Air 2s still the best for me

Glad they fixed the fogging issue of the lens early on, otherwise that would have been a very easy deal breaker.
While I prefer using the Air 2S (more responsive, a little more power), some of the thoughts:
1) Smaller/Weight : This is probably one of the biggest reasons to get the Mini 3 Pro, especially outside of the US where being under 249g really matters. (in the US the only thing you're really saving is not needing to register, so $5).
2) While having the larger battery is nice, it eliminates the benefit of #1. Once you add on enough stuff to increase the take-off weight, you're then required to register the drone. And 34 minutes of real world flight time is indeed greater than the approximately 25-27ish on the Air 2S ( they rate for 31, but as you know real world tests vary on wind.). But I still like being able to see the battery charge right on top of the battery without putting it into the drone. It's also easier to weather-proof the drone on the Air 2S than it is on the Mini 3 (which also requires getting the ports covered).
3) Onboard charging was not something I really bothered with even with my Mini and Mini 2 which could do it. Since I was usually charging the batteries separately while putting a fresh battery into the drone itself anyways. However what is nice with the mini series is that you only need an 18W USB-C car charger to charge the batteries, with the Air 2S you're going to need an AC power inverter.
4 & 5) Definitely more offerings especially to new flier who don't already have a beefed up phone to use with their drone, but it's also cheaper if you choose to get the RC-N1 instead. Also very recently the Air 2S has been made compatible with the RC controller that comes with the Mini 3.
6) Course this only applies as long as you don't throw any add-ons or that larger battery onto it (and in the US you still need to take at least the TRUST test).
7) Meh :D
8) The Mini 3 Pro isn't actually that much quieter than the Air 2S, mainly the difference is a lower pitch which doesn't sound like a bag of angry hornets. You can however get a set of Master Air Screw props for the Air 2S and achieve about the same pitch which feels a lot quieter even if the decibel level isn't really any lower.
9) Not really that different in terms of tight spaces. It may seem smaller, but realistically you run the same risk of collision with either drones especially with the obstacle avoidance not having as many points to watch as the Air 2S (though it does a good job). So it's mostly a placebo effect that you gain from that 2 inch reduction.
10) Yes the automatic modes do seem to be much more improved on the Mini 3 Pro which is a great thing for beginners. The Air 2S especially on video has much more latitude for editing in either 10-bit dlog or hlg, but the automatic straight out of the drone quality in normal mode isn't as pleasing to the consumer eye as it is from the Mini 3.
11) Mini 3 doesn't crop because the sensor is already set for 4K, Air 2S the full sensor space is meant for 5.4K, it does a 1:1 crop going to 4K, you could super-sample down from 5.4k though. The full sensor on the Mini 3 is still smaller than the crop view on the Air 2S.
12) May have to double check, but you'll only get 10-bit color in H265+D-Cinelike, which is a significant increase in data for post processing. And while it's nice they did allow 10-bit recording in D-Cinelike it's not the same as Dlog or HLG. Also have to take into account, 150Mbps H264 has less visual quality than 120Mbps H265, it's a very efficient codec compared to the older H264. (H264 is easier to edit on the computer though not requiring as much processing power to edit directly from it).
13) If you're sticking with H264 you may be losing the 10-bit color.
14) There's no doubt that adds the extra cool factor, especially when recording videos with a sense of monumentality looking up higher. Especially since the drone can already rotate as needed for every other view.
The fan, my Mavic 2 Zoom died from overheating 200 feet up.

Bro, I love your videos and Ive been a sub for a while now. This is not a hate review, just my opinion. You make some very valid points about the Mini 3. Countless people swear by it. DJI really outdid theirselves in some respects witn the Mini3. I come from the Phantom days, then the Tello (for indoors) and the Mini (original). All are fantastic in their own spaces. Now, having laid that out, in my opinion, comparing the Mini3 and the Air 2S is not a valid comparrison. It is like comparing an apple to a pineapple. Again, both are great but they are not 100% interchangable. If you compare a VW to a Cadillac on fuel economy the VW would win every time. WOuld I drive one?? No..
I see the Mini3 as a fantastic consumer quad. The Air 2S is more of a Prosumer quad with a number of great advantages for people how dont want to drop the $3K - $5K on a Mavic 3. I love the Air 2S' added weight and the way it can handle the wind. I love the added ruggedness (Like the aluminum gimbal and not the plastic gimbal on the Mini3). The AIr 2S has more beef and while that does reduce the flight time, it is still more than enough to get about any great shot or video. I love all my quads for different uses and different conditions. I just think it is not a valid comparrison when all is said and done. Loved the video and love watching your channel. I think it's a valid comparison since the price is almost the same. In my country air 2s is only 60€ more expensive and so I don't know which one to buy

It’s 100% a valid comparison because people are shopping for drones and can either get a mini 3 pro or an Air 2S for a comparable price with similar features.
I’m literally in the process of trying to figure out which one I’m going to buy as I type this .
On one hand, I like the compact size and stealthy nature of the mini 3 pro considering it’s less noisy at lower altitudes.
However, I like that the Air 2s handles wind better and has a better camera.
But then the mini 3pro has better battery life including the optional extended range batteries.
So the question becomes do I want stealthy, long range and good overall functionality drone with somewhat limited flight capabilities in windy environments?
Or do I want a faster and more stable drone with a better camera, less flight time and is much noisier when flying?
I still can’t decide.
I'm one of the lucky, I have the Mini 2, the Air 2S and the Mini 3 Pro. The 3 Pro is becoming the choice for me.
The Mini 2 was my 1st drone. It is still a good little drone. I do feel bad, I don't use my Mini 2 much at all, over my Avata and Air 2s and soon Mini 3 Pro. I had to take it flying a week ago because I felt I was ignoring it too much. Fun little drone for what it is.

However at 9:25 you mention that H.264 (AVC) gives higher quality than H.265 (HEVC), but that is not the case - they both give the same quality. Don't let the smaller file size from HEVC fool you into thinking that there is more compression going on and thus more loss of information. The reason you get a smaller file size with HEVC is because it processes videos with an entirely different type of processing unit that is more efficient.
Yep! People get confuse about codecs all the time and miss information makes things even worse. Like I said on my comments, always use H265 when you can. Better codec and smaller video size at around same quality or even better. I program codecs and I find the data of H265 much better and easy to handle when I create high-end interactive video walls. Another fact is that you are ready for the present and future with the flexibility to up-convert or film in higher resolution like 8k, 12k and higher for video walls.

I prefer the Air 2s, I have the original mini and I do like portability. DJI need to get away from screw on props. All their drones should be twist on props. Just my opinion.
Even the brand new Avata drone has screw on props.

I prefer the air 2s as well because I already have it, not going to expend money in drones. I am not making money with it or using professionally. Also he forgot to add that the Air 2s is more stronger to resist heavy wind that the mini 3.

At least on the Avata you only have to deal with 1 screw per corner. and the flight characteristics are far superior then those junky 1 screw per blade the Mini 1 to Mini 3 Pro have and sadly the future Mini 4 Pro down the road.

I just filmed a few videos in Honolulu,HI with the Air2s. I had no problem with the 4k 60 crop.. I simply filmed my targets from a little further back..😎
Just subscribed to your channel and glad I did. As I'm retired i've been looking at getting a drone, preferably one with omnidirectional sensors so I wont crash and that narrows it down to only the Mavic 3 which is soooo expensive, but which one would you recommend for a beginner like me? 😊

It's easy to make a strong argument for either drone being better than the other one. There both really good drones, and being under 250 grams is really what makes the Mini 3 special, especially for people who don't want to register their drones. And for people who live places where these drones are less restricted. Great video, and thanks for sharing.
I don't know why so many people get hung up on drone registration anyways? It is only $5 bucks for 3 years and recreational wise you can fly a drone under 55 pounds. It is so silly to take the chance of getting the bigger battery or something that makes the drone weight over .249 grams and be worried the cops are going to mess with you for your drone being over. Why worry about it, just pay the $5 bucks!

You know if I didn’t already have the mini 2 and the Air2s then the new mini 3 pro would be a great new addition or beginner drone..I see where the technology is going with DJI and I’m very excited to see what coming down the tube in the next 3 years …so if you just getting into drones or upgrading from like the mini 1 or air 2 or maybe a different brand jump on the mini 3 pro it will probably be the best option for you, the future of photography is drones there so easy to use now compared to like 3 years ago and the quality and ease of use has improved tremendously,I personally get some breathtaking pictures Worth so much to me …the only reason now to buy the Air2s is wind resistant the technology with the mini 3 is incredible the upcoming air3 what ever will probably blow the mavic 3 out of the water…just go’s on and on ….. great video I always enjoy your content and value your opinion concerning the drone hobby..thanks
you got it, and i have em both 😅 one more advantage for me is, the angle upwards of 60° on the Mini 3 vs the 24° on the Air2S, wich gives me some real great looking footage on filming or taking pictures of castle ruins, over water under bridges fly through, or flying in mountain area as well

I got both. I jumped on board when DJI put the air 2s fly more combo with the smart controller on sale for $1,500. Haven't had a problem with it but I bought the standard n1 controller also just in case. Hell of a deal

Depends on your purpose. If you're doing real estate and doing a lot of filming inside the mini 3 Pro might be a good choice. You can do it with the Air 2s just great, but if you're worried about Karen's the Mini 3 Pro might be better. Maybe wait for the Air 3s because that is around the corner. Mini 3 just has the newer updated designs is all over the Air 2s. It is a great drone and much more maneuverable over the Mini drones. Watching my Mini 2 come straight down from 200 plus feet can take a couple minutes., The Air 2s is so much faster! Just limitation of the blade design. Hope DJI makes the Mini 4 a duel prop push in. Much more stable and would make it more maneuverable.

Yes yes and yes I have been following your lead for a couple of years and i am glad i didn't have to choose between these 2 beauties. The Mini 3 Pro with the RC screen feature rich small size is the grab and go Queen in the air. I did get the A2S combo with the RC Pro when it was on that great SALE you spotted for us and it is still Sky King 🤴
i benn thinking of the mini 3 but i have the mini 2....so do i upgrade or just get the air2s i get best of both worlds but fly in high winds with out worries
Yeah, you've made a few great points, but I still prefer the A2S. It's the only drone that's compatible with another that I know of.

The Mini is a beast, but the sensor size is just a win for me and the Air2S. I hate when people compare old drones and compare the good updated tech but always use the old price. The Air 2s fly more is about $900 on resale with more like 3-4 batteries. but an older smart controller it is about the same price as the Fly more Mini 3

I don't own the Mini 3 Pro yet, but soon I think it does from what I have seen much better because it isn't a junky plastic like the Mini 2 and Mini 1 and is metal so it won't get pushed down like the Mini 2 which frustrates the hell out of me! I love my mini 2, but what the flip DJI?
It is all well and good, but I live in an area where we put windmills. Yup windmills, so anything I fly needs to be rock steady in 30 mph winds or I am toast.
I love how they are very responsive with the consumers as far as listening @DJI

I have a unrelated question, you had a yt vid a few months ago and you were flying the MA2. You also had a external monitor that you said you use for client jobs. How would I connect a monitor to my MA2 while still flying and controlling the drone from my phone. Basically I want to mirror what's on my phone to another screen. Can you help with that?

The Air2s can fly in winds the Mini3 can’t. But can see how the Mini 3 is a super little UAV, and such an upgrade to the 2. Good work Xavier.
I have the Air 2s and soon I guess I am going to get the Mini 3 Pro to avoid Karens, but soon the upgraded and new DJI Air 3s will be out with a much better duel camera and many of us including me is going to want one! I don't know about the Mini 4 Pro? The new design seems cool, but leaves the props more in the dirt and hitting small rocks when landing. As much as I love my Air 2s, I can't help it to know I am probably going to buy the upgraded version in the future for sure!

I was under the impression the Mini 3 pro was dual native iso at 100 and 1600? Is that not correct?
I know there is a professional photographer that really explains how the camera sort of cheats in the video quality vs the Air 2s and other cameras and in many cases how extreme high resolution for many doesn't really matter because they cannot tell the difference. Most cannot tell the difference from 4k to 8k video because they just don't have the 8k TV that is big enough to matter.
@@BlueDroneBlues I’m not talking about resolution; I’m talking about the iso level. (Thought it has nothing to do with what I said) id still argue sure most can’t tell the difference between 4K and 8k and most don’t have 8k anything. But the point of higher resolution for non professionals is that it allows them to both zoom in, in post production. As well as stabilize their video by cropping in from the higher resolution down to something smaller making the video nice and smooth. Again that wasn’t what my comment is about though.

With 3 plus batteries/1 standard, this has been the perfect follow on drone to replace my Air 2 (not S) - bigger sensor, smaller everything else. Brilliant. A tiny bit less wind handling, that's it. If they had paired Air 2 with RC Pro, added Mastershots, maybe it would soldier on, but nope. Time to part ways, sniff... sob 😭 )

If the mini pro 3 did waypoints outside time lapse mode I'd buy it :(. I like the idea of flying in the day and going back when it's dark and load the way points.

Wait, in one video you said air 2s kills mini pro 3. Very contradicting. Your two videos got me not knowing which to get because I can’t tell which side of fence you are on.
It is amazing how people get video technical information wrong. ALWAYS film in H265 if the device supports, ALWAYS because 265 offers from 25% to 50% better data compression at the same level of video quality of 264. Meaning that you can increase the quality of the video and resolution. Basically h265 delivers high-quality videos at the same bitrate. Simple as that. Also, you are filming for the present and future. How that is possible? H.264 breaks an image down into squares of pixels known as macroblocks and 265 uses tree units (CTUs) with block structures up to 64×64 pixels that increases the coding efficiency. Stop using 264. Use proxy files when editing (Never edit on the native resolution, always use a proxy file that your computer can handle so your edits are in real time. Another HUGE benefit of using H265 is the capabilities to encode 8k and up resolutions when 264 you can not. The H.265 codec is one of the best codecs in the industry.
264 Pro: Most devices/computers will play depending on the codec. More containers than H265 (MP4, MOV, F4V, 3GP, and TS) Easy to work with depending on the project.
264 Cons: Old format with limited compression and resolution. And not fixable for high end video technology.
265 Pro: Best compression and video quality because of the High-Efficiency data. Variable higher resolutions at higher quality. Small file size with higher video quality.
265 Cons: Less containers that you can embed the data (TS,MP4,3GP,MKV and others coming).
Now, people gets confuse a lot about codecs and they think that 265 did not make any difference on the video quality, but it does with the data that you can not see until you need it. Also, the video quality will depend on the delivering device or recoding camera. You can only see the difference in quality if the camera/recording device capture data that a 264 can not deliver. You need to find out what it is the breaking point of losing quality on the camera in Mbps before you know what to use, even if the device says it can record 100Mps it does not mean the data is good or captured at the level. It just means that the codec can be compress at the level to the giving data. So, filming at a maximum quality of the device can record means nothing if the delivery is less than that. So, you need to find out what is the breaking point of the camera/rec so you don't waist drive space in a higher data rate that you never needed.
Is the Mini3 compatible with Drone Deploy or similar mapping apps?
Nope!
Not until at least one year later from release date then DJI will release the SDK!

So mini 3 according to this video is now compatible with SC Pro. Yes now it's worth buying with a set of extra batteries.
I have the mini 3, Air 2S and Mavic 3, I purchased the mini 3 to see if I could make enough money from it doing actual work, well let’s just say because I am able to fly next to airports being licensed and sub 250g I was able to pay off the drone inside 2 weeks of work. The air 2S took ages, and let’s not even go down the path of the Mavic 3 as I haven’t had it long. Are there differences between them all “hell yeah” are the insurance companies real estate agents and the online brokers etc worried about those differences, not even in the slightest. Every one of those drones is at minimum double then way more capable than the legal requirements for insurance images. The only time the Mavic outshines the rest is taking video with the sunset coming into view and out of view while you are taking video of a large property and farmland that is the only time you need 5k HLG and 265 and MOV to have the range and data and adjustable aperture so the Mavic wind in that type of scenario only and guess how many of those jobs I done? (1) lol, so yeah I would have been fine to stay with the ultimate duo of Air 2S and Mini 3 Pro as the Air 2S allows me to map using Dronelink which is super important, but I assume that should change very soon for the Mavic 3
Sorry but I'm not sorry : I'm currently in Lombok, shooting 360 Pano in strong winds far away from shore. The air2S is a beast and come back anytime.
It's incredibly stable and the Pano are almost perfect (I don't want to spend time on a lap top to create the "perfect" one. I'm happy with the DJI stitching).
I'll get soon the insta360 sphere, and only the air2S can lift that boy.
Keep your mini3 and blablabla, it's a drone for weekenders, not for travelers.

How is that possible? The drone is on sale without the fly more combo, you have to charge the battery to be able to fly it.
It comes with a charging brick to charge the one battery 🔋
When you want to charge more than one battery, you add the multi adapter to the charging brick 💪

The camera in the MINI 3 PRO is a Hasselblad that is what makes the difference.

Air 2S is a hard sell for me over the Mini 3 Pro now as I use the vertical camera so much as I did on the OG Mavic Pro.
My Mavic Pro has vertical mode. I never use vertical mode

@@xavier_arthur no. The only social media I use is Facebook and UA-cam. Another reason I don’t try to enter giveaways. They usually include other social platforms to win. I just got back from a long trip to the Philippines and I never once needed any vertical extras. Plus with the Air 2S as my go to drone out of all my drones I have the master shots and special shots including spherical. I travel a lot and never have a thought in my head about wanting vertical.
@@xavier_arthur I have my small UA-cam channel but not really trying to do anything except have a place to keep my videos for when I want to watch them. Haven’t thought about producing videos to gain subscribers.

I bought the AIR 2S Fly More Combo, with a RC Controller last month. Since they made the 2S, compatible with the RC controller. I decided to buy the Mini 3 Pro also, without a controller, since I already have the RC, but the DJI store, had Refurbished Mini 3 Pro, with RC Controller, for only $729 shipped, that was only $49 more than I was going to pay for the Mini 3 Pro without a controller. So I ordered the refurbished unit, it shipped yesterday. I can't wait. I bought a refurbished Mini 2 and AIR 2, both Fly More Combos, a year and half ago, & you couldn't tell the difference, between new and Refurbished. I sold them a few months ago to upgrade to the AIR 2s & Mini 3 Pro.

The Air drone line belongs to a higher category than the minis, both in previous versions and in the current one. The mini 3 is much better than the mini 2, but despite being close to the Air 2S it is still inferior. The camera sensor is still smaller, and its 48 megapixels do not exceed the 20 megapixels of the Air 2S because only if the camera sensor of the mini 3 shoots at 12 megapixels does its pixels reach the size of 2.4 microns, when in the Air 2S its 20 megapixels are real 2.4micros logical pixels. That's why the images of the Air 2S are clearer than those of the mini 3. And in terms of construction, the Mini 3 is the weakest and most fragile drone of all the previous minis, it looks like an eggshell because it is so fragile, if hitting and falling will shatter it almost doesn't even look like a DJi product it's so weak. The Air 2S is much tougher, stronger, stronger and faster... it's more machine.

Mini 3 doesn't seem weaker than previous minis at all, Mini 1 you could bend the legs with almost no effort.

What is fragile and weak about the mini 3 compared to its predecessors is the construction of the equipment, the resistance and the quality of the material used. It's not just users who have shown this, but especially technicians who do maintenance on drones, they are all unanimous on this. I don't like mini drones, so after I had the Spark Drone, I only had Air line drones and today I have an Air 2S, but if I had a mini drone, for sure I would have an Autel Evo Nano, which kept the same quality as the premium brand drones and the camera quality is superior to that of the mini 3, there are many videos of users who have both drones showing this.
@@neoleandro2650 Any drone under 250g is not going to be made of premium materials, and I've seen reviews of the Nano plus where they mention the cheap feeling design as well. But with Autel it extends to the controller as well.
@@SideshowBob44 It is exactly as I said before, comparing the mini 3 with the previous minis models, the fragility is clear, it is weaker, this is a fact affirmed by many and many users and most importantly, this is confirmed by all technicians of drone maintenance that I know of. About the Evo Nano is the same thing, this statement about it is said by maintenance technicians, who had both drones open and there really is no comparison about it between them that's a fact! There's nothing to discuss about the RC, the Mini 3's RC is by far much better than the Nano's, but when it comes to the construction of the aircraft, the fact is, the mini 3 is left behind... Autel robotics is the only manufacturer that managed to put a cooler in a mini drone keeping its weight below 250g and that is also a fact.
