    Great video well done 😊 it’s great to see the HSTs running but part of me feels really sad to see them idling along at 5 or 10mph it doesn’t feel right somehow having grown up with HSTs I love them. Seeing them at Newcastle, York or Kings Cross with full rakes of coach’s and remembering the Valenta scream which as a kid blew me away, they were absolute beasts pulling away at full power. It’s just sad seeing them like this, but it’s a million times better than the alternative so I applaud the team keeping these legends alive.

      i wish i got to see more of them being in the north west i only really saw them when i took a trip to york and holidays in devon watching them pass dawlish on the coast in the original virgin livery or great western, atleast quite a few of them will be preserved and am sure as heritage railways grow maybe they can be put through there pacers more

      @@northwesttrainsmodels I'd be very sad if someone put their HST through a Pacer, they maybe be the uncomfortable ugly duckling of the railway world, but they saved many branchlines from being closed, (sadly not the ones that were already gone by then though)

    I think the CVR is a good railway. I know its not miles and miles etc but every railway is different. Plus it can run an HST set and coaches on a line anyway. Has lots of signals and has a local rural feel. Id love to come one day ❤

    I visited on Easter Monday and,even though I live close by, I haven’t been here for a long time. I was pleasantly surprised not only by having hst’s running but by the many other attractions here. There is a miniature railway and playroom etc for the children and also a good model railway. They had a steam engine running too and you can ride up and down all day if you want to. Reasonably priced to get in as well. Good luck to the CVR!

    Awesome, I did wonder why they had them sat around it just seemed like they were getting in the way but im glad they're operational and being put to good use. They seem slightly out of place being on a small, twee heritage line i think they would look even better on a more mainline type of heritage railway but still good overall. Would love to see them in the inter City 125 livery to bring back the nostalgia for many people though. It would certainly be a sight.

    Really enjoyable production and well put together, Australia has the "XPT" which is our version of the HST and they are going to be replaced next year by new trains built in Spain by CAF after 40 years of service. I hope they preserve a set like you people have done with the HST. The engine sounds the same as the XPT so i presume the HST is powered by a Paxman Valenta diesel? Good luck with the HST!

    A great video Ollie. A nice look at what else happens, other than the scrubbing, carpentry and scrubbing off or down of rust and paint that goes with the day-to-day running of a heritage railway. Thanks to all the folks working on the railway, Ollie and Joshua, and especially those who also gave their time for an interview too. It's certainly nice to see so many HSTs and a Class 91 DVT there(?) at the Colne Valley Railway, for sure. Some good points on the future there: I dare say some sort of Derv will be available in the future but it's not looking good for coal. I know certain Politicians are very against coal burning for very much longer. Some TOC's including Network Rail have Class 43 sets running at the moment still, so having younger folks gain the knowledge to keep them running, such as the Midland Pullman, Valeta or MTU's, will be a qualification on their entry into the Mainline TOC's Train Care Centres and TMDs, or other engineering vocations. Thanks for taking the time to put a very slick video together Ollie. Nice one, sir. Cheers!

    While I have an affectionate soft spot for Mr. HST, he doesn't belong on a preserved railway. Those HSTs have got to go on to the main line, they are designed to travel at 125mph. They're too heavy to work on the Colne Valley Railway, so let's hope they can be taken on to the main line network where they truly belong. Plus, their old liveries of Intercity Swallow and BR Blue & Grey should be brought back. Steam engines and DMUs are for branch line use, plus shunters of course. Mr. HST must go away on to the main line, and stay there forever more. It's better that way, believe me.

    • @modelrailwayCORP
      @modelrailwayCORP 2 роки тому +6

      What a load of tosh!
      Was a black 5 designed for 25mph? Nope!
      Was a 101 designed for 25mph? Nope!
      Was a 8F designed for 25mph? Nope!
      Was a Class 37 designed for 25mph? Nope!
      Yet all survive on preserved lines
      The HST, as much as I agree that they should be on the mainline doing what it does best, deserves to be preserved, they changed the face of a failing BR in the 1970/80s and rejuvenated faith in the rail system. They're not too heavy to work on the Colne Valley as they wouldn't be there if that were true. Repainting of locos costs potentially thousands so why change their liveries when they're all ready in good nick with their Ex-EMR, Ex-FGW and Ex-LNER liveries. These HSTs have bought in the numbers for the Colne Valley, their HST launch day was a huge success, so why try and say they don't belong there and instead of over analysing things, enjoy the video, enjoy the HST and be shush.

    • @MattyP62618
      @MattyP62618 2 роки тому +4

      Yes, let's keep HST's on the network for forever & ignore their lack of modern safety features & performance compared to modern traction. Keeping 40+ year old traction going when there's better alternatives doesn't make any sense!

    • @kellyashfordtrains2642
      @kellyashfordtrains2642 2 роки тому

      @@modelrailwayCORP HSTs do indeed attract the customers, I agree. They do it better on the main line. HSTs are main line trains and that's their true preserved home. On a preserved railway, the 8F and Black 5 go at 25mph. On the main line, a Black 5 is allowed to travel at something like 60mph. It's made me unhappy that the original BR Blue & Grey livery of the HST has gone. I like that livery, it's far better than the other liveries in my book. Trust me, the Colne Valley Railway ought to send the HSTs back on to the main line. The main line is where the HSTs truly belong.

    I don't think they look right going at 10 to 15 mph, I remember them thundering past along the Midland Mainline, 4 trains a hour, 2 each way.
    I know it's better then the alternative, but I think they should of at least kept a few as a 10 car cross country sets painted with the Union Jack on the side of the trains, the class 43s are a UK icon. 👍
