
What a great remodel. The top is my favorite part, too! I bought the Jolie wax because of your video!
Very pretty!
Great job and idea.
Very nice. So glad thrift season is almost here.
The paint seals the wood so the wax isn’t really acting like a hand lotion. I like bees wax myself.
Stellar ..... looks perfect in your entrance way

This felt like an infomercial for Jolie that you would see on the Home Shopping Network. I hope you are sponsored by them.
She said so in the beginning of the video.
Great makeover. Keep the table!
Well done!
Wonderful as usual! Thank you for sharing 🌻
