M3P owner here... And Yessir!!! I'll be eventually "adding/upgrading" the M4P to my photography/videography line up... I also thought that BOTH drones can take pictures in 12 or 24 megapixels? But I've researched that there really wasn't much of a noticeable difference ... But I definitely WANT that Mini 4 Pro... probably for my BDay in February 2024... You make good points, but I don't agree... Just having that 360 obstacle avoidance will have a pilot feel more comfortable getting to his/her photo destination...and I'm curious if "Night Mode" works for photos as well as videos? I generally shoot at 4K/24fps and take stills from that select video for pictures...BTW, I'll be keeping both drones .#Salute #SafeFlying

I upgraded from the Mini 2 I bought a year ago to the Mini 4 Pro. The Mini 4 Pro was literally one dollar more than the Mini 3 Pro with the Fly More+ Combos. As a photographer, I totally agree with your outlook. But still yet, just a few things to notice:
    1. Yes, the Mini 4 Pro is equipped with the same sensor size, (fixed) aperture, and resolution as the Mini 3 Pro. But either hardware and/or software improvements allow the Mini 4 Pro to produce exposures with superior dynamic range. This was, and still is, the Mini 3 Pro most annoying weakness. Having said that, this is also quite easily tackled by utilizing AEB. The same goes with respect to the night shot feature that the Mini 4 Pro has and the Mini 3 Pro lacks.
    2. Even with such small sensors and limited resolution, it is still possible to produce high-resolution frames that could easily be printed. This is done by taking the shot using Panorama and/or Vertorama framing. Sure, this will require more work on post, but when you're a photographer, this is just a normal part of your work.
I share the same conclusion: for photography, the Mini 4 Pro offers a minor upgrade from the Mini 3 Pro. Myself, I have no plans on making the switch.

The image processing platform has obviously been upgraded. I don't have tech data regarding the true dynamic range for the drones, and it could be implemented via HDR, but even to the naked eye, the Mini 4 Pro clearly delivers better dynamic range than the Mini 3 / Mini 3 Pro.

Hey dude I can appreciate what you have to say but here is my story. I recently bought the mini 3 pro and I totally loved it, so let me get the integra goggles and MC2. They were fun but nothing like FPV with an avata and MC1 which I got last year. The avata is smaller, bounces off of stuff, made to crash so the experience doesn’t even compare. The mini 3pro ,even though small, is still limited by its larger size to be a not so decent FPV drone. So a week later DJI releases the mini 4 pro and I’m still within the return period for my new toys. Off they go and my new mini 4pro comes in blows the mini 3 away beyond my expectations. So many great new features, hardly minor. I am more into video so I can’t answer from a “ just photos” perspective. I say this with no disrespect. I’m not missing the goggles since I’m having so much fun without them ,especially the new active track. I do think at some point there will be a firmware update as opposed to newer goggles. I’ll decide then.

In terms of the motion controller and goggles, DJI did just release an update to allow the Air 3 to use them and I suspect they will eventually allow for Goggle 2, Integra and motion controller 2 to be compatible with M4P. I've been using the M3PRO for 6-7 months now and I love it. Some concern I have with is i lack of side sensors. This is problematic when you track parallel. When it comes to photos there is quite a difference. Even though the sensor is the same, I believe the processor on the new drone is more capable. I got my M4PRO today and have spent the whole day taking phots and videos, including panoramas. I see an immediate difference in the dynamic range. The 4 has not problem displaying white clouds and dark ground all properly exposed. This was NOT the case for the M3PRO, exposing for the clouds and the ground would be very dark, exposing for the ground and the clouds would burnt out. I saw the difference immediately on the panorama shots, they look fantastic. The resolution is the same but the picture look way better. It is like the iPhone, it has been using 12 MP for many generations, but each iteration of the phone got better pictures, mostly due to computational photography and this is what is happening on the M4PRO also, significantly more power on the processor enables you to do a lot more processing in the drone and hence create better photos.

I do have an important question which I have not seen discussed as what best setting (Brake or By Pass) to use in Obstacle Avoidance Action when you lose connection & the drone is return home automatically . For example, if my RTH height is set to 200ft, then i lose connection behind a 250ft high building, and my setting is Brake in Obstacle Avoidance Action, my assumption is that my drone will just hover at 200ft behind the bldg and the drone will never return back home. If my setting is set to By Pass in Obstacle Avoidance Action instead, will my drone fly around the bldg at 200ft until it sees or makes connection with my RC? Can you please comment on this so I know what setting to use in Obstacle Avoidance Action when I lose connection. Not sure if someone has already tested this but i appreciate your comment on my question. Thanks so much.

Where are they going to recoup that weight? Same place they ALREADY clawed back a few grams. The battery. So, a few minutes flight time, not the end of the world right? I had the mini 2 and made it to over 5 kilometres from glass house lookout to mount Tibrogargan on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. I’ve seen how the mini 3 has a problem with distance. So if I were to get another mini it would definitely be the mini 4. I presently have the AVATA, and love the ability to go manual, but without the stabilisation of the mini series it’s often that I get photos that are sideways twisted, and that’s unfortunately not great for photography. Hopefully I will be able to get the mini 4 soon, although I’m not liking my chance at the moment.

And the sneaky little move DJ I did with the ND filters by changing a little notch so they Are not compatible.

"Let me know what you think"
I think you didn't do enough research.
While the sensor size is the same between the 3 and the 4, the 4 DOES take slightly better photos with more DR than the 3. The H(ome) icon is a nice touch when flying. Extended range with the new antennas in the RC2 ( I am Canadian and am able to legally fly beyond VLOS). Is it worth upgrading for full price? Probably not, but you downplay it a bit hard.

There’s always an add on in the tech world - the camera industry , the car industry , the phone industry , the motorcycle world and more . So the question is , what’s your need dnd preference ? Go for it .

I’m just wondering, the air2s is $1029 for fly more combo & it can shoot true 20mp photos, has 5.4k 10 bit DLog, bigger drone but compact, has all intelligent flight modes (hyperlapse, tracking, pano, etc) while the mini 4 pro is about $1000 with dji rc 2. Mini 2 to 3 pro is a true upgrade, 3 pro to 4 pro is more like 3.5 as most are firmware updates

      Wow 😲
      That is a harsh comparison!
360 optical avoidance is a thing
      04 is a thing
      360 Tracking is a thing
      Waypoints is a thing
      Portability is the thing
Controller with built-in screen is a thing
Put all those things together and it's worth something!
Take away software and you'll see people complain like there's no tomorrow! Look at the Mini 2 without the hyperlapse and the waypoint and master shots and all the other software features!
      Software is the big thing!
Lastly, more battery life is a thing too!
It all depends on how you look at it!
      Thanks for chiming in!

I showed them my part 107 certificate, my LAANC approval for the airspace, my drone registered with the FAA, and then they showed me a posted sign saying no drones permitted in the park. They told me I had to apply for a permit if I want to fly there. They were very nice and understood that I had all the right qualifications and even thanked me for following the rules but I also had to respect that they have the right to restrict taking off and landing in the park.

I have a M3P totally satisfied with what I take Mainly Real Estate photo/video. I am one of those that always want the latest tech even if I don't use it, I just like to know I have it. I don't use probably 80% of what's on the M3P so going to the M4P is no real gain for me. As I usually fly at height and not likely to crash sideways. That said, if you have the money to burn, go for it. If you don't have a M3P, go for it, but to spend over 1200 euros for a little extra (not to mention I don't fly it that often) is just not worth it for ME! perhaps in a years time I will see what DJI have come up with and decide then, but right now my M3P rocks in every aspect.
Thanks for taking the time to be realistic. A year ago all the UA-camrs were singing the M3P praises now ????

Point 2 - we are moving to O4. There's no time like the present to begin. Air 2S was the first O3 drone, Air 3 first O4. Same as the jump was to O3/O3+ from Smart Controller. They cheated only once creating a hobbled Air 2S setup on the O2 Smart Controller, and it was pretty terrible - that recommendation you made for that Short-Lived RC Pro/Air 2S Combo was one of your timely, best calls ever! I recently grabbed that combo used on MPB, they thought it was a Smart Controller RM500 (Not the RM510 - that it WAS) $850 RC Pro Fly More with a handful of Battery Cycles and yes, they were 3750mAh, not 3500 Air 2 ones) Why was I buying an Air 2S, you ask? For my Insta 360 Sphere. I may sell it at some point, but its fun stuff.
