This is the most honest video I've ever seen from a UA-cam creator, it touched my heart because I'm like you a mom who is trying to get a second income out of her talent and I tried selling furniture as a side hussle because I'm creative, I enjoy it and I wanted to save money by buying old furniture and flip it and keep it for my own use then when I was getting bored I would sell it
Another thing you could do is auction or raffle something off and have the money go to charity or a go fund me or someone you know in need. For example, there are so many people out there who need help with a deposit so they can obtain housing. There are tons of families with food insecurity. Imagine being able to gift them a subscription to a healthy meal service.
Can I just say what a decent human being you are? I've watched a bunch of your shorts and I see so many nasty comments, it's crazy. I can't believe how rude people can be sometimes. When I see those I always look to see how you respond, and you respond with grace, dignity, and class. I never see you snap back at anyone. I would imagine after reading so many snide remarks it would have to play on your psyche at least a bit. Anyway, that, combined with your passion for helping those less fortunate and the love and time you show to your children, I would say the world needs more people like you in it. Also, the fact that you're willing to share the secrets to your success also speaks volumes about your character. I wish you continued success in whatever you decide to do in the future. Thank you for sharing your gift with us and for spreading some light in this dark world.
I love this! I’m a sahm too and started flipping when my husband was deployed in 2021 and after my children were asleep. I was flipping maybe three or four pieces a month and bringing in about $1200 every month. I was so proud of myself. But I stopped flipping after finding out that I was pregnant last year and now we have 3 kids and I think that it’ll be a while before I start again. But it was so fun and I was so proud of myself. You and DIY Wife really helped me get through deployment and life these past few years. Thank you for your work!

You have been such a calm reassurance for me in my painting journey. I have done an armoire, 3 chest of drawers, mirror, two huge wall pieces, two dining tables, 2 desks. My home is much more colorful and I needed no new furniture. Next is my king size sleigh headboard and rails. Once I started I could not stop. I still work as a nurse full time but needed this hobby for my mental health. It has worked. I think you may have been the first video I ever watched…the rest is history. Thank you so much Christina!
I am pretty sure you are one of the first furniture flippers I ever watched... along with Kacha and The Reclaimed Heirloom. I have painted lots of furniture and sold it but I don't feel like I have come even close to an expert flipper. Every piece is literally a new adventure with fingers crossed!! I'm a flower farmer and I have yet to see a farmer who is making profit without creating content. They clearly get tired of creating content though, obviously it's a ton of work
Very few people seem to understand the time and work that goes into refurbishing furniture. Not to mention the high cost of paints and other supplies. Tough racket if you are looking to get a fair price.

I haven't had a job outside my home for over 12 years now. I have always just dabbled in crafty stuff and selling it so I've refinished things in the past but didn't really start until about a year ago. I am still so new to creating videos after a year, there is just so much to learn and being a single mom with no job has been so hard to balance everything. I has been a slow process for me. I hope I can start earning an income from UA-cam soon. I love hearing how others have started, I find it so inspirational and pushes me to continue. Thank you!

I am a 70 year old disabled retired RN. My calling has always been creative ventures whether fine art paintings, sewing, fashion design, interior design, crocheting, and now flipping furniture. I have over the years sold my crafts as a side business, but furniture is my new thing. Being retired it is nice to have that side income to make ends meet. Selling has been difficult but my pieces are moving in the long run and I am not giving up because I believe my talent speaks for itself. My problem is storage space to keep unsold items stored. It keeps me from taking in new pieces that I find very cheap on Marketplace. I also have a partner that has been less than encouraging with my work to the point that I only work on them when he is not home. I really wish he would acknowledge my talent and stop the criticism.
That is pretty much the definition of someone who isn't a good partner match for you. Healthy relationships support one another and are cheerleaders for their passions.
Christina, you're a beautiful momma inside and out! What you said about taking the furniture back to the thrift store to help out others in need literally put tears in my eyes. One doesn't have to flip furniture, I used to sell vintage items and vintage jewelry lots on eBay, but then life got crazy with grandchildren, so I stopped. But now things are not as crazy, I had quite a few pieces of jewelry that were broken, missing beads, and such. Now I make jewelry with those beads mostly crystal and glass, and I donate them to a charity shop that helps people pay their hospital bills. So far I have donated 50 pieces, last time I went there, there were only a few pieces left. So even small items can help. Find what you are good at, usually, those are the things that give you joy.
I am so happy you have found the spot you need to be in right now. I have never flipped to make money and have always gifted my pieces. Your words are coming from experience and are very heart felt. I will always follow you because your darn good at what you do!
Love this video. I do this like you, because I love it and then I just give it away. It's become an expensive hobby because I don't get reimbursed for any of the paint I use or supplies to fix areas that are broken, but it keeps me off the streets at night 😅

Thanks for posting this. It's so encouraging. Especially when you say the content you post years ago is making money while you sleep. It makes me want to put the best in every video even if it's not getting instant popularity. I don't flip furniture but I have had my old brown bedroom set since 2005 that has never made a sound! I'm currently into modern contemporary style but, to part with my perfectly good set is a no; even if a company wants to gift me a new set. I'll be following your steps to paint them over. Christina ❤ I watched your video this morning and was so inspired. You are one of those women that speak for so many people who stay home with their kids and gave up an income , which is a huge sacrifice btw, but well worth it! Your story is quite like mine so your video really touched home for me. While I was home with MY kids, I also liked to make things. Sewing projects, photo projects. I also worked some side jobs in between raising my kids and managing my home. I look back and it was exhausting! I wondered how I did it all. Fast forward to today and truly it feels like in a blink of the eyes, I’m 55, my 3 kids are grown up, I went through breast cancer when we all went into Covid lock-down, and I haven’t been back to work yet because I don’t want to go back to being an educational assistant. I’m too tired for it and don’t think my body could handle the stress. I’d like to keep that low since the cancer…holy!! Hearing you tell your story has inspired me to keep looking for what makes me happy which is what all of my doctors have stressed to me right now. I like helping people but also being creative. I’ve always loved refinishing my own furniture. I am too tired to even think about doing it full time to flip though. I’d thought about it. I really need to find a way to get started on something that can give me a real sustainable income since I’m on my own now as well. Please make more videos on your journey. @@gmaw23beauties37 Hi 😊 I did apply for disability but was rejected because although my “illness” was severe, it was not prolonged enough…so if I was terminal I may have to qualified. I did appeal their decision but was again rejected. Cancer hurts in so many ways that you know already.

It was because of you I decided to flip furniture after I retired from teaching. You are a great inspiration Christina and I managed to sell every piece on FBM. Things have slowed down now since the cost of living crisis but I still enjoy doing it and it keeps me busy. I can relate to your story. My mother was a stay at home mom but could do so many things. She turned some skills into a business. My sisters and I learned by watching. We all had skills. My problem was and still is that I did it as a hobby and gave away so much free. I am 71 yrs young and now retired. I have just refinished a dining room set, coffee table, and repurposed a lamp table as a vanity( all found on 2 garbage pickup days), for my granddaughter who just moved into a new home. She watched me do things and likes old turned into new. Wish I saw this video years ago because you are an inspiration.
***Not that giving things away free was a problem. I just meant I wasn't really into it for business. And like you my mother gave part of her business to the sick and shut-in.
Dear Christina, I think you were one of the first flippers from whom I learnt many things. I eventually embarked on the daunting task of flipping our complete dining room: table, cabinets, chairs etc. I then moved on to the living room. Long story short, we some guests recently who were pleasantly surprised by the complete makeover. Thank you for teaching me and explaining every step so clearly that even a beginner, such as myself, could make these transformations. 🙏

Thank you so much. I need all the tips I can get! I just started my journey and even retired from my job of 18 years so that I could devote more time to redoing furniture. I’m not really concentrating in making money yet. I’m just trying to equip myself with the tools that are needed in order to do a good job. Like you, for right now I have been redoing my own furniture and doing some for family and friends just to get the experience. Great story, loved listening to your journey of how you started your business. I discovered your channel during lockdown when I wanted to see if I could redo my yellow oak bannister. I was hooked after that and am now following several UA-cam channels, mostly furniture flipping. I haven’t attempted the bannister yet but I have made over some furniture pieces for us. I have a couple on the go right now. I really like the idea of making over a piece from a thrift store and giving back to them to sell or give away to a person in need. I don’t need to make a business out of it and I am not going to start up making videos for UA-cam but I like learning how it works and how someone can make a living from producing interesting content. 💖

I am retired from teaching , and have time to do as I please. Your journey has helped me see that I can calm down and simply be at ease while I enjoy creating. I tend to be type A personality. Glad you are upfront about this. I picked up right away that the content creators that teach and show furniture flipping are makifn koneh with sponsorships and content creation NOT furniture flipping. I just started- it’s a lot of work. I am doing it to raise extra money and bonus- self fund the hobby
This was soooo helpful. I started flipping (and selling) just over a year ago. And I was going to film everything for UA-cam. Then I realized I really needed to focus on learning what I was doing. So I put the camera away. I still took all the before and after shots and posted them on Instagram and sold on Facebook marketplace. But I can't stop thinking about making UA-cam videos. This just sealed the deal for me. Obviously it won't take off overnight. But I feel like it should definitely be a part of my furniture story. Thanks for all the inspiration.
@@Heyu7her3 its a battle. At first I would build the haggle into the price. I realized people think of marketplace like a garage sale. So I would already have my bottom price in mind. But then I realized my pieces were worth the price I was asking (a new dresser at IKEA is $300 and I am creating a one of a kind piece). Sometimes you need to wait and know the right buyer will come along and the haggling buyer isn't the right person for your piece. Good luck. Hang in there.

This video was so "real" and I can really relate. I have made-over a few pieces for myself and, as you said, to save pieces from the trash. Occasionally I think about making content, but I know there is a learning curve and additional time involved. I think you have your priorities straight and have reaped the reward!
I found You about 3 years ago, when I started refinishing furniture. I’m a retired, widow and I put my furniture $$ away in order to do some Traveling that I wouldn’t otherwise be able to do. You can see why it’s difficult for those who have become the victim of UA-cams cancel culture where there channels have been shut down for producing content that really has views with a different political slant ..ie conservative / Christian voices than what UA-cam will allow to be displayed. So furniture is pretty safe content .. and I guess most DIY is pretty safe content for all political groups as we all can enjoy making old furniture beautiful again. Love that you followed your passion and developed your vision and that it has led to a new career in content creation/development. As I said to another furniture flipper once … when we cast our bread on the water … who knows which piece of bread will be the one to bless us with a good return for our labours . Congratulations Christina I’ve watched since 2021 off and on through these kind of videos I’ve learned a lot … Sunday I just finished my first prehung door … it was going to be simple slab door switch but jam as a mess so .. got my furniture flipping tools out .. took out door jam and watched 5 UA-cam videos … it came out pretty awesome to my shock … it works perfect and is all level… now I’ve bought 6 more pre-hung doors and will do the whole house interior. It’s people like you that makes these achievements possible by sharing your content and tips … for now I’m still learning maybe content one day but seeing your progression is also very inspiring … so bless you and thank you .

I ran my furniture business for about 7 years full time. I made an ok income, but came to the realization that it’s far more about sales and marketing than the makeover. I did it, learned a lot, but my wrists and shoulders were wearing down. Now, I just do it for me. Or to fund any extras I want. But I’m so glad for the experience, and, like you, will unlikely buy much new. Older stuff tends to be better made, better quality. Glad to watch this video, and learn your story. :)
Great video and so informative. You are incredibly open about how you earn a living, and so honest and realistic. In my former life (72 years old now) I had my own business and stayed home with our daughter and earned a living doing what I loved. And my husband loved my business and was proud of the fact I did it. And what a role model for your kids. You just totally rocked this!

I used to sell painted furniture. I loved the painting but not the sales - especially when peoPle tried to bargain with me. I can't do that well. When I was selling furniture, it was new furniture, hand painted and designed by me. By the time I was done selling it, I made nothing. I made my money on giving lessons (this was before youtube). I love watching your videos. I love the idea of taking something old and making it new. It starts out as a hobby. You have to like the actual procees. Its wonderful that yoh are donating your pieces. This is the most honest video I've ever seen from a UA-cam creator, it touched my heart because I'm like you a mom who is trying to get a second income out of her talent and I tried selling furniture as a side hussle because I'm creative, I enjoy it and I wanted to save money by buying old furniture and flip it and keep it for my own use then when I was getting bored I would sell it
Another thing you could do is auction or raffle something off and have the money go to charity or a go fund me or someone you know in need. For example, there are so many people out there who need help with a deposit so they can obtain housing. There are tons of families with food insecurity. Imagine being able to gift them a subscription to a healthy meal service.

Can I just say what a decent human being you are? I've watched a bunch of your shorts and I see so many nasty comments, it's crazy. I can't believe how rude people can be sometimes. When I see those I always look to see how you respond, and you respond with grace, dignity, and class. I never see you snap back at anyone. I would imagine after reading so many snide remarks it would have to play on your psyche at least a bit. Anyway, that, combined with your passion for helping those less fortunate and the love and time you show to your children, I would say the world needs more people like you in it. I love this! I’m a sahm too and started flipping when my husband was deployed in 2021 and after my children were asleep. I was flipping maybe three or four pieces a month and bringing in about $1200 every month. I was so proud of myself. But I stopped flipping after finding out that I was pregnant last year and now we have 3 kids and I think that it’ll be a while before I start again. But it was so fun and I was so proud of myself. You and DIY Wife really helped me get through deployment and life these past few years. Thank you for your work!

You have been such a calm reassurance for me in my painting journey. I have done an armoire, 3 chest of drawers, mirror, two huge wall pieces, two dining tables, 2 desks. My home is much more colorful and I needed no new furniture. Next is my king size sleigh headboard and rails. Once I started I could not stop. I am pretty sure you are one of the first furniture flippers I ever watched... along with Kacha and The Reclaimed Heirloom. I have painted lots of furniture and sold it but I don't feel like I have come even close to an expert flipper. Every piece is literally a new adventure with fingers crossed!! Very few people seem to understand the time and work that goes into refurbishing furniture. Not to mention the high cost of paints and other supplies. Tough racket if you are looking to get a fair price.

I haven't had a job outside my home for over 12 years now. I have always just dabbled in crafty stuff and selling it so I've refinished things in the past but didn't really start until about a year ago. I am still so new to creating videos after a year, there is just so much to learn and being a single mom with no job has been so hard to balance everything. I has been a slow process for me. I am a 70 year old disabled retired RN. My calling has always been creative ventures whether fine art paintings, sewing, fashion design, interior design, crocheting, and now flipping furniture. I have over the years sold my crafts as a side business, but furniture is my new thing. Being retired it is nice to have that side income to make ends meet. Selling has been difficult but my pieces are moving in the long run and I am not giving up because I believe my talent speaks for itself. My problem is storage space to keep unsold items stored. It keeps me from taking in new pieces that I find very cheap on Marketplace. I also have a partner that has been less than encouraging with my work to the point that I only work on them when he is not home. I really wish he would acknowledge my talent and stop the criticism.
That is pretty much the definition of someone who isn't a good partner match for you. Healthy relationships support one another and are cheerleaders for their passions.
Getting rid of the partner will make more room for furniture😂

One doesn't have to flip furniture, I used to sell vintage items and vintage jewelry lots on eBay, but then life got crazy with grandchildren, so I stopped. But now things are not as crazy, I had quite a few pieces of jewelry that were broken, missing beads, and such. Now I make jewelry with those beads mostly crystal and glass, and I donate them to a charity shop that helps people pay their hospital bills. So far I have donated 50 pieces, last time I went there, there were only a few pieces left. So even small items can help. Find what you are good at, usually, those are the things that give you joy.
I am so happy you have found the spot you need to be in right now. I have never flipped to make money and have always gifted my pieces. Your words are coming from experience and are very heart felt. I will always follow you because your darn good at what you do!

Love this video. I do this like you, because I love it and then I just give it away. It's become an expensive hobby because I don't get reimbursed for any of the paint I use or supplies to fix areas that are broken, but it keeps me off the streets at night 😅

Christina ❤ I watched your video this morning and was so inspired. You are one of those women that speak for so many people who stay home with their kids and gave up an income , which is a huge sacrifice btw, but well worth it! Your story is quite like mine so your video really touched home for me.
While I was home with MY kids, I also liked to make things. Sewing projects, photo projects. I also worked some side jobs in between raising my kids and managing my home. I look back and it was exhausting! I wondered how I did it all. Fast forward to today and truly it feels like in a blink of the eyes, I’m 55, my 3 kids are grown up, I went through breast cancer when we all went into Covid lock-down, and I haven’t been back to work yet because I don’t want to go back to being an educational assistant. I’m too tired for it and don’t think my body could handle the stress. I’d like to keep that low since the cancer…holy!! Hearing you tell your story has inspired me to keep looking for what makes me happy which is what all of my doctors have stressed to me right now. I like helping people but also being creative. I’ve always loved refinishing my own furniture. I am too tired to even think about doing it full time to flip though. I’d thought about it. I really need to find a way to get started on something that can give me a real sustainable income since I’m on my own now as well.
Please make more videos on your journey. You will speak to so many who will listen. You are providing guidance to those of us who need to hear.

I can relate to your story. My mother was a stay at home mom but could do so many things. She turned some skills into a business. My sisters and I learned by watching. We all had skills. My problem was and still is that I did it as a hobby and gave away so much free. I am 71 yrs young and now retired. I have just refinished a dining room set, coffee table, and repurposed a lamp table as a vanity( all found on 2 garbage pickup days), for my granddaughter who just moved into a new home. She watched me do things and likes old turned into new. Wish I saw this video years ago because you are an inspiration.
***Not that giving things away free was a problem. I just meant I wasn't really into it for business. And like you my mother gave part of her business to the sick and shut-in.
Dear Christina, I think you were one of the first flippers from whom I learnt many things. I eventually embarked on the daunting task of flipping our complete dining room: table, cabinets, chairs etc. I then moved on to the living room. Long story short, we some guests recently who were pleasantly surprised by the complete makeover. Great story, loved listening to your journey of how you started your business. I discovered your channel during lockdown when I wanted to see if I could redo my yellow oak bannister. I was hooked after that and am now following several UA-cam channels, mostly furniture flipping. I haven’t attempted the bannister yet but I have made over some furniture pieces for us. I have a couple on the go right now. I really like the idea of making over a piece from a thrift store and giving back to them to sell or give away to a person in need. I don’t need to make a business out of it and I am not going to start up making videos for UA-cam but I like learning how it works and how someone can make a living from producing interesting content. 💖

Hi Cristina, I've learned a lot from you and we are starting to do renovations on our home and I think all that I have learned is helping me make decisions and chose colors and furniture. I would much rather buy second hand furniture than new because I can shape it to my taste.

Very helpful sharing, as I am gearing up to increase my knowledge, desire, and talent to indulge myself in my enjoyment of flipping furniture. I am retired from teaching , and have time to do as I please. Your journey has helped me see that I can calm down and simply be at ease while I enjoy creating. I tend to be type A personality. Your path teaches me that I can stay in present time, love being present, and realize that “now” is really all that any of us have. This helps me acknowledge that it is wonderful to be 71 years old, attempting to take my time being calm and relaxed. No hurry! Been with you watching for a few years. Your flips were always so good. I'm so happy you found your place here. I just saw your subscribers are at almost 500k!!! You and a handful of other furniture flippers really became the standard of flipping on UA-cam. It was so inspiring to watch.
Glad you are upfront about this. I picked up right away that the content creators that teach and show furniture flipping are makifn koneh with sponsorships and content creation NOT furniture flipping.

This was soooo helpful. I started flipping (and selling) just over a year ago. And I was going to film everything for UA-cam. Then I realized I really needed to focus on learning what I was doing. So I put the camera away. I still took all the before and after shots and posted them on Instagram and sold on Facebook marketplace. But I can't stop thinking about making UA-cam videos. This just sealed the deal for me. Obviously it won't take off overnight. But I feel like it should definitely be a part of my furniture story. Thanks for all the inspiration.
How do you even make money off Facebook Marketplace? Everyone is always trying to negotiate down
@@Heyu7her3 its a battle. At first I would build the haggle into the price. I realized people think of marketplace like a garage sale. So I would already have my bottom price in mind. But then I realized my pieces were worth the price I was asking (a new dresser at IKEA is $300 and I am creating a one of a kind piece). Sometimes you need to wait and know the right buyer will come along and the haggling buyer isn't the right person for your piece. Good luck. Hang in there.

I have several inherited pieces of furniture that I would love to makeover and that is what brought me to your channel. I do want to try it. I have been watching the videos you have for beginners especially the ones with the Beyond Paint (?) product. This video was so "real" and I can really relate. I have made-over a few pieces for myself and, as you said, to save pieces from the trash. Occasionally I think about making content, but I know there is a learning curve and additional time involved. I think you have your priorities straight and have reaped the reward!
I found You about 3 years ago, when I started refinishing furniture. I’m a retired, widow and I put my furniture $$ away in order to do some Traveling that I wouldn’t otherwise be able to do. I Always look forward to your videos on UTube!

i’m exactly where you where a few years ago, a stay home mom with two boys and i’m just starting out with furniture flips as an extra income and i don’t have more needs to start right away but im slowly getting better thanks for your advice and this video has inspired to try to keep going

This is the first video of yours that I've watched but it was one of the most honest and refreshing videos I've ever watched on UA-cam. Especially loved when you spoke about using your furniture flips to help your local lower income community through donating them back to your favorite thrift store for resale. Awesome!
This is a great avenue for coaching on content videos 😊 Really useful to get an idea of income for content. You can see why it’s difficult for those who have become the victim of UA-cams cancel culture where there channels have been shut down for producing content that really has views with a different political slant ..ie conservative / Christian voices than what UA-cam will allow to be displayed. So furniture is pretty safe content .. and I guess most DIY is pretty safe content for all political groups as we all can enjoy making old furniture beautiful again.
Love that you followed your passion and developed your vision and that it has led to a new career in content creation/development. As I said to another furniture flipper once … when we cast our bread on the water … who knows which piece of bread will be the one to bless us with a good return for our labours . Congratulations Christina I’ve watched since 2021 off and on through these kind of videos I’ve learned a lot … Sunday I just finished my first prehung door … it was going to be simple slab door switch but jam as a mess so .. got my furniture flipping tools out .. took out door jam and watched 5 UA-cam videos … it came out pretty awesome to my shock … it works perfect and is all level… now I’ve bought 6 more pre-hung doors and will do the whole house interior. It’s people like you that makes these achievements possible by sharing your content and tips … for now I’m still learning maybe content one day but seeing your progression is also very inspiring … so bless you and thank you .

I ran my furniture business for about 7 years full time. I made an ok income, but came to the realization that it’s far more about sales and marketing than the makeover. I did it, learned a lot, but my wrists and shoulders were wearing down. Now, I just do it for me. Or to fund any extras I want. But I’m so glad for the experience, and, like you, will unlikely buy much new. Older stuff tends to be better made, better quality. Glad to watch this video, and learn your story. :)

Great video and so informative. You are incredibly open about how you earn a living, and so honest and realistic. In my former life (72 years old now) I had my own business and stayed home with our daughter and earned a living doing what I loved. And my husband loved my business and was proud of the fact I did it. And what a role model for your kids. You just totally rocked this!

I am retired and probably won’t buy new furniture again either. I have many pieces from my mom’s house that I planned to work on in between all the quilts that I quilt on my new long arm quilting machine. Retirement is awesome. I used to sell painted furniture. I loved the painting but not the sales - especially when peoPle tried to bargain with me. I can't do that well. When I was selling furniture, it was new furniture, hand painted and designed by me. By the time I was done selling it, I made nothing. I made my money on giving lessons (this was before youtube). I love watching your videos. I love the idea of taking something old and making it new. It starts out as a hobby. You have to like the actual procees. Its wonderful that yoh are donating your pieces.
