    Updates and Corrections Last updated: 9/27/2023:
    -The RC 2 can indeed record audio through the use of the single USB C port . I've tried it, and it works the same as on the previous model with the only differences being that you'd connected it to the single Usb C port on the RC 2 and that there is no acknowledgement by the controller that it is connected. You can continue to record audio to your screen recordings and videos just fine.
    - I seem to have forgotten to mention a few things. You can check them out in Part 2:
    ua-cam.com/video/6WRC0MhVs60/v-deo.html
    - The new synthesized voice prompts are available on the RC via update. The new voices prompts sound less robotic, as mentioned

    I have the Mini 4 pro with the RC2, and since this video they have indeed added more compatibility. For example, I can plug in a 2TB SSD into the USB C port, I can plug in an External Monitor to the USB C port, I can even plug in my Quest 2 headset and output the video to it via HDMI Over USB C from the RC2. It seems to have "Host" built in, or acts more like a thunderbolt port now. Great Video!

      @WIHRC  Рік тому

      Much appreciated. Definitely not unlucky at all the RC Pro seems to be built on the same exact platform or with similar specifications to the RC. As a matter of fact the RC is more of an offshoot of the pro, so I'd say that they can make it compatible also. You just wouldn't get the same range due to it not having O4. At some point, when I can find an RC Pro for a good price I might make another video but nonetheless if they make the RC compatible they'll make the RC Pro compatible for sure.

    Thanks for the excellent comparison. The offline maps feature on RC2 (and I believe on RC and RC-Pro) apparently limits you to downloading map files sizes of 3MB which in my area amounts about a ~3mi X ~2mi map area (aka TINY area). And this means to get map coverage for a reasonable size area (which IMO is 25miles) you'd have select, download and re-name MANY map snippets in order to get this level of map coverage. And that makes the offline maps basically useless as far as I'm concerned.
    I called DJI support and asked them what was behind this limitation and support claimed it was an Android limitation...not their limitation, hmmmm???? .....which as far as I can tell from my research is complete BS because AFAIK the limitation of file transfer under FAT32 in Android is 4GB (not 3MB).
    Are you aware of any workaround to the 3MB map files size? Are you aware of any Android limitations that might limit the file transfer size to only 3MB or DJI just BS'ing us?

    • @WIHRC
      @WIHRC  11 місяців тому

      I saw this and wanted to wait until I had an answer. From what I can see, it's a bit of both DJI and the forced limitation of the version of Android they're using. I tried saving some maps on the RC2 (just got it again with the MIni 4 Pro), and the biggest portion I could save was up to 4.1mb.
      I also tried doing this on my phone, and though the amount of data I was able to save was a bit higher, I could still only save a portion of a map and not something like a whole state. The limitation seems to be more on the Google side of things. I haven't tried to save any maps on my phone in a long time, but I'm using Android 13, which is the second to the latest update.
      It all comes down to what seems like Google not updating the ability to save maps beyond a small area.
      Hope this helps

    • @jetmartin9501
      @jetmartin9501 11 місяців тому

      @@WIHRC Thanks for the follow up. BTW, on Android 10 I was able to successfully download a Google offline map that was 190MB. Which was quite a large area (Entire San Diego Metro area). So given that is this really an Android limitation or a DJI limitation. Based on my testing it seems to be a DJI limitation.
      The other thing I've noticed is that when I save a map snippet of a specific area and then open saved snippet it's point to a different map snippet then what I asked it to save. Have you see that problem. Also if you zoom in and out on the map occasion the map area will become so small that you can barely see it on the map at all. It seems to be a very buggy application IMHO.

    • @WIHRC
      @WIHRC  11 місяців тому +1

      No problem. After reading your latest comment, I'm starting to see where this could be more of a DJI limitation. It's seems like they might have limited this feature due to storage limitations on something like the RC. My guess would be that the quality and allowed save size of these maps might be tied to all 3 of DJI's controllers being limited to 1920 X 1080 displays. I wonder if the difference when doing this on an Android device like a Pixel or Samsung is the fact that the maps save based on the resolution, or maybe it could be dependent on the area and the amount of data needed to save that area with all of its details (thinking of how your map of San Diego came out to 190mb).
      Also I haven't had the issue of my RC showing me a different portion other than what I had saved, but I did have an issue when doing a waypoint mission where the mission parameters I set with the C1 button were almost completely ignored. Wonder if that might be connected somehow to the portion of the map I saved.
      .......yeah this is definitely starting to seem more and more like a DJI issue or rather a poor implementation on their part.

    What is also dramatic is the non-compatibility with goggles 2/Integra (O3), RC Pro, air unit,... . I own nearly all latest DJI products (Mini 3 Pro, Mavic 3 Cine, Avata, FPV, and even an Inspire 1 and a Mavic 3T). If not retrocompatibility from O4 to O3 protocol, forget me DJI to buy your latest products. No need of Air 3 and no need for new release of Mini 4 Pro coming in few months. Quite simple.

      @WIHRC  Рік тому

      Believe me I hear you. From what I've seen they've been pretty responsive to user feedback and on top of that even though they pretty much have a monopoly on the Drone Market they wouldn't want to lose that so all we can do is keep our eyes open and our ears open even wider.
      I get exactly where you're coming from since you own so many of their products. I don't know anything for sure but something just tells me that they wouldn't just alienate all of their fan base especially with the fact that drones like the mavic 3 and Mini 3 Pro are so new in a sense, but again we'll have to wait.
      It did take the RC a while to be compatible with other drones like the mavic 3, air2s, Etc.

    • @SamcroHD
      @SamcroHD Рік тому

      @@WIHRC Perhaps, but another example is also bad: DJI Mini 3 (not the pro) is O2, and can be used with RC-N1, RC... but not with RC Pro. This is inconsistant. DJI had plenty of time to make something for Mini 3 to work with RC Pro, but nothing up to now. But you can pilot Mni 3 Pro, Air 2S and of course Mavic 3 with RC Pro.

    • @WIHRC
      @WIHRC  Рік тому +1

      @SamcroHD fair enough. I honestly think the Mini 3 is more of a re-skinned mini 2 with some added features, and this is what I said in my review of the mini 3 and I believe I also stated the same in my comparison of the Mini 2 and Mini 3. It's not a bad drone, but if you stay on the surface and just look at the outside of it, then you miss what's going on on the inside. I appreciate you letting me know about the compatibility difference between the Mini 3 and RC Pro. I plan to buy an RC Pro when I can find one for a good price, and this will be something that I definitely mentioned whenever I do get one.
      It'll be interesting to see what happens with the RC2 months from now, but I can understand if you're not holding your breath with it. I just hope that it does become compatible so that your money isn't wasted on the drones you have.

    Do you think the RC 2 would significantly increase the range and signal strength of the Mini 3 Pro? My Mini 3 Pro + RC has pretty terrible signal strength, much worse than my older Mavic 2 Pro with its original controller.

    • @WIHRC
      @WIHRC  Рік тому +3

      If I had to speculate, I'd say that it wouldn't increase the range per say but it would stabilize the signal in areas that would have a lot of interference.
      If you're losing signal bars regularly, then the RC 2 (if and when compatible) would make it so you don't lose that signal as easily.

  • @MaineMan086

    I have really enjoyed and learned from your videos. Thanks very much! I have a Mavic 3 Classic and am considering getting an Air 3. I have seen a couple of UA-cam videos of range tests between these two aircraft, but they were done in an urban environment, so you really didn't have a conclusive case that the operating range was better with OS4 versus earlier versions. Since you are in an area with great visibility and open space, it would be great if you could do a range test and compare when you begin to lose bars with OS4 and OS3/3+ when you have time. Here in Maine, we have a lot of foliage, and from what little I have seen, OS4 in the Air 3 does a much better job of penetrating foliage, which would be a major reason for me to upgrade. Your recent video of active track on the Air 3 prepared me to be very cautious in wooded settings -- thanks for that too! Having had a couple of crashes due to hitting tiny bare twigs the aircraft did not detect, I am sensitive to this problem! It is great to see the part of the country you live in. When I was a little kid we lived in the Broadmoor section of Colorado Springs, and it remains as beautiful as ever! Keep up the great work!

    • @WIHRC
      @WIHRC  Рік тому +1

      Glad you enjoyed the video. If I'm being completely honest, I am not necessarily into range test as much but I'd be willing to do one given the right situation. The Broadmoor area is definitely great area to view and escape to, I agree. I do most of my test at an area near the Bear Creek dog park and considered doing a range test there however there is a restricted or rather constrained area around there that I'm quite cautious of. I know that O4 would definitely go much farther for sure but I don't want to fly over any neighborhoods so this is a test I would most likely do in the future maybe somewhere like Guanella pass since there is literally no one at the summit most of the time. If you haven’t already purchased an Air 3 by then I hope you'll look out for that test. Ill let you know if and when this test will be possible.

    Sir you are the God of reviews. Hi I am just about to buy an Air 3 as I crashed my Air 2S. If you had to do it again would you buy the Air 3 ? Also do the RC 2 and the RC N2 fly equally as good as each other. Is it possible that the RC 2 allows you to fly more smoothly etc because it is a higher quality piece of machinery? I ask this because I am trying to do manually many of the orbit moves etc that I have relied on the automation ie active track to do, and I find the RC N2 a bit cheap and clunky. Finally where did you find the RC 2 for $168? Thanks you are awesome.

    • @WIHRC
      @WIHRC  3 місяці тому

      Lol, I wouldn't say god, but I'm glad you enjoyed it. I would definitely get the AIR 3 only because of the increased dynamic range you'll get from it. However, I've never tried the Air 2S either, so I can't really compare both . Having the extra 3x camera definitely makes the Air 3 more versitile also.
      I don't think the rc2 would allow you to fly smoother in any way. That's going to be more based on your settings and calibration of the joysticks and the drones flight. From my experience, doing those moves manually is just more about getting into the repetitive motion of how to do them. Muscle memory will take over from there. The RCN2 is still good to have around, especially if you wanted to connect it to a bigger screen.
      The $168 price was for the original RC. That prices something I was able to find on eBay.

    • @WIHRC
      @WIHRC  11 місяців тому

      Glad that the information in the video was helpful. That does honestly seem underwhelming. Realistically when I'm using the RC to the battery tends to drop about one to two notches but then again this could also have something to do with the temperature surrounding the controller. Either way I would definitely look into seeing if you can get a replacement if you're still within the return policy. It might be annoying to set everything up again but it's better to know that you have things working the way that they are supposed to.

      I'm working on making this video pretty soon. I just have a lot of other videos to work on. I haven't seen any significant difference with putting the phone on airplane mode and keeping Bluetooth on, but that's definitely something that's possible. Also, Bluetooth transfer is something that may only work from the RC to an Android phone, being that apple ( to my knowledge) still doesn't allow direct Bluetooth transfers, especially from other operating systems.
      Stay tuned to the channel for that transfer video.

You'll also be getting two cameras and better battery life with the Air 3. Of course, the big advantage of the Mavic 3 Classic is that 4/3 sensor, which will give you the utmost detail in every situation, but that just means you'll have to do more work to get that detail out of the Air 3.
